I am assuming that Ysermo is in the mouth of the croc, leaving room for me to move forward. If now, let me know, and I will amend.
Senach moves forward, his mace gleaming in the rooms torchlight. He rushes to stand over Ysermo, and brings his mace down on the crocodile
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

GM Aest |

As the crocodile suffers its massive blow, the Kitsune looks at Orophin. "Yes! Very Good! What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three in the evening!?" As he speaks, he points, this time at Stonegrin, and smiles a disconcerting grin. One that seems to strike fear into the dwarf's very heart. In fact, Stonegrin finds himself frightened by the Kitsune's grin, and by whatever magic seems to be behind it. The crocodile passes out from the abuse it's taken, letting go of Ysermo's leg.
Stonegrin Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

"A man. Or in this enlightened day and age, maybe a woman, or an elf." replies the oracle.
"Tell me then fox as you like these games: We hurt without moving; we poison without touching; we bear the truth and the lies; we are not judged by our size. What are we?"
He lays another gentle hand on the injured Ysermo
CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Did you give Stonegrin a +1 to his save versus fear due to Chup's inspire courage?
Chup cracks his whip at the beast again, trying to give Senach a better target.
Aid another for Senach: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

GM Aest |

I didn't, Chup, but it wouldn't make a difference in this case.

Senach turns his focus now to fox before him. He moves forward, intent on subduing the creature.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

GM Aest |

Okay, 17 beats it. No, I did not consider that.

Ysmero stands back up and looks at the crocodile angrily. Still a little unsteady he takes a moment to recuperate before jumping back into the fray.
Move action to stand, fighting defensively, +2 to AC

Aldur runs to engage the fox, trying to move around him and avoid his grin as he provides Senach with a flanking opportunity. He skids to a stop, a dagger appearing in his hand, and attempts to pin the kitsune's tail to the floor.
Acrobatics, if I can't move around without provoking, using inspiration: 1d20 + 1 + 1d6 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (6) - 2 = 9
Dirty Trick, spending 2 inspiration: 1d20 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (19) + 10 + (1) = 30
If successful, apply the entangled condition.

GM Aest |

"OW!" Aldur's dagger stabs into the floor, right through the Kitsune's tail. He pulls on it, groaning as it comes free from the dagger, then sits down on the desk behind him. "Wait! I can think of the answer! I can! It's..." He pauses dramatically. "It's words! It has to be words!" As he throws up his hands it exultation, a pair of scroll scraps flutter into the air. He seems to pay no mind. "I’m tall when I’m young and I’m short when I’m old. What am I?"
Combat (can be) over. If not...
Round 3
Ysermo: Defend!
Aldur: Stick!
Chup: Whip!

"No, you're a candle!" The Kitsune grins back at Chup. "You have to tell me one now!"
Orophin finds the two scraps and scoops them up.

Aldur looks over the scroll fragments and smiles. "So close! You were hard to catch, I'll give you that. But now that it's done, you're caught."
I hope this is right. Frankly, I can't make heads or tails of the riddle, they've never been my strong suit. But a word puzzle or cipher, that's my wheelhouse, and the first letter of each scrap spells 'caught'.

![]() |

Maybe that's the order they must be read in to recapture the fox? Or perhaps is as simple as answering the final question: Who is the last to dine? In either case...
Ysmero stands next to the unconscious crocodile and glares at the rest of his companions.
"This guys pet almost had me for lunch and you're answering riddles? What do candles have to do with anything?" The anger is clear in his voice and his fists are balled up and ready to hit something, but to his credit he stays where he is and lets the others play their games.

GM Aest |

As Aldur speaks the magic word, Caught the Kitsune screams a scream of desperation and terror. Lunging to cling to the desk, he begins shivering and shaking in his quite-stylish boots. "No, I don't want to go back! Don't make me go back! Just one more riddle! Let me answer one more riddle!" The scroll fragments rip themselves out of Aldur's hand and fly into the air, magically stitching themselves together as voices in Sylvan recite incantations. Suddenly, both crocodile and Kitsune are lifted into the air and shoved into the scroll. A moment later, the two Gathlains fly past, slamming into the paper and disappearing as well, followed by a double-handful of foul-smelling dust, a tankard that falls to the ground, revealing a quite-drunk voidworm, and a very dead nixie.
As the chorus dies down, Madame Koi swims sedately into the room, using her tentacles as a sort of water in which to do so. She grins. "You rebuilt our front door! That boy is going to be in such trouble! I think grounded for an eternity should be a good start. Now, what was his name?" She looks around, puzzled, then fixates on Orophin. "Oh! I promised something, didn't I? What was it? Hmmmmmmm." Suddenly, she remembers as well and heads down the stairs and into the Archives again. A few minutes later, she emerges. "I did promise to take away the water, right? I would hate to have ruined your strange decorating scheme instead!"

Congratulations on completing The Overflow Archives. I'll try to have chronicles up tomorrow evening, and I'll see about a late registration for Game Day. If it's doable, I'll roll for boons then as well. Feel free to RP as you desire here.

Damn. I am sorry that I missed yesterday afternoon.. I would have had fun with the riddles!! I really appreciated this game. It was a lot of fun, and not just in a smash and grab way. You did very well, GM Aest, and I really look forward to seeing you around the boards.

I agree with everyone else, great job, lots of fun. Thanks for running!

Aldur collects the screaming book Caught was using to complete his unknown ritual.
Linguistics to decipher : 1d20 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 10 + (6) = 20
If that is The Darklands Precept, I'll deliver out to Zarta. Otherwise, deliver both it and the darkness emitting book, and hope for the best
Day Job (alchemy) : 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
