Rain and Flynn recall that the island lies in the northern part of the Shackles. Sailors claim the island got its name from the large statues along its shores. The statues’ eyes are missing, though some say the bare sockets once held enormous gemstones. Colonists settled the island once before and built a fort there, but they disappeared soon after. Some say they left on a treasure hunt, but others claim they perished and their spirits now haunt the island. That is all you can remember or find out at the moment.

Horatio Flynn |

Looking at the others he says I'm sure you will do the Shackles, and yourselves, proud. Good luck to you in your endeavors and I shall see you three months hence.
Horatio tosses a glance at the others and his eyes flick back to this man.
He would have liked to have known what the man had witnessed, if anything, during their voyage. But given that his comrades seem to have no desire to ask the man any specific details - and given that the man was clearly dismissing them - he says nothing as his fingers tap the table thoughtfully.
He looks at the others for a long moment, then he quaffs his drink and stands up.
"Aye - three months it is, then," he says to the man.
"Thank you for the dinner and the lovely evening, it was a pleasure," he adds, then bows to the man, then to the others, then he politely excuses himself.

Do we know where the colonists came from, and roughly how long ago this was?

Rain Taneththir |

Seijiro sighs... yet another person on board who ignores his presence... he hangs back with Rain and Variel.
Rain waited a moment for Jiro to join her and Variel and the three quietly chatted among themselves for a time and listened to the Master of the Gales.
"Aye, and thank you Master of the Gales. Until we meet again on the island."
After the druid Captain left them to their revelry, Rain turned to her companions, "There have been claims that the large statues on the shores of the island once held enormous gemstones in their eyesockets. Now, they are just bare sockets. The island was settled by colonists and a fort was built there, but then the people vanished. I have heard it said that they all left on some treasure hunt and never returned. However, others have said they all perished and their spirits still haunt the island."

Horatio takes out a smoke and lights it.
"Then that'll likely mean we'll need to deal with undead," he says as he grips the smoke between his teeth and lights it with a cantrip.
Then, taking a deep breath, he scowls as he considers options and looks up at the others.
"Anyone got any plans on what we ought to bring?" he asks them, then something suddenly clicks in his head.
"Hey - that remind me; given that this race has its share of folk hanging around, does anyone got a notion if Lady Fellwind's about?" he says as he suddenly peers around the folk celebrating.
GM - do we know if Tessa is here to witness the conclusion of the race - and if so, where Horatio can find her?

Seijiro |

"the island sounds like the kind of place you'd expect to find restless spirits of the dead... Nice to hear there was a fort there, perhaps we can repurpose the structure as the beginnings of our own manor, or a fortress if such is necessary. When we get there, perhaps our clerics can stoneshape it however we need it to be.. unless it's made of wood. Without knowing in advance, we have no way of knowing what kind of craftsmen we might need to bring along, do we? But maybe we can do some reconnaisance, then send off for who and what we need? We'll need staff for this fastness we're going to build or remodel as well, at least eventually."

Dhaavan |

Seijiro will collect his own winnings as well, though not invited to join the others who went out to collect, then meets the others at the Master of Gales' tent. He waits patiently until the conch sounds and enters with the others. When Variel and Rain are specifically mentioned for their superb actions, he cheers heartily for them, and encourages others to do the same...
After all the accolades have died down to some extent, he nods to Rajah. "Aye, we'll do this and do it right... give the free captains a welcome befitting their rank and station. We've hardly met by the way, my name is Seijiro and I'm Quartermaster officially on the Dread Lady, though in truth my services are rarely called for in that capacity. Nice to meet you finally."
Dhaavan interjects informing Rahaj, Sejiro here is a master of many among the most delicate of the Pirating arts, liberating treasure from secured spaces. You're not sure about how long ago but you think they might have been Chelish.
You are told by several attendees that Tessa was not able to make it, although you do see your friend Captain Pierce Jerrel.

Dhaavan, you ask around and find an old blind man mending a fishing net sitting on a crate not far from the tent. When you ask him about the island he leans back and says I've heard many tales about that island but not many that I'd call anythin' oth'r than freebooter lies told by poppinjays. A few I can tell ye though. I've heard tell that there be giant sized ruins standing upon the highlands of the isle. They're supposed to be filled with ancient treasure or some such but the ruins be guarded by massive lizard-like beasts. Supposedly the ruins date all the way back to the empire of Ghol-gan that once spanned the entire coast of Garund.

