Ok, there's this: DM Dr Evil's CotCT Recruitment should you really feel the need to add one more game to your busy lives.

Aziza Plumbockett |

By the way folks, I just wanted to make it plain; although I've been making IG posts for Aziza using spoilers for Doc Evil, please do read those spoilers if you wish to (Unless the Doc says no). I only started doing it 'cos he did... :)

Barek Hisdren |

I'd love to consider a CotCT game, and I've got a Archeologist Bard who might work well, but a friend of mine just started up a Kingmaker game and I think I'm at my limit.
Let us know how recruitment goes though! I'll probably follow along if you guys get it going.

Thorn, Omen bringer |

Ok, I must have missed 5 healing somewhere. Thanks!
Aziza, I will read them once my character catches up to you, though you may do a wonderful job of nutshelling it that I won't need to. :)

you got a channel and a CLW.
go ahead and read the posts if you want; I just figured Z' would summarize IC, but this saves keystrokes, and you get to read my genius characterizations...
I just gotta say it takes all kinds to make a world, read the PM that i got re: Crimson Throne post:
Sup Doc,
You said no public submissions, so I'm sending a private one. However, first thing I have noticed are the red flags. I'll cover them now...
DM DoctorEvil wrote:
Hello friends!Character creation guidelines for this campaign:
1) 20 pt buy. No pre-modified less than 8 or more than 18, m'k?
2) Roll Starting wealth per PRD by class, but no more than 150GP regardless of role. You likely start poor and humble; that'll change over time...you'll be poor, humble, and dead!
Then why bother having the players roll then? Why are you against them having more than 150 GP?
And telling the player's they'll start poor and humble and later wind up that and dead isn't going to inspire any one to make throwaway characters for a GM who takes perverse pleasure in killing the PCs. No one likes to waste time and energy on something like that.
DM DoctorEvil wrote:
3) only stuff from CRB, APG, Ultimate Combat, Ult Magic and Ultimate Equipment. No sourcebooks or 3rd party stuff please. Just because you want it doesn't mean I have to give it you...
Understandable. Though shouldn't this be #1? That way no one will start complaining about making the ultimate summoner/monk that kill Elder Wyrm Red Dragons for lunch at level 1?DM DoctorEvil wrote:
4) Ideally 4-6 pc's. With these roles: 1 healer, 1 arcanist, 1 front line melee, 1 trap finder, 1 back up melee/ranged killer, 1 back up healer type. Please pick your roles yourselves. Don't make me come down there and sort this out.
5) Do you recall me saying I have a preference for core-only?
Do you recall people mentioning how much of a pain in the rear end you are? No? I am now. This also needs to be at the top, posted first, though you can add that the other Hard back books are allowed.
DM DoctorEvil wrote:
6) Traits: 1 normal, 1 campaign (found in free downlaod player's guide, link below)
7) Really need to read and understand the CotCT Player's Guide. This sourcebook has info on perception of races, classes, and themes of life in Old Korvosa. If you choose a Shoanti, prepare for a tough road etc. The book is free download PDF. Just do it!
Yeah, this needs to be second instead of down here. I don't know, seems it should be important enough if you are not only saying it but are going longwinded on it.
DM DoctorEvil wrote:
8) Backstory needs to give why you're in Korvosa and how you're tied to crime boss Gaedren Lamm. Campaign Trait is also tied to this. Have it make sense, ok.
9) I reserve the right to add new rules at seemingly random moments
I read this red flag two ways:
1) You are a pain in the rear for the players who come up with a good and lucky way to win, depending on how often it occurs. Not just min maxers or power gamers, but those who seem to get by and negate some tactics of yours. You won't like it and decide to try and rule it that it can't be done anymore. Not cool.
2) It also means double standards. Players can't do something, but you'll be damned if you can't get away with it. My recommendation: if a player can't do it, GM can't do it. GM wants to do it, then expect the players to try some variation of it.
DM DoctorEvil wrote:
10) be advised, this game may never actually start, inspire me.
Huge red flag, means you might get some excellent submissions, but a week into the game you'll leave it because you aren't "inspired" and you're bored. Sorry, but that is always a chance, especially with PBP RPGs. The fact you are saying it means you are flaky enough to do it and probably have a reputation of it.Despite those six red flags, I am going to apply if and when you go public, if you ever do. I have an idea of using either an Alchemist I am itching to play and an Oracle of battle who can use some fresh air again. Alchemist is a healer variant, a doctor seeking to help those who are too poor or unfamiliar with various sicknesses and such. Oracle seeks to stand against those who want to impose their will on everyone else when they aren't strong enough to keep the power.
I don't know your reputation. Don't care about it, either. But if your invitations get turned down, it's probably because the players saw your criteria and said nope, not going to waste my time.
I'm just throwing in my observations and concept.
Saronian
So poor me will have no players. Boo-hoo! Funny that you go great lengths to criticize a post that's not even meant for you, then apply anyway...If you want to see my response to this guy, lmk.

