Kae meets up with Grishnak, privately and subtly, unlike previous meetings where Kae strolled into Grishnak's camp. Instead Kae sends a messenger.

When he sees Grishnak, he says "Sorry for all the cloak-and-dagger business, but thanks to a tip, we hit the Osiron shipment, and i doubt they'd be too pleased about it. I'd really rather them not have a target to try to retaliate against. too much collateral, it'd get messy. Anyway, thank you for that."

Concerning future policy
"It looks like we're going to be adopting Licensing for selling various substances, alcohol, among other things. It's not all decided and not going to be implemented immediately, but I wanted to give you warning. Without proper licenses, dealing those wares will be a crime, so I'm thinking, I can get you those licenses, quiet like, and you're free to legally sell what you want. The counsel shall be somewhat selective as to who gets these, folks such as De'ville who'd only deal to a very small cliental. So the rest have you or illegal dealers, and if you report that competition to the law, we shut down those rival operations."
Giving Grish information that would be useful and the promise of aid to sweeten things with him

Requesting Aid
"We're moving south to deal with the Osiron, try to cripple their organization, so any information you have about how they've reacted since our return, if they know what really happened to their goods, would make it easier for us to deal with them. And getting rid of that cult is good for the both us, is it not?"

1.

Grishnak grunts at the statement – passing over some hard grain alcohol.

”Huh – maybe… but maybe they should have a target, eh? They be blaming someone soon, eh? Why not give ‘em a target? You got enemies, eh? Well – why not let the word slip one of your enemies did the job. Then let the Osirion folk try to figure out if that be true – if it be false, it’ll throw ‘em off the scent a while – and, if ye’re lucky – they may be going after them that did you harm. Come on, boss – you tell me that in all your time you got none that you have no issue with? Could be good times…”

2.

Oh yeah – Grishnak appreciates it a lot – he knows the score. In fact – as part payment – he’s decided to let you keep all the profits instead of taking HIS cut – which you promised… it’s all yours. He’s got big plans on that what he’s going to do with that information.

3.

”Hell lad, ye only been gone for five days, and you just got back today! I’m no magician – but I can keep my eyes open for you. Give me some time – and, maybe a little latitude? I mean to say – you’re worried about the Osirion’s cult, eh? And the law here’s got their hand’s tied, eh? Well, uh – maybe we could stir things a bit? Take the gloves off, if you know what I mean? Hell – we got our ways – you give me a little room to maneuver – I’ll show those whore-sons what to do – it’s like my lad Higgombothom tells me, ye know – the old gnomish saying? Business is war. Now, there ain’t truer words then that, eh? Come on – give me some room to maneuver – when you get back, they’ll be hurting bad, trust me on that

Kae – on that last point? It sounds right on – only problem is – Grishnak may make more of a mess then you like. Of course – it’s up to you what you tell him. So, you know… it’s up to you…

Male Half-Elf Invulnerable Rager 2/Crossblooded Envenomed+Draconic Sorcerer 1/ Trapper Ranger 1/Rage-Vivisectionist 2/Dragon Disciple 1

1) "Good point."

3) "I don't want things getting messy while we're away. Information is valuable, but now isn't the time for a fight. If there is any violence,a citizen should summon one of the patrols, and let them handle the situation, but citizens are within their rights to defend themselves. Again, while we're away, I really don't want a war between you and the Osirons. It would be problematic if we came back to a big mess. Once we get back with more information, and hopefully goods, these southerners will be dealt with."

Grishnak rolls his eyes at the idea of "summoning the authorities" - but, agrees to your requests.

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Kae, over on Ry's Province page, Delain is asking about militia details. Can Kae jump in with those as Ariarh would not know the specifics. Thanks. :)

"Well then, barbarian - when shall we hunt?" comes the questions from the crowd.

Ka'etil's make a great smile. "Indeed we shall! I am General of Saravale, and Master of the Hunt. Those of you who wish to join in, come with me." He beckons on the direction of the one that called out to him.

As he takes a step out of the center of attention he speaks loudly. "There are many of us here, and not an excess of supplies, so to provide best for all our people we best band together and take to the wood, and a solid plan shall ensure the greatest results. Dior can fly overhead, alerting us to the location of game, while those suited to stealthy travel through the woods flanks our prey, archers engage and scatter them, driving those they do not bring down into the hands of the flankers." he says in reference to herds of Elk and the like.

"So who has the skill to track and hunt best and wishes to join?"

The others are impressed with your suggestion - but without something more direct - I can't go from there.

In other words - I'd be happy to see if you could invite someone directly. What race, gender - and (possibly) - class... just let me know.

Male Half-Elf Invulnerable Rager 2/Crossblooded Envenomed+Draconic Sorcerer 1/ Trapper Ranger 1/Rage-Vivisectionist 2/Dragon Disciple 1

Ka'etil watches for those that seem to stand out among the party, those that seem to take interest in his speech, and watch as he steps to the sidelines.

He wades into the crowds looking for potential huntsman, he speaks to the different groups.
Ape Kae approaches both the chimp and gorilla, knowing by their physical body-types that they have different talents, but his request does apply to both groups. strong and fast!
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Ka'etil first approaches the familiar faces of Grod, Djod, and Khang. "Hello there. How are your people fairing after the lady Isan's healing? I am sorry there is so much unnerving magic here, but healing is always nice. I need to ask your aid in the hunt. Your people are strong and fast, and in the jungles and our forests, I know you to be without peer. There are many here to feed, but with the aid of you and your people."
Kae's eye is drawn to a particularly powerful looking Gorilla-man, "You, what name do you go by? You can take down and Elk and carry it back on your own, without breaking a sweat, I'll bet! I've seen some f what your people can do in a fight, show me what you've really got!" Kae is pleasant, but shows strength, playing of the Ape's seeing how he tore their captors apart and ignored the wounds that he had been dealt. He is established as a strong individual and is acknowledging their strength saying he wants them to come for that reason.

Gold Kobold
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
This is a totally new group to Ka'etil, so he approaches with some caution, observing their manner of speech and behavior. Seeing that they are a more reserved bunch of creatures, he says to one that seemed to pay him the most note, either because of leadership or interest, "Greetings, I have yet to meet you and your kind. Allow me to formally introduce myself. I am General Ka'etil, Master of the Hunt. I wish to become more well acquainted with your people. I am glad to welcome you to our lands." He says with a polite bow.

"I wish to ensure that your people are properly provided for by the spoils of this hunt and would like to get to know you and yours better, are there any among your number that you could direct me to with skill in the wood, or that would wish to accompany us?" Kae asks of the Kobold that he approaches. They should notice that for a "Barbarian" he speaks with an unexpected formality, as he was taught common by those who only know a very formal sort of speech. ([ooc]English was a Second language and he learned it from elven scholors and never quite lost his manner fo speech. seriously this guy dont' even use contractions most of the time!)...

Yuan-ti
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Kae approaches first the Cobra-heads. "Having been on the receiving end of your species' abilites, I know that your skills would be a great advantage on the hunt, and your presence would ensure that we bring in some food to your liking." They may, through being so in touch with the Ka of a creature notice about Ka'etil that there is something about him that is akin their kind. Perhaps a subtle sway in his gait that none notice anymore, but there is something about him that is distinctly snakelike. In face his bloodline grants him arcane boons due to his powerful serpentine heritage envenomed bloodline.

