Do you like urban horror and mystery? I am looking for 2 players to join me in an adaptation of “The Midnight Mirror”.
The sleepy town of Karpad in shadow-haunted Nidal has long been overseen by the Boroi family, and until a few weeks ago, the citizens under Baron Stepan Boroi's rule have lived uneventful lives of relative peace. Recently, however, the outbreak of a virulent and fatal disease and a number of mysterious disappearances have left the people of Karpad paranoid and fearful. Even Baron Stepan has been acting strangely, and now the tenuous balance of racial tensions between Karpad's human and fetchling populations stands on the verge of collapsing into total anarchy. Can the PCs uncover the root of Karpad's problems and put an end to the deadly virus, the terrifying disappearances, and the miasma of fear and distrust that threatens to overwhelm the region?
Ideally, I’m looking for 2 individuals who can commit to posting daily during the weekly and sometimes on the weekend. For folks who might have obligations, please let me know in advance and I can bot you as necessary. My games are story and roleplay driven with a lesser focus on combat; meaning combat is theatre of mind. Only if I HAVE TO will I use a map so MinMaximus the Mighty will not have their chance to shine! The current party is comprised of a Fetchling Oracle of Gorum (melee) and an Archaelogoist Bard / Ranger (support). Please choose something that compliments their classes in regards to the game information below.
Game Information
Stats: 4d6, Drop Lowest or 20point Buy ( 07 lowest stat )
HP: Full at 1st, ½ hd +1 for every level after 1st.
Classes and Archetypes: CRB, APG, UC, UM, AC, (No Gunslinger, Summoner, Psionics, Non Paizo)
3rd Party Products: Only on a case-by-case basis will I allow this in the game
Races: Core + Fetchling. Others on a case-by-case basis
Starting Cash: Level 4 suggested Gold
Starting Level: 4th
Alignment: No Evil
Skills: Unchained skills are used!
So basically, skills are broken into 2 lists - Adventuring Skills (stuff that your character has learned in their journey) and Background skills (stuff that your character is passionate about).
From what I understand, aside from the skills you get normally for your class, you're also given +2 background skill points per level that must be spent on the background skills list. It represents what talents and stuff your character knows. This is kinda neat because it frees up your other points if you want to spend it on skills like perception and spell craft.
Adventuring Skills: Acrobatics, Bluff, Climb, Diplomacy, Disable Device, Disguise, Escape Artist, Fly, Heal, Intimidate, Knowledge ~ (arcana), (dungeoneering), (local), (nature), (planes), (religion), Perception, Ride, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, Stealth, Survival, Swim, Use Magic Device
Background Skills: Appraise, Artistry, Craft, Handle Animal, Knowledge ~ (engineering), (geography), (history), (nobility), Linguistics, Lore, Perform, Profession, Sleight of Hand
Deadline: Wednesday, August 10th

I am inclined to adapt this character as which I am posting right now and write an additional part to the character story to explain how she got there.
Chaotic good female elf rogue, going for shadow dancer. She works independent but is close to the clergy of Desna. Note that the "Shade" is not actually part of the name, I just had to pick it because Lluvia (Spanish for "rain") was already taken.
She is a city character, the story mostly takes place in Absalom. She has a bit of a film noir feel about her (well, at least she's supposed to).
Is it permitted to roll first and then decide to use point buy, or do we have to stick with what we roll if we do roll?
EDIT: More complementary to the party might be Devana Ravendawn, (true neutral female human (Chelaxian) Wizard (Evoker)), a wizard who previously worked at the "Infernal Acadamy of Magic" in Egorian but ultimately decided to break her chains. I may have to edit her dislikes though... she dislikes all deities that stand for warfare, regardless of alignment, including not only Asmodeus and Iomedae, but also Gorum. Which may come in bad in this group. I'd seriously prefer to play Lluvia, anyway.

