"Ah 'aven't felt any presence yet... where're they at??"

Knowing full well that most presences in such a locale would be hostile and want to melt dwarf-brains for breakfast, Thorgan unstraps his axe, and begins to take shallow steps about the room as he eyes every corner and shadow waiting for Nikolai to point out something about to leap out at the group from some strange otherworldly plane or portal.

I know he won't likely spot anything, but Thorgan's convinced something's lurking here so he's looking for something now.

Shadow Touched: Something from the Shadow Plane or beyond offered you power, and you accepted. You gain the shadowbound corruption, the eerie perception manifestation, and a manifestation level of 1. At the beginning of each adventure—or any time you purposefully destroy an object of beauty, light, or joy—you can choose to increase your manifestation level by 1 (maximum 3, plus 1 for every two levels you gain beyond 14th), gaining a new manifestation in the process.

You must have a copy of Pathfinder RPG Horror Adventures to use this boon. If you do not possess a copy, you instead gain darkvision to a range of 60 feet (or increase your existing darkvision range by 30 feet) and gain light sensitivity. This also causes your eyes to fade to a dull gray, and over time your hair and skin gradually lose their color.

I'm not going to ask for verification if you actually own the book so feel free to use it during this game.

As Nikolai is recovering from his spasm and before he has time to explain himself more, it seems that something has triggered the owbs to lose their patience in conversation. From inside their containers, the mutant conjoined owbs begin casting spells and suddenly they shift out of existence for a split second before reappearing out of their containment and next to the party....

Tamerius recalls that owbs extraplanar creatures from the Shadow realm who are not bothered by the cold and are weakened by bright light, although they can also make bright light unbearable to their victims. They have some magical abilities but Tamerius does not know how their conjoined states have affected their ability to fight or cast in either a positive or negative direction.

Thorgan, meanwhile, puts his axe into one of the owbs and leaves it badly wounded!

I second that. Bishop is tough and willing to take some pain to get the job done. He feels that if he can't dodge a fireball, the burns are a lesson to make him work on it.

To the north lies a hallway. This long, narrow corridor is empty and eerily silent. Overhead, staggered braziers flicker with dying flames, and heavy shadows fall in the gaps between. At the end of the hall gloom settles into the cold steel of a massive, barred cage that stretches from floor to ceiling like some sort of inescapable jail cell.

Too late Nikolai and Davo notice that the hallway is trapped with two such areas of magical shunting and changing but luckily Davo is able to disable it so that you can move down the hallway safely. The cage is harmless after the trap has been removed and there is but one door on the south side of the hallway.

This simple room contains numerous chests, lockers, and crates that store bedrolls, ingredients, spare clothing, and other necessary materials for operating a secret laboratory far from civilization.

There are not nearly enough rations here to feed all of the researchers, but there are two sustaining spoons and a decanter of endless water that must have helped stretch the facility’s supplies.

Finding nothing more of interest in this room, you press on past the next door.

Stone pylons form a perimeter around a deep vat caked with a viscous tarry sludge. A steel bridge crosses to a smaller workstation, and a series of tubes and conduits run from the vat to the ceiling to pass through various walls on their way to unseen destinations.

He shakes his head, Nikolai's accent somehow permeating his thoughts. As any respectable dwarf would do, he blames the locale.

"Let's jess make sure nothin' tips this sludge o'er on us..."

Thorgan prepares himself to lurch away in case an ettin, ogre or arcane construct suddenly shambles to life and begins hurling sludge.

In particular, he's looking at what's in the little alcove at the end of the bridge from this distance.
