Heh...I think that was missing a 1! Should have been 162. I was a prepubescent elf! But now I'm all grown up!
Ok, cool. I was about to ask if your mommy knew where you right now. Lol!
| GM DevilDoc |
Ok.. slight mishap on reading the areas. Let me back up a bit and describe this room a bit better.
As the party looks about the room, you see that the walls are covered with carvings, and heavy bronze seals bearing the sigil of Pharasma adorn the center of each of the three doors. Most of the carvings are defaced or worn too deeply to be clearly identified, but some can be studied.
The doors everyone searches appear to be locked, but not trapped. However, you can find no sign of a keyhole or a way to open the door.

I'd rolled perception above that beat the spoiler...
Kiri looks at the graffiti on the northern wall.
"What manner of creature does not know which side of its chest its heart beats on? This seems bizarre."

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Knowledge (History): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Myantha is too intent on the carvings to even notice the graffiti. With a grave look, she turns back to the others and says "These chambers are old, far older than those simpleton priests ever imagined. These carvings reference the seven Rune Lords of Sin. Pairing that information with the recently missing bodies, I fear we may be in over our heads here..."
Levin Hessel

"Hm. It must be some kind of riddle. The left is, of course, right, for a heart. Maybe it means the left door is the right one?"

"I think halfling might be right. Is puzzle."
Rex looks at the doors and frowns. "Levin, you think you can open theez doorz? I suggest unlocking all of doorz before ve continue. What doez all you think?" His Common is slightly off.
By the way, what languages does everyone speak? Rex has Common (Taldane), Varisian, Hallit, Orc, Halfling, Elf.
Kiri Frostbrand
|
Common, Celestial, Draconic, Elven, Sylvan
Kiri does not look at Rex, but simply listens to him as she examines the graffiti. She does not bother to glance at him as she responds.
"It could prove especially unwise to open all three doors. We just heard that there are five charges to the chime, one of which must be saved for our exit from this tomb. That would only leave us one charge remaining. Depending on what we face here, that may or may not be enough to complete our mission. I suggest we open one door for now, then backtrack should it prove necessary to open another."
Rex Havoc

I was talking about unlocking the doors using mundane means, i.e., Disable Device. :) I agree we should save the charges to the chime if we can.

"Could they have suffered some magic that affects the mind? Or perhaps there's some sort of exotic creature beyond. Levin's idea has merit, though. To the left?"
Who wants to be carrying the chime?

I forgot to mention it earlier, but Levin would very much like to have the chime. He even has Perform (percussion), so it looks damn good when he uses it :-).

That's fine by me, as long as we first try opening doors using Disable Device, take 20, and generous heapings of guidance first. ;)
"So, Levin...Can you crack left door, maybe? I zee you have thiewes' tools... Thiewes' tools. Thiewes—Is wery tricky vord."

Levin looks down to find his toolset poking out of his belt. "Ah... those. Yes, well, they aren't just for thieving, you know. Community service, that's what I use them for. Like yesterday, when I met a man who'd lost the key to his front door; he was lucky I was there! Anyway, they aren't mine, I'm holding them for a friend. But more to the point, in order to use them properly I need a keyhole, or some sort of latch." He inspects the left door carefully, looking for anything that might fit the bill.

no keyhole or mechanism is visible.. just as an aside, one use of the chime will unlock all three doors, but will not open any. That would be for you to do... one at a time if you so choose.

"Fine! I'll try to be a little nicer!" Kiri whispers.
She draws her scimitar from its scabbard. It is slightly longer and straighter than a typical scimitar, though it retains a slightly-curved blade. It is a bluish-black color.
"But I'm not doing this for you!"
Kiri ceases her whispering and turns to the group. The corners of her mouth raise slightly in the semblance of a smile, though there is no accompanying warmth in her eyes or face.
"So...are we just going to talk about opening the doors, or are we going to do it?" She "smiles" once again, and only the most perceptive members of the group recognize any difference between her expression and the cold mask she has worn since she met them.

Strictly OOC, the doors are sealed with Arcane Lock at CL 15.. I really doubt that you would be able to break that DC by any spellcasting means. You are welcome to beat down the door, but that is going to be tedious and noisy. However, as far as your character knows.. anything might work. Try giving me a K. Arcana, and we will see what she knows.

Knowledge (arcane): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 I'm a fighter. No really. We know these things.

I should have asked for a detect magic, but I will roll along, since its a cantrip anyways!
Sorry for the delay, between homework sucking and work sucking, this weekend has been ugly!
After thinking for a bit, Abaal realizes that these doors are sealed with a spell well beyond the powers of the relatively inexperienced party. The party elects to ring the chime, and as a low, melodious tone reverberates through the room, the seals locking the three doors all split down the middle.
Levin Hessel
|
Sure.
Wow. I should get myself one of these, it could really come in handy. Levin peers through each doorway. "That worked rather well. So are we still going right?"
| GM DevilDoc |
A large statue stands in the corner of this L-shaped room, depicting a tall feather emblazoned with a large open eye. Though apparently carved from stone, the statue gleams with a golden-green iridescence. A pair of stone doors stands in the east wall in the short leg of the L. Carved into the floor in between the statue and the western doors is the inscription: "Though veiled behind the plumage of the soul, the Eye still sees, unblinking, through all the ages, from the beginning to the end of time. When the Three are One, and the spirit becomes flesh, the Seal may be opened and the Sleepers awakened. And the glorious apocalypse shall consume us all."

Kiri reads the inscriptions but doesn't say anything, having no idea what it could mean.
She casts detect magic in the room and looks around.
| GM DevilDoc |
Please remember to move your tokens on the map. The map links can be found in the header of my posts, and at the top of the page. For those of you that have stated that you are in the room, I have moved your tokens in a close approximation based on your descriptions.
| GM DevilDoc |
Kiri examines the inscriptions and the door, but nothing radiates as magical. The “doors” to the east are featureless except for a strangely shaped depression where they meet— examining the doors reveals they’re actually one solid piece of stone carved with a seam to look like a pair of doors.
Yall may roll perception checks if you wish, but we will not move forward until Myantha checks in.

Abaal and Rex take a careful look around the room, and find within the statue a cleverly concealed little compartment. A peculiar green feather.
Rex Havoc

"Wery strange feather. Wery strange." Rex casts detect magic.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Is the feather (or the statue) like a peacock feather, with an "eye" in the pigmentation?
| GM DevilDoc |
Rex identifies the feather as a Feather Token (Bird)
It doesn't say.. but I assume, considering the effects, that it would be the feather of a small bird of the same sort it would conjure.
