Young Harrol
|
As quickly as it appeared, the fog spirals back into Harrol's holy symbol as he dismisses the spell. Standard Action.
If he determines that the spellcaster is still present, he'll duck inside the cart and take cover. Move Action
| DM Panic |
As the mists part and vanish, the Pathfinders are greeted with an interesting sight - that of a robed woman holding a miniature-sized version of Cayden's Last Keg standing next to the cart.
The larger keg no longer appears to be in the cart.
Smiling, the woman quips, "That's not as fun, you've dismissed my cover prematurely, half-man!"
Round 1
23 "D" : Shrinks and grabs Cayden's Last Keg
19 Sad Rock : Delays
19 Harrol : Dismisses obscuring mist, takes cover in cart

Now Up: Damvorak
Sad Rock
|
Round 1
Seeing the woman being to steal Damvorak's beer, Sad Rock makes the tough choice to leave his protection of Caydeen's Ass and go save the spirits of his friend.
"No steal friend's beer!"
Sad Rock double moves to K20, provoking from the keg thief if she has hands free.

Damvorak stands and attacks the woman with the keg, "Give that back - it's not yours!"
I rule standing from a seated position is a '5' step' that doesn't provoke, but I've seen lots of DM variation. If it's a move action, I only get one attack though at +2 over what I've rolled below as I'm standing either way.
(+1 from higher ground as I'm on the cart? If not, subtract 1 from each attack.)
Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 1 = 15 for damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 1 = 18 for damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Young Harrol
|
Ahhh, that enormous initative roll put a dent in my plans somewhat. She's had a surprise round and an action. D'oh!
For when it comes up, Harrol will move within 20ft and hurl one of his stones.
Magic Stone: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
| DM Panic |
I'm good that standing up in the cart uses a "5ft step" action. Otherwise there's no fun in sitting in a cart or wagon on journeys because it's vastly sub-optimal despite being realistic. Also good with +1 from higher ground from standing in the cart.
Sad Rock moves into position to cut off the woman's escape route, while Damvorak stands up and disciplines the thief for her indiscretions (one solid whack for 9 damage)
The keg-thief begins taking a step back, reciting arcane words as she begins to shimmer out of existence, only to partially reappear on the far side of the wagon, reciting different arcane words. It's a confusing moment for everyone (See map for d1 and d2)
She ("D" in initiative and "d1" on the map") is casting Vanish.
She ("T" in initiative and "d2" on the map") is casting Sleep, using a standard action in round 1 to complete its casting from the standard action that was used in the surprise round.
There is meant to be confusion that there is only a single sorceress, as they are identical twins that are appearing and disappearing through the use of vanish and invisibility.
As her words complete, a calm weariness falls upon the Pathfinders about the cart. (10ft radius burst catches Damvorak, Thorel and Benjamin - DC16 Will save or suffer the effects of Sleep)
Round 1
23 "D"/"d1" : Shrinks and grabs Cayden's Last Keg
19 Sad Rock : Delays
19 Harrol : Dismisses obscuring mist, takes cover in cart
10 Damvorak : Whacks the keg-thief for 9 damage
9 Ramli : Mage Armor
8 "T"/"d2" : Finishes casting sleep at Damvorak, Benjamin and Thorel
6 Benjamin : TBD
5 Thorel : Mage Armor (if not sleeping)
Round 2
23 "D"/"d1" : 5ft step and casts vanish, provoking an AoO from Sad Rock.
Now Up: Benjamin (and saves from Benjamin, Thorel and Damvorak)
Benjamin has a critical save and action here before "D" resolves her Vanish. I see Harrol's roll which will be kept for Round 2.

The keg-thief narrowly avoids Sad Rock's shield as she finishes muttering her arcane words and shimmers out of sight.
Yet, just as she reappears again on the far side of the cart and finishes an impossible spell of repose that beckons Damvorak and Benjamin to the realm of dreams, she gets pummeling by the combined attacks of three of the Pathfinders.
Thorel's zapping, Ramli's fireworks and Harrol's magic stone all zot and thud as she stumbles about, blinking her eyes. Yet, the mini-keg is nowhere to be seen in her possession.

No weapons in any enemy hands at the moment, so nobody threatens Damvorak.
Sad Rock stirs Damvorak from his slumber as the sorceress cackles and uncorks a flask from her belt, draining its contents.
"Ha! Silly relic guards, couldn't even stop a girl from taking your keg!"
Harrol can barely make out footsteps scrambling off into the distance along the cobblestone. The halfling cleric leaps from the cart and begins pursuit of the believed invisible original thief.