Horatio Flynn |

You are told by several attendees that Tessa was not able to make it, although you do see your friend Captain Pierce Jerrel.
Recalling a bit about Jerrel, Horatio considers if she should approach the man. However, after a moment of thought, he decides to speak to him.
”Oye, Captain Jerrel,” Horatio says amicably.
”I come bringing a bit of bad news I wished to share. Further, I wondered if you might be able to do me a small service?” he asks with a quiet voice.
”During the race we saw a ship – the Sullied Strumpet, captained by one Genevive Writ – being attacked by a Fiendish Dragon Turtle.”
”We do not know, but it is very likely, that multiple Elementals and other Summoned Creatures were summoned by that sod Harrigan for the purpose of preventing anyone from defeating him in the race.”
He pauses, considering things then continues.
”We currently have the First Officer of the Strumpet aboard – one Madeline Melion – she was badly hurt but is currently recovering and should hopefully be herself in a few days.”
”Several of the lads that sailed with her were also rescued. Currently they’re sailing with us, but that may change in time.”
”That was the bad news; specifically, that Harrigan used sorcery to try to prevent anyone from beating him in the race.”
Horatio knows there is no formal proof that Harrigan used magic, but given the circumstantial evidence, he himself was firmly convinced in the foul pirate's dishonesty.
Even so, Horatio glances around to make sure that no one is listening in and then continues.
”My favor is to ask that you deliver this news to our friend the Lady Fairwind – as I recall she is not friendly with Harrigan and may find this information useful in whatever plans she has regarding their future interactions.”
”Further, if you are in the vicinity of “Hell Harbor” it was said that the former Captain Writ donated coin to the impoverished folk there.”
”I was wondering if you would be able to inform the people of Hell Harbor that Captain Writ’s ship was foully attacked and that she died like a proper captain, but that there’s a score to settle with those that did the attacking and that the crew of the Dread Lady are up to the task.”
Horatio watches Jerrel for a moment, gauging the man.
He personally believed that Harrigan was responsible for the attacks, though he couldn’t prove it, but it seemed too much of a coincidence that a Fiendish Creature would attack a ship that was in the lead right before Elementals attacked their own ship - targeting specifically the Pilot while it ignored those that did it harm, as if it was under orders to stop the ship from advancing.
He had no idea how powerful Harrigan was, but it was clear that he was bested and likely humiliated and would probably want to try something against the crew of the Dread Lady at some point.
That being the case Horatio believed it would be good to make sure that Harrigan’s efforts to gather allies was halted as soon as possible.
Telling another Pirate Lord that was not in good terms with Harrigan that his actions had probably sunk other ships in the race might be a useful piece of information that Tessa could use against Harrigan, if she wished (and though she may reward the people who shared that tip, Horatio would be content to know that the information might help her fight and possibly defeat Harrigan).
Further, the reputation of the Sullied Strumpet suggested that the former captain had many loyal supporters out of Hell Harbor. Letting them know that their benefactor was likely killed by Harrigan would probably make it difficult for him to recruit from that area, but it could also help to draw supporters from that same section in the future…
He watches Jerell for a moment, curious to know how the man would respond...

DM Immortal |

Jerrel looks around for a moment before saying I can make sure the message gets sent to Hell Harbor but without proof, ye cannot make accusations like that against a Pirate that sits on the council. I can let her know your suspicions but as of now they are just that, and dangerous to be saying. Jerrel nods and then moves back off to join in the celebrations.

"The Blue Rajah" |

Rajah who seems to be lost in his own world, looks over at the rogue, grinning and with a blank stare before it finally dawns on him that he was speaking. "Seijiro! Quartermaster! I got that. I did. Truly," he claims before giving way to a sigh. "But you must forgive me, my good man, I beg of you. I was lost in my own world there for a moment but I did catch the heart of what you were saying. Rajah is what I call myself and the pleasure is all mine, good sir," he says with a slight bow.

