Sander takes a deep breath and then launches two bombs toward the nearest giant.

Assuming they're not something with blue skin or otherwise exotic, he throws a couple frost bombs at the nearest one. If they do have blue skin, use fire bombs instead. If yellow goes down before I act, I'll take a 5-ft. step to the northwest and target white instead.

Chwaer continued hacking away at her giant's leg, trying to bring the behemoth down by herself. She hacked a wedge out of the leg, and the creature looked as if it would fall before swinging down at the dwarf, who nimbly dodged aside.

Storn's blows were deflected by his primaty target, but the giant's melee defense left it open to Sander's freezing bombs. Under the explosions, one of Quill's arrows sneaked through. The giant remained standing, still swinging his greatclub, thoough it looked as if he were on his last legs. Of course, those last legs were still very strong, and the giant smashed Storn in the face with his club. As Storn was blinking the stars from his eyes, his left eye saw nothing but darkness as another club came in from that side. Then, both eyes saw darkness as Storn hit the floor. The giant with the yellow feather fetish tied around its neck stepped up tot he doorway, planted a foot on Storn's body, and launched an attack at Quill that barely missed the archer.

Chwaer finally finished chopping through the giant's leg, and the creature fell to the ground, bleeding out from the stump. The other giants fell to a hellish combination of frost bombs and electrified arrows. Taking a moment to breathe, you look around while Molly gets Storn back up to his feet. By the time she had healed and woken him, and he had gotten his wounds taken care of, Sander's embiggenment spell wore off, and he was back to his normal size.

Quill will check all the bunks and the tapestries, poking around with his bow.

Chwaer, Sander, and Quill, please make a Fort save!

As Quill and Chwaer began searching the room, they found much of the loot that they had not been finding on the giants themselves, stuffed into footlockers or shoved under the filthy mattresses. There was a lot of trash, but here was also a fair amount of coins and gems, and a few other pieces as well. One belt in particular seemed to radiate strong magical aura. Not strong as in the strength of the aura, but as in the effect. It was a belt of giant strength, fitting in this environment. They also found a large iron spike that seemed magical, a couple of potions, and a suit of armor.

While they were searching and Storn was recovering, Sander leaned up against one of the bunks to wait. He scratched at an itch on his forearm, then idly swatted at something crawling there. Looking down, he saw a flea about 3 times larger than the typical member of the species. He flicked it off his arm, but another quickly took its place. Looking over to the bunk, he saw it was teeming with the creatures, all of whom seemed intent on swarming him. Quill and Chwaer found similar swarms on the bunks they were searching, both team members quickly getting covered in the nuisances.

  • 43 gems (4320 gp)

I could take it too, I suppose -- I have a heavyload belt right now, but this would make me a little more useful if I do ever get into melee. Chwaer, do you have Dex to damage? If not, I'd say you should take it. If it is just the two skills, I'll claim it instead and you can have my heavyload belt.

The fleas were a nuisance, but not much more than that. All the trio had to do was get away from the infested bunks and spend a minute or so squishing fleas. The larger fleas were easy to hunt down and squash, but their bites left large welts that itched like mad. Still, it wasn't so bad that it wold affect their ability to scout and fight. With a few minutes of swapping equipment and squishing fleas, you were ready to move forward.

As the group strategizes, Storn zaps Chwaer once more as Quill hands him a new wand full of the good juice.

    CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

    And twice.

    CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

He flips the wand in his steel hand before holstering it. "Open the door, look in. If it's something we need to kill, throw a bomb. If not, we'll deal as necessary."

Push push. Just peek before bomb throwing.

Yes, that sounds like the plan.

The door opened a crack, just enough to look through. The curved outer wall of the spacious chamber is set with tall, arched windows blacked out with mud and dung. The patchwork of hides stretched across the floor is stitched together with gut and sinew to form a makeshift rug, but is heavily trampled and caked with mud. A steep stone staircase climbs through a darkened arch in the eastern wall next to a wide-mouthed stone well. Crude doors fashioned from raw planks bound with hammered iron bands hang in archways to the north and south.

The noise comes from a pacing ettin, bigger than any you have seen before. A long chain connects iron rings around the ettin's necks to a heavy bolt set in the wall by the stairs. The ettin is pacing back and forth through the room, which shows signs of long habitation.

”Does someone speak ettin? Or do two people need to speak to it at once to be understood. Not sure I understand how to talk to two heads at once,” Quill asks, but is equally willing just to start combat as well.

He’s not a diplomat and doesn’t speak giant.

"We fought one before," Sander says, closing the door so they can talk. "It tried to kill us, but ... well, we killed it. It spoke Giant, though didn't have much to say. We could try talking to this one too, I guess. I think it's probably not going to get us anywhere, but maybe if we offer to free it?"

Storn sighs as he realizes nobody in the group is a particularly great diplomat. "Every giant who sees me in this armour wants to kill me. Someone just go talk to him... them? Ettin pronouns confuse me. And see if the ettin is chained up for trying to kill the Storm King or for some other reason. Molly, you do it."

    Male HP 62, AC 19, Touch 14, FF 16, F9/R11/W5, CMD 19 Halfling alchemist 10

    Sander sighs. "Fine."

"Hello, Mr. Ettins," he calls through the cracked open door. "What are you doing?"

    Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4 Er, yeah, I'm not very charismatic when I've used my mutagen.

He realizes after the fact that he probably should have tried speaking in Giant to start...

To move things along, I'll also ask why he's chained up if he's responsive...

The shuffling in the other room stops as the ettin peers around, looking for the sound of the voice. Sander can see that the left head is half-blind, with an ugly scar running through the center of a hand-deep depression in its skull, going from forehead to cheekbone. Drool pours from the corner of the mouth on that head, and the right head squints to see the halfling peering around the door.

With a roar, the giant ran towards the door, so swift it took Sander completely by surprise. About fifteen feet away, the chain around the ettin's necks snapped taut, and the creature's feet flew out from under him as he was yanked backwards. The ground trembled as the massive bulk hit the stone tiles hard, and it was a moment before the ettin was able to crawl back to his feet.

Having seen enough, Quill’s bow cracks with green electricity.

    Let’s get it on.

If possible, Quill fires an arrow at the ettin.

    1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 10 + 2 = 19 to hit;

Quill's arrow signaled the end of any peaceful attempt to get past the ettin. The shot hit the enormous creature in the chest, sinking in deeply, but not appearing to bother the crazed creature.

Chwaer flew through the open door, sliding beneath the ettin and coming up beside it before the creature could even notice the bleeding wound under its right knee. As is looked around in rage, it caught Molly's eye. The witch tried to impose her will on the ettin, but the creature's mind was stronger than she had guessed. He shrugged off her attempt to bewitch him, then grabbed the pair of flails that had been hooked to his belt and began spinning them. The ends, which looked like actual anvils, spun through the air in a hum. One crashed down onto Storn, nearly breaking his collarbone. The other spun into Chwaer, who barely managed to slide under the heavy blow.

Sander dropped a lit bomb under the ettin's feet. As it hit, the fuse seemed to fall out of the bomb, nearly doubling in length. It was still lit, but it was gong to take a while for it to explode. 4 rounds
