be sure that the levels you get sneak attack don't overlap, a 1 lvl dip in monk would work well

Origami, you are a candidate.

Kana is correct, your equipment is confiscated, but you get it all back soon in the first adventure.

Finally finished!

Background:

Gurwen hadn’t always been known as the blood maiden. Believe it or not, she was a part of a very well established household in the city of Talingarde. She sang, danced, and learned to create wonderful bows and other creations from wood. Her mother would teach her of the wonders of magic and explain to her the who’s who of their town. She made Gurwen's lessons fun, teaching her how to cast magic in fun and new creative ways. Her father taught her to shoot. She became quite a skilled marksman in those few short decades. Then it all went wrong.

One day when her mother and she were out at the market shopping for dinner, they were attacked. These bandits robbed her mother of her spell book and covered her face with a sack. They grabbed for Gurwen but were instead greeted by an icicle to the face. She screamed, but no one did anything. Frantically, she searched the crowd for faces. Then she saw him. The King. She screamed at him for help, trying to get his aid, but he only watched. Seeing he was of no help, she kicked at the bandits and tried to stop them from dragging her mother into the alley. She was only able to stop the one; the other two proceeded to slam her mother’s head repeatedly into the concrete. As they ran away, she ran to her mother, screaming and crying. She held her mother, head still covered, and rocked back and forth. That day, she vowed to kill the King.

15 years later, she actually tried.

She snuck in past the guards, made it half way into the castle and lined up her shot. She was so giddy with the joy of revenge she didn’t even hear the footsteps behind her. She looked up, gasped, and all went dark.
Next thing she remembered was standing in front of the very king she tried to kill, still very much alive to her dismay. She was too furious with her failure that she barely heard what he was saying. Something about High Treason, drawn and quartered, prison until execution. None of what he was saying mattered. She had a mission to finish, and by Asmodious, she was going to finish it, very slowly, and very painfully, for everyone involved…

Appearance:

Gurwen is 6’2” with very feminine features. She has the beauty and grace of an elf and the stance and power of a hunter. Her long black hair falls to just below her shoulder blades, which she keeps stylishly up in braids. She dresses in dark greens, reds, and blacks, very much at home in extravagant clothing. Her clear blue eyes and innocent looking face give the impression of a sweet, gentle woman.

Personality:

She, however, is not a sweet and gentle woman. She is a bitter, snarky woman with venom in her words. She has a difficult time relating to normal folks and has the horrible habit of being just a bit elitist. Okay, a LOT elitist. She has made friends, though, despite her callous nature. She might be hard to be around at first, but if you align with her goals or her viewpoints, she comes around quickly, knowing she needs all the help she can get.

Whack-a-Rogue here with my Ninja/Sorcerer. This is, by far, the darkest character I've ever made. :-) No starting gear: I'm not really sure what to give him besides a dagger, rope, and some thieves' tools.

Here's a voice sample of The Cloaked One. ;-)

Drahzar the bloody is done.

Why did people always look at him weird when he showed up as their guide? Why assume the guide has no gear and should have a bow. Bows are to impersonal, you can't see the life drain out at that range, better with something closer, a throwing spear, or better yet toe to toe, face to face.

This new group looked interesting, perhaps there would be one of sufficient soul strength among them. They were always so trusting, going to sleep beside some man they handed a few coins to, as if a dozen silver bought his undying loyalty. But they soon found out the truth, once they were chained to the alter. Then the ritual could begin. Oh, they didn't trust him then, but it was too late. If only they understood what I had meant when I said their life was going to be in my hands, the fools. But a contract is a contract, and Asmodeus and his servants honoured their contracts if nothing else.

------

Account of Capture, Human Male, Drahzar

Ser

As the squad leader of the patrol it is my duty to inform you of the circumstances of our capture of one Drahzar. My patrol found him in a clearing, standing beside an alter that had a dying human male chained to it, there were fell symbols carved into the earth around the alter. The accused was beside the alter holding a knife covered in blood that was clearly from the chained man.

After we took the man Drahzar into custody the only things we could get from him were his name and the words "He agreed to the contract, He agreed to the contract."

In order to avoid corrupting the people at his trial, I recommend that we only charge this Drahzar with murder.

Excellent work everyone, the characters stats and backgrounds thus far look exceptional! I will have a difficult time choosing in 10-11 days. I'm so giddy with the fact that this group will be so awesome!

