"But really, the only fool I see here is you. Why don't your surrender now and we'll give you a quick death," Florence adds, giving Eshen an unnerving stare before falling back a bit.

Eshen casts a spell upon herself, and her smooth skin erupts in the very pustules she shed a moment ago, but this time they are magical in nature instead of illusory. Florence's Round 2
"Watch out for the grabby tentacles - you'll have to hack your way free if she puts you in her cage," Florence calls out in warning as she takes a step back from the devil that's now up in her grill. Looking up, she focuses her attention on the devil and attempts inflict it with arcane retribution...
Retribution (Su) - A witch can place a retribution hex on a creature within 60 feet, causing terrible wounds to open across the target's flesh whenever it deals damage to another creature in melee. Immediately after the hexed creature deals damage in melee, it takes half that damage (round down). This damage bypasses any resistances, immunities, or damage reduction the creature possesses. This effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to the witch's Intelligence modifier. A Will save negates this effect.

Stelle (per chat) gives everyone a free move action so they can get into position and holds her attack. Zilchus lands a mighty critical, though he misses with his second attack (even with Flo’s evil eye). Kosei, squeaking past her SR, dispels a pair fo spells, negating her last rounds actions, and another… Nidhi previously bestowed good hope and now follows it with a little tune for the battle. Florence attempts retribution, but the devil resists it.
(Remember, you each have a free move action prior to my movement, which may allow AoO’s and enables Nidhi to take a free shot. Singing is a move, then a free move from Stelle leaves a standard action left over which you can use to shoot.)
Eshen, frustrated at how things aren’t going her way, flies further into the air (20’ up into the haze, providing partial concealment - 20% miss chance) (movement may provoke as above but it won’t change her action). She then casts black tentacles (link) beneath her…
Grapple: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (4) + 19 = 23 vs CMD for Stelle, Anubis, Zilchus, Kosei, and Florence - Nidhi is spared for now.
If you are grappled, take Grapple damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 and are held fast. CMD to break the grapple is 29 (CMB Grapple or Escape Artist)
She's even more frustrated with her spells weak performance, as the limp tentacles scarcely grasp at the party.

Florence's Round 3
Though gripped tightly by the tentacles Florence doesn't worry about trying to fight her way out of them; she's familiar enough with this one to know that breaking free of her own accord is pretty unlikely. Instead, she scowls up at the devil before granting Zilchus - since he's already up in the air - a little extra bit of good fortune and then laughs.
"You're only prolonging the inevitable, you know that right?"

Stelle moves to the giant lion looking for aerial assistance. Zilchus scores another critical, thanks in part to Eshen being easier to hit. Kosei tries but fails to dispel the magical tentacles. Nidhi launches a volley into the devil, hitting thrice! Clearly Kosei’s earlier dispel effected her armor as well. Florence, cackling, improves Zilchus’ attacks for next and possibly future rounds, even as she’s grappled by the black appendages.
Eshen’s black tentacles continue their writhing, reaching out again for Florence.

"Oh great...she used Greater Teleport," Florence groans as the devil vanishes. "There's no telling where she's gone or if she'll be back with reinforcements or not!"
She wriggles futilely at the tentacles as they continue to squeeze.
"Um, little help here? I don't think I'll be able to move enough to work any actual magic while I'm stuck like this!"
Kosei Sharif-El-Sadad
Kosei-lion roars "I was not able to dispel the tentacles. I am sorry Florence my friend. Maybe you can try to shape back to vapor and fly out of there"
Remember Kosei casts wind walk on the group everyday before moving into the trenches ;)
"Perhaps we can now finish researching the strange pyramid..." the Garundi attempts to claw at one of the near tentacles "The stuff shall disappear by itself soon enough" he claws again at the tentacle, as if being inevitably attracted by the hypnotic movement of the appendage.
Zilchus Lyghtlode
Zilchus looks around for his prey disappointed that she got away. He keeps his sword ready, but then casts Magic Circle Protection from Evil on himself.
”Gah, that’s frustrating. I would liked to have finished her off,” Zilchus grumbles and tries to help Florence out of the tentacles. ”Do you think she’ll come back, Nidhi?” Why Zilchus thinks Nidhi knows the mind of an evil deviltress is anyone’s guess.
If nothing else happens, Zilchus will go back to studying the pillar he was *so* close to unraveling.
Nidhi Aashirya
Eshen glowers at the party, takes a 5’ step to avoid AoOs, and disappears!!
Round 3:
Nidhi stares at the spot Eshen previously stood. What the..? She continues to sing. Delay action until enemy is visible. "Why would she leave?" If the mask wasn't hiding her expression, she'd look just as confused as Zilchus.
The bard tilts her head, looking at the tangled mess on the floor. "Uh, can you wade through it?" Nidhi remains in her current position, prepared to toss out healing if things get worse.