Adding to his address the other less serpentine, Kae entreats "Do any among your number possess tracking skill, or a talent with bow or blade that would join me? Stealth in tracking our prey and the skill to make a quick kill will make a great difference."

Silvers
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
When Kae approaches this group, he first speaks to his comapnions, particularly addressing Sylvath and Ryul. "How are you my friends? I am sorry it took so long to release you, but i am glad to see you all again! Ryul, would you join me in the hunt, or do you have other duties you must attend to?"

To the rest "I know you are tired, but I would have at least a few among you join in the hunt, help provide for your people. And I would be lying if I did not want to see you in action, as General, it is my business to protect my people, and gauge the abilities of those with martial prowess among them. And what better way to get to know someone that out in the wood, with a blade or bow in hand, testing each other's metal." inviting them to show him what they are capable of and get to know the leader of the armed forces in the positive context of a hunt.

hope i said the right things to get at least a few form every race. start bonding in a manly way. MANLY!!! (even if females come. that'd make it even more manly!)

Kae’s Questions:

Regarding questions to Khang and Grod and Dhoj.

”Hah! You wish to test us, eh? You wish to watch our strength in hunt? We can show your paces little man-cub!” one of the Gorilla types says.

Khang turns a cold look on the Gorilla – who shuts up somewhat sourly, than he points at one of the younger Chimps.

”Tohk – show him what speed is!” Khang grunts. The chimp, who was in the process of trying to court another female – roars out and slams his fists against the ground quickly. Then – he turns around – looking to the plains – and charges forward.

His movement is fast – damn fast – Kae you can see that as he rushes forward at full speed, he is literally leaping high and far forward and into the air, propelling himself with great effects. You vaguely recall something like that during your fight by the volcano – but now you have a chance to study the action.

To simplify – in short order you see he is doing a full run – however – you’re quite certain he seems to be using “Acrobatics” as a “swift action” during the run – and; it should be noted, that though his level of experience as hunter, fighter – or what have you – may be relatively low – you believe he can leap forward with great effect – very far, and very fast… Much more then a creature of his experience should be able to leap…Naturally – he leaves you in the dust – and, when he comes down from a leap – his hands are open, as if he is able to collapse on an animal and rend it apart with only his claws.

Meanwhile –

The Gorilla’s response to you…

”I am Kaht – son of Rhoj! You seek to see my strength, eh? EH!” he growls – and you see that he is snorting, and grunting – you recognize this tremor – you sense he is beginning to “rage” – even as a barbarian might. His arms slam the dirt hard – and his fists punch against his chest heavily – he suddenly grabs up an errant sword you saw laying on the ground nearby – and quickly takes it in his heavy paws. It is at this point you notice two things of note…

1. The blade – though not well made – is certainly sharp enough to cut flesh – his seems to be rather tough – tough enough that his hide alone seems to be some sort of buffer, reducing the damage he may be suffering.

2. Knowing something of raging – you believe this toughness has nothing to do with his own rage, or even his barbaric tendencies – but it could be a naturally occurring effect from the simple thickness of his hide. While you’re at it – the strength of the blade? For a creature to do what he did to it – even if he was raging… That would take someone whose strength was great enough that – at least during the rage… well; you have a hunch that during a rage – a light load for him would probably be around 300+ pounds!

And he too is young – and looks very inexperienced…

Even still – though the Gorilla has little desire to travel with you – preferring rather the females and food – the Chimp will come – and show you the meaning of speed!

Gold Kobold

One of them sees you, and bows to you – and you notice somewhat lower then you bowed… FYI – that was a good thing you got the natural 20… they are not as “chummy” as the other kobolds…

”Greetings, Ka’etil-sama – I am Tadao-san – of the Soichi line. I am no hunter – and, indeed – my folk are not versed in the hunt – preferring rather more enlightened pursuits. Yet, even so – my lord Satoru-sama – if he would permit me – I shall journey with you so that I may learn of your folk better. Though I am not inclined to hunt – it may be better if you had one versed in the arts of healing near your side in the darkness.”

”Have the poets not said -

”Life – an illusion;
Each day a dream we fashion
In death – we awake!

"Indeed! Yet, for myself – I do not mind dreaming another day, nor night. I shall come with you – but I have little to offer but lore on the healing of wounds – as my powers are weakened in the darkness before the dawn – and I have not time to commit myself to refreshing my wa – as you know doubt know – for you were instrumental in saving us. Still – if you would have me, I shall accept – with humility – your offer!” he adds with another bow.

Yuan-ti

If you may recall – the Cobra heads seem a bit sleepy now – the full meal and long day have left them somewhat dull-witted. They observe you – but they are not overly eager to follow you, despite your roll. However – the others may be of a different ken…

The Purebloods –

One of them approaches you – more interested in the Cobra types – you sense that they’re less concerned with any of your kind – and only the stiff/rigid application of logic. Even so, the one who approaches you comes to you and looks you over – staring in your eyes…

”Greetingsss… friend. I am called Kemat,” says one – a lithe and youngish looking pureblood – female – her thin tongue flicking gently over her lips as she eyes you coolly.

”I do not know what you seek – but I suspect you are not being honest. This strikes me as curious – as we are completely powerless and within your command. For – should you wish it – you may speak and have the others fall on us, and slay us outright – if it would even amuse you. Therefore – you have little need of subterfuge with us…” she says, as if speaking to herself, trying to figure you out.

”As you could kill us – and therefore have absolute power over our lives – you need not ask – but command – for what are we, if not your puppets, to be taken and used – as you may see fit?” she adds, the last with a quirked lip, as she traces an errant finger over your chest, he tongue sliding again over her lips, as if testing the air for something…

”Still – I believe you do not need food overly much – and seek this chance to find our skills – to test us – to value our worth – and, if it becomes you – to us as you would please… But; of a certainty – that seems quite illogical. We are yours in any case – for even if we had not sworn ourselves to the Serpent queen that has allied with you – you have slain our comrades and proven dominion – you are, therefore – of greater power – you possess the true strength. How – therefore – can we do other then your command? And, if that command be to seek our talents – it is a small thing to demonstrate them – yet, with many regrets – we are not as subtle – nor versed in stealth as others may be… Rather; our talents deal with the higher functions of the mind – the thoughts, the wiles – the very layers of thinking that transcend the very being of the will – those are the areas where our strengths truly lay – show me your enemies – and I shall entreat them to drink a river of blood – show me those who seek to do you harm – and I would have them bite flesh – show me those that would disturb you – and I shall persuade them utterly of the foolishness of a such cause… In this; I cannot offer stealth – but – as some may say – I make offers that simply cannot be refused…”

She has circled you slowly, speaking in a low and dull – almost hypnotic voice – almost monotonous – even so – you sense no threat – clearly she is merely showing you her talents. When she returns to face you – and looks up at your eyes, she smiles.

”After all, my liberator – what matter of creature are we – if we cannot… reason with one and another, hmmm?” she adds.

Uh – yeah – she’ll come with you, too – however – you got a strong sense that she won’t be much use in the wild or during a hunt… well – I guess that depends on what prey she is seeking. Even so – if you’d liker her to come – let me know.