The Cloaked One, indeed, that's a very dark backstory! It's got that slasher movie feel to it. Oh, do you have a creepy children's rhyme for him?! And I have an idea, so expect a PM!

This is Kana, presenting Jaq. He's an Inquisitor (Infitrator) / Summoner. I can make a seperate Alias if need be for Deirdre, his Eidolon.

For your reference, though all is in this alias:

About:

Born to a tiefling mother and her demonic lover, Jaq was quite unexpected. An Aasimar was the last thing they expected their child to be, but upon seeing the birthmark on his chest, they knew that nothing about Jaq was ordinary. As Jaq grew up, he rarely felt the pull of his celestial heritage, instead he felt a more demonic pull. He learned to trick, to lie, to fight. But he could tell something was missing from his life, a purpose. What did this mark upon his chest mean?

He started looking and researching, what could it mean? He was determined to find an answer. It took weeks, but he finally found it in a hidden copy of an unholy text. It was an Unholy Symbol that he found; it looked uncannily like his birthmark, or was it the other way around? This symbol belonged to the demoness, Sifkesh. That night, when he prayed to her for the first time, everything finally felt right. Soon every night he prayed to her, and he was blessed. With Sifkesh as his guide, he finally had a purpose. He would be her inquisitor. He would corrupt mortal souls to condemn them to her realm. Sifkesh assited him in calling a servant to aid him in his quest, this servant was Deirdre.

Jaq and Deirdre left the home Jaq knew and traveled. He worked his way into different churches, small ones of minor religions. Corrupting while pretending to be one of them. His silver tongue got him into many doors, leaving many a dead believer in his wake time he left. He worked his way across Taligarde, leaving death in his wake. Eventually he felt ready to take on the most powerful church in all of Taligarde, Mitra.

He managed to forge documents declaring him as a member of Mitra’s clergy to gain access. He took his time, slowly corrupting them. Soon, his work paid off. He sent their souls off with a prayer to Sifkesh, pleased with his task. But it seemed, word traveled quickly. For it was not long after this, with him still standing in the middle of the blood drenched cathedral, that the paladin’s appeared. They had paused a moment, seeing the temple in such vile desecration. Jaq was still calling prayers to Sifkesh, giving her praise. They moved quickly, and arrested him. He was labeled a mass murder, though all his victims had actually killed themselves. Murder, Blasphemy, Heresy, Forgery, and Desecration were all sentenced upon him. He did not deny any of them, for why should he? The charge that was to condemn him to his death was the one he had committed by proxy the most, the more vile crime he of those he was sentenced with, Murder. He had laughed when he was sentenced. If he was to die here, he knew he would be welcomed by Sifkesh with open arms, for he had sent her many souls. If he lived, the more days he had to serve her. And serve her he would.

Jaq's Personality:

With a tendency towards causing chaos, Jaq has always served Sifkesh faithfully. He is extremely zealous to his chosen deity, believing that it really her that chose him. He loves to trick people into believing his is one of them, usually their religion. He pretends, and guides and corrupts them. When they finally realize the truth, his true worship can truly begin. The vile acts he convinces them to unwittingly commit lead to many a member performing suicide, which was his goal. Upon that act they have committed themselves into the arms of Sifkesh. A bit of a jokester, he does know that at times one must become serious, but his main goal around others is often trying to make them underestimate him. He is a hard worker, as can be seen with his work and training to be able to use anything he can pick up and use it to defend himself and catch people off guard.

Deirdre's Personality:

Vicious and bloodthirsty, she strives for the same goal of corruption as Jaq. She attacks with the aim to kill, and is often grinning with a cheshire grin in battle, showing all her sharp pointy teeth.

Jaq's Description:

Jaq looks like an oddly colored human, with a light bronze tan, his hair is blackish grey near his scalp, turning a creamish off white as it reaches the tip. It sticks straight up, spiking some. His eyes are silver. He never has to shave, always appearing cleanshaven. While a bit of a klutz, he knows how to command his presence. And often dresses in the clothes of different religions, depending on which he is claiming to be a member of currently. Oh his chest, there is a birthmark in the shape of Sifkesh’s unholy symbol. When he has Deirdre summoned, his Eidolon mark on his forehead is Sifkehs’s demon rune.

Deirdre's Description:

Deirdre is appearance is a variation of a Seraptis demon, though currently she only has two arms. Ghostly pale, long red gashes cover her form. Her hair is a red it looks black. Strait and long it hits about her mid-back, with a pair of pointed ears peeking out from under her hair.. Her eyes appear to be empty holes, with red tears of blood running from them. Her mouth is full of razor sharp teeth, and her hands are coated red with blood, long claws extending from the tips of her fingers. She walks barefoot, and the symbol on her forehead is Sifkesh’s demon rune.

