You all know it. You all love it. You all want it.

Recruiting 3 players for a Rise of the Runelords game! However, we will NOT be starting right at the beginning of the book. Here's why;

I've ran this game for about three different groups that all fell apart for various, non-game reasons, and if I have to go through the opening scenes again I will vomit. Instead we are going to do things a little differently. First of all, this game will be Gestalt. I will only be accepting THREE players, because I'd rather focus on a small, intimate group. Going Gestalt gives you the edge you need to survive. Don't worry about the difficulty...I'll ratchet it up accordingly :)

A bit about me; I'm a long-time GM and roleplayer, both in person and with PbP. I have an account on this board that I've played under, but wanted to make one to GM with. I'm around multiple times on any given day.

Character Creation:
25 Point buy. Alternatively, you may roll 3d6, drop the lowest, and add 6 to the total. I do ask you to choose either or. If you roll, you get what you roll.
All Paizo material is approved.
Unchained variants of classes MUST be used for Summoners and Barbarians. Monks can pick Unchained or Normal.
We will start at Level 3. HP for each level will have been max; going further into the game, you'll roll, or take average +1.
Standard Wealth by Level. Crafting Feats are valid but may not reduce gear cost before play.
Background skills are in effect.
Combat Stamina is in play, and free for Fighters.
We will be using the suggested alternate feat tax rules presented here.
Unchained Rogues will gain Weapon Focus at 1st Level instead of Weapon Finesse.
3 Traits, one of which must be a Campaign Trait.
No Drawbacks.
Core races preferred. Uncommon and Featured races are accepted.

What I'm Looking For:
Weird as it sounds, the Gestalt is NOT about making your characters super powerful (though that is an undeniable side effect). It's about making sure all your bases are covered mechanically. I'm looking for well thought-out characters, believable personalities with solid motivations. The more background you have, the better your chance of getting in. Since this is a small game, I will expect a minimum of one post per day. More is better.

The Story So Far:
The story so far (for those of you new to the A.P.) is that your characters gathered in Sandpoint, a large village near Magnimar, for the Swallowtail Festival, a celebration sacred to Desna and a time that Sandpoint would have a grand re-opening of their rebuilt Cathedral, which had been burned down five years ago. That day, however, many Goblins attacked! They had never been so bold as to come into the city in numbers like this before! You and some other stalwart adventurers rallied, killing many Goblins and saving many townsfolk. Notable among the people you helped and allies you won were Ameiko Kaijutsu, Sheriff Belor Hemlock, Mayor Kendra Deverin, Father Zantus, and Aldern Foxglove.

After enjoying some newfound fame as local heroes, you came down for breakfast at The Rusty Dragon, the inn run by Ameiko. She was missing, and had a suspicious letter from someone called Tsuto. Upon traveling to the Glassworks, you found the workers murdered by Goblins. You fought them, and found Tsuto in charge of them, and defeated him as well. You managed to take him alive. You found out that Tsuto was Ameiko's half-brother, and that Tsuto had killed their father, Lonjiku, encasing him in molten glass in a macabre display of cruelty.

You found Ameiko captive in the basement of the Glassworks, and rescued her. You found that the facility extended downwards, and explored dark ruins, facing bizarre aberrations and a demonic quasit. Upon triumphing, you returned and rested.

Information you have found has led to the knowledge that the Goblin assault on Sandpoint is far from over. You were introduced by a shaken but recovering Ameiko to Shalelu, an Elven ranger, who gave you some more information. The Goblin tribes are gathering at Thistletop. Your group must travel there and rid Sandpoint of the threat before the Goblins grow too strong to overcome!

More specific information will be revealed when players are chosen and the game starts.

I think that about does it!

If anyone has any questions, please let me know!

Oh yeah, throwing in a dot. I'll roll. Stats: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4) + 6 = 16
Stats: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3, 6) + 6 = 21
Stats: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1, 3) + 6 = 13
Stats: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4) + 6 = 15
Stats: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6) + 6 = 24
Stats: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6, 4) + 6 = 19

So that's...
14
18
12
13
18
16

...yeah, I think I can work with that.

