Upon meeting everyone, Arratoi grins widely and says, "Hello everyone!! My name is Arratoi! I'm a writer and I find inspiration working various missions for the Starfinders and travelling the stars. Someday, I'll write the quintessential space novel that will be read across the entire galaxy!!

"Now I know that some may struggle to pronounce my name, but that's okay. It's pronounced ARA-TOI. But honestly, if you cannot say it, just call me 'A Rat'! I know you were thinking it! So now you can say it without fear of causing me any offense!

"Oh and by the way, I have quite a few dwarven novelist colleagues who've taught me how to throw insults like a dwarf. It's quite an art! And I daresay.... addictive! So if I say things such as, 'Why won't that incompetent harpy-faced decrepit fuzzpot stoplight turn green already?!?!' then please don't take offense. I just get carried away now and then!

"Pleased to meet you all and I'm looking forward to this opportunity to..."

Arratoi looks around at the surroundings within the Adamantine Bastille, "...well, to recapture some hardened criminal fugitives who broke out of jail, perhaps?"

Can see ya got quite the earthbound tongue on ya. a slightly gargled voice says as a dwarf turns the corner and joins you marching down the stretch of hall. With a variety of rifles and guns strapped to his back, he looks amused by the ratfolk's words though another dwarf in glasses following closely behind appears more aghast...and out of breath.

No worries on that though - heard harsher language than that, and rather be hit with an insult than a slug anyway. The dwarfsizes up Arratoi and the others, his left eye whiring as the cybernetic implant within it takes measurements. Darin. And this here's Kharl - useless when the shots ring out but he ain't bad with the flesh and mind stuff. Though if they're calling all hands to prison, imagine it'll be more of the former than the latter.

An early stage barathu floats languidly toward the rest of the Starfinders. He broadcasts telepathically so everyone can hear his voice in their minds, "Subduing a prison break, with extreme force. Yeah, that's a job for me and Zangeif."

If any of the team have ever watched the gladiatorial matches broadcasted from the fighting pits of Akiton they would recognize Mr. Bison. Normally seated on top of his combat drone, Zangief the Red Cyclone, Bison is the reigning intercontinental champion in the mounted combat division of the most lucrative fighting promotion on Akiton.

At long last, the First Seeker's message come through:

Greetings Starfinders,

In my capacity as First Seeker, I’m among those overseeing the closure of the Adamantine Bastille prison. This closure is a necessary and positive change for the Society and the fruit of the collective action of many Starfinder agents.

We’re currently in the process of transferring our remaining prisoners to Steward custody, which is time consuming as prisoners are being transferred one-by-one. The last of the remaining prisoners are set to be transferred today. You’re being assigned to patrol the cellblock during this process.

This task requires capable and conscientious Starfinders able to provide both protection and, as always, assurance that the prisoners are treated with the dignity and respect due all sentient beings. Please meet me outside the entrance to the Adamantine Bastille in thirty minutes.

With my trust,

First Seeker Ehu Hadif

Handout is now on Slides.

Has anyone played Starfinder Society Scenario #2-14: Data Purge with this PC?

Each PC may attempt a Computers or Culture check to recall knowledge or a Diplomacy check to gather information to possibly know more about the Adamantine Bastille, its defenses, and its history.

Computers, Culture, or Diplomacy (DC 10):
The Starfinder Society has occasionally detained certain criminals and villains that posed an active threat to its agents or the interests of other beings or groups within the Pact Worlds.

If your result meets or exceeds a DC 15, you may open the spoiler below:

Spoiler:
The Society holds its prisoners within the Adamantine Bastille, a Starfinder-run prison that lies beneath the Lorespire Complex. Among those currently being held by the Society is Datch, the former Archdirector of Security for AbadarCorp and a confirmed criminal who waged a lengthy, multimedia smear campaign against the Starfinder Society and arranged the murder of numerous AbadarCorp employees.

If your result meets or exceeds a DC 20, you may open the spoiler below:

Spoiler:
Composed of a series of outer cells that surround three areas of high-security cellblocks designated as A-Block, B-block, and C-Block, the Adamantine Bastille is guarded by veteran Starfinder agents. Its existence has long been a source of consternation and discomfort for many Starfinder agents.