Horatio Flynn |

Jerrel looks around for a moment before saying I can make sure the message gets sent to Hell Harbor but without proof, ye cannot make accusations like that against a Pirate that sits on the council.
Horatio smiles thinly under flat eyes.
"But of course of I can, and - in fact - I just did," he says with conviction.
"Besides, the proof would be extremely easy to get," he says.
"If you doubt Harrigan then have someone ask him about it, publicly, but use a bloody Truthsayer."
"Put a reliable Caster who can Detect a Truth or Lies in front of his peers and then you'll have the evidence you need," he adds almost impatiently.
He looks back at the ship and then he turns back to Jerell.
"Look, when we were in the water we encountered a Fiendish Giant Turtle... It was fiendish, as in - not from this plane - it was a summoned creature..."
"And meantime we got threats of an invasion from those devil-worshiping Cheliaxian basterds and suddenly a caster powerful enough to summon a Fiendish creature like that just happens to be in the water close enough to attack nothing but a couple of ships which - coincidentally - threatened Harrigan's lead?"
"Doesn't that even merit looking into? Shouldn't someone bother to check that out? Isn't summoning evil creatures that big and dangerous really hard? Wouldn't that take a Caster that was extremely powerful to do something like that? A Caster who had lots of training in that sort of thing?"
"Isn't it possible that Harrigan might be working with Casters that summoned monsters to fight his competition - and isn't it possible that the specific style of attack he used is also pretty consistent with the way Cheliax agents would act?" he says, somewhat rhetorically, frustration mounting in him.
Then he pauses and takes a few deep breaths and remembers that the others he sails with have a completely different opinion when dealing with folk like Harrigan.
Milani give me the strength...
Taking another deep breath, he continues.
"To clarify this point further; in this matter I stand alone."
"The others officers I sail with on the Dread Lady would never make such unfounded accusations which might impugn the honor of a Pirate Lord - they are far too honorable for that."
"I - on the other hand - don't give a gods damn about the honor of Harrigan," he adds with a tight, but polite voice.
"If anyone has a problem with what I told you then just tell them that it was just me - Horatio Flynn... not any of the other folk from the officer cadre on the Dread Lady."
"And for what it's worth, I'm not some Pirate Lord, I'm not even noble blood... I'm just a kid from Sargava and I don't like seeing folk like Harrigan getting away with this stuff."
He glances at the sky for a moment and shakes his head.
"Will you at least tell Tessa?" he adds, watching the man intently.
I can let her know your suspicions but as of now they are just that, and dangerous to be saying.
Horatio stares at the man for a while.
"Tessa's more than capable of doing the smart thing with this tip... And she'll know what the smart thing is far better than I will," he says finally.
"Meantime, I'm pretty sure she knows how to take care of herself... You give her the information and I got complete faith that she'll know how to handle it with more tact than I do," he adds with a somewhat resigned voice.
Jerrel nods and then moves back off to join in the celebrations.
Horatio draws a smoke from his jacket and lights it as he watches Jerrel wander off.

As much as he would have liked to just relax and celebrate their victory the task that the Master of Gales gave them combined with the knowledge that Rain and Horatio had meant they had a long project ahead of them. It seems to me that we have some luck at least that the island was previous settled. The presence of a fort allows us to have some form of home base to shelter in and a location to host the pirate lords. The problem is that we have no idea what state the fort is in. As Jiro mentions we might have a lot of repair work to do.
Turning to Rain he asks, How far is it to the island and what is the nearest port city from there that would have building supplies?
Ideas rattling around in his head Variel turns to each of his companions with question, thoughts or tasks for them.
Laying a hand on Jiro's shoulder Variel inquires, Jiro, if you can I want you to try and take a tally of everything that is being served and used here at this celebration. That should give us an idea at least of what we may need for when the pirate lords visit. Then we can see how much that costs and if we have enough plunder and space to put that all in the Lady to take with us to the island. If not then we may have to make multiple trips.
Looking out over the crowd for Piper and not seeing her Variel turns to Horatio and whispers quietly to him. Horatio, I have seen how good Piper is at her craft. Does she have any other friends that we could recruit to help us in any repairs that would need to be done to the fort. Even if they are in need of liberation to help our cause we might need to do so. Perhaps we can work on a way for any that join us to be able to reside on the island and are granted a tract of land for their service.
Not sure how to ask without offending his first mate Variel starts with his title indicating his respect of the man and his station. Dhaavan, Lord of the Rock, are there any of your subjects that may wish a change of scenery? Anyone with a trade would be welcome to join us. If we are to tame an island we must have a strong settlement with many craftsmen. I do not wish to steal away any of your people from you. That is why I am broaching the matter to you first. If you so decline then we will need to look elsewhere in other ports and cities.
Rajah, you are new to us and I am unfamiliar with what abilities to bring to our group. However if Adular leaves us then we are in need of divine assistance. Are you gifted in the way of sendings, working stone and other miracles? If so then we will much need for you later. In the meantime though I would ask that you help the others as you see fit.
The only one that Variel does not have a task for is Rain. Instead he puts his hands on each of her hips as he looks into her eyes. Speaking to her softly in elven, Dearest, I do not wish to burden you with any of this. The wedding must come first. We must continue with our plans as well as tame this island. Do you think we can manage both at the same time? Is there anything I can do now in the planning process. We are only a month a few short days away from that blessed day.

”That’ll be no worries,” he says with an almost laconic voice, completely masking the frustration for troubled him earlier.
”Rain’s the fastest pilot in The Shackles, so speed’s not an issue.”
”Besides, we have three whole months and that’s a really long time,” he adds with a shrug.
”If you recall, we were pinched by that whoreson Harrigan on Erastus the 29th – and now it’s barely the 22nd of Neth… Since the time Harrigan took us we’ve grown from naught but a group of swabs in a press gang into one of the most respected crews in The Shackles – Hell, you just got made a Pirate Lord… and all of that in less than four months…”
”Surely we can take care of a few threats on an island and then set things alright in less the time it took us to get this far, eh?” he adds with a grin.
”Also, as for more than one trip? Well, what of it – if we need to ferry more goods faster then why not get more ships?” he adds.