Silvers

Ooh – bad luck here – the roll; not good, and worse – you approached your friends first. Ironically – there seems to be a bit of tension between the older kobolds, and the newly found ones. Ryul and Glaidus will definitely come – and Adjt (the Magus) is worn out – he will seek to rest. Sylvath would come – but feels it best to be near Anuk-su, and suggests there are some personal issues there – though isn’t particular. You’re free to ask Ryul and Glaidus what the other silvers aren’t interested in coming now – you have a sense not only your low roll – but some of them may have come – but something changed their mind…

Male commoner 1

gotta read it, but i'll send out responses tonight. I've got dinner right now and a couple projects to get done first.

to Ryul and Gladius
"Why is it that the other Kobold are now reluctant to address me? What is the nature of the tension between you? Is there some sort of difference in culture that renders my friendship with you distasteful to them?"

Ryul has some strong tracking skill, yes?
How cold is the other Kobold's cold shoulder? Does it look at all possible for kae to approach them directly and make nice, or will that have to wait till after the hunt?

to Tohk when the Chimp agrees to join.
Kae grins, saying "That was truly impressive. I am glad to have you join in, even the swiftest prey will be easily overtaken. It will be good to have you. with us." he extends an arm to Tohk to shake in a warm gesture.

As they walk, Kae asks "What other skills do you have, keen senses, is it particularly easy to move through trees?"
"How do you prefer to fight? I have known those who use certain weapons, or others that trip or grapple in a brawl. I for one rely on my own power to augment my physical ability. How about you?" Kae asks enquiring as to the Chimp's preferred roll in the hunt, and skill-set.

With the Golds
Ka'etil takes a deeper bow, guessing that it is customary, and hpoing he's got the honorifics correct, Thank you Tadao-san. Hopefully we will not need healing, but if something should happen, or in the wood you see any possible herbal supplies that could be of value your presence would be most valued. I would also like to get to know a littel about your people and culture. I have yet to meet any with your particular manner of speech before and want to ensure I follow your manners to avoid any taking offense due to my ignorance."

"From where did your people come before you ended up in our lands? I have traveled this locality somewhat extensively, and am unfamiliar with your accent."

To Kemat
Ka'etil is somewhat wary, feeling a hint of her hypnotic ability, and having overheard some of Ariarh's conversation with Anaitis regarding her behavior toward Brett.

"You think me more duplicitous than I am. I do wish to know more of your people's abilities and talents, I admit. I am General of these lands, and as such it behooves me to aware of the abilities of all those who could lend their strength to the protection of our lands. And at the moment we have a rather long journey ahead of us, and a rather large company but may be lacking in provisions. We have the chance to rest and prepare, and it would betray a profound lack of foresight were i not to take full advantage of this time."

"I would also be a fool not to get t know the people whom I am tasked with protecting. I trust your loyalty to the Wyrmling, and while it is within the power of my position to give commands, and expect them to be obeyed, I would rather ask, and have what I want be freely given. Hence I ask who would join me in the hunt, and bring only those who wish to come."

"I would appreciate the chance to get better acquainted with you. Your people express beliefs that I am unfamiliar with. While religion and such esoterica has had little use to me personally, there is a very real power in a people's beliefs and there are certainly many with very strong beliefs. I need to be prepared for what I shall be dealing with upon our return to the city. So please do accompany and educate me as to your ways."

Kae seems to have set up a more philosophical endeavor than he had initially set out to, but he is interested in cultural exchange and finds himself more comfortable in the wilds and wood in which he was reared. So he asks the silvers he knows as the rest don't seem to want to talk to him, and the Chimp who is willing to come, and they will likely be the most help hunting. Then the Gold healer, and the Yuan-ti, Kae wnats to talk to to figure out a bit about what he'll be dealing with, having these groups living in his city with folk like Goodwyfe, Grishnak, Deville, etc...

HP: 47 AC: 14 Hexblade 5

Having freed the captives and such Clari notes that Malas'rae has gone mingling among the others. Clari takes some time to herself, privately conversing with Keravel in her mind.

It's all in her head:

<You seem to have calmed down> she thinks to her blade.

<In the heat of battle, decisions must be made, and you were not strong enough to make any> the blade chides her, excusing it's attempt to take control of her and drive her to attack the fiends that surrounded them.

<Fine. But that Arasmes fellow, you have seen him. Aside from that bazaar creature Caliphana and the elemental spirits, all of the beings that he calls upon are celestial creatures from the upper planes. There must be something good within him if they answer his call.>

<Clearly. Yet a demoness that can charm with that one's prowess is at his beck and call, it seems. And what of her interest in the Mad Beast?>

Clari sits blushing slightly, hand on the hilt of her sword. Shaking ehr head she takes up ehr default foul grimace.
It's still in her head:

<Quiet you. This isn't about that. These people seem to be cut from a darker cloth, yet do not deal in shades of grey but white. At least that is how they act.>

<you've made your decision Clari. You accept these people. You trust the Mad Beast's oath of vengeance against his vile father, you trust the judgement of that girl who has been chosen as Baroness, you think a Fiend-spawn is Good, and share affection with Half-breeds Selendria's children. You foolish foolish girl, yet here I remain for you, ever at your side, trustworthy and loyal, tol guide you as well as you will let me.>

Suddenly, Keravel asks <What does HE want>

Malas'rae approaches Clari and asks "Will yo get a bow and join the hunt?" IT sounds like a statement, but reads as though the question is really asking, "Are we going to have a problem?"

<He's noticed that i've been looking at him differently ever since I saw him turn into that monster! Why does he want me with him?[/]> she asks Keravel in her mind, starring at the towering half-breed.

<[i]Well, you are SOOO convinced of his decency, and believe those naive friends of a matter of months that he has made, so go ahead, and accept. Perhaps he'll take you back into his arms?> a biting sarcastic voice spits into her head.

Turning to the hilt of her blade she glares, thinking <That's not fair! don't you go->

"Well?" interrupts the General's voice, cutting short her debate.

"Yes, fine. I'll get a bow." she says and turns away to find a weapon. <Well, someone should keep an eye on him, just in case. even YOU can't argue with that>

Her jibe at the hex-blade is met with silence.

Answers from Ryul, Gladius –

”The sad fact is – well… yes; they don’t really like us too much,” Ryul says a bit sadly.

”Aye – that’s true enough. We counted on finding long-lost kin folk; friends, family – that sort of thing. I guess that well… maybe we came on with a bit more pressure? Imagine you just met your 700 year old great-great-great-grandfather – and he’s not too happy that you don’t live up to the family name? Sure – Sir Sylvath doesn’t say things like that outright – it’s not his way… But, you can tell – he was expecting a nation of royal warriors and mystical soldiers, teachers – princes and lords; instead we get… well – for lack of a better term – they’re pretty rough sorts. No discipline – no sense of duty – they’ve had it hard, that’s for sure – we don’t blame them, not even Sylvath – not really – but, you know… we were just so hopeful that we’d be included into our own culture – we feel like even more of outcasts… And I think they feel it, too. They seem to think that we’re kind of stuck-up – and I guess maybe that comes off that way – but, you know – we don’t mean to be – we try – but in the end? I don’t know… they’re nervous, they’re afraid – you know the reputation that koblds have in general? They’re pretty close to that lot, as they see it – in terms of how the world judges them… They don’t know their heritage that well – their culture. Even the golden kobolds are more like us then them – and that just makes them seem all the more outsiders…”

Kae – Ryul is at least a level 3 ranger – at this time he has leveled – and may be better then you know… But yes; he can track.