If your result meets or exceeds a DC 25, you may open the spoiler below:

Spoiler:
The B-block and C-block hold some of the most dangerous enemies of the Society as well as individuals with information too valuable to be kept unguarded. Adamantine security gates, antiteleportation wards, analytic body scanners, and surveillance cameras are among the tools incorporated into the cellblocks to protect inmates and prevent their escape.

The outer cells of A-Block have significantly less security, often housing guests who required a private and secure location to lay low or hide from enemies. In the past, the Starfinder Society has offered this service to special allies in dire need of remaining hidden from the rest of the galaxy.

If your result meets or exceeds a DC 30, you may open the spoiler below:

Spoiler:
Approximately two years ago, Datch infected the Lorespire Complex’s computer systems with malicious programming, granting her surveillance and control throughout the Starfinder Society’s headquarters. Discovering the intrusion, then First Seeker Luwazi Elsebo and Celita assigned an elite Starfinder team to secretly access Guidance’s core server. These agents snuck into the Lorespire Complex through the waste processing center and advanced up a waste chute into the Adamantine Bastille. From there, the agents accessed the maintenance tunnels leading to Guidance’s core server and uploaded antivirus files to rid the Complex’s systems of the malicious spyware.

At the entrance to the Adamantine Bastille, Steward agents and Starfinder agents alike hustle in and out of the pair of massive doors opening to the sally port that leads into the prison. First Speaker Ehu Hadif waits outside the doors. Nearby, Ixthia the Unbreakable, the copaxi leader of the Exo-Guardians, speaks with one of the Steward officers.

Upon spying you, Ehu waves one of his many hands and motions for you to approach him.

Datch? Darin's head jolts up as the ysoki's mentioned. I shot her down. Who in the Hells rezzed her?

If any of his allies look aghast at this - his hireling Kharl certainly does - the dwarf adds Rat'd just tried to usurp a whole clergy and blow up a station full of agents. Do it again. Buuuut we ain't in the thick of it now. Dunno who brought that worm back but ain't gonna slag her while she's in cuffs and not in her own controlled death sphere. much as it'd be better off for everyone...

Seeing The Frist seeker and Ziggy's replacement in the distance the dwarf moves to join them. Frankly can't believe the Stewards let us build this site in the first place. he agrees with Arratoi as they move.

Maxamas looks at Darin curiously Shot her down, really, Datch is alive. You probably forgot to check for a pulse, she was probably near death or appeared to be dead. Did your character play a scenario with Datch in it and did she die when you played that scenario?

A vanguard, who seems to be in a quantum state between a halfling and a lashunta, rushes into the room. "Sorry I'm late. My shuttle back from Tombworld - yeah, it wasn't much fun - just landed. We were scheduled in time for this, but with the Drift the way it is, you know..."

He quickly gets up to speed on the mission at hand. "Well, if you need someone to keep prisoners in line, I'm your guy. Thought I remember seeing Datch taken into custody after that. Probably had contingencies. Torch-bearer for AbadarCorp has all sorts of resources.

"Anyway, I'm ready to head in when you are."

Sorry, game this character was in was supposed to end a week ago. I am still not sure if I will be Velloro or Kneepuncher when the GM makes me lock in a character.

Devil We Know | Burden of Envy | B12 Somewhere Below (GM School)

It looks like Kneepuncher will have a chronicle sheet tomorrow, so I will move us along and I suspect you will be ready to go in time to respond.

"I’m pleased to see you here,” declares the First Seeker. “Transfers are going as planned, but one can never be too cautious. These walls hold some very dangerous, bold, and capable beings—many of whom are currently held in B-block, where I need you to patrol. While the prisoners remain within Starfinder care, the Society is responsible for their safety and security.”

Ehu extends a hand holding a datapad. “A-Block is fully cleared. You’ll find approximately three dozen prisoners remain in the Bastille. Over half of those remain in B-block, which you will be patrolling. Information regarding the prisoners can be found on this datapad."

"Several cells in B-block have been emptied, but not all. Of course, during an activity as sensitive as prisoner transfers, one should keep a vigilant eye on all areas within the cellblock.”

“We’ve seen to it the surveillance equipment, protective wards, and security measures in the Adamantine Bastille have been checked and re checked prior to your arrival,” adds Ixthia.

“All are in optimum working order. The prior patrol reported no incidents. Nevertheless, given the nature of the remaining prisoners, we thought it wise to maintain patrols by our most capable agents throughout the transfer process.”

They hold out a key card. Image now on Slides.