You are right Horatio that Rain is the best pilot in these parts. However there is just 1 of her and if we need several ships for supplies then that is going to take time to first find the ships, take them to a port to load up with supplies and then bring them back tot eh island. During that time Rain will be with the Lady still and who knows how long those supply ships will take.
Best case scenario is even if it takes Rain only 2 days to get to a port, then 1 day for loading the ship and 2 days back. That is 5 days gone for a single supply run. Hopefully the fort is in good enough shape that he repairs will not be too time consuming. That is my biggest worry.

Horatio grins.
”Aye, indeed!" he adds with a nod.
”And she’s not the only one handy at fixing things up, of course. But that does leave a few things to consider about this place…”
”Firstly, what kind of terrain are we talking about here? I mean, there’s a big difference between something like Tidewater Rock and something like Quent, you know?” he asks.
”The reason I’m asking is if we want the island to be self-sufficient; if we want it to be able to provide food for them that guard and protect it, then likely we’ll need farmers, or – if you prefer – colonists.”
”That being the case, I’m more curious to know about the full nuances of the island itself, you know?”
”If there’s a fort there, how long was it around? Do you reckon it was made from stone as Jiro-san suggested, or maybe just some wooden stockade... Did it have gun stanchions for cannon, or would it be using more arcane defenses? Those things will likely effect what we try to create...”
”Also, if the fort is still standing, perhaps we may find places that had been once cultivated to grow things on?” he adds, then pauses, as if thinking of a hunch he hadn't had time to share with Variel yet...
”Still, if it’s as sweet a plum as all that, then how come the Pirate Lords didn’t already clean up the mess and claim it for their own…”
This gets him thinking a bit.
”You know, if we fix this place up and they come sailing into it and like what they see, what’s to stop them from taking it from us?” he says, still suspicious of the reaction from the Master of Gales…

Horatio scratches his beard.
"Well, if we're on the island working, then we won't necessarily need the Lady anchored off the beach, right? I mean, that would let Rain ferry gear while we're doing the grunt work... Of course, this assumes we don't have other lads to help at that point."
"Plus, Rain's damn good, but we do have other good pilots to call on, too. If all they have to do is ferry gear, then that shouldn't be too tricky; that'd leave her with us and then we could get some other folk to pick up mundane supplies," he adds with a shrug.
Best case scenario is even if it takes Rain only 2 days to get to a port, then 1 day for loading the ship and 2 days back. That is 5 days gone for a single supply run. Hopefully the fort is in good enough shape that he repairs will not be too time consuming. That is my biggest worry.
Horatio laughs.
"Well, we'll likely want more than just supplies at this point - we'll want able bodies and workers. I got a few notions on where we can rustle some good folk up, but I'll leave the fine details to Dhaavan as he's better suited to that thing than we are."
"But as it stands I feel like we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves... We don't know the disposition of the island, nor how hard it will be to clean up - both of threats and of actual mundane issues like brush and overgrowth and other hash like that..."
"How far is this place specifically from a good port - and by that I mean a trusty port that's well stocked and supplied - and what kind of terrain will we have to work with when we get there; rocky, jungle, mountains - or maybe we'll be lucky and find something nice like fertile plains with plenty of fresh water streams to draw water from..."
"Until we know that, we may be worrying over nothing."
Then he leans in and whispers to Variel -
"For what it's worth, I'll be making sure to try to tweak things up there a little, at least try to class the joint up a bit, you know? Make it more than just presentable, but try to make it look nice... I mean, once we take it, that is... After all, you need a decent place to get married, and that's coming up sooner than the three months."

She was relieved and pleased that he remembered their wedding among the present celebration and preparation. Rain nodded. "Aye, we can do both. The wedding is a month and a half from now. After the ceremony, we will still have over a month to complete preparations for the Free Captains' visit to the Island. I shall send word to my grandfather before we set sail - letting him know what has happened and where we will be. Indeed Flynn, we must arrive at this island and see what there is before we know the full extent of the work before us. Still it wouldn't hurt to get supplies and a temporary plan at least.
When Flynn whispers to him privately Variel shakes his adamantly, N-O. No Flynn. We have been over this before when you asked previously and my answer has not changed. Even contemplating such an idea would be to spit in the face of Rain's grandparents for all the work and effort they have put forth already. The wedding will be held on Tempest Cay. Final answer. Please do not bring this matter up any more as we have more pressing issues to deal with.