How cold is the other Kobold's cold shoulder? Does it look at all possible for kae to approach them directly and make nice, or will that have to wait till after the hunt?

The golden kobolds are – to say the least – have a somewhat superior and xenophobic bent to other species. They have spent a great deal of time with powerful racs – and feel rather self-important – especially after witnessing the more “base” actions of the silver ones. Kae – it may be possible to ally with both – but you’ll have to figure out the best angle to approach them. I leave that in your hands…

Tohk’s response…

Tohk slams his fist against his chest – letting out a loud thump. He seems happy you’re happy – but eager to keep up the game of constant “one-upping” you; but you gather this is a good thing – he’s being tribal. In human years you’d think Tohk would be roughly 16 years – he’s clearly young, got a lot to prove – a big chip on his shoulder – and thinks he’s a little better then he is.

”Huh! You see me jump man-cub? I move through trees like hawk through clouds – I am Tohk! The leaves tremble before me… and, so do other things… because, I am strong!” he adds, his self-praise coming out somewhat jumbled as he tries to speak – and does not do such an impressive job on using “higher language”.

”How do I fight? I use my strength – my body – I can rend flesh, or hew it with bone or wood – but – you have secret of bright iron – if you let me – I can kill with that, too… But not as good, not yet – still; I learn!”

”Bah – you have too many big words – enough talk! You wish to hunt? Then let us do so – Tohk will show you the power of his body in the field – what is the game, man-cub? Show me – and I shall bring you blood!” he says with a proud grunt – even as you suspect most of this may be inflated bravado – after seeing the chest thumping – you have a strong sense that these beasts have a tendency to inflate or exaggerate their talents to demonstrate dominance.

”Ah – then it would best if we did not discuss it fully; I think – Ma’elrae-sama. I am no lord, nor officer of rank – it would be… disrespectful to speak on these matters before my own lords do. Even so – I can use a blade; though perhaps not with your cunning. I have also learned the secret of riding in the lands of Tian Xi – for horses were plentiful – and our people prospered… Give me a mount, and I shall ride with you,” he adds, returning the bow.

Yeah – this guy really actually wants to be friends; but he won’t extend his friendship beyond protocol. Once he gets the straight word from his boss – things will be different. But he is eager to come along for the ride…

From Kemat

”Excssellent… General,” Kemat says in a very “business-like” manner.

”Though much time could have been spared if you came to that point directly. You wish us to hunt? I should say – this is not our forte – we are subdivided amongst our own now into various selections – you see the guardians of our temples and churches here – the warriors. You see a few kneeling folk – scholars and mystics – and that one is a priest – he seeks the truth from his god – who is not our god any more – yet, being a god, and a divine creature of great power – he feels it illogical to disrespect such power so abruptly – even though he will no longer obey that power formally. Even so – courtesy is best, especially with immortal beings of tremendous power.”

”Now – as for food and provisions? Surely you cannot believe that hunting at night is the best course? Clearly the weather is cloudy – therefore – as there is no moon, and the stars covered – it would be very hard to track prey. Also – other then nocturnal prey – I feel it likely that there would be little game to hunt – and no nocturnal prey would feed such a large group easily. No – it is not a logical course,” she says with a sad sigh.

”The best choice – as I see it – is to take the most competent hunters – with the horses – and have them advance forward as a scouting expedition that also hunts. Further – it would seem best to give them eyes from above, while the rest of your party, though they be powerful – if they are not good at hunting our scouting – should stay on foot with the main group to provide succor and social comfort.”

”While we advance as scouts and hunters – we can kill game on the plains – and have our flying guides direct the party on foot to the fallen game – this will be faster, and easier – and it will allow all that wish to hunt with skill to – at the least – have a good night’s rest – refresh what energy they need – and so help you better.”

”But hunting at night – though an amusing diversion – is likely to fail at the desired effect – namely; getting game easily for such a large company of individuals,” she adds.

”Still – your folk is – by virtue of the true testimony of leadership – overlord to us. For, if you wished it – you could kill us with ease. Even so – that would be of no value at this time – except to demonstrate your power further to the others. And that is already done – no – you will not kill us, for that is impractical,” she adds, her tongue flicking over her lips again, testing something.

”You wish to know us? There are multiple ways one could do this – by virtue of our skill is best… Surely, though – you do not judge the weight of a being on their ability to bring down game? If so – that would be a very dry dish indeed for you to sup from…” she adds, her eyes looking up at you from under long, dark locks.

”Even so – give me a blade – or, if you would prefer – let me use my full range of talents – and I shall show you all I can do, if you wish – but know that I am not the greatest of my party… Even so – where my true strength lies – I shall assuredly not disappoint you, my master…” she adds the last, her tongue sliding again over her lips – her finger sliding down your chest –and her eyes looking very penitent.

Regarding the silver koblds – here’s your tip for social RPing getting a pal with one – for now – Sylvath’s crew is like King Arthur and his knights – and the other silver kobolds are most like the British backup singers to “Fergie” – crude, rough, and definitely London street slang – they’re the type who may go to a pub, have a pint – and go down to the docks and watch a cockfight and toss a few quid on the ponies… The two groups are – understandably – very uncomfortable around each other. You’ve got “old English” accents (think Shakespeare for Sylvath) – and you pretty much know the rest… that alone is hard – but, it is also your clue on how to get one to come with you. Meanwhile – the golden kobolds are a hell of a lot more patient with Sylvath’s folk – then “Grymm’s mates” – as it were, for obvious reason; as the golden Kobolds are a combination of Samurai and Egyptian “royal divinity”. So – yeah – you got your work cut out for you…

So timeline, we have gone over at 2pm, broke in, freed everyone, gathered the refugees, performed some mass-healing, and then Kae started gathering folks for the hunt. So what time would that be? I'd assume it took a couple hours to gather everyone, an hour or so of finagling and preparation, so i'm guessing it's around 5, 5:30

Ryul
"I am sorry my friend. Hopefully with time, the gap may be bridged, but it shall likely take time. For now, let us hunt. I know it is late, but I would like to see what we can find, bring in a few fresh kills. You have all been through a harrowing ordeal, and as things stand, i suspect that little can be done tonight to come to terms with such profound differences tonight. We do have a journey ahead of us."

Tohk
Ka'etil gives Tohk a slap on the back, and says "All right. I shall fine a tracker that I know and we will get to it."

Tadao-san
"Of course. I would not ask you to divulge anything beyond what propriety dictates. I would be honored to have your company."

Ka'etil will give a deep bow and gather the rest of the company while Tadao prepares to ride, and will fetch a horse of the kobold as well as the others.

Kemat
I agree with your suggestion of having advance scouts being hunters to take advantage of any game we may come across You are right that a night hunt will likely not feed the whole company, but if we can add some fresh meat to our stores it will be an improvement, while we do have food enough for several days."

Kae runs his fingers across her cheek, and hand down her shoulder where it rests a moment as he says "I enjoy a night hunt, and am comfortable in such a party. Even if hunting is not your particular skill, I would like to see what you can do. Perhaps we shall see about what other talents you may possess eventually." His hand slids down her arm and he steps back as he tells her, "And there is no need to call me your master".

Your guess would be incorrect. As I mentioned before - the "Diplomacy" checks via Gather Information should have (formally) taken many hours to complete.

