Chuckling Sable joins in, mocking their imminent demise. "Mother, we have been out drinking and we are out past curfew... but if Father knew where you had gone this would turn into a real fight, so let's just sweep this one under the rug, shall we?" Sable stretches his arms, a spell at the tip of his tongue waiting.

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

Bree swiftly draws daggers. Does her position in the room, scouting, put her behind the big bad, or off to his side? I'm sure it's between her and the group either way, yeah?

He draws his bow off his back and through clenched teeth mutters, I think my story ending just got a little fuzzy."

No bard bonus on this one, already used my 'take a 20' today and a 'take a 10' for a '20' wouldn't cut it either, i don't think (rare 15+ and high CR).

"No idea either... but it hasn't attacked yet" Winter maintains position.

The gray render gives a strange bellowing sounds and moves slowly backwards, until its back is against the wall. Its many eyes are now fixed on Sable.

Uh...so he is angry...but not that angry...or what?

Mercus looks at Sebastian, hoping for some kind of useful information.

"He seems uninterested in a fight he doesn't need to have, and so are we. No reason for blood to be shed that might not need to be, perhaps there is another way in?" Winter starts backing up, if the creature is disengaging, so will he.

You mean he's only like...defending his home?

Kabal was perplexed as it was easy to see that the beast was big enough to take them on...

Aye, could be plus we have the damn thing outnumbered big time. You all keep moving. I'll bring up the rear in case it changes it mind.

The weapon master positioned himself between the gray monster and the party and waited for them to pass before slowly backing up and out of the room.

Sable will speak in soothing tones, trying to calm the creature down.

An idea occurs to Bree as she sees the creature back away from Sable, and Sable address the creature, "Sable, this was once the home of the elves. Perhaps it has identified you as such, perhaps speaking your native tongue will suit you better here?"

It is a carnivore - no doubt about that.

What the hell is wrong with you people? That thing's hunger wont be sated by no damn trail ration. It would probably rather eat one of us! Like Cat said, lets kill it or keep moving already.

Winter simply nods as though leaving is a smart idea.

The gray render stares at Sable and his outstretched arm and suddenly the massive creature snaps the ration and devours it in a heartbeat - it quickly returns to its initial position afterwards...still not looking friendlier.

Sebastian's search unearthes that underneath the mound of leaves is a cavity in which a pile of ancient bones and equipemnt lie...remains of unlucky explorers...

The monster does not hinder you, when you leave the coliseum again and indeed, there is a large gap in the outer wall only about 50m away enabling you to enter the main hall from outside.

"By all means Bree, let's try here, your gentle and delicate step might catch any foes napping"

Male Human Weapon Master 6 ~ Inv. Rager 4 | AC 24 T 13 FF 22 | HP 129/129 | F +14 R +6 W +7 | Init +2

Hah! Good one Winter. That damn thing is dangerous as hell and we would've made a racket fighting that thing. Everything within a bow's shot would've heard us.

Kabal stood with nerves taught after the close encounter with the massive beast. In one regard he knew they did the right thing in walking away but a part of him wanted to test himself against the beast.

Female Half-Elf (Varisian) Fighter (Lore Warden archetype) 7

Caterine is still troubled and backs away from the beast as they depart, not dropping her guard even once they are free from it. "Aye, I'll surely sleep sound as a baby knowing that is out here and could come upon us as we sleep... it's hungry too..." her thinly veiled sarcasm betraying her thoughts that they've just left a threat unmanaged and likely to bother them again.

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

"And if I should find foes napping, what actions would you have me take?"

Bree waits a moment for Winter's answer before slipping off once again into the darkness.

"Come get your fellows and we can all come wake them up" Winter adds cheekily.

"We can deal with that thing once we know what else is here. If we just fight it there, then whatever is also here occupying this building and using light sources might come join they fray and hit us when we are injured. Light sources suggest an intelligent presence, I'd prefer we removed that risk first, and then if we have to deal with that thing we know it will be on our terms. The gray render remains behind and once you are outside again, you still aren't sure what kept you alive in there...

Wow, that thing looked pretty powerful...

Mercus whispers as you move over to the gap in the outer wall of the coliseum.

The forest in the distance seems unnaturally quiet now...and reminds you of a gigantic creature holdings its breath before...

As you cautiously enter the building, you only realize what a wonderful place this must have been before Celwynvian was destroyed - a multitude of marble columns holds the ceiling aloft and even though some of them are crumbled and fallen, it still looks stable. Mold and fungi seem to grow in every corner and crevice, and the scent of rot and dusty air gives the sizeable hall the feeling of unnatural closeness. Several ancient stone doors provide access to numerous other rooms and to the south stands a stands a vine-tangled platform.

Male Human Weapon Master 6 ~ Inv. Rager 4 | AC 24 T 13 FF 22 | HP 129/129 | F +14 R +6 W +7 | Init +2

Yah, it sure did.

Kabal grunted in reply and made his way through the breach. The beauty of the place was typically lost on the warrior...just a bunch of damn rubble...and probably infested with drow... The place looked perfect for an...ambush. Eyes open for an ambush. The big guy whispered as he took his own advice and scanned the area for threats.

@ Bree: Yes :)

After a while Bree returns, with some more knowledge about the room. In each of its corners is a door leading to something that resembles roughly a tower.

Beside these doors, there is also one leading to a central round structure inside the hall. There are three other smaller and rectangualr structures in the main hall too.

The platform is about 5m tall and a small stairwell leads up to it. Once Sebastian has made the ascent he is impressed by the view of the hall and how it must have felt to give a speech here.

Now that he's able to overlook a lot of the hall, he also makes out some small reptilian creatures hunting rodents in packs in the darker corners of the hall.

The openess of the chamber had Kabal on edge and he wanted to keep moving.

"This way, I believe." She says as she leads the group off towards the direction she and Winter concluded seemed to be the right way.

You agree that it morst probably came from the eastern part of the building, so either the southern or northern twoer-like section of the coliseum would be a good choice.

Sebastian images he can almost hear the last remnants of ancient echos of applause, but Sable's comment brings him crashing out of his speculation. The thought of future dealings with that....creature...whatever it was, "You, my friend, have a very odd concept of what you would allow in your nest. Just promise me I will not be around if you choose to feed it from your mouth."

He climbs down and sets off after Bree.

Somewhat horrified by the mental image that Sebastian gave him of Sable feeding the monster with his mouth..."Why the hell would he...oh, never mind. I don't want to know.

Kabal fought back the urge to chuckle...gotta stop with all the fun stuff bub...keep your head on the task... Caterine followed a few steps back from the big men, but eyes and arms at the ready.

Guess that means that you enter the central structure.

You push open a withered ancient oak portal that leads into an airy chamber. Motes of dust drift lazily through your torchlight and you can hardly make out the ceiling of the dome that rises overhead. Tangled vines tumble down from there like leafy curtains and their tips rest on the dilapidated weed-covered remains of some complex stone and metal device.