@Damvorak: It didn't matter this time with all those exceptional rolls, but in the future you can roll two dice for your two attacks, and leave an 'ooc' comment that the second can be used if it's applicable -- versus rolling a single attack in one spoiler, and a pair of attacks in a second spoiler.
Otherwise, you deny yourself maybe a great roll in the single attack spoiler that isn't used in the multi-attack spoiler.
It would be something like this:
Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 for damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
If it only took a 5ft step to get there and he has a full-round action, then his second attack...
Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 for damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Damvorak leaps from the cart, landing softly next to the sorceress who shatters her empty potion bottle at the half-orc's feet. Undeterred, stepping through crunching glass, Damvorak brings one end of his staff up with lightning speed cracking the woman just below the chin. As she stumbles around, the other end comes crashing back down with a sickening splunch as she collapses into Damvorak's arms.
(d2 is down; you all realize there are a pair of identical twins where the one with the chest sprinted off with Harrol in close pursuit)

The heroes rush off in search of the invisible thief, and it's Damvorak that discovers the sorceress as she materializes back into view, discarding a flask onto some hay near a fenced area.
Now realizing she has appeared, she turns her flushed face towards the half-orc, clearly distraught at collapsed form of her twin sister.
"Please! I give up if you can keep her alive!"
We can drop out of initiative and combat if you accept.

"I am Durnil. My sister is Tersula. Are you able to heal her, priest?"
Shuffling through her robes, Durnil sets the shrunken version of the keg back into the cart and looks hopefully at the other Pathfinders.
"If you can heal my sister, and promise to let us go, we can tell you where the woman who hired us is. I'm certain, you being Pathfinders and all that, you'd all love to know who's behind the thefts of these relics..."
You believe Durnil will hold up her end of the bargain.

Damvorak on a roll...
Young Harrol
|
Harrol leans against the wall, struggling to catch his breath as Damvorak heals the fallen mage.
He looks up at the woman, wide eyed. "How did you... huff... snatch the barrel so fast? How did you... hooo... make it so small?"
| DM Panic |
As Tersula regains consciousness, Durnil ignores Harrol's question and crouches over her and brushes her sister's hair from her face.
"Ters! Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
Blinking, Tersula reaches about her person for a weapon before realizing she is not in combat and responding in a weak whisper. Her sister wastes no time wrapping her arms around her fallen sibling and then proceeds to look up in your direction.
"She's at the third warehouse two streets down from the Pitview - there's a small driveway and there were two empty wagons out front earlier. If you hurry, she may still be within!"
Standing, the two siblings hobble deeper into the alley.
**
Feel free to make additional plans or roleplay, but I'm posting the map for the warehouse arrival now in case you have no additional plans. In that case, just add a post for the warehouse arrival.
The exterior of this run-down warehouse is rotting, and the roof is clearly sagging in places. Any paint that once coated its walls has long since flaked off the parched-looking gray wood. The windows are boarded firmly shut, and both pairs of loading doors appear to be jammed closed.
Damvorak
|
"Wait right there!"
Damvorak does not let them go until they return what they stole. Once he has that, he is fine with them hobbling away.
- - -
"She's an archer, and she uses poison so everyone be careful. Keep your eyes on higher ground - she'll probably attack from above. Can anyone fly up to meet her?"
Young Harrol
|
My magic stones last for half an hour. Would you say they're still active for this fight?
As they approach the complex, Harrol calls on Iomedae's blessing. Casting bless
He'll then turn to Damvorak. "You know, I don't think I've ever asked you about that holy symbol around your neck..."
Ramli Il-Bahr
|
Ramli watches as the two women leaves. Twins, huh ... Wait. Twins!
He clears his throat.
"Ahem. Ladies. Now that this unpleasantness is behind us, is there a way I can find you if I should need to later?"
He shakes his head as they leave his sight and turns back to his fellow Packminders.
Pathfinders! Don't listen to the rock...
At the warehouse, he looks around.
"Well," he whispers, "let's hope the roof being in such poor condition means she won't be sniping at us from above!"
| DM Panic |
You have had the keg returned to you. You still have the cart, and can choose to either bring that with you, or leave it somewhere "safe" while you investigate the warehouse. As long as you are quick about it and pretty much cut straight to the warehouse, I'm good with it only taking about 15 minutes to get there, so Harrol's magic stones would still be active.
When you are ready to proceed into the warehouse, pick a door.
The northern door requires a DC15 Disable Device check or DC20 strength check to get inside.
The western door requires a DC15 Disable Device check or DC25 strength check to get inside.
Disable Device can be done quietly. The Strength check would obviously be significantly noisier.
Sad Rock
|
Well peeps, do we have the cart & Arse & keg or not? If we do, Sad, the most dedicated Packminder ever, is happy to guard it (that being the Arse). I'm going to assume that we left it and Caydeen's most prized Arse someplace safe, unless all y'all abuse Sad of such notion.
Sad Rock looks at the warehouse and scratches his head, lost in thought.
Outside of warehouse like how others see Sad Rock. But Sad not monster...neither is warehouse.