As such - your Diplomacy Checks were massively hastened to hurry the story. Even so - it is nearly 2:00 AM, not 5:30 PM.

You finished the fight at roughly noon.

You ferried the folk across the lake - roughly 5 miles - and you had to make multiple trips.

You set up camp near evening - roughly 5:30 - 6:00. Then you moved from group to group asking questions.

The roles you made via Diplomacy told me how long that process took - and now - the hour is late - hence the comment earlier.

Kemat's reptilian eyes widen somewhat at your touch - and her tongues tastes the air intently again, seeking something perhaps...

"Of course - I shall call you what you wish me to - and I am pleased to be in your company - but, as I say - the hour is late... Perhaps you would be better suited to enjoy other nocturnal pursuits? I do not think you will catch many things in the darkness..."

Again - it is roughly 2:00 AM - you can go hunting at this time - she can see in the dark - as can the golden kobolds - but you have not refreshed your rage powers - or other powers - nor has anyone else - still; she will go with you.

FYI - Tohk will go now too - but he's actually the only that is eager to hunt at night - less for practical reasons, you think.

No worries - any chance of making those general knowledge rolls about the elf lingo, or no?

Meanwhile - there is a several day journey home - plenty of time to wait until tomorrow and daylight...

This recalls to my mind - Kemat will offer to sleep with you tonight - if you would prefer - if so; let me know your character's intentions; either yes, or no, doesn't matter as much as how you phrase your answer here...

looks like Kae won't be sleeping with kemet...
...tonight.

Should i continue posting stuff about The Hunt on this board? Cause in the morning, Kae plans on talking to the new-silvers, then getting Tohk, Tadao, Kemat and some warrior Yuan-ti as well as Ryul and Gladius, to come out and hunt/scout.

Are there enough horses for everyone that we've gotten, or will they need to be traveling at walking speed toward Saravale? Cause if that is the case, could the hunting party mounted on horses actually explore the hexes they pass through to map them while the rest are walking along toward Saravale?

There is enough horses for the hunting party - though you doubt much if Ariarh will give you her horse to borrow - and Brett's pony is sturdy - but you somehow doubt it could keep up.

For now - toss up diplomacy checks with each group - and we can go from there...

For getting a group rounded up? Cause if so, I'll toss up a new request for the new silvers and Yuan-ti.

How fast is the chimp? Can he use a horse? You seem to have indicated that he really wouldn't need one, and seems like he may be too heavy to ride... not sure

Which is the knowledge type for the check about the elven lingo you were talking about.

Diplomacy for rounding up group

Chimp's move speed is 30 - but he can "jump" as part of a swift action - which allows him to move faster, even at a full run, then many others, but depends on his acrobatics check... He can ride, the apes know how to ride - but they are not able to do so with any skill (i.e. - any humanoid can ride with a basic Dex Check - but if it gets tricky - that's another thing - as of now, they don't have ranks in it).

Try a "Linguistics" check... In this case - even if you don't have ranks in it (though you should) - it's just a raw Int. Check. Or, you can always try Know. Local...

WIth the new silver kobold Kae will have talked with Ry about the Silvers to figure out the best way to approach them.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
In the morning, Ka'etil approaches the new silver Kobold directly, seeking out Grymm. Falling back on draconic, as his common is rather more formal due to how he was taught it as a second language, he tries work his way out of the hole he dug last night. There may be a slight elven influence in his pronunciation, but it is still a more colloquial version of the language.
Draconic/ "Grymm, yeah? I'm Ka'etil, general for our people. I came to talk to you about going on a hunt. Wanting scout out the area ahead of us, make sure it's safe for everybody traveling, and while we're at it kill ourselves enough game to make sure nobody starves." he says to the leader.

"There some that're quick with a blade or good shots with your people that'll come with, or trackers with a keen eye? Be best if we got a few more folk out there, safety in numbers, right? And good for bringing down a few more beasts if we can track down a heard."

Linguistics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
to glean some information having to do with kae's slightly elven influenced version of Casual Draconic with the new Silvers.

Yuan-Ti
diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Kae approaches Kemat, so that she can bring him to those among her people who are warriors or hunters. "I apologize for my shortness yesterday evening, but my fellow councilwoman wished my presence, and I was rather uncertain of the matter at hand. I would appreciate it if you would introduce me to those who ate warriors, and perhaps hunters among your people."

Knowing the Yuan-ti respect authority and assertion of it, Ka'etil stands tall and rather than making requests and entreating them to join him, he places weight on his authority, as that is what this group seems to respond to. "I am gathering a party of hunters and warriors to scout the area where we will be traveling. Who among you are the most apt hunters and killers, as well as sharpest scouts? I would speak with you."

To those that heed Kae's call, who have the skills he named or think themselves an asset to the party, he asks, "How are you called, and what abilities to you possess that would benefit the hunt?"

Depending on who shows up, Kae'll have more to ay to them, to pick the ones to come on the hunt.

Ape-men
diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Kae approaches and moves toward those he knows "Tohk, we are going for the hunt now. The others were tired and now that we are fresh and ready and the light is here, we shall ride out and hunt."

"Are there others that would come, bring back the biggest kill?" he puts out to the group, not holding out much hope, but if any take the challenge, it means another body or two.

Kae will approach the Golds last, but i think i want to know what others come along in order to figure out the best sell to get more. But he does want to bring Tadao-san along of course.

He'll also ask along Gladius and Ryul, but after he's got the rest of the party set up, cause he knows Ryul's a good tracker, and Gladius may be the Old silver best suited to work at bridging the cultural gap between the them and the New Silvers. but i want to see what happens with the other silvers and yuan ti to make my final decision.

Your Draconic is even better then Grymm's - he seems to speak a hodge-podge of strange accented Common, but he accepts your offer - you suspect it is more to get away from the others, rather then because he's excited about the prospect of hunting.

You recognize "Aquatic Elf" accents - you'd bet good money that he's spent time on the ocean or the sea at some point...

Grymm's answers will largely depend on who else come - check the below listing - let me know - and I'll get back to you with Grymm's recommendation next posting...

Yuan-ti

You're given the best options here - specifically - killers. They don't really have "hunters", though. Warriors, yes - and you'd also gamble on assassins... But on the field hunters? Not at all - slaves grow food for them. That's beyond they're training - for now Kemat will travel with you - she doesn't mind at all. As for the warriors? They're trained with melee weapons, some know poisons, garrote, stiletto - that sort of thing; very few are good on the field. So that's kind of up to you what type you're looking for. Also - the rest of the people really seem to distrust, and dislike the Yuan-ti; if you bring them along, chances are you'll scare off others, so it's kind of a toss-up for you...

Ape-men

Oh it's all good - they'll all come, if you want - they don't care a damn about hunting though - it's a matter of principle - you've basically given them a "game" - a sport to do on the road. They'll do it, if you'll have them - but - if you do - it will be rough... They Gorilla move at 20 move speed, and they don't leap like the chimps - they can ride, though - but... they are not very dexterous - without training on the horses - they may slow you down from the faster speeds...

But it's up to you how many you take - they're eager to go.

Of the golds?

Well - for now - they'll allow Taedo-san to go - but pretty much just him. He's really the only one they'll put up with leaving at this time... So - yeah... just saying - he can ride well, and he can handle a bow, but is better with a sword. He's hunted before - even done some falconry in the past - but he's young, and fairly inexperienced. So it's pretty much your call...