I would love to try and join. I am torn between finally getting to try out a rouge for the great skill selection and the wonderful dealing with traps. A wizard if you would like an arcane caster. Or a Paladin would be a good fit. I have always wanted to get to try and play a Paladin. If there is a preference then I could pick any of them.
The rouge I think would a local.Mechanically I would take him down the ranged style of combat. He would be a butcher. I would like to have his family fall ill, maybe even kill one of them. Fun angst! And by afflicting his family he would be very invested in figuring out what is happening.
The Wizard would be from here but would have left years ago to peruse her desire to become a mage and leave this little town in the past. The reason she returns is that she heard about what was going on in her hometown. Even though she never wanted to come back to this little town you can never truly leave home.
The Paladin would have melee abilities but because of the code that would never be the first option. He would have heard about the problems and come to help. Life is a beautiful and precious thing and this taint on the canvas of life needs to be removed.
So that I have shown it this is the code the Paladin would have to follow.
• I see beauty in others. As a rough stone hides a diamond, a drab face may hide the heart of a saint.
• I am peaceful. I come first with a rose rather than a weapon, and act to prevent conflict before it blossoms. I never strike first, unless it is the only way to protect the innocent.
• I accept surrender if my opponent can be redeemed—and I never assume that they cannot be. All things that live love beauty, and I will show beauty’s answer to them.
• I live my life as art. I will choose an art and perfect it. When I have mastered it, I will choose another. The works I leave behind make life richer for those who follow.
• I will never destroy a work of art, nor allow one to come to harm, unless greater art arises from its loss. I will only sacrifice art if doing so allows me to save a life, for untold beauty can arise from an awakened soul.
• I lead by example, not with my blade. Where my blade passes, a life is cut short, and the world’s potential for beauty is lessened.
I can go with any of these options so which ever one you feel is best suited for your game and group.
For a bit about me. I have played in a few PbP games and I love the way it allows from character growth and roleplay. I can definitely post at least once a day if not more than once per day. I am in the US but I work nights so my hours are a little odd for my location. Saturdays are usually my free day so I am able to post more. While Sundays are my live game so I do not always post.

Well, I added a brief background scene to connect to the adventure:
Lluvia had the distinct feeling that there had been something wrong with the last few sips of mead and noticed how her mouth got more and more loose. The little story she had about the Countess of Trisengart during a ball in Absalom and her opinion on human nobility had resulted in lots laughter, but she better shouldn't be talking about Absalom.
"So, do you know where you're headed next?" she asked the cleric of Desna next to her, Tonarr, a nice guy with whom she had been traveling the past few days.
"To the border. To Nidal. I have a feeling I am needed there." he responded, with some most inappropriate enthusiasm.
"Tonarr!" the elf maiden called out, but continued a lot more quiet. "You just can't go there, they'll kill you if they find you. I just don't... look you and I both know that you only want to enjoy freedom and help people along the way. But in Nidal, my own connections to Desna's faithful would be enough to get me killed on spot if anyone found out. As an overt cleric..."
"Yes, and that is...", he burped, "exactly the reason why I'm a go there. The trick is not to get caught."
"That is one hell of a gamble, even for a follower of the Lady Luck."
"There is more to it... I heard... about a strange disease. Something's out of place there, more than usual. Dunno whether I can stop it, but I must at least know what's going on. And we cannot really rely on our enemies to deal with it, they might as well be behind it." He raised his voice again: "The claws of darkness are reaching out for the people and I shall go to ..."
"Shhhhh! Stop it! You stay here, I'll go and check on it. I know how to not raise attention and how to not be seen. Heaven I hope there is some money involved, I do like helping you guys out but I can't work for free indefinitely."
A sly grin ran across Tonarr's face: "That's what I wanted to hear. Works every time."
"You..." she stood up with add anything to the sentence she started, handed him off to a blood young red head who had been eying for the entire night and went to dance. She needed a clear head and dancing always helped.

Lets at least see how the stats go :-)
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5, 4) = 13
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6, 4) = 15
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 2) = 13
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 4) = 9
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 1) = 15
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 5) = 11
12,13,11,8,14,10 9 pt build. Wow, even for me that is close to a record :-).
I hope that even after rolling I can still use a 20 pt buy? Because I admit that I'm enough of a power gamer to not want to play that array :-(
Deaths Adorable Apprentice
I will try to rolling
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 4, 6) = 21
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 1) = 8
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 3) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4, 1) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 4) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 4) = 16
So that is a 17, 7, 14, 16, 14, 15. Which is actually pretty good. I will be going with the Rouge. So I can do traps, stealth, some socal stuff, and damage. Most likely going to be going with a ranged option and only getting into melee if he has too.
Would the unchained rouge be an option?
And that 7 concerns me. I could bump it up to a 9 but I was wondering since there is a illness that is moving though the town and his family was taken ill could he be ill as well?

