Summary Round 18

At the Killin’s Ground with Wulfrum, Varin & Lys:

Varin stares, stunned, at Rabus for a moment, before gripping the man by the shoulder. "Get behind the barricade, old man. Let us young pups get this. I'll come back and help after this is done." Varin grabs the Earthbreaker as he passes, making to follow after Wulfrum. As he passed Lys he lay a hand on her shoulder and squeezed softly. "Thanks. I might hhave... I wanted to make that guy suffer. Thanks for ending it." Picking up the pace, he dashes away, off towards the gate.

Seeing Varin show up behind him, Wulfrum picks up the pace running alongside the burning trees. The heat coming off them would bother some but growing up a Warpriest of Torag and spending many an hour near the kiln.

So did I, Varin, so did I..., thinks Elize, looking at the dying man. Loading the last bolt in the magazine, she takes a step out of the door, turning once to see Rabus' corpse and grips the stock of the crossbow harder. Savages... "I'm coming! Leave some for me!", she shouts back at Varin stampeding away, as she shoulders her crossbow and prepares to run.

Thick plumes of pea green smoke billow into the air here, where three hardy trees that flank the road have been set ablaze with green alchemical fire. The air reeks of sulfur and ashes.

At the Eastern Lookout Tower with Mohs, Arlan, Keltza, Nerak & Beltzer:

Arlan crushes the orc into the ground, smashing a meaty arm across the leader's throat. "What took you so long, Mohs? Got this one all tied up. And I swear there was a bird. Anyway, if you wanna bash him a few times I won't mind. Maybe...maybe once with your hammer...for Clavin?"
Kagak takes 6 nonlethal damage and is pinned and demoralized.

Mohs grips his weapon and steps up to the pinned orc and looks deeply into its eyes. The orc snarls and twists to avoid the coming blow. Without releasing his gaze, he raises his brother's hammer above his head and brings it down with a shout. "Aarrghhh!"
Kagak takes 4 +7 = 11 lethal damage and 6 nonlethal and is pinned and demoralized.

Beltzer doesn't hear any pleas for help from upstairs so continues to wait for any impending dangers. "So, nice day we're having?" Beltzer asks Nerak in jest.

Nerak remains where he is and awaits any new development. "Aw yes but I hear their is ash rain predicted." He shakes his head. "If we are not needed we should see about the others. Or finish here and regroup."

Kagak ineffectively struggles against the headlock.

You all run closer to the cliff that protects the town as well as a wall. The cliff is shear and tall, and I can't find out exactly how tall it is. Please don't fall off. Also, the shadows from the fires and Inner Quarter Beacon do not penetrate beyond the building where Wulfrum is. Beyond him is the full darkness of the new moon.
Perception Wulfrum DC 15: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

Wulfrum only:
Wulfrum hears gutteral voices of orcs threatening someone down the alleyway 15 feet on his left. The villains are speaking in rough Common, and though their exact words are hard to make out, the seething hatred in their voices is clear. At one point, he hears, “Move an inch and five of my best come to join us. They won’t be as friendly as we are.”
Sense Motive Wulfrum: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 and Wulfrum believes the voice.

At the Eastern Lookout Tower with Mohs, Arlan, Keltza, Nerak & Beltzer:
The previous blow sheared a length of skin from orc's face. Mohs raises his hammer. Again! and lets it fall.
Kagak takes 6 +11 = 17 lethal damage and 6 nonlethal. He is pinned, demoralized, and staggered.

"Are you still alive? You're pretty tough for a green skinned coward," Arlan asks as he chokes the drummer into unconsciousness.
Kagak takes 8 +17 = 25 lethal damage and 6 nonlethal. He is pinned, demoralized, and unconscious.

Summary Round 21

In the dark alley with Wulfrum, Varin & Lys:
Wulfrum stumbles back a few steps as the man who intimidated him steps forwards, he reaches out with what courage he can muster and casts light on Lys's crossbow as his hands can't seem to raise his warhammer to strike. The magical light enables Lys to see two half orcs right in front of her. The female wears studded leather and wields a warhammer. The male wears breastplate and carries a greataxe.
Wulfrum is shaken for Rounds 21 and 22

Varin makes his move, pushing his way between Wulfrum and Lys carefully, placing himself between them and danger, as best as he can. He stops, gripping his Earthbreaker with both hands, staring viciously at the Half-Orcs. "If you want my family, scum, you go through my cold dead body!" He grinned, kissing the back of his hand and pressing it to the symbol of Gorum on his chest. "Fhaigheann tú bás os mo!"

Ha! That went over my head!, Lys chuckles to herself seeing plaster and wood splinters falling on her. "The only one bullying Wulf is me, a*@~@~%!" she shouts at the man, taking a step back and releasing two bolts in his chest. The two bolts slam straight through the half-orc's armor, leaving trails of blood flowing on the ground. "The wall's over there, I suggest you jump off while you're still breathing!" she shouts at the two unlucky half-orcs.
Vorom takes 17 damage and is pissed.