FYI - you have no weapons/armor for any of your new friends - just something to consider here, unless you're handing out gear...

Male Half-Elf Invulnerable Rager 2/Crossblooded Envenomed+Draconic Sorcerer 1/ Trapper Ranger 1/Rage-Vivisectionist 2/Dragon Disciple 1

Can i get a count of the horses that we've got, and a list of the weapons there were to loot from the island so i know a bit about the amounts of weapons that we've got access to?

If we didn't bring any mundane gear from the island, then there should at least be what the guards had in the ruins where we freed the refugees. so there should be a few weapons there that i can pass out.

SInce the Yuan-ti are not really field hunters, I'll have to pass on them, but will take special note of those that came forward to work with once we get to Saravale to figure out how to integrate them into our military organization.

No Yuan-ti, so lets see what Grymm has to say about his boys, and who's available.

I'll take some chimp depending on the number of horses I have access to, so there is the full contingent of Gorilla for defense and foraging with the main group.

So far aside from the new Silver Kobold, the party is Taedo-san (or is it Tadao-san, i'm confused) Kae, Clari, Tohk, Ryul, Galdeus. Kemat can come too, but not the rest of the Yuan-ti.

SO how much resources would that leave us to bring new silvers? there are some that would come, they seemed like they could be cool with Gladius, yeah?

All that can be dealt with - here's the facts.

1. Your nation is doomed to fail in 1 month if they don't have backup. There is no other way around it.

2. Your nation can get back-up if they have assistance from the baronies.

3. You have 2 Baronies now - Oleg's and Ry's.

Kae did not build one yet - and Brett picks his land last!

I need to know where you want your baron - read over the rules I emailed you - pick a hex on the map - give yourself 6 surrounding free areas.

FYI - a hex that is on the open plains can be built on instantly!

Stat out your Council - level 1 characters, standard 25 point buy - no, your Cohort is not a Council Member in your Barony - and Yes, you'll need a Deputy Mayor to get things going when you're not there.

But at the least - pick a hex on the map I sent you - so Brett can pick his by the time I get back from work - please :)

And of course - you start your barony (once the land is cleared) - with 1 house.

Thank you!

Council stuff will go to the discussion thread as they develop. While i'm figuring mechanical stuff, i'd like to continue the social, if that's alright. that way i can get to know these folks better I need you to make the discussion thread.

1: Hunting party consists of Taedo-san, Tohk, Ryul and Gladius. Clari, and Kemat may also join. What is Grymm and the new silver's response to coming on the hunt?

2: How many horses are available?

3: What sort of weapons did the guys at the ruins that we killed to free the prisoners have? what loot did we get from the guys on the volcano island?

summary, i need Grymm's Boys' responses before i can continue this thread, and i want ot use it to pick council-members. I'm going off-grid till late tonight at 1pm Pacific time, which is 2 hours from now, BTW

Grymm’s responses.

Grymm is grudgingly suspicious of the group you’re taking – he doesn’t like the silver guys too much – but he doesn’t mind Glaidus and Ryul – he doesn’t have a problem so much with Taedo – as the lad has also done sailing – apparently that speaks well on him, thinks Grymm. He’s fifty-fifty on the Apemen – but has done enough work in the underdark – at least with Goblinoid creatures that he knows how to handle himself in a fight.

He won’t go himself – he’s got to keep an eye on his crew – but for a mission like this – he’ll recommend Rhett – Rhett’s got a good head on his shoulders, learned hand to hand fighting in a dwarven village; and later he picked up a little bounty-hunting work – tracking prisoners that had sacked and assaulted hill dwarf settlements.

Rhett can speak dwarven, goblin, common, and a few words in elf – though he’s not skilled in the language. He’s second level – not too powerful, but got a good head on his shoulders. In human years he’d be about 17 – grew up mostly in Hill Dwarf terrain; that is – he’s done caves, and dwarven towns, but also did a lot of work around the hills and exits from the caves near low-lying forests and such. He’s okay at riding, can handle a bow, but prefers gritty – in your face brawling and melee weapons. But he’s pretty calm.

The other one he’ll offer is Jaxx – a rather attractive silver kobold who is generally pretty friendly – but spent her younger life as a version of a pick-pocket in the same dwarven town to make a little money. She grew out of it though – and decided to do bounty hunt work as well – knows more about the city life then Rhett – and is actually a little more vicious in a fight – her preference being knives. She’s also level two – and in human years roughly 16 – FYI – she’s kind of sweet on Glaidus – though she tries not to let on. She can speak Elven, Dwarven, Common, Goblin and knows some words in Orc and Draconic.

You have the horses you brought south with you – if I’m not mistaken – that was 12 horses – including ones for each of you to ride, and some pack horses. I know one of them was Brett’s pony, and I also know that the other is at least Ry’s mount – neither of them are going to give over the horses. That leaves you with about 10 mounts; but Shae, Isani, Galen, and Ras need to be persuaded to give up their horses. If they don’t – you only have 6 total, and that includes the two that belong to you and Clari.

Regarding gear

None of you bothered to take any goods and gear at all and whatsoever – which is kind of depressing.

I will add that you could have (theoretically) snatched a few masterwork longswords from the dead warriors you encountered on the island. They also had masterwork studded leather – if that helps. You can have 6 suits of each, and six swords.

That’s pretty lean on gear – but next time you need to tell me you’re searching bodies and locations. Considering you didn’t search – that seems pretty generous to me. That said – what is your move?

Ry came south with two horses -- Tal and the one carrying food etc. She won't allow anyone else to ride Tal but Kae can have use of her spare horse, if that helps.

Shweet! Yay Ry - we've missed you - glad you're back! :)

isani: Posting from phone, but kae asks if he can borrow isani's horse? We'll take extra good care of her animal. Promise.

Can Kemat use her powers on animals? If a rider dismounts, can she use her abilities to keep the riderless horses calm?

Kae has a bunch of weapons, so he can offer them to his party. We left the weapons in the island, but what about the ones we faught when we released the prisoners, they were all somehow armed there.

Kae has a Str+3 composite longbow, so do rhett or taedo have the 16 str to use the bow?

Kae can also lend his lance, and glaive and greatsword. I suspect that tohk would be best suited to the hammer, if nobody wants it. I dunno if we have any daggers save the bronze one...

Not really - she doesn't study or have much with the practice of animals. Her powers work specifically and best only if the creature can understand her language... At most she is good at Handle Animal - but nothing to write home about.

Rhett does not have a 16 - kobolds are generally more dexterous then strong - and Silver kobolds, as you may recall from the end of book 1 - gain a bonus to Dex, and a penalty to Strength.

Golden Kobolds also gain the bonus to Dex - but they don't gain bonus to strength - and Taedo is not very strong. He relies on precision fighting -rather then brute strength.

I just need to figure out my council now.

I should note that your town had some "ruins" there as well. Ruins allow you to build things at "half price" - your town has:

1. A shrine to the deity Iomede.
2. A watchtower
3. A pier.

All of these can be rebuilt - now or later - at half price.

Good luck!

Kae gathers his hunting party, Clari, Taedo-san, Tohk, Kemat, Rhett, Jaxx, Ryul, Gladius, and himself. That is a total of 9. Kae gives studded leathers and longswords to Taedo, Kemat, Rhett, Jaxx, Tohk and Ryul. He also offers the Brestplate and a lance to Gladius, re-equiping his own wooden armor. With everyone equipped and mounted, they set off in advance of the party.