The island is about 100 miles west of Drenchport. You do not have any charts or maps of it as noone has been there in quite a long time.

Turning to Rain he asks, How far is it to the island and what is the nearest port city from there that would have building supplies?
After a little reflection, Rain answered Variel and informed the group, "From memory, it is about a hundred miles west of Drenchport. There are no maps or charts of the island as none have travelled there in a very long time."

Seijiro |

Seijiro blushes and looks embarrassed at Dhaavan's praise.. "Thanks, Dhaavan, sometimes I think my talents are bit underwhelming. You make me sound grander than I am." He gives Dhaavan a little bow, deep enough though as befits his rank as a lord, though now that all own an island, that ALMOST but not quite, ranks them as equals, Dhaavan still being the only titled Lord among them.
Seijiro turns back to Rajah and says, "Anything you need, let me know, Rajah, and I'll look into it for you."
Seijiro then goes about his duties as requested by Variel... he takes elaborate notes on the current event - tables, chairs, pavilions, half-tents, tablecloths, even down to small things like flatware, plates, cups, serving dishes and utensils, types of dishes served, and the numbers of staff and how many of what type. If he can, he'll look for the majordomo of the event and interview him to see if his notes left anything out, and if so, what and how much/how many are needed, including kitchen and scullery staff which he cannot see. He'll ask about the food as well... how much was needed to put on this kind of event...

Seijiro turns back to Rajah and says, "Anything you need, let me know, Rajah, and I'll look into it for you."
Nodding, "Thank you." Not a moment later, a thought comes to mind. "Actually, I could use direction on where to get a bit more clothing. My options are quite 'limited' - if you will - to... well to this," he motions to the clothes he's wearing, shrugging. "So if you happen to know where I can go to acquire a few more of such options, that would be fantastic."

Horatio Flynn |

Indeed Flynn, we must arrive at this island and see what there is before we know the full extent of the work before us. Still it wouldn't hurt to get supplies and a temporary plan at least.
Horatio nods thoughtfully.
”Well, the real issue is – as I see it – what type of supplies will we want… Still, the basic resources are the same, I suppose.”
”I have a few ideas, though…” he says slowly.
”First, based on what I can assume about the relative location of the island we’re sailing to – if it’s only 100 miles away then we should be able to reach it in no more than two and a half days (If we go by average overland ship speed at 48 miles a day). Meantime, I believe that Quent is only three to four days away… And, if my hunch is correct – and my geometry – then that should mean that Quent is roughly three days south of our island…”
”For now, I propose we send a dispatch to Quent from here, just before we leave. It should arrive there at roughly the 26th of Neth… Meantime, we make all haste to this island and we should get there by midday the 24th…”
”I don’t know what we’re going to deal with on the island, but I doubt highly we’ll need our ship to handle most of the nuances and trouble on the island.”
”Once we arrive then we - and by that I mean the officers - send our ship straight south to Quent while the we take use that same time to scout out the island."
"According to my calculations, our ship should arrive at Quent by the 28th at the latest, possibly sooner…”
”During that time – hopefully – our dispatch should have arrived at Quent.”
”Now, we know that Lady Fairwind is pretty well disposed to us… We also know that she offers us good value – better than other towns Roughly 10% cheaper on average, if I'm not mistaken - but even if I am, buying bulk should help reduce the price). So our dispatch should ask for as much mundane crafting supplies as we can hold on our ship and we also ask Quent’s Harbor Master to have it ready for pick-up when our ship arrives.”
”Hopefully the ship will be able to load up its hull to the full that very day, then turn back and head north to us and be back by no later than 1st of Kuthona…”
”That would leave us with roughly a week to get things settled on the island while our ship, which we shouldn't need to deal with stuff on land - is off picking up useful gear. Again, it's speculation, but if it's correct then we’d have the supplies to get things cooking being dropped off by the end of the same week after we arrived.”
”Of course, we’ll need basic supplies for ourselves on the island, but we should be able to handle roughing it for a week without having to be on our ship the whole time… But the advantage this plan has is that it will save maybe two weeks for us down the road.”
He pauses and takes a breath and then continues.
”Meanwhile, on this very day we send another dispatch to the place called Hell’s Harbor. According to the First Mate we picked up from that destroyed ship, her captain offered large donations to impoverished sailors living at Hell's Harbor; that tells me there's lads there looking for coin and work and who needed the support from that captain... Without the captain, they'll need money or work, and we can offer it to them."
"So if we send a dispatch there – and mention the name of the First Officer – and let any of them that have been receiving aid from her crew that we’re looking to hire new workers for a project to the west? They should have that news to mull over in less than a few days and - hopefully - it will get them pretty excited.”
”We let that circulate a bit to get the people excited… Then, by roughly the 1st or 2nd of Kuthona we’ve got our ship at the island and we’ve offloaded the bulk of the mundane gear. At that point we’ve figured out how many folk we’ll need – hopefully – and what sort.”
”We send someone like Dhavan, or anyone else handy at rustling up new folk – to Hell’s Harbor with only a skeleton crew to get there. It will take them a bit longer, but we’ll have half the lads with us on the island beginning work with the supplies we have – and once The Dread Lady gets to where it’s going, we see who wants to join up and put them to work on the ship to augment the low amount of numbers.”
”After that, we have the ship bounce over to Bag Island – and then to Quent – to pick up some extra trusties, as well as any specialty goods or gear we’ve determined that we need after dealing with the issues on the island – you know; magical gear, magic items, special tools, that sort of stuff… And then they push back north to the island.”
”As for the particulars of getting more Halfling folk? Hell yeah, that can easily be arranged; remember, I’ve got a bit of a reputation on Bag Island – we’ve freed slaves and many of the women and children went home and have told their folk about us. Those Halflings already know we’re reliable and willing to do right by them that come with us…”
He takes another deep breath and grins.
”Sorry for the long spiel – but I figured I’d try to put everything out there all at the same time.”
”If my hunches work we’ll have tons of supplies at bulk rates – we’ll have trusties in less two weeks ready to work – and the whole project, including getting supplies and people shouldn’t take us that long at all…”
”The only issue I can see at all is that while we’re on the island cleaning up the mess it will just be us officer types – we won’t have all the people like non-coms and regular sailors and mates around to support us… But hey, that’s less micro-managing (by that I mean, less micro-managing for the GM, but it works either way), so that might not be so bad, either,” he adds with a grin.
”So – that said; what do you think?”