Stelle taps her fingers irritatedly on her saddle. And like *poof*... she's gone.
She maneuvers over to Florence, pulling out a scimitar to help Zilchus help free her.
"Maybe we can find a long pole or something"
Without looking, Stelle absently tries to hand her lance to Kosei forgetting that in his current form, he is thumbless. It clatters uselessly to the floor as Florence turns to mist and finishes freeing herself.
She pulls out her crossbow.
"I'd much rather use my lance to fight the flying creatures, if anyone can help out with a potion or something I'd gladly pay you for it. Otherwise, I'll just use this old thing," she says, holding up her crossbow.
She pats Anubis on the head and says, "Do you track anything, Annie?"
Zilchus Lyghtlode
Zilchus could give Annie Air Walk after our next rest but I believe there is training and/or feats that need to be taken before Annie could Air Walk.
Zilchus finishes his perusal of the column. It’s interesting.
”Florence, I think it says here that we can write orders for all the other pyramids and they would obey. Maybe we should summon them all back here? Tell them that we are amassing here, in plain view for all to see so that Osirion might know their might...but really, we just want them close so we can destroy them. And they would do it as if their Sky Parrot commanded it,” Zilchus points to the writing.
”Nidhi? You’re clever. What else might we write?”
Zilchus spends much of the next 5 rounds scratching himself in different spots: underarm, groin, chin, behind the ear, etc.
Kosei Sharif-El-Sadad
"If you need a flying mount I could let the spirit of the eagle shape me into a giant eagle Stelle my friend" Kosei arches one of his lion eyes while he looks to Anubis Ka.
"How can we be sure the pyramid thing is not yet another trick of the demoness?" the Garundi attempts to hold the lance with his head before it lands to the ground "Sorry!"
"Perhaps we should destroy this pyramid before we attempt to deal with the other ones Zilchus Commander my friend" Kosei lion shows the claws on his paw to Zilchus in an offer to help with the scratching.
Florence Corvina
Florence doesn't have anything in particular running re: vision effects at the moment.
The misty, ghostly form of Florence makes an appreciative face at Kosei as she flies free of the tentacles, making sure to put herself well and clear of them.
"Ugh! Now I wish I had looked into purchasing means to avoid getting trapped like that," she shudders as she regroups with the others, still in mist form. "And thanks Kosei, I needed that," she adds as her friend mends the wounds she suffered.
"Um...if we knew for sure just how to destroy this pyramid I'd be a little more willing to try your idea Zilchus but as it is we're still not entirely sure how this thing works and I'd hate to have however-many-pyramids-worth of things ready to kill us show up while we're still dealing with the first one..."

Zilchus shakes his head, disagreeing. ”Nah, we can’t leave the damn pyramids hovering and floating over Ipeq. Think about what happens if they land there?! I mean, that’s a big city. Think of the children. Won’t someone think of the children?” Zilchus thinks they should recall the other pyramids now.
GM Euan
(Zilchus, you are correct, there is a trick (not a feat) that is required for Air Walk to function, but Anubis is trained in it (from a while back) and has air walked before.)
Stelle prepares for any eventuality as Anubis sniffs the incense laden air. Anubis confirms that Eshen teleported away in some manner, for she is not here any longer. Zilchus scratches himself carefully as he plots how best to use the scrivener column. Kosei fumbles the lance as he offers himself as a mount to Stelle for battle. Nidhi waits patiently with the others as Florence turns to mist to avoid the worst of the grappling. However, as she is currently in mist form, she cannot receive Kosei’s healing quite yet…
Eshen re-appears as if from invisibility with bloodshot eyes and hate on her lips. She lashes out at Nidhi from right next to her (5’ up), intent on trying to cage her in her tentacles!

I believe Nidhi is now grappled by Eshen’s tentacles as she laughs, ”I have your archer! Now what are you going to do?!”

Kosei Sharif-El-Sadad
I do not know if Kosei can dismiss the wind walk spell only from one of the targets or he has to do it from everyone, but he will do that next, now...
"Well tried, but I have read the two hundred one Scrolls of Unlimited Mindfulness at the Secret Halls of Tar-Kuata's monastery and I can undo your trickery" mindful of Nidhi's dangerous position, Kosei casts freedom of movement and rushes around the columns to barely reach the tomb rider with his paw, effectively delivering the spell on her.