Yes, your character can totally be ill which would make some interesting roleplay. Unchained rogue is fine. If you're unsatisfied with your stats, why don't you just do a point buy then?
As for everyone else, how is everyone doing with their character concepts? I have to apologize - I had been in the hospital last week for surgery and couldn't respond in a timely fashion.
Deaths Adorable Apprentice
Delightful. I am glad you are ok. I thought the there was nothing happening. I will get to work on him. I am not unsatisfied with the 7 and the other rolls were great. I get to have him be ill so I am completely ok with the 7 now. I have an Oracle I started off with a 4 in her wisdom due to a bad roll and I have had a blast with her.
Which stat should I tank since he is going to be ill?
Not sure if I should still go with rouge. I usually have horrid luck when I shoot for a class someone else is going for. I think I would like to go for a Paladin. He used to travel and do the adventuring thing but when his wife became pregnant they decided to settle down. He is defiantly going to be struggling with his faith with the death of his spouse and child. I think I will go with the Divine Hunter archetype. The god is going to be Erastil. And he will be a definite ranged character.
I assume whatever the illness is would be out of his abilities to fix himself, much less his family. Which will lend itself rather well to the struggles with his faith. Would something like that work?
FratManCy
Okay, sorry for the delay folks. I'm happy to say that I'm out of the hospital and I'm ready to get back into the swing of things.
@Death's Adorable Apprentice: 1. The illness that is passing around the town is
Tallowthroat
Type disease, ingested or touch; Save Fortitude DC 14
Onset 1d3 days; Frequency 1/day
Effect 1d3 Cha damage and –4 penalty on saving throws to
resist mind-affecting effects in areas of bright illumination
(does not stack). A creature dies if this Charisma damage
equals or exceeds its actual Charisma score, releasing
1d3 shadows as its swollen neck explodes (Pathfinder RPG
Bestiary 245); Cure 2 consecutive saves.
The design is only nascent to Karpad (the barony where this adventure takes place). I'm all for the role play but if you seriously want to consider having this affliction, let me know.
2. Yes, two traits.
@Lluvia Shade: You're welcome to play Lluvia.

Grand. I was thinking of a Sorcerer / X of some ilk. I'll see what I can gin up that makes me smile and isn't a cheez-fest. ;)
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 6) - 1 = 11
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 2) - 2 = 14
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 6) - 1 = 13
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 5, 6, 3) - 3 = 14
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 6, 6, 1) - 1 = 15
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 6) - 2 = 14
Quite respectable!

This is sr with a Sorc/Monk for your consideration. I'll clean up his character sheet tomorrow and fill out his personality a bit more... but you have the bones of the build right there. If you've got any questions, fire them at me. I think he is pretty much cheeze-free, which is how I tend to roll in any case.
A few of his spells are highlighted and linked (for your convenience). It occurred to me that they probably aren't on your list of acceptable materials. I often gin up characters in HeroLab and I have a stack of additional content which is included by default. Let me know which spells should be replaced.

Your character looks fine with the exception of the following spell - web bolt. I understand that the sorcerer is limited in their magical abilities but I'm not sure how/why your character learned what is typically a drow spell.
Hawkren Hargraves.
Hmmm... apparently Snowball is from People of the North, is that acceptable or should I look for a spell from the pre-approved sources list?
Hawkren Hargraves.
I'll go with web bolt... it is fun to write up creepy descriptions of how it manifests. :)
I'll tweak that bit now. I've updated Hawk's character sheet to be more legible and I tightened up his personality description. I'm pretty much done. Just let me know if I make the team.
Thanks much for your consideration.

I have that 7 and I am a little torn on where I would like to put it without tanking some of the paladins abilities. Constitution seems like a reasonable option. The depression from the loss of his family would keep him from eating or keeping up with his health. Strength could also be a good one for the same reasons.