[Nodding, "Thank you." Not a moment later, a thought comes to mind. "Actually, I could use direction on where to get a bit more clothing. My options are quite 'limited' - if you will - to... well to this," he motions to the clothes he's wearing, shrugging. "So if you happen to know where I can go to acquire a few more of such options, that would be fantastic."
Horatio turns an appraising eye over at Rajah.
"You're a bit smaller than I am, but until we get to a place to purchase goods, I can lend you some spare gear from my kit on the ship."
"It should fit you well enough, at least until we find a place for us to purchase things..."

Seijiro |

"I'm small, but I could lend you a kimono or two until we get to a port where we can shop for something in your size. They are loose fitting garments so would probably fit you, but Flynn's gear might be more suited to you. I will let you decide, or you can use both... His pants and a kimono or two for the top... whatever you decide, I'm sure we'll keep you covered and modest until we make port." Seijiro says with a grin.

"The Blue Rajah" |

Nope. No history for me.
Know: History(Aid another): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21 Oh man! If I just had a few ranks in there. Ah well.

Pondering the two offers, he can't help but grin. "Your offers are much appreciated. If necessary, I may very well combine the efforts of both, thank you."

Seijiro |

know history/bardic knowledge: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
is that enough with all the assists? I can't find the original post

Horatio Flynn |

As he waits for Variel’s response to his earlier suggestion, he overhears Rajah’s response to his and Jiro’s offer.
Pondering the two offers, he can't help but grin. "Your offers are much appreciated. If necessary, I may very well combine the efforts of both, thank you."
He grins solicitously but tugs on his beard thoughtfully.
”Boots and trousers and frockcoats and all that hash are easy enough to find, but I’m thinking that it’s hardly worth the sweat to fetch them,” he says slowly.
”The way I see it, you need is some real gear – some decent weapons, maybe a magical trinket or two to turn a blade or bullet… Hell, you did some damn good fighting during that last tango; but nothing wrong with a brace of pistols in your belt, or maybe you prefer something a bit more conventional?” he adds, his fingers tapping the pommel of his own rapier.
He glances at Jiro and Dhaavan.
”Jiro-san, you know plenty about goods and so on – and Dhaavan’s good at rustling up news and information… I don’t know much about this place, but I’m figuring that there has to be someplace to get him some decent stuff, at least more than just clothes?” he adds, curious to know what they think.
He turns back to study Rajah thoughtfully.
”That being the case, what’s your pleasure? You got any idea on what sort of more unique gear you’re interested in?”

@Jiro: It's Post #12908 and the check is DC 25. You have two successful assists so far, but you need one more to make the DC.

"As far as weapons, my own blade has served me quite well so I'm good there. Never used a firearm of any sort so probably best I avoid those. As far as anything unique," he shrugs, "I've never really thought about it. Honestly, I'm just looking for a bit of extra clothing."