Vorom grits his teeth in pain with the two crossbow bolts in his chest and giggles. He steps closer to Wulfrum but swings his greataxe at Varin. The executioner's blade cleaves through Varin's armor.
Vorom vs. Varin: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 1 = 26 hit
confirm threat: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 7 - 1 = 16 lucky
damage to Varin: 1d12 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 3 = 18

Urnsul smiles as Lys steps back. The female half-orc follows her but swings her warhammer against Varin.
Urnsul flanking vs. Varin: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 = 13 lucky

Then, a squad of orcs break away from their looting and flank Wulfrum. And just like that, the heroes are outnumbered.

At the Eastern Lookout Tower with Mohs, Arlan, Keltza, Nerak & Beltzer:
"What the hel is that?" Mohs lifts his head with a start, "Arlan, forget upstairs, that might be the signal for the next full assault. We've cleaned up the rear, now to get back to the front lines." He throws the bag over his shoulder and makes a careful move across the remnants of the orc spellcaster's enchantment to get back to ground level and the earth where he is much more comfortable. Promptly landing on his ass as his feet fly out from underneath him again. Thankfully Mohs manages not to tumble down the stairs this time, but his patience and dignity both take quite a beating.
nonlethal damage to Mohs: 1d6 ⇒ 4

"You go ahead, I just can't leave without knowing what's up there. Could be one of ours is in trouble, or one of those worms is hiding ready to sneak in past our defenses later. I can't take the chance. Don't worry, I'll catch up! Ah, ha, ha! You need some dancing lessons, Mohs!" Arlan retrieves his spear, and ascends the ladder. Popping his head through the trap door, Arlan finds the top of the Eastern Lookout Tower empty.

Nerak waits for at least one of his sturdier comrades to lead on and then follows.

Beltzer shrugs and then runs out the door to follow those heading north. Arlan and Mohs probably have upstairs covered.
Nerak, I double-moved you near Beltzer.

Lys sees the angry half-orc attempt to decapitate Varin and holds still for a moment, dodging quickly to the side, away from the orcish horde and shooting over Varin's shoulder at the axe-wielding maniac.

Attack, Sharp Shoot: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 10 - 2 = 28
Confirm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Damage: 2d10 + 4 ⇒ (4, 9) + 4 = 17

The first bolt nails the half-orc in the eye, staggering him backwards, and letting out a ferocious scream.

Grit: 1/2, or 2/2 if the bastard drops. If he doesn't, he's one bad mother.

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Just in time for Lys to lean down and shoot a bolt at the new cyclops, shooting him in the kneecap in between Varin's crotch. "Not going to say I told you so!", she shouts, her smirk fading as she turns to the side to see the warhammer swinging towards her.

"Guys, we're knee deep in green shit in here! No offense, Bel!" she spits out a bit of blood and hisses at the half-orc with a bloodthirsty grin, "You're not the only one with buddies, b@~$~!"

Should I try to keep it more PG? I'm fine with going for a bit tamer Lys, but it's the two characters she cares about the most in the melee and they're neck deep in green, so I'm going with that. Asking pre-emptively.

But his fear seems to be distracting him.

Wulfrum has Saving shield so the first attack on someone beside him, IE Varin currently will get a +2 to their AC each round. I believe I only get one immediate action if not, then add it as often as I get it.

As the Greataxe split his armor, and he felt the hot rush of blood down his side, Varin but back a scream, biting, literally, as blood began to run down from his lips, a product of a slightly mangled tongue. He began to swear in every language he knew, internally, refusing to make a noise. As the bolts slammed in to the source of his pain, he felt a grim satisfactio, only slightly muted by the arrival of the new band.

Trusting that Wulfrum had his back, and that Lys would continue to work her deadly wizardry with her crossbow, he focused his mind, taking a deep breath. He steeled himself against the feeling of jagged metal tearing at his wound, his Armour worrying at the ugly gash in his side, as he swung his hammer with all his might at the Orc directly in front of Wulfrum.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 103d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 2, 4) + 9 = 20

Blood pooling in his hand, from the wound in his side, causes his hammer to slip in his grip and slam on to the ground. He leaned his weight on it for a second, his head dropping to his chest as he took a shuddering breath.

"Lys, run get the others. We will hold these bastards here," He glanced back over his shoulder to meet her eyes, before grinning. "We'll save some for you!"

His hand tightened on the base of the hilt and he tore the weapon out of the ground, swinging it in to his other hand as he pushed himself to attack, throwing every ounce of himself in to the swing.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 243d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 6, 1) + 9 = 21

I've been mistakenly playing that way. I thought orc ferocity was the same as half-orc ferocity. It is not. Orcs like boars and wolverines continue to bleed and fight until dead dead. Cheers