“This opens each of the cells in B-block, should you need access at some point while conducting your patrol. You’re responsible for monitoring the prisoners in B-block. You need not concern yourself with the process of transferring the prisoners over to the Stewards. Another agent, Jewel Whitforge, is handling the more bureaucratic tasks, such as reviewing transfer orders, tracking the accompanying documentation, and showing Steward agents to the appropriate cell numbers upon arrival. Though I expect her duties to keep her occupied during your patrol, she knows the Adamantine Bastille better than most agents and is a useful resource should any issues arise.”

Any questions?

"Don't expect me to treat the prisoners with any type of respect if they act up," Mr. Bison says telepathically.

Darin lets out a whistle as he too scans the prisoner list. This is B-block? The Hells we kept in C? The Devourer?

The dwarf also looks over the block schematics, then raises an eye towards Ixthia. These 'waste portal's: that a fancy term or literal magic portal? One-way I'd assume, but that could be a security problem if someone's able to hack the spell to widen or re-route it.

"I believe Garvis Marst flew a stolen starship into a planet at a high velocity while attempting to avoid capture," recalls Ixthia. "The criminal narrowly escaped, but the spacecraft collided with the planet. Debris from the resulting explosion was thrown into the atmosphere, severely altering the planet's climate, and leading to a mass extinction extinction event."

"The prisoners remaining within the Adamantine Bastille are the ones the Society has deemed to be a significant threat due to the violence of the crimes of which they have been found guilty," Ehu replies. "These prisoners await transfer to the care of the Stewards, where they’ll remain incarcerated."

"The diverse make-up of Society members and staff can make for some interesting translations at times, but the description is accurate," notes Ixthia. "The 'waste portals' in the cells do not contain any magical properties. If they did, there would be a risk that their capabilities could be limited or dampened as standard, anti-magic wards are utilized within some of the individual's cells as well as particularly sensitive areas of the prison."

The vanguard resolves into a green-haired halfling wearing a large suit of powered armor with thrusters. He uses his prosthetic right arm to adjust the position of a large shield, then leans back and smiles at Ixthia.

"Call me Kneepuncher," he says casually to anyone who accepts his invitation. "Seems straightforward enough. If anyone misbehaves, I'll be sure to get them back in line."

He then appears to be distracted for a moment, and whispers to no one in particular, "If they misbehave. I said what I meant."

Devil We Know | Burden of Envy | B12 Somewhere Below (GM School)

At the briefing’s end, Ehu pauses for a moment, then says, "I would like you each to seriously consider what you’d like to see the Bastille become once it’s closed and remodeled."

"Now, if you will excuse us, Ixthia and I have other duties to attend to." The First Seeker and the leader of the Exo-Guardians depart to make their way towards an arriving Steward vehicle, allowing you to set about on the mission ahead.

You enter the Adamantine Bastille and travel deep into its interior where a single entrance allows access to B-block.

This room has a series of computer terminals used for processing transfer documents and unlocking the cellblock doors. Monitors cover the walls, providing live feeds of the cellblock alleys, the sally port, and the entrances to the other cellblocks.

Only one terminal is currently in use, mostly obscured by several stacks of old-fashioned bound paper books piled upon it, and occupied by a bookish, dwarven woman. She turns her chair to stand, knocking over piles of books in the process.

“Greetings! I’m Jewel Whitforge,” says the dwarven woman by way of introduction. She flashes a chipper smile before bending down to start picking books up off the floor.
A picture of Jewel now on Slides.

“Once I get these books taken care of, I’ll buzz you through the security door into B-block.”

“Sorry about the mess,” she continues. “Staffing has been reduced as the Adamantine Bastille undergoes decommission and the number of prisoners is reduced. Still, Royo insisted the remaining prisoners be provided these books as long as they remained here. They may be old-fashioned, but Royo says they open opportunities for learning and entertainment without the risks that come with giving inmates access to the infosphere."

"To be honest, I think Royo just sends the books down here to make room for more books on his library shelves. If he has his way, this cellblock and all the others will be converted into full-on library wings!”

Culture (DC 15):
You know that agent Jewel Whitforge is well-known within the Starfinder Society. She joined the Society five years ago in the wake of the Scoured Stars Incident and quickly rose to her current administrative position within the Adamantine Bastille. She’s known for her efficiency, intelligence, and friendliness.

Shortly thereafter, you are buzzed through the entrance and free to begin your patrol of the block.