Horatio waved his hand somewhat impatiently.
"A pox on that for an answer," he said sourly, but then grinned at Rajah to show he was not being wholly serious.
"The fact is that you fired that cannon alright, but it might have been better... Besides, I'd rather see you alive and whole - call it selfish, but you can't do much to lend a hand if you're dead."
"Still, if you're good with the gear you got - excepting the clothes - then who am I to protest? Don't worry much on that count, though. We'll see you dressed up fine and proper soon enough, I'd warrant," he adds, clapping him on the back.

Variel ponders Horatio's suggestions and has to give the man some credit for his time line. You have that all well thought out and. Seems like it would work. My biggest concern with that notion is leaving the ship unprotected as it is sent for supplies and settlers. If anything should happen at sea while we are on the island then we are stranded. This is where a sending or other such spells could be useful.
We may have to see if Dhaavan could teleport us via spells to destinations once we arrive at the island. Then we could visit ports and make purchases and still be back at the island for exploration and defense.
Who knows, maybe it is even possible that the 2 of you can do the recruiting while the rest of us head to the island. Then Dhaavan could scry one of us and teleport to our location. Once together then we sail back to ge the supplies and people we need. Then again we may find that nothing is needed on the island for repairs.

Seijiro |

thanks Rain! I scrolled back a long ways and just didn't spot it... anyone else want to roll an untrained history check dc 10 to see if you can aid? we just need one more

Seijiro |

"Thank you all for the reminders about the Ghol-Gan empire and helping me recall what little I know about them... They were ruled by a type of giants called cyclopses? cyclopi? cyclopes? Whatever .. . not sure how to say it, but you get the idea."

Horatio nods.
"Aye - that's something I had considered. But it'll have lads like Adular and Sandara on it, and I'd wager that the rest of the crew is trusty enough to pick up supplies without us for a few days," he adds.

Horatio ponders that for a moment.
"Well, I don't know much about teleportation spells and that sort of thing, but we are talking a distance of roughly 100 miles or so... That seems like a long way for one of those spells..."
"Still, if Dhaavan is able to do it - and willing - then I guess it could be worth doing."
"Meantime, sending a dispatch at least to the lads to let them know we're looking for good workers shouldn't hurt - and we could also send a message about picking up supplies... the only real issue is how long it will take to sail there."
"You still good for that; sending the messages but leaving the point of arrival a bit foggy - just to get a buzz going about our plans? Or would you prefer it to be a bit more "Hush-Hush"?" he asks.
Once I get the answer, I'll write up the dispatches and send them. See you later tonight!

DM Immortal |

Just a word of fair warning. Just because you know the distance, does not necessarily mean you know how long it will take. For instance, it may be 100 miles but that could be 100 miles straight with no issues or it could be 100 miles where you can only make 10 or 15 miles a day due to storms, currents, reefs that need to be navigated, islands, etc. That said you're not sure how long it will take to get there and definitely not sure how long it will take for your crew to go for supplies.

Horatio Flynn |

That said you're not sure how long it will take to get there and definitely not sure how long it will take for your crew to go for supplies.
Horatio offers Variel a somewhat disappointed shrug.
"Hey - thanks for the vote of confidence on the idea. It's nice knowing that someone thinks my ideas could work, even if they're a bit unconventional," he says with a wry smile.
"Anyhow, I appreciate that," then takes out a smoke and light it and thinks a moment his eyes on the horizon.
"The way I see it, we won't have to worry about the weather effecting our speed; we just survived a race through the worst storms in the whole of Golarion and came through aces and spades, no worries..."
"Nah... The real issue isn't weather, it's the fact that somewhere out there that basterd Harrigan is sailing around."
"If he's got a caster powerful enough to Summon a Fiendish Giant Turtle - and if he's connected enough to buy out that whoreson Master of Gales to look the other way when he cheated us in that race then we can believe he's got enough connections to at least Scry the location of our ship..."
He looks at Variel and sighs.
"I guess that means it'd be a good idea to keep the ship near to us. If he knew it we were on the island and our ship wasn't there..." he shakes his head and spits a fine stream of tobacco juice into the surf.
He watches the water for a moment, then brightens.
"Still, we'll need lads - the dispatch idea may still have its uses no matter how long it takes to get there..."
He continues to speak, somewhat eagerly as he considers things.
"Now, normally we're able to rustle up crew on account of our good reputation, right? Well, the same's got to be true of others... That said, what we try to put the hurt on Harrigan's reputation? Make it harder for him to get more of his poxing bully boys to fight us - maybe try to hurt his position with the others in The Shackles who count?"
"What do you say to that? You want to at least reach out to the lads at Hell's Harbor? They were hoping for a handout from that ship Harrigan sunk - how do you think they'd react to that whoreson if they knew Harrigan was the bugger that stole their free lunch?" he asks, curious to know what Variel would say to that.
"I mean, I already sent word to my lass Lady Fairwind at Quent - if we can't knife Harrigan directly we can at least make it harder for him to secure help later..." he adds, then looks at Variel, curious to know what the Elf might have to say at the idea.