Aziza Plumbockett |

Hmm... I'll add that individual to my 'ignore because they are an opinionated fool'...
Personally I'd love to see your response; I'm actually tempted to taunt them myself.

So first you're calling me a pain in the rear, then flaky, all the while insinuating I don't know how to write a post, then you apply anyway (even though the post says "private".) Interesting....you sound fun....
Unknown to you, I already know all the players who will likely participate in this game, and they understand that my instructions are laced with snark, satire and feeble attempts at humor. They also play in games I currently run and understand the parameters pretty well (I'm actually giving them quite a bit more freedom than in other games). I am considering starting this campaign at their request, I may find I don't have the time/resources to run it, but they want to give it a go anyway. Hence some of the red-flags you brought to my attention.
If the game had been for public, the rules post would've been a little different (but not much).
I think we'll fill up with private players, but if not, I'll drop you a line. Your advice is worth a little more than I paid for it :)
I took it pretty easy on the poor guy.

Twigs |

Bahaha, oh lordy. The nerve of that guy! A great long complaint followed with "Now that I've demonstrated my mental superiority I'd like to play an Alchemist, pretty please?"
As for myself, I'm sitting on a few ideas. I want to be sure I can commit to it if it does get off the ground, because I have a nasty habit of committing to games/GMing in my uni breaks and being totally unable to keep it up once class starts back. That said, I accidentally made a whole statblock (sue me), so give me a few days to fall in love with it and I might sign up. In the meantime consider me on the fence, I guess. (Also holy jesus Aziza don't ask why I'm up at this hour)

DM DoctorEvil |

All: Tomorrow starts my summer vacation. I will be traveling a good portion of the day and will spend most of next week sitting on a beach where the internet signal is suspect. As such, my posting may be slow or possibly non-existent. I will resume normal activity on 7/6 or so when I get back to civilization, back home on 7/8.
Thanks for understanding. Don't go anywhere in the meantime. Will get some posts in tomorrow while doing airport time...

LOL, wow, seriously!? On all counts I concur about that dude. Why would he even apply after ctizicising the DM? If that dude joined on of my games he would die quickly, either from the players killing him or my special purple lightning.
OH, Oh, I have an idea, bring him in and he will be our first encounter to kill. He walks into the cave before the rest of us, then we go in... He, he, he, he...
Sorry guys I am a little sleep deprived and thus this way! :P

Thorn, Omen bringer |

Next victi... I mean villager, oh wait that aint good either. Then again we just need to defeat them, non lethal damage. Rahhhhh! LOL!

DM DoctorEvil |

When I get back from vacation I'll spend a little more time preparing and staffing the CotCT thread and see if we want to make a go of it.
So far I have:
Dax - Crux (arcane)
Wolf - Graxton (divine)
Aziza - Sly (traps etc)
This leaves front line melee, ranged killer, and back up healer type still open.
I believe Barek declined and Mirela and Twigs were still considering. Make a decision and post up a player and I'll take any openings to the Group B thread for final spots.
No pressure to play, and it still may not get started depending on my RL time commitments.

Twigs |

I'm sitting on a few fighters (a dwarven thug, a high-born duelist and a shoanti savage) but I'm fairly certain I have enough PbP games on my plate. If you want a straight answer I'll pass, I wouldn't want to deny anyone more deserving a spot.
Otherwise it's back to silent indecision for me.

Twigs |

I think I sidelined myself a little soon! Seldon has nothing to do but twiddle his thumbs and wait... I thought running a game would keep me out for most of the day, but I've done all the bookwork and started prep for Sunday, and covered what we've done in two months of PbP in one session (and I could've easily finished part 2 as well, I feel like I wrapped things up a little early).
Everything went swimmingly, but I'm kicking myself for not including the little Barret cameo. Nobody went for the goblin toss and I didn't squeeze it in to the archery thing as my backup plan. Also the goblin song is much more horrific in person. I don't need to TPK my party to have them beg for mercy...