"My understanding is that you were to be briefed by the First Seeker. If he didn't give you specific instructions, then I would assume that you can use whatever method you wish to patrol the area."

"If you are asking me for the best method to use to patrol the area? I would suggest moving as a single unit and checking on individual cells. Maybe start with the interior, then circle the perimeter," Jewel suggests. "But, I don't want to contradict anything that the First Seeker may have told you. I've got enough to handle as it is." She punctuates her statement by dropping the last of the dropped books back on the console.

"That being said, I think it important to have a presence on the floor, so to speak. The surveillance systems are still working, so I can keep an eye on things from here, but the prisoners in B-block are among the most dangerous so have boots on the ground is important for security purposes. The First Seeker clearly agrees, which is why he sent you, I believe."

"Nice to meet you, Nimh. And you flatter me," Jewel says with a smile and a slight blush. "I do my best to keep atop of things, but there has been quite the flurry of activity over the past few weeks with all of the changes and transfers going on. Still, if that old ysoki, Royo, wants these prisoners to learn a few things during their final days here, then I am going to do whatever I can to help him. And if it can make a difference in the lives of some of these inmates, all the better, don't you think?"

There is quite a variety among the books. Most are non-fiction selections, such as Hamfler's Guide to Castrovel, Beginner's Manual to Starship Repair, and Anatomy of Grays, but a few poetry books and classical works of fiction are also seen. Nothing strikes Nimh as being particularly odd or out-of-place.

Generally, I consider it to be a bad idea for Starfinders to split the party."

"Maybe start with the interior, then circle the perimeter," Jewel suggests. "But, I don't want to contradict anything that the First Seeker may have told you. I've got enough to handle as it is." She punctuates her statement by dropping the last of the dropped books back on the console.

"That being said, I think it important to have a presence on the floor, so to speak. The surveillance systems are still working, so I can keep an eye on things from here," she continues while pointing to an active monitor. "But the prisoners in B-block are among the most dangerous so having boots on the ground is important for security purposes. The First Seeker clearly agrees, which is why he sent you, I believe."

Nimh Starfarer wrote:

Nimh will stop to chat with Jewel before moving through the door.

Greetings Jewel, I am Nimh. From what I've heard, it not like you to get behind on something as mundane as putting away books. Is everything OK?

He will also glance at the books to see if there is anything out of the ordinary as he helps pick them up from the floor.

Most are non-fiction selections, such as Hamfler's Guide to Castrovel, A Beginner's Manual to Starship Repair, and Grays' Anatomy, the cover of which depicts a short being with long, willowy limbs and a bulbous head with oversized black eyes.

There are also a few poetry books and classical works of fiction are also seen. Nothing strikes Nimh as being particularly odd or out-of-place.

What would you like to do next, Starfinders?

Roughly every 30 minutes, a Steward officer is scheduled to enter the cellblock to take a prisoner into custody and ready them for transport." notes Whitforge. "The latest passed through about five minutes ago, shortly before you arrived."

To keep us moving...

Although the cells in B-block vary in size and accommodations depending on the biology of the individuals formerly or presently housed within them, each shares the same common features. A single, transparent wall composed of transparent aluminum faces the alley. A single metal bed tray, sink, and waste portal are bolted to the interior, adamantine-coated walls. A small desk and chair are bolted to the floor. The interior ceilings are 20 feet high, but the exterior extends to the cellblock ceiling, which is 25 feet high.

The alleys and cells all have normal light.

Following the planned patrol route, the party passes first by a cell containing a witchwyrd, then another containing a white-furred ysoki.

“Hello, Starfinders!" calls Datch.
Her picture now on Slides.

"I’m tickled red that you’ve decided to stop by for a house-warming visit. Do you like what I’ve done with the place? It could use a fresh coat of paint and some curtains, but otherwise I think it looks rather cozy, don’t you?” The white ysoki beams with a wide grin as she gestures from the transparent walls of her cell to the steel desk in front of her. “For those I haven’t met, I’m Datch, and I’m known for more than just my eye for fine décor. Sure, the Society and I may have had our differences in the past, but I’m willing to let bygones be bygones.”

Do you wish to engage with the ysoki or continue with the patrol?

Datch, you will excuse us if we skeptical of your attempts at reconciliation. After all, you did a lot of damage to the Society, and a lot of people will never forgive you for that.