Veldrin's backstory won't change, but I can do up some stuff on his personality, and description, along with his updated stats. I'll get to them tomorrow, most likely.

GM, feedback on his, if you don't mind?

If you want to give me the Half-Dragon template later on I'm fine with it, I'll just have to adjust his further planning. (I was planning to take full Dragon Disciple, so Half-Dragon would give me a lot of those abilities.)

If I have approval for that, I'll start editing the character to reflect that change. (Also, how do the Templates work in the leveling? Will our class levels or whatever change because of taking the Template?)

EDIT: Perhaps add more Fighter levels in? not sure how to remake it into a lovely way.

EDIT2: To give a better idea of what I'm building: A Hexcrafter Magus to take advantage of Spellstrike, then combine it with Eldritch Heritage for the Abyssal Bloodline in conjunction with perhaps still 4 levels of DD? and advancing the spellcasting portion of the Magus to max while not taking full Magus. (Not sure what else to add in, perhaps adding Antipaladin to aid saves)

No problem, Monkeygod! Veldinis is very interesting. The bit about crashing the wedding was particularly interesting and, I will admit, humorous. I can just picture zombies doing a shuffling dance dressed in their finest attire! The wording about the 'grading' at the academy goes against my preconceptions of Drow wizard academies a little, as I view them as more achievement-based than grade-based, but it's VERY minor and will not affect my choosing. One thing, I would like to know a little bit more about his personality. He seems to be a bit unhinged, what with the wedding murderfest/zombification scenario and his mad cackling, and I would like some more exploration of that. Unless I just read the character the wrong way! All in all, a solid character storywise. Curious as to what you're gestalting him with!

If anyone else would like a critique, just let me know! I only critique on request, since changes happen so often during the frenzied character creation progress.

Kermah, yes, there can be a ritual to 'unlock' the power of your blood, so Half-Dragon is allowed. I figured it would save you from having to dip so many levels in Dragon Disciple and hey, most people are probably getting a template, so why not Half-Dragon? Or if you can prefer, you can go with your original build and take an undead template of some sort? It will be interesting to see what you decide.

EDIT: No level adjustments necessary. All I shall say is that the universe you're playing in is balanced and powerful evil is opposed by equally powerful good!

Shadow Lodge

I would suggest soul knife over other melee martial classes, and zen archer if you want a ranged attacker

@GM: he's heavily influenced by Hypno's Lullaby, so a creepy children's song is right up his alley. I also see him as incredibly attractive and trustworthy (he is an Aasimar, after all). Wouldn't hurt a fly! Then he puts the mask on....

As far as templates go, drahzar would probably lean towards half-fiend if anything.

Also thoughts on Drahzar?

Thoughts on Jaq and Deirdre would be appreciated as well. I feel Deirdre needs some more development personality wise, so I may work on that if I get time later today.

I know next to nothing about Psionics, but it occurred to me that the Dread class meshes very well with the direction I'm taking with my character. Once I qualify for Arcane Trickster, I may start taking Dread levels on the other side. Does this work? The class seems tailor-made for a Scarecrow/Bogeyman vibe, but how does it play? I can't find anything online aside from the official class writeup.

i've not personally played the class, but from what I've seen and from what my friend (username icehawk) has said of his play experience it's a solid class

Drahzar, your character is solid statwise with a quick look over. Your backstory also makes things interesting. Do you intend on making dark deals with NPCs? That could be very interesting indeed. Always loved the evil lawyer part of Asmodean dogma, as it reminds me a lot of 1,001 Arabian Nights and Faust. Then again, despite my LG personality, I am a LE GM that likes to exploit players wording in contracts and Wish spells! So yep, I like the character!

Jaq, your character is solid stat-wise as well and I was pleased you chose a sort of 'auspicious birth' idea, because most people limit that solely to good characters. It will be interesting to see how you interact with the Asmodeans if you are selected: hide your faith from them since Sifkesh is a fallen devil-turned-demon or be open in your association, confident they can see the bigger picture of the cause? Also, will you be looking at gaining the Obediance abilities from Book of the Damned 2? All it requires is a daily, hour-long ritual that I think can be done while preparing spells. Sifkesh's, if I remember correctly, has you performing a mock suicide (No damage, just shallow cuts to the wrists or light asphyxiation with a noose,) while defiling holy texts. I'll check the book to make sure though.