”Florence, I think it says here that we can write orders for all the other pyramids and they would obey. Maybe we should summon them all back here? Tell them that we are amassing here, in plain view for all to see so that Osirion might know their might...but really, we just want them close so we can destroy them. And they would do it as if their Sky Parrot commanded it,”
Florence wrote:"Um...if we knew for sure just how to destroy this pyramid I'd be a little more willing to try your idea Zilchus but as it is we're still not entirely sure how this thing works and I'd hate to have however-many-pyramids-worth of things ready to kill us show up while we're still dealing with the first one..."Zilchus wrote:" ...What happens if they land there?! Won’t someone think of the children!?”
"I agree with Florence. Perhaps we might learn something about how the Topaz Pyramid Controls work before we order about the other pyramids? Besides, there's no order for them to land." Stelle suggests, trying to calm Zilchus's hysteria.
"Can anyone tell how long ago the last order was written on the pillar?

"If you need a flying mount I could let the spirit of the eagle shape me into a giant eagle Stelle my friend" Kosei arches one of his lion eyes while he looks to Anubis Ka.
Anubis's gaze meets the lion's. He lowers his head as his hackles go up. He bares his teeth slightly, growls, then snorts. Trying not to look surprised, Stelle leans over him him and pats the dog on the shoulder. He responds by donning his goofiest of grins and rolling out his impossibly long pink tongue.
"Um, thanks anyway Kosei, but it wouldn't be the same."

What is with this woman and her ugly tentacles? It's all about the tentacles! Ugh!
"But do you?" Stelle growls, an charges.

As the warriors strike, Eshen laughs, "But I am not there, young ones!"
She is displaced, with a 50% miss chance.
Stelle's attack: 1d100 ⇒ 75
Zilchus' attack: 1d100 ⇒ 52
Unfortunately, both strikes connect, ignoring her many layers of defenses, or perhaps overcoming is better. Either way, the limited healing she managed upon herself is insufficient, and Nidhi is able to extract herself from the tentacles as Eshen falls to the floor, dying.
She is still healing, a little, but you have a few rounds before she regains consciousness, so we are out of initiative, pending the party's actions.
Florence Corvina
"Nice! Kosei, don't worry about dismissing your spell after all; I'll just return to corporeal form on my own," Florence calls out. She's not particularly worried about the unconscious Eshen, expecting that either Zilchus or Stelle will put a quick end to her now that she's down.
Once Florence manages to regain corporeal form she moves to mend Nidhi's wounds, pulling out one of the many, many healing wands they have stowed away.
"May as well use these, right? We paid for them, and, um, it helps to save our own magics until we need them."
______________
Just going to take the average on charges instead of rolling them so 9 charges off one of the CLW wands to heal Nidhi back up and 9 for myself. Current wand in rotation has (1) charge remaining.
Zilchus Lyghtlode
Zilchus moves over the body of the deviltress, holding his falchion in two hands, cord to wrist.
He looks to Kosei, then Stelle, then Annie, then Flo and Nidhi.
"Any reason to keep her alive? She's kind of a jerk, you know? Like Ben?" Zilchus asks, staying his blade from a devastating overhand strike. "Should we keep her alive or end her?"
If no one objects, he will coup de jerk:
2d10 + 46 + 2d6 + 18 ⇒ (6, 6) + 46 + (6, 6) + 18 = 88 damage
GM Euan
Eshen pales further as the blood pools beneath her. She stops healing, and lays dead, slowly cooling.
Also, to answer and earlier question of Stelle's, while you can see past notes back and forth on the pillar, there are no dates or times, so they could have been posted anytime.
The recent posts, which seem relevant, have the Pharaoh commanding four of his pyramid fleet above the city of Ipeq, just to your east. They are positioned to attack, but are currently well above the clouds and hidden. At least according to the missives.
They topaz pyramid here lightly pulses with it's own internal energy, but otherwise the room is quiet and still.
Florence Corvina
"Um, okay, I think I misunderstood you earlier Zilchus - at least a little bit," Florence remarks after the group has had a chance to reexamine the most recent posts on the pillar. "If they're actually getting ready to attack Ipeq then yes, we should try and get them to um, leave or do something else until we can take care of things here. Do you think they'd answer a recall order without questioning it?"
Zilchus Lyghtlode
”Yeah, I think so. As long as you add ‘your mostly holy Sky Parrot wishes it’ or something,” Zilchus responds to Florence, thinking. ”Maybe we should say that the Sky Parrot wants to view his army again and wish them well before they attack? I think that might be good. Offer them a blessing or some such crap.”
”But we want them back here waiting, and visible if possible.”
Nidhi Aashirya

"If they're actually getting ready to attack Ipeq then yes, we should try and get them to um, leave or do something else until we can take care of things here. Do you think they'd answer a recall order without questioning it?"
Nidhi listens to her companions. "How functional can someone be without their entire soul? He's probably not strong enough to lay siege yet. If anything, I bet cultists are leaning over his corpse and pulling the strings." Nidhi fingers the stitching of her floating carpet. "I mean, in the other pyramid, I was mistaken for him because of the mask, remember? They'd recall for sure if we sent out an order. We have the mask."