...I can't be the only person interested in this.

I've run the adventure path with heavy modification (Mythic and lots of PC background driven side adventures) but still if that rules me out I understand. On the plus side I have an alright idea after all these years about roughly what happened by default prior to this point.

3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2) = 10
3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 2) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1) = 7
3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 5) = 13
3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 6) = 14
14, 17, 13, 12, 17, 18
Wow... I really hope I get picked...
I wont start working on a character though until you confirm whether me having run the adventure a long while back would disqualify me.

Previous knowledge of AP is no problems for me. Should be a different beast than a standard run!

Nice. By the by, just so people know (if they want to put in for party balance) I am putting together an Unchained Monk/Feral Shifter druid. Going Feral Shifter mainly because I don't want to deal with an Animal Companion :p

dot

Unchained Monk/Feral Shifter...? That makes me want to play a Monk (Sensei)/Magus (Aescetic Fist)...

Okay, I'll bite! Game concept seems solid, houserules and tax feat evasion are the tune I dance to... and to boot, I love rolling for stats.

Stats: 3d6 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 3) + 6 - 1 = 15
Stats: 3d6 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 1, 4) + 6 - 1 = 11
Stats: 3d6 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (5, 4, 2) + 6 - 2 = 15
Stats: 3d6 + 6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 5, 5) + 6 - 3 = 16
Stats: 3d6 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (6, 4, 4) + 6 - 4 = 16
Stats: 3d6 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 6, 5) + 6 - 2 = 17
17-16-16-15-15-11
I couldn't complain even if I wanted to. Simply perfect array.

I will return after I iron out the concept I have in mind.

I will roll etc when im home later today

Dot. Interesting tweaks.

3d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1) + 6 = 14 => 13
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5, 3) + 6 = 19 => 16
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2, 5) + 6 = 18 => 16
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3, 1) + 6 = 13 => 12
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4) + 6 = 16 => 15
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6) + 6 = 18 => 15

Very useable. I will consider character possibilities. How long will recruitment be open?

Alright I need to write down his background but I have the mechanics done. I felt a healer would be a good idea but paired it with fighter to keep up with the rest of the group a bit.

I will highlight the additional traits feat in case you're rather I not take it.

Dot.

I will be working on an Elven swashbuckler/magus.

This sounds like exactly what I'm looking for, I'v playing ROTRL before but it's been a long time.

I have to agree 100% with you on gastult it's taken to extreams in some of the games on here

I won't be rolling, never had any luck with it so I'll stick with 25 point buy. I had a monster hunter in mind, I will get something up pretty soon.

I'm glad your going for atleast one post a day I've seen to many games die from not setting some type of post count, I work from home so won't have any problems with that.

I had one question while not the biggest part of the game how do plan on doing combat maps?

3d6: 3d6 + 6 - 3 ⇒ (4, 4, 3) + 6 - 3 = 14
3d6: 3d6 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (5, 2, 4) + 6 - 2 = 15
3d6: 3d6 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 6, 2) + 6 - 2 = 14
3d6: 3d6 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 6, 1) + 6 - 1 = 15
3d6: 3d6 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 5, 4) + 6 - 2 = 15
3d6: 3d6 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 5) + 6 - 1 = 17

I've got a dragon disciple/fighter I've been wanting to play. I'll see if I can get it update for this recruitment.

ok I just applied to another RotRL game but unsure if I will get in.

I have played book 1 only the advanced start will probably ensure going beyond that.

3d6 - 1 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1, 2) - 1 + 6 = 14
3d6 - 1 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2, 5) - 1 + 6 = 13
3d6 - 3 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3, 3) - 3 + 6 = 14
3d6 - 1 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1, 2) - 1 + 6 = 11
3d6 - 3 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3) - 3 + 6 = 15
3d6 - 3 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4) - 3 + 6 = 15

I have never run ROTRL but I have read the first book. This might be a good chance to tell this story. 25 points is nice but I think I'll roll because it's fun.