"My friends, I am glad that you are all able to join me. Let us go and track what we can. There are many following behind us, and we have a long road ahead to the capital, so it is our responsibility and task to ensure all of our people have enough food." before they ride, he pauses a moment, recalling one potentially important thing. "We may run across a pack of Dire-wolves as we travel. We encountered them as we traveled south, and Councilwoman Ariarh forged a peace with them, so if we encounter them give them a wide berth and do not threaten them."

as they set out
Ka'etil quietly mentions to Ryul "I have some affinity with beasts, but it is not a particular talent of mine, so you may be needed in the wolves are less than friendly."

Ryul is tasked with tracking.
Kae aids with Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Ryul will attempt to track -

1d20 + 10 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 10 + 3 = 31

Tohk will help as well -

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

In due time you are able to discover a scent of some wild elk - they are on the northern side of the river - and after about an hour's ride - you see a wide heard of them meandering over the plains.

You can quickly count about 20 bucks - and perhaps twice that in female and young...

Ryul will inform the party that killing bucks is fine - but to kill the females - who breed the herd - or the young - who are not fully grown, and have little meat in any case - is foolish.

So the party goes after the bucks.

In due time - you are able to bring down three large bucks - each about 300 lbs at least...

More details on the hunt; and your companions - will be posted soon...

The strategy for the hunt:
Ryul tracks prey.
When he finds something, Tohk rides out around the prey so he can attack from behind.
the rest fan our around the prey, the new silvers split up to flank too, getting past them.Kae and clari split up as well using bows from the sides. When Kae and Claei shoot, Gladius charges, and the silvers close to make sure the prey doesn't escape.
Tohk does what Tohk does so well. Jump off his horse, and chase it down, blocking its retreat.

The Kobolds
While Ryul takes point, Kae hangs back a bit from him and speaks with Rhett and Jaxx. He struggles to break out of his formal speech, and in doing so uses lapses into Elvish and occasionally a word in draconic... He does manage to avoid any sylvan at least "So you aren't particularly close with Sylvath and his company. I follow you on that one. When I first met him, the way Sylvath talked down to me really set me off.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
"I came from a pretty rough spot myself, Just my mother raised me. I was a pretty wild brat. Just ask Clari over there. That said, I never had a chance with my clan, they hated me before i was even old enough to make trouble. When I left, I had nothing. Had to make my own way. Was no good at anything really clever, but I was tough so I used that to make a living as a mercenary, until my magic awakened... Ka'etil pauses there for a moment, then takes a breath to compose himself, smiling "But now? Look at me, commander of a city's forces, respected. Glad I took up this charter and ended up here where I did. It's a good place here." Kae came across poorly with these guys, so he's trying to build credibility so these guys know that he came from a rough place too, and is someone they can identify with.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
He also asks about their history, "You speak a bit of elf, even though you grew up in a dwarf town. When I left home dwarves always gave me a pretty cold shoulder untill they found out that I wasn't the stuck-up elf they assumed I was. How did you two get to know the language?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
"I know there's a lot of differences between you and the others, but is there any common ground? Ryul and Gladius are out here on the hunt with you. I alway found that out in the field things are a lot easier, simpler. While we're out here, think we can let it be that, comrades on a hunt? Make friends and play nice? We'll have a good hunt." Kae encourages these silvers, hoping that they find some common ground. He wants to try to help integrate the old kobold with the new, and this group may have a good sort of shot. That said Kae also wants to get to know these two, so he's really not being pushy about this. he's making nice himself.
Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 to be subtle with Jaxx about having a chance to chat with Gladius without someone like Sylvath around making things awkward or whatever Sending a covert message is DC 15 for a simple one, it's like an innuendo check. Kae's not trying to hide anything but rather communicate that she's got a shot to "make nice" with Gladius but isn't going to say it out-loud cause she doesn't want it out.

Sense motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 to catch their reactions and adjust his tone and such to make sure he doesn't make any missteps.

I'll toss up stuff for the Golds, and Kemat, after I hear from you again. also, sleepy...

Jaxx looks as if she might say something about your comment about Sylvath – but Rhett cuts her off with a wave of his hand.

”Oye – we don’t like folks that be trying to use us, savvy? We don’t trust the top man as it be like he trying to twist us to an end, right? But he be kinfolk closer then yer ass – so be careful how ye talk on him, eh chief?” he says with a wary tone, yet still amiable.

”We done moved about a piece – our top man be Grymm – him and our folks did work out west – near’n closer to Varisia – if’n ye heard o’ it? It be west a piece – like I done said. Anyhow – our chief done be moving from turf to turf; did some sailing work, did some knife work out o’ Korvosa a piece – then he done took our folks east a while; trying to get out o’ trouble, as were…”

”We done pushed east to about Lake Encarthan – did a mite good work on the waves, that be closer to when me and my sis be done born, reckon. We tacked course to eastern side o’ water, did work closer to Razmirren a piece, close to Kyonnin – humped the coast up and down – did more work closer to Ustalav – then done heard news o’ lands here – so we pushed east again – Grymm done said we needed be getting home – said his sis – my aunt as were – she done got the second sight as sailing folk call it – she got a telling that we be needing homeward bound – so we trecked a piece, then got pinched by dune runners, and I reckon ye know the rest,” he adds with a non-committal shrug.

Common ground –

”Well – we be kinfolk – and our kind be not large in numbers; Bess – she be Grymm’s sister, the one with the sight as were – she done say it be right and true to find our kinfolk and be bound to ‘em – as it be pleasing the gods. But she done got chopped by the dune-runners south o’ here when they took her north – so Grymm be pretty sodding pissed on things. He done say it be a bunch o’ troll dung that we come – reckon he bitter on it, as were – and the sight o’ proof otherwise – as in, well – it done be simple, hey? See – if the other lads be kin to us, and it be that they be here on a purpose – then it be clear that Bess be right, and we be here o’ a reason – and even her dying be part o’ the plan – as were – if the gods set it. But – if the other lads don’t need being here – and it all be a bloody mistake – then Grymm can be saying “It all be false that things fell out like this – and we best pack up and move off.””

”See – it all be clear – if the fate thing be true, then it be meant that Grymm’s sis Bess died on a purpose – if it be false, then it be bad luck and we move on. But Grymm don’t want it to just be bad luck – he wants things to be moved on – right and true, as were – because he don’t like how things be falling out, see? He wants to hold on to his mad ways, as were – and that be right hard to do, if instead he be told to just hang to it, and be done. But what else be his option but that, hey? Eh – what can be said on it – hard knowing…” he adds with a shrug.

”Anyhow – Jaxx be good enough – I think she wants that bruiser with a the tough edge fer bedding, eh?” he adds with a wink.

”You shut up, Rhett!” Jaxx interrupts hotly.

”Ye be telling stranger lads more then best – let him talk a spell before ye give him more news – that be the clever way – or did ye forget it when we ran them blades out to Sarky’s folk that time? Ye got to be smart, not just tough, ye fool!” she adds with a huff.