Kosei nods to Stelle and stares at Anubis-Ka sniffing "I understand my friend. No explanations are needed"
"Soul is pillar to our physical bodies. Without pillar one collapses into a dully pile of melting clay" Kosei thoughts aloud "Oh yeah! Nidhi, you should be able to order them! Perhaps if you tell them their enemies have discovered everything and the city has a trap for the pyramids, that they shall visit a different place for destruction... perhaps distant Absalom or Oppara could give us time"
Florence Corvina

"Or, we could, um, pick somewhere still within Osirion's borders that isn't a town," Florence suggests. "Tell them that people fitting our description were spotted there - they sent a pyramid to Wati just to try and draw us out so they're obviously anxious to hunt us down."

"Um, okay, I think I misunderstood you earlier Zilchus - at least a little bit,"
Ummm, what?! Stelle looks incredulously at Florence. No, you didn't misunderstand...
"If they're actually getting ready to attack Ipeq then yes, we should try and get them to um, leave or do something else until we can take care of things here. Do you think they'd answer a recall order without questioning it?"
" ... As long as you add ‘your mostly wholly Sky Parrot wishes it’ or something, ... ”
"How functional can someone be without their entire soul? ... They'd recall for sure if we sent out an order. We have the mask."
"Uh -- "
"Soul is pillar to our physical bodies. Without pillar one collapses into a dully pile of melting clay"
"--hhh - NO!!" Stelle tries to look through her own mimicry of Hakotep's mask past Nidhi's real Hakotep Mask. "I mean, you're all right -- he's almost certainly crippled at the moment not being whole. Nidhi in her mask still has some small fragment of Hakotep's soul in it -- but it doesn't carry the same weight it did in the past, and Hakotep wants to be whole so he can destroy everything! If we play our hand here by trying to redirect those four other pyramids as Hakotep -- he'll pinpoint where the last bit of his soul is, and send all of those pyramids poised over Ipeq here -- and instead of having to deal with everything in this one pyramid, we'll have four full others to deal with as well! We wouldn't stand a chance!"
She pauses for a moment, thinking. "No. We don't know when the last message was written here, it could have been ages ago. Surely, were the destruction of Ipeq to happen, it should have happened by now. I think we should leave this, get to the bottom of this pyramid and destroy what's left of Hakotep for good."
Standard to use the Scarab of Mummy Defense to check for nearby mummies/mummys/mummi.
Zilchus Lyghtlode
Zilchus scrunches up his face, looking at Stelle. ”What?” He is really confused, looking at Nidhi and Florence. ”The Sky Parrot already knows we’re here. Remember that herald we might outside? HE F*~*ING KNOWS. Heck, we just talked to his main surrogate outside. Yeah, he knows.” Zilchus shakes his head.
”If we’re not going to send them here, then like Kosei said, we should send them to the World Wound or Oppara. Get them out of Osirion skies.”
Sopdet-Ka "Stelle"
"Yes, yes, he knows we are here, and is apparently unable to do anything about it. They" Stelle points to the sky over Ipeq, "do not know we are here. I just think that if we attempt to send a message through that pillar as Hakotep -- no matter what we say -- the occupants of the other pyramids will know this one has been compromised and will come after us. I don't think we can actually play pharaoh here, and I don't think we can take on five pyramids."
Florence Corvina
"So we should just let it alone, then? I mean, I guess you could be right and they could come here after us if we mess with it at all."
Florence thinks. "The only other thing that might work would maybe be trying to pass anything written off as a message from that creature, Eshen. She was just hanging about in here so maybe she was in charge of this pillar and sending messages through it."
"But if can't decide on what to do then we should just move on; standing around for too long at this point probably isn't a good idea," she adds, looking around nervously.
Kosei Sharif-El-Sadad
Stelle intervention seems to short-circuit Kosei's path of thought, the lion wades away of the black tentacles and into the column. The lion seems decided to write something when he realizes the conversation is not set yet. As it turns again to the other side. Kosei sits and looks at his paws, realizing he is not in disposition to write anything "Let's send them to whatever other place. It seems is the only thing we can agree upon. In the end we do not have enough information about the other pyramids, let's send them somewhere away of Ipeq until we figure out. As Florence says, the more time we spend here the more easily we can be ambushed my friends"