Generous of you to compromise after your plan went to $&%*^ and your already in a cell. Darin barks back at the rat, not really slowing down much for a repartee. Sure your new cell on the station'll be just as nice as this one. Can't imagine AbadarCorp's forgotten about you yet.

Speaking to the rest of the party, "I don't really have anything to say to Datch. Don't really know him to be honest..."

Seeing the negative reaction from his fellow teammates, Arratoi decides it best to not interact with Datch and moves along with the patrol.

And you won't again. Darin says. The dwarf begins walking off, calling back. But keep fishin' if you want. Doesn't matter anymore - just like you.

As they patrol, Darin will keep an eye to confirm that the right individuals seem to be in the right cells - based on the prisoner list we got. And that there aren't any extra empty cells beyond what we were told to expect.

He'd linger a bit at cell 404 (never seen a lucandrian before) and 302 (and perhaps ask how a dwarf could be so reckless and ambivalent about how important keeping tech functioning properly is to living...well everywhere in the galaxy).

Darin finds that the information provided is up-to-date as he does not spy any extra empty cells.

Interesting that you noted those two prisoners as I just happen to have created some art for each as part of them for a pending Starfinder Infinite project that I currently have on a back burner. Pictures of each are now up on Slides.

If asked about his hatred towards tech, Durgrit explains how he was raised within a traditional dwarven clan, spending his childhood engaged in the Quest for the Sky. Sadly, after decades of hardwork, his clan's quest did not come to an end with the breaking of Golarion’s surface. Instead, what awaited Durgrit and his clan on the journey upwards was a team of Starfinders accompanied by a camera crew filming an episode of some awful reality show.

The arrival of the Starfinders brought a series of disheartening and disturbing revelations. First, Durgrit learned, he was not on Golarion as he had believed all his life. Instead, he was on some artificial moon and the Quest for the Sky, which had been driving his clan upwards, had been completed on Golarion centuries, if not millennia ago. Tech had been used to dupe Durgrit and his clan. Worse, when he finally left the moon, Durgrit learned that tech had infected the whole of known civilizations, causing their populace to grow weak and soft as they relied on tech for even the most basic of needs.

Fun story, I totally expected the "final crime" listed for Durgrit to be removed during final edits and was incredibly pleased to see when the scenario was released that it had been left in there!

If asked, the haan assures you she had no hand or other appendage in planetary eradication. Beyond that, Ethru Nurrl, merely offers you a personally-spun web balloon as a bright, flickering solar mote encircles her head.

Life Science (DC 12):
Haans fly not via wings but by deftly weaving their silken webbing into balloons, which they then inflate with buoyant gases expelled from tubes in their shells. Combining this upward lift with web sails and occasional blasts from their gas tubes, haans are able to ride the winds of their homeworld with terrifying speed and precision, often bobbing along just at the leading edge of a storm front.

Once they locate prey, haans ignite their jets of flammable gas using sparks from specially evolved strike plates in their leg chitin, creating biological flamethrowers. The roasted prey is then quickly caught and secured to a balloon of its own before it can fall away into the planet’s depths.

Physical Science (DC 12):
A balloon containing flammable gas produced from a biological source could explode and quickly spread flames if ignited by even a small spark. On a planet with lush, dry vegetation, the result could lead quickly to wide-spread wild fires and large-scale loss of leaves and bark from native trees.

Culture (DC 15):
Though undisciplined, Ehtru Nurrl has developed a number of solarian techniques, one of which allows her to create a small spark at a distance.

Nimh Starfarer wrote:

If she did, do you think she would tell you? The draelik seems to fancy herself an artist, making etchings in metal with chisels and weak acids.

Nimh Starfarer wrote:
ABB205 and 206 - Two felony Murder. Are they related?

Yes.

Culture (DC 15):
Each is a member of the infamous "Horn Gang", along with the gang's leader, Meddo "The Horn" Borvakis.

Nimh Starfarer wrote:

Life Science, reduce the DCs of Life Science checks by 5 when recalling knowledge about xenobiology: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Physical Science: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Culture: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Culture related to ABB205 and 206: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

Nimh will pass along some information
I wouldn't accept a balloon from Ethru Nurrl. Haan use flammable gas to create their spun balloons, and Ethru has developed a technique for creating a spark at a distance, making them more bombs than balloons.

Looks like Meddo "The Horn" Borvakis and Scrupps were in a gang together, so we need to keep and eye on them for cooperation in an escape attempt.