Kae – you sense that Jaxx is a bit more clever, and at least more cautious – maybe – but you also figure her real motivation is that her brother just embarrassed her. Also – the language here is – naturally – so relaxed and easy to follow that you have no need for further explanations – even so; if you’d like any – please let me know…

Kae pauses with a sigh as Rhett takes offense to his comments about Sylvath. "I meant no offense and am not speaking ill of Sir Sylvath. I consider him both comrade and friend. I merely point out that we began our relationship on rocky ground and we took some offense to each other, which has fallen by the way-side." They don't know that Kae and sylvath work together in some capacity as protecters of the reams, nor that Kae respects Sylvath.

"I don't know much about Destiny, myself, but I have felt it's hand guiding me here. And in Saravale, your people will find a welcoming home. That is the whole point of the place, but I won't go speaking on purpose and point of tragedy. Seems disrespectful for someone who never knew her to go preaching about Bess like that." Kae would not like it if someone went and talked about his tragedy leading to a greater purpose unless they were some kind of Oracle or something.

That night, Kae will use his augry to ask his ancestors if there is a plan for these silvers and if they are following it, confirming that Bess dies for a reason

to Jaxx, Kae says in broken Common/Elven "Well, Gladius can take care of his-self and his own business, so i got no reason to say nothin to him so no worries there, from me." giving her a conspiratorial sort of look before putting on a bewildered face feigning ignorance of her intent, making light of the situation in a way that mitigates her embarrassment.

Rhett looks you up and down for a moment, his eyes flicking out over the plains, watching Tohk tear into the flank of an elk lustily; not to eat, but to “confirm the kill” – and he grins at the display.

”Look – we all be kinfolk, aye – well and good… but Grymm – he be the bossman, and he always say “Kin be kin – but if ye don’t eat, ye be hungry” – and the truth is, we could be using grub,” he adds, stooping over a fallen elk, sliding his claw into the belly, up into the ribs, and tearing it open with practiced ease.

You suddenly guess that he’s seen action in the field, at the least…

He reaches into the suddenly opened torso, and reaches around a bit, tearing out the heart, and takes a tender bite from it. He chomps eagerly on it, and offers to Jaxx, who takes a bite, then wipes her mouth with the back of her hand, then offers it back to Rhett. Rhett turns to you and offers you the heart to eat, if you’ll have it.

If you do – it tastes somewhat rich, but it is very dense and somewhat tough – not bad – but certainly not tender – though very juicy.

”What Rhett means is that we don’t eat free – that be the way be raised. We work fer our meat, savvy? Ye be a square chief o’ yer folk – ye want a hand in yer work – we’ll offer it fair, if the wage be right and true, eh?” Jaxx adds.

”Aye indeed – ye want our help, ye know where to find us – we fer work our meat. Yer coin be fair – we do the job right and true… We just need to ask Grymm if he don’t mind lending us out fer knife work – or whatever ye need us fer – he be fair on things like that, providing we be true with him from begin with, eh?” she adds, glancing up at you.

In other words – they’ll work for you, if you’ll pay them a fair wage. They’re not looking for charity.

Regarding Augery – You hear no specific words or voices, but see instead images. In your mind you see a vast city, and mighty towers – huge fortresses with tall white spires. There is a large plain that stretches for miles – and in the field you see legions of soldiers fighting each other – silver banners are waving; and black banners are gripped by the hands of dark warriors… The armies are fighting each other – the sights of magic spells slamming into the soldiers – explosions of death wiping out entire companies…. The vision fades and advances again – and you see the silver banners stabbing forward – fingers of smoke rising over the plains – and the silver banners have pushed ahead – the black banners are nearly gone – and only a small knot of the dark warriors are clustered in the plains…. The image forwards again… the dark banners are crushed – the silvers are victorious – the enemy is vanquished and the last soldiers are finished… the leader is surrounded – his captains dead – his guards finished – and as he is taken, he is seized… But as his capture is eminent, in your mind the last leader of this company utters a word or phrase you cannot hear – but the words clearly are dark in your mind, and your heart is troubled by horror that chills you to the marrow… Suddenly – in your vision the sky is blackened, the sun is shaded… a dark fire fills the sky… the explosion of fire and something that feels akin to madness which hurts even your soul, and makes you shudder…

- It has all happened before; the board is set – the pieces are moving – do not let it happen again…

ret-con Taedo

Having considered his options, as the riders were preparing to leave, Kae approached Taedo.
"Taedo-san," He says, bowing, "I am concerned about the possibility of running into the wolves again. There are few of us, and while Baroness Ariarh can communicate with them, i know of no-one else able to speak with animals. Are any among your people that maintain a close communion with nature that may be able to assist in averting a dangerous situation with the creatures? Ryul and I are able to calm animals, but a pack of dire-wolves aiming to defend their hunting-grounds may be beyond the ken of our mere Empathy. Are there any that you would be familiar with?"
You know any druids? I'm guessing that if there are any here, they'd be Gold Kobold =P

Back to the present! er forward to the present, rather.

Ka'etil takes the offered heart and tears a chunk out of it. "I catch your drift. Was a mercenary, like I said. I get working for what I get, and paying for what I ask for." he says to Rhett,

Taedo

"Of course, lord - please excuse my stupidity for not suggesting such a thing sooner," he says bow instantly to you - though much lower then you, of course.

"I shall seek among my kindred and find you one that can do what you wish at once, lord," he adds, bowing again, then rushing off to find one among his folk that may suit your needs...

Meanwhile...

They are pleased that you enjoy eating the meat.

"Bess said heart meat gives you the strength of the beast; that it gives you the heart and speed of that you killed - sometimes she told us to be feasting on dead folk - goblin-kin do that, and they be blame fool general-like, but there be some sense at least to feasting on strength of enemy," Rhett says with a grin.

"We ain't be like mercenary folk regular now - we be paid straight coin for real work. Ye got hard coin for straight work, that be all that we need then. What the trade ye looking for? I done hunting work for dwarf and human settlement - and Jaxx did work on ships fer a time; but she got better head for towns and such... We both did work in deep caves - fought with goblin and orc - and we done trade with different clans o' them on times, if they trade square - which happens rare, but sometimes."

"Aye," Jaxx interrupts "We done our trade; sometimes elf-folk, but not always - they never be trusting us true - on account o' we looking too close to kobold-regular - but we don't be liking them - elves general - as they looking down us. Still - as Grymm says - "Don't turn away a chance for work - ye never know when ye need a new meal; and it be better to keep up the chance to eat, rather then starve on account o' being poxing stuck on yerself" - beg pardon, but he says it, not we. But it be good truth - judge a lad or lass on the here and now - not on what his kin did..."

"Aye - kin aside - ye can learn a lot on mates, though," Rhett adds, pulling a dagger from his belt - one that you recognize as taken from one of the dead fighters earlier.

He begins to remove the organs of the creature, dumping the stomach and intestines onto the grass, and starts to trim the meat down into more manageable strips to carry, and also begins to skin it with brisk efficiency.

"See - a lad can't pick his kin, but he picks his mates - sure and true; and if he picks nasty mates - then it generally means that he be nasty hisself - but ye got a good crew o' folk about ye - and I reckon that speaks well on ye - as they wouldn't trek with ye, or ye with them - if half of ye be bad sorts, hey?" he adds, taking a bite out of the liver, as Tohk continues to cavort in the distance.

"Well - what jobs ye offering me and my kin Jaxx here? Give us both work, and we can talk terms, hey?" he adds - clearly waiting for terms.
