SETUP
Councilman Wade Dovac of Junkyard has been engaged in a long-term effort to establish links between Junkyard and the other major population centers of the Wasted West. While taking comfort in receiving word of civilization's survival across the former United States, much of what Dovac has heard has been concerning: monsters, raiders, warlords, slavers, and all manner of evil are widespread, and even from his well-informed vantage point, Dovac is uncertain of which side is winning.
In particular, reports from Corvallis, Oregon, have weighed heavily on his mind since he first received them. It seems that the formerly peaceful city of Portland has been taken over by a racist warmonger named Suki Alvarez, who has styled herself the Shogun of Portland. The last report Dovac received from Corvallis stated that the Shogunate had expanded southward, and there had already been several skirmishes. Since then, no word has gotten through. Though it could be nothing more than the difficulties of passing messages in the wasteland, Dovac suspects the worst.
With so much else going on in the West, Dovac has had difficulty getting the other power players in Junkyard to listen to his concerns. Oregon is too far, and the threat too minor, to waste any of the city's limited resources on what could be nothing more than an insignificant border skirmish. Following some lengthy and creative political wrangling, Dovac has managed to secure funding and permission to send a small group to Oregon to scout out the situation.
But Dovac's ambitions go beyond scouting. Rather than settling for mere information-gathering, he dispatches a small group of heroes (or maybe just loyal mercenaries) to establish a foothold for Junkyard in southwestern Oregon. In the short term, he hopes to create a check against the expansionist Shogunate, but in the long term he dreams of creating a new center for civilization in the great northwest, one with loyalty to Junkyard.
Ambition or hubris? Time will tell. For now, Dovac has found several likely candidates -- people known to have served Junkyard well in the past, and whom he feels can be counted on to do the job -- and has sent them westward. The outcome is in their hands now . . .
CHARACTER INFO
The field is wide open. The requirements, as implied above, are only that the character be on friendly terms with Junkyard in some way, and be willing to make the journey to Oregon for an indefinite (but likely long) period of time. To be clear, the campaign premise is one of building up a power base in SW Oregon in whatever way the posse sees fit. I will try to have a variety of locations, threats, and loot caches all over the place for you guys to discover and interact with. The campaign is going to be very player-directed, so you need to be eager and willing to get out into the world and explore, kill, conquer, build, or all of the above.
In addition, I will try to tailor individual motives for each character based on character type -- e.g. a Doomsayer will have a specific goal to pursue in Oregon, while a syker will have a reason of her own. If you have any suggestions or desires for your own character, just let me know.