The Cloaked One, I have never played the Dread before, nor the Cryptic, despite my inclinations towards cerebral play-styles. If you wanted to give it a try, then go ahead. All Dreamscarred Press materials are allowed. Those guys did for psionics what Pathfinder did with the classes it converted from 3.X!

I will review crunch heavily a few days before selection, but right now I'm mostly looking at fluff, as a character can be the best built in the world but if it doesn't appeal to me storywise, I am not as interested. Those who have asked for reviews of their characters, I looked over your statblocks to make sure there were no glaring errors, as right now I'm focused on the backstories of the characters. I will go over them with a fine tooth comb in a few days though, making absolutely sure every single number is in order.

Shadow Lodge

I'm curious to see which characters the other players would choose to have with them if they were DM

would it be considered rude to post such?

6 PCs are going to make it in yes?

Wade Willhelm, it is not rude to me but others may view it as such. You may ask, but it will not factor very much into my selection process, because I am selecting people based on how much I like their concepts and how well I think they can perform. Civility and party cohesion/cooperation are expected no matter who I choose, as that's how these PBPs are possible. If someone has problems with playing with a particular person, please let me know and I will look into the situation.

EDIT: Yes, 6 PCs will be selected.

After taking a look at obedience, it would work very well for him. I'll plan on taking that feat at third level or so (when I can get the ranks it requires). He likely already does part if not all the ritual, just without the feat and the bonuses currently.

Sifkesh's ritual is a ritualistic suicide. It starts with scribing a note lambating one's enemies before pretending to commit suicide via cutting or strangulation. Jaq would go with the cutting option given a choice in the matter.

Drahzar is definitely heading the evil contract lawyer route, with some good old ritualistic sacrifice thrown in for those who fail to meet their contractual obligations. Fell contracts may indeed be entered into by him, or binding others to him. Perhaps any half fiend abilities he would gain will be from pacts he has agreed to, while searching for loop-holes to avoid negative side effects.

Shadow Lodge

I'm going the classic undead master route, as I did not see any other applicants who were also doing so I decided to specialize in it
Plus we need(ed) a healer who can use both positive and negative energy.

How many applicants do we have?

Drahzar can pick up channeling feats if needed as well

If I'm not too late to change my concept (Magus is being finicky and I'm not able to mix in my lovely Dragon Disciple the way I would like to [yes, even with the Half-Dragon]).

The point of this character was to gain the highest possible strength and then pummel people with it. Maybe a bit of spellcasting in their as well.

Therefore, I'm thinking about taking Bloodrager from the playtest instead of Magus. Eldritch Heritage will also be taken so that I can level the sorcerer Orc or Abyssal bloodline for up to a +6 Inherent bonus.

Actually, Veldrin is undead master focused as well, and since he'll probably end up Bones Oracle, he can heal too.

Shadow Lodge

Well yeah but you don't use cure spells, and I think you have I be neutral or have spicific class features to channel both positive and negative energy (like be an oracle of life and a cleric)

I've made a couple changes... Namely, dropping the Sorcerer stuff in favor of the Dread. I'm shooting for a sweet innocent-looking guy who's actually the physical manifestation of fear. Possibly going Shadowdancer at some point - if all goes well. :-)

oh if you want max str you want my hulk build

Start with alchemist (rage chemist, vivisectionist)/barbarian (drunken brute, maybe also invulnerable rager)
As your potions are pree made you can cast in rage, and because of your drunken brute archetype it's as a move action that doesn't provoke
when you qualify for it take the "master chemist" prestige class
And on the other side you can make it even sweeter by takin a one lvl dip in oracle and taking the "rage prophet" PrC

Though as drunke brute only gives up fast movement you could apply tha archetype to the blood rager at DM discression, though it means no oracle/rage prophet

daww I liked the arcane trickster stuff, ah well, still sweet concept.

Yeah, I'd forgotten how difficult it was to get ranged sneak attack consistently. Plus, "fire blaster" and "sneaky serial killer" don't mix particularly well. Instead, I get to be a Scarecrow/Boogeyman/every Creepypasta video ever/nightmare creature thing. :-)

Shadow Lodge

As a sorscerer you could choose teleport/demension door spells and get the demensional darvish feat chain,
Or the spell greater invisablity, or blink,
And there are divination and illusion spells
You can summon flankers
And there are spells like knock, that make your secondary job as the skill monkey (and primary job as the assisan/thief) sooo much easier,
Plus one of the abilities of an arcane trickster is to simply declare an attack a sneek attack
You don't have to be a blast sorscerer,
But hey, your character, you'd only be three lvls of dread behind,

Screw it, going to go for the full AM RAGING BARBARIAN.