Horatio Flynn |

Horatio cocks his head and watches Variel thoughtfully for a bit.
”Anyhow, just let me know what you’d like to do,” he says to the Elf.
He eyes wander over the group of folk on the beach, still enjoying their drink and their food.
It occurs to him that this place must surely have the resources to provide at least the basics on the island, and likely more.
He wanders over to Rajah.
”You did damn good in the fight and you helped out a lot,” he says to the man.
He takes from his side the satchel that carries his share of the prize money and counts out 4,000 gold pieces from the 16,000 of miscellaneous coin and other gems.
”You said you needed clothes, but likely other gear will be handy, too,” he says looking at the man before him and then beckons Amen-set over.
”I don’t know much about this place, but I’m willing to bet it’s got at least a decent place to buy goods and gear,” he adds.
He hands over the coin 4,000 coin to Rajah.
”You could have gone below decks, but you didn’t… You earned this at least when you fought and bled to help us and I’m appreciative of what you did.”
”Anyhow, when you go to buy the gear you need, just so you know - whatever the price they ask, don’t pay it. Let my girl Amen-set do the haggling… She’s got a knack for getting good rates.”
”I’m glad you’re sticking around and I’m glad to be sailing with you,” he says and offers Rajah his hand.

Variel lays a hand on Horatio shoulders hoping to keep the man calm. We do not know that Harrigan had anything to do with the events that just transpired. Yes we have reason to mistrust him but there is not proof. Until we actually have such proof it does us no good and ah harm us to accuse a pirate lord of such actions. Please for our sake put this vendetta on hold till we have the evidence in hand. Please do not go accusing the Master of Gales of being an accomplice or being paid to look the other way.
You have a fire in you that burns hot when you feel cheated or slighted. That can be a good thing but do not let it consume you either in its flame. Once we have tamed this island, I have married Rain, gain a. Seat on the council then we may have more of an opportunity to prove Harrigan false.
In the meantime, create and send what missives you wish to those that may join us on the island. Leal service for lands and a hope at a better life. Once at the island we will know more about what besets us and we can proceed accordingly.

Please for our sake put this vendetta on hold till we have the evidence in hand."
Horatio does what he can to keep calm, but he still remembers with clarity the assassins that Harrigan sent to kill him in the hold of the ship. He remembers being chained up and put in "the box" to languish on the Main Deck while Harrigan and Scourge and Plugg stood by and mocked him.
He knew in a court of law he'd have no case - but this was a matter of blood and in his experience Justice did often demand such such particulars as "hard evidence" when it came to revenge...
Alright, calm down, now... If you were alone that'd be one thing... but in this case listen to Nightstorm - your personal feelings might embroil the others in a fight that isn't of their choosing. Nightstorm's not telling you to let things go, he's just asking you to be a bit more patient, and cautious, and that's fair, so trust him and just be patient...
Please do not go accusing the Master of Gales of being an accomplice or being paid to look the other way.
Horatio opens his mouth to protest that - after all, the complete apathy that motivated the Master of Gales, the man charged with using powerful magic to witness their actions... For him to stand by and do nothing was more than enough proof to Horatio that the man was either an accomplice or incompetent. Still, this was no more than Nightstorm had already asked; be patient and be cautious... and with the lives of others to consider, that seemed more than reasonable.
You have a fire in you that burns hot when you feel cheated or slighted. That can be a good thing but do not let it consume you either in its flame. Once we have tamed this island, I have married Rain, gain a. Seat on the council then we may have more of an opportunity to prove Harrigan false.
Harrigan glanced at Variel and his frustrated look melted away into one of understanding.
Ahh... Then he already has a plan... Good, very good...
He gives Variel a smile and nods his head.
"Sounds good, then. And you're right; I can fly off the handle from time to time. I'll do what I can to keep that attitude stowed," he says sincerely.
In the meantime, create and send what missives you wish to those that may join us on the island. Leave service for lands and a hope at a better life. Once at the island we will know more about what besets us and we can proceed accordingly.
Horatio nods his head again.
"I'll take care of it. Oh, and no worries, I'll make sure to craft whatever letter I pen so it doesn't bite us in the ass later. It'll just be a friendly letter asking for help from them that're looking for work," he says with tip of his hand to his forelock.
He glances at the shore and the ship and studies it thoughtfully.
"Wherever we turn the tiller, I'm ready to sail by dawn - how about you?" he asks.

Lots of really good RP everyone! Give me an ooc post of any actions you want to take and then I can move on depending upon what you want to do.
