I agree with Brock. The most important thing is having a good time IRL. These are slow games so either way you wish to handle it is good for me.

I agree... though you might want to do hiatus - internet time at sea is extremely expensive. But if you're gonna pay for unlimited access or something, I'm in for once a day if you want to! :)

I'd say just post if you get a chance...but as stated above, enjoy the cruise first...who knows, we'd might be through by then...

I will be traveling from Saturday morning until Weds. night (driving up north to see the eclipse). I will try to check in at least once a day, but if I miss a post time, please feel free to bot me to keep the flow going. I don't want to hold up the game.

Quick question as I'm still working out some pathfinder rules and this is my first animal companion, and my search fu didn't give me the definitive answer I wanted.

In this case, my wolf goes before me so I cannot give it the order to attack until my turn, even though link is a free action. I would think in this case an animal would naturally stick to the Defend trick, as the dogs ain't attacked me yet.

So, is the best course of action to just delay to Brocks turn?

just an fyi, most animal companions and familiars act on their character's turn, not on their own, so they don't roll separate init usually. that's been my experience in pf, both pfs and non-pfs. ymmv of course.

Since this is my very first PFS character, would you mind explaining how the whole chronicle thing works vis a vi character advancement? Ive read the stuff online a few times abd my brain is just not grasping it in the detail I would like.

I also read something about retraining new characters until they hit level 2 and applying sheets to them?

There just seems to be detail out there that I am not locating in my searches.

Hey Brock:

Until you play a PFS character for the first time at level 2 (or higher, which can happen with GM credits), you can completely change your character (between scenarios only) as much as you'd like, changing class, race, feats, whatever. Once you play at lvl 2+ the first time, that's the character (for that character number--you can create multiple characters of course, each with format YOURPFS#-Char#)

To have anything out of the ordinary, in terms of race, class, feats, etc, you need to own the appropriate sourcebook, and it must be PFS legal.

Read the Roleplaying Guild Guide, and check out Additional Resources and Campaign Clarifications links for more complicated rules questions about how they work in PFS. PFS games are supposed to be Rules As Written (RAW), so no homebrew, 3rd party, etc. (Additional Resources is the main one to tell you what's PFS legal.) The Roleplaying Guild Guide is the one that really lays out the basics of all this.

Chronicles are basically your record of having played the adventure. It will list how much XP (experience), gold and Prestige you earned for the scenario. XP is straightforward: 3 XP gets you a level. Most scenarios grant 1XP, some modules grant 3XP (and you can choose to advance in SLOW track,basically half the XP, gold & prestige, but I wouldn't worry about that until you have lots of characters). Gold is what you can spend on your equipment. But there are limits to how much gold you can spend depending upon your Fame (which is the total amount of Prestige you've earned overall). Until you have 5 Fame, you cannot buy any one item worth more than 500gp, and it scales up from there (RGG has the table). (Except there are certain things that are "always available," which is basic equipment, most special materials, and +1 weapons and armor, a few other things). While earned Prestige points add up to your total Fame, they also can be spent for other stuff--e.g. having the Pathfinder Society Raise Dead and other spellcasting services. Most important of all, 2 prestige points can get you a piece of equipment worth up to 750gp--which means you can get a wand of a level 1 spell. Most character's first purchase once they have 2 prestige (standard award for a successful mission) is either a wand of Cure Light Wounds or Infernal Healing.

Starting Gold is set at 150gp. Starting HP is max for first level of your class (plus Con Mod, Toughness if you have it, and possibly Favored Class Bonus). The Roleplaying Guild Guide should fill you in (and it's a free pdf download.)

It is also possible that a GM may want to see them, particularly if you want to buy something. If you look at Abolt's profile (or any of my PFS characters) I link them in the profile.