3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 1) = 7
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 3) = 12
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 3) = 14
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 2) = 9
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6) = 13
3d6: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 3) = 10

12,15,17,13,18,13... I like it. Now onto character creation.

3d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4) + 6 = 12 11
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4) + 6 = 17 15
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1, 4) + 6 = 17 16
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 1, 3) + 6 = 11 10
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6, 3) + 6 = 17 15
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5) + 6 = 15 14

Would you consider Third Party content? I've got an idea for a Magus using Spheres of Power and Spheres of Might archetypes, which I can link later, that I think could be fun. I'd like to combine this with Trapper Ranger, to cover our bases a little bit on the trap finding side.

Oh I have an arcanist/ sin mage wizard I want to play. Dotting for this.

3d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1, 3) + 6 = 12 11
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5, 6) + 6 = 23 18
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5) + 6 = 20 16
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4) + 6 = 20 16
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5, 4) + 6 = 19 15
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6) + 6 = 19 18

Alright, let's consult my google doc and see if there are any cool pairings I'd like to play.

My day has been rough, finally home. will get a character idea up asap

@Tundran- I like shorter recruitments so I'm going to run it only for 1 week. So we will be CLOSING RECRUITMENT TO NEW APPLICANTS ON FRIDAY AUGUST 18. However, if I get characters I like before then, I might close early.

@Kevin O'Rourke- Additional Traits is fine with me! I like the Shoanti, look forward to seeing your background.

@Ictoo- I'm not exactly certain right now. I'm considering either very theater of the mind, or using Roll20. I'm open to suggestions!

@Joseph- I'm not familiar with Spheres. Sell me on it.

3d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6) + 6 = 17 15
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6) + 6 = 19 16
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6) + 6 = 19 17
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4, 1) + 6 = 16 15
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1) + 6 = 18 17
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2) + 6 = 19 17

Uh...yeah, I'll take that.

Was originally thinking about going Halfling Alchemist/Cleric of Cayden Cailean, and with those stats, it's even more awesome! Or maybe Brawler/Cleric.

Alternatively, I've always wanted to play RotRL as Shalelu or Ameiko. What are your thoughts on that?

I'm a big fan of Theater of the Mind. Maps can really bog things down.

Not sure what your stance is on 3pp, I wanted to know if I would be allowed to use no a 3pp bloodline?Aboleth Bloodline. If not I understand and will find a more suitable bloodline.

@Seth- sorry to hear, my dude! Take your time :)

I'll also note that I AM going to be considering party balance so having your casting bases covered, plus having a decent skill monkey/face, will be good. You'll still have all the traditional challenges of the AP...plus some extras :)

My stance on 3rd PP is case-by-case acceptance. I'll take a look right now. I'll let you know that unless it's crazy O.P. a Bloodline will probably be fine.

3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4, 1) + 6 = 16=15
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1) + 6 = 14=13
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4) + 6 = 17=15
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6, 4) + 6 = 19=17
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2) + 6 = 13=12
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5) + 6 = 23=18

Thanks Ragnarok.
49 points is good.

Yeah, Aboleth looks fine, go for it.

Oh, and guys, I'd prefer you not post with the alias; just link it for me in this thread. That'll make it easier to keep them organized on my end, please and thank you.

Now I know Wizard and Arcanist aren't the best mix in terms of saves, bab and hp. However I really like the mix regardless. Locking it in now and rolling his health.

hp: 1d6 ⇒ 6
hp: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Oh I have a question, how are your dealing with alignments?

I think I'll be working up an halfling rogue/sorcerer with the shadow bloodline. I might take an archetype, but we'll see.

What exactly do you mean re: alignments?

Also HP is max for the first 3 levels

Sweet, I like max health for the first couple levels.

As for alignment, I mean will your game be good only, non-evil or all alignments but don't be a dick?

Ah. No Alignment restrictions, though I'm less inclined towards the chaotic evil/neutral alignments as those tend to be the players that make that worst of excuses for their fun-ruining actions;
"I'm just doing what my character would do."