Gain immunity to fatigue somehow, then combine Rage and Bloodrage for face destruction.

It's going to be good. (maybe dipping Dragon Disciple because I want...)

Shadow Lodge

Lame oracles are immune
Are you saying you're going barbarian/bloodrager?
You can't do that, you can't mix bloodrager with barbarian or sorcerer
You could mix bloodrage and mutagen though

Gimme a bit longer to figure out what I want fully. Sorry for taking a while to figure it out.

EDIT:

Bloodrager+something else will be it, and I'll put up a background before I finish designing it.

EDIT2: Will we allow retraining rules? If so, then that frees me to try out a mostly natural attack focused build with Arcane Bloodrager and Dragon Style to damage. Can I do this? (please?)

Shadow Lodge

If you use alchemist you can take feral mutagens and whatnot

Wow, that's a good bit of posts to respond to!

Lord Foul II, Monkeygod is able to heal with both positive and negative energy. He may not be able to 'channel' both, but he can still accomplish it with basic spells.

As a note, ALL people who have Channel Energy must take Selective Channel as a feat before people start gaining templates. You can either take it now or at level 2, but it's a MUST, so other party members are not damaged.

Kermah, no worries on the time, you have over a week left before my decision on who is selected. And you are referring to the retraining rules from Ultimate Campaign, right? If so, then yes, you may retrain, but ONLY ONCE. The rest seems legal rules-wise, so go ahead and make a natural attack beast.

Everyone, you may use the retraining rules later but ONLY ONCE and only before 7th level, as any more than that could get ridiculous bookkeeping-wise.

Does that cover the last batch of questions and comments adequately?

Shadow Lodge

I was referring to drahzer, MG kinda ninjaed me

One question
Would you allow someone who is a blood rager to take barbarian or sorscerer archetypes so long as it replaces class features they actually have?

So what I was planning was to take 2 levels of Ranger in order to get permanent Claws, then retrain those levels for one level of Lame Oracle and something else once I obtained the template since the Ranger levels would be meaningless.

It's either that or I just don't take the Ranger levels and focus on manufactured weapons for the first levels until I get the Half-Dragon, and retrain feats to work with those natural attacks.

What would you recommend?

Drahzar might not be able to channel positive energy, but as a cleric/ ranger he can definitely get channeling feats.

Also since feats come at odd levels almost no one can choose selective channeling on level up to 2, but I can drop improved initiative if you want for it.

Browman, whoops, hit the wrong number key on my phone! You know what I meant though.

Lord Foul II, I would not. I would allow them to be taken and the uses per day added together, in the instance of Rage, for example. So yeah, perfectly fine by me if someone takes both, just so long as they know that they will not be as versatile when all is said and done.

Kermah, I would recommend the former option.

Taking selective channeling at 3rd will not be an issue.

Also, letting Jing the Bandit in the running, since he was taking the time to make sure everything was in order with gestalt before posting. I felt it was somewhat cold I cut him off like that. However, he is the ONLY exception to that rule! Just letting everyone know so there's no hostility when he posts.

For the Half-Dragon template, would the Breath Weapon advance with class levels rather than racial HD?

I would like to point out that the playtest rules state he can't but your game, your house rules trump listed rules

so long as you tell us about them that is :P

levels give hit dice...

Kermah, yes. In fact ANY template selected with racial HD will rely on class HD.

GM, just a note,
I hope I am not overstepping my bounds by answering questions asked to you
I'm just excited, trying to help.
I'm not trying to be a second DM (though I have done that in the past, and it worked out well enough)

Lord Foul II, you are correct, but I suspect this will change in the final version. And besides, most people don't use gestalt. As for the answering portion, I would prefer to answer the questions myself, as my ruling is final and as such, is of more benefit to the asker. If it's something opinion based, then please feel free to answer. But ruling wise, the shining hand in the sky, me, determines it. Sound good?

I'm glad he's getting a shot. ^^ Glad you could join us Jing.

How feasible is it for Jaq to go a half-fiend (more demon than devil) route for a template? I'm still debating if Jaq will take it or not, but I'd like to know my options.

when you are on, and someone asks a Rules (note capital R :P) question, I will stay quiet