But for me alignment is just a guide, a place to base your personality from.

Spheres of Power Archetype and wiki, as well as Archetypes for Spheres of Might with links in the doc to the system itself.

Spheres of Power tones down the "quadratic" power of casters, opting to instead focus on thematic choices over "Which is the more powerful level 3 spell?" With Spheres ranging in theme from Light and Weather to Death and Destruction, there's something to be found for all. It also includes ways to dabble, picking up a sphere ability for a feat, for those interested in magic, but not inclined enough to take the full plunge.

Spheres of Might is more focused on options in combat than "how can I get in full attack range and pile on numbers." Many of the Spheres focus on standard action attacks, providing interesting abilities, keeping the user useful to the team without being overpowering in the damage department.

Working on a concept now. Thinking something in the line of a Dex paladin

Paladin of Ragathiel (vengence/tempered champion) / inquisitor

3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3) = 9 14
3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 4) = 15 17
3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5) = 14 16
3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5) = 17 18
3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6) = 8 13
3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5) = 15 17

This has a lot of promise

Fair enough. I was thinking of playing NE. However I totally understand where you're coming from so maybe I will be a different alignment. Probably LE and right up some contract I would bind myself to.

NE is cool, when I said neutral I was referring mainly to CN. Depending on the alignments of the party, though, I'll want good justification for you traveling with them and doing generally heroic things.

I'll look st the Spheres stuff later

Alright! Technically, the two archetypes replace/change some of the same things, but the Spheres of Power Archetype only changes those things to be compatible with Spheres of Power.

Looking at making something heavily armoured, initial idea is a Brawler//Fighter combination with the Fighter changing into Paladin when they next level. Ulfen bodyguard whose client was killed in the Goblin attack leaving him with a sense of failure and a desire to get some kind of revenge for the man.

Stats: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5) = 11 = 16
Stats: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5) = 16 = 17
Stats: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 6) = 15 = 18
Stats: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 5) = 10 = 14
Stats: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4) = 11 = 14
Stats: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3) = 10 = 14

Dotting. Thinking about going kineticist/unchained rogue. Question - finesse training allows you to add dex to damage on one finessable weapon of choice. Can I choose my kinetic blade as that weapon, since it is finessable? Would it apply to my kinetic whip as well, when I get it, since they are both versions of my kinetic blast?

stats: 3d6 + 6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 6, 4) + 6 - 3 = 16
stats: 3d6 + 6 - 3 ⇒ (5, 3, 4) + 6 - 3 = 15
stats: 3d6 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (6, 4, 4) + 6 - 4 = 16
stats: 3d6 + 6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 6, 3) + 6 - 3 = 15
stats: 3d6 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 6, 1) + 6 - 1 = 14
stats: 3d6 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 1, 3) + 6 - 1 = 11

I will, with some reservations, allow Spheres of Power. If I find it to be too cumbersome or powerful in play, I will ask you to change the build.

My restriction is this; your character may only have Spherecasting or normal casting on both sides of the Gestalt. You may not mix and match casting from different sources. No Spherecasting and normal spell progression,

Okay, finalizing stats for halfling UnRogue/Cleric of Cayden Cailean. Buff caster/potion brewer, support fighter, skill-monkey. Fluff to come.

@GM I sent you a PM regard to a character concept =^^=

That's part of why I chose a Ranger Archetype that gives up spellcasting! Less complication is always better, despite my character. What about Spheres of Might?

That link to the Spheres of Might stuff is no bueno for me. But sight unseen I'll go ahead and say okay.

Huh, weird. Probably a copy paste issue, I'll get a working link up this evening when I get home from work.

Edit: Fixed, hopefully. I think the problem was that I accidentally linked the mobile redirect url.

Yeah, that's better.

Glancing it over I don't have a problem with it, but to be honest I have no time to really delve into it, so same thing I said before; if I find stuff to be too cumbersome or OP, I'll ask for it to be changed.