Aziza Plumbockett |

Miri and Aziza, I had spoken that in Dwarven to Tunder. Plus it was a tactic on a beast, let alone you would not know what Thorn had said. I guess I need to spoiler it in the future.
Yup, I missed that it was said in dwarven, which Aziza doesn't speak. As for it being a ruse on Thorn's part, it's unlikely a goblin would understand dwarven either.
My bad. It's hard to catch everything when you log on and find half-a-dozen or more posts since you last posted, try to quickly catch up on them, then post yourself in the time you have available. Which I'm sure you're aware of. No harm, no foul however I think; Aziza isn't going to be worrying about it by lunchtime...

Mirela Malvo |

My bad, sorry about that Thorn... I missed the dwarven language part in my original post. You're right that the girls wouldn't have understood what was being said.
In any event, as Aziza said - no harm, no foul. Honestly, Mirela's reaction was an in-character response, I personally don't give a rats a$$ what we do with the goblins (flay 'em, roast 'em, kill 'em, who cares). Moreover, Miri is just an emotional hothead with a short attention span, and she'll likely have forgotten about the goblins by lunch ;)

Aziza Plumbockett |

This brings your cumulative total to 1039 or about 80% of what's required to attain Level 2. Guess you should start considering character choices for that plateau.
Somehow I only get a total of 971xp from my tally in Aziza'a Hero Lab portfolio. Are you happy for me to just bring the total up to 1039xp, Doc? I may just have mis-entered the totals into her journal.
I am still seriously considering taking a level of Bard for Aziza for second level, but with the Archaeologist template. It would definitely suit her character, and the Archaeologist's Luck special ability could come in handy, givers her a few more 1st level spells which she wouldn't otherwise get, but she would have no bardic performance abilities.
An alternative is to take the Archivist archetype instead, which does retain some of the bardic performance abilities.
It would also mean that her access to higher level spells as a sorceress would be delayed, which has implications for her role of arcane spellcaster in the group. Second level of sorcerer only improves her spells per day by 1 X 1st (to 5 per day), but she only gains a single 0 level cantrip. However if I take Bard at second level, I then have to take 2nd-level sorcerer at third level...
Gah! Can't I just take her straight to 20th level mad-genius so that she can start her radioactive, killer-mutant wasp breeding programs now? Oh wait, I'd probably need Alchemist levels for that, and I hate Alchemists...

DM DoctorEvil |

Looks to me like you missed the 68 xp related to The Desecrated Vault scene and the skeletons.
It seems there is an unwritten rule around the boards about not taking multiclass with arcane casters as it delays the mega power they become later, but it's your creation; make it what you want.
I'm sure the group would think either a 2nd sorceror level or a bard level would be beneficial. Either makes sense to me.
Ultimately, it's your call. Choices choices...

Twigs |

The bard level will be nice, but it simply won't scale until the later levels. Can you get what skills you want with your sorcerer skill points? My rule with bard is no multiclass at 7th (when inspire courage is good enough to hold its own), or not at all. The latter is most times the smarter option, but who can resist the siren call of the Arcane Archer? Not me.
I know second level is the least exciting sorcerer level ever (one more cantrip, hooray!) but you have to take it at some point! Just think of the extra spells/day. Perhaps we'll get a chance to buy/loot some scrolls, as well. That would give you a pile of extra spells to sling around. Second level also means dipping into all of the rest of your class skills for one rank, or at least that's what Seldon will be doing. My current plan is to nab diplomacy, sense motive, appraise and two more knowledges (probably planes and arcana, I'll leave history and spellcraft to shorter and more intelligent party members, but no elf can resist a chance to be a know it all

Thorn, Omen bringer |

I have a feeling that I could take up a level in ranger, or should I continue in fighter?

Aziza Plumbockett |

Hmm, I'm still tempted to take a level of bard now. However what Twigs says is true; second level sorcerer really does suck, but it has to be taken to get to level three. :p
@ Mirela; were you considering taking any bard levels? If so, I'll stick with straight-out sorcerer, and bard would suit multiclassing more with your rogue/acrobat anyway.

Thorn, Omen bringer |

Nope, forgot we had a ranger already, sorry Tunder, I was spacing it. I will be going straight fighter.

Mirela Malvo |

I hadn't considered taking any classes in Bard, though I suppose it's a possibility. Really, I kinda have Mirela mapped out all the way to level 7 in terms of feats, and what I was originally intending on was going strictly Rogue.
Mostly I'm going to build Mirela to be super maneuverable and fairly deadly in combat (that means ideally no multi-classing to keep her sneak attack at its best possible strength). I'll be going for the following feats: Mobility, Two-Weapon Fighting and Spring Attack, as well as Fast Sneak for a Rogue Talent and probably a skill focus feat in Acrobatics. By level 6, Mirela will be a hit-n-run ace :)

Thorn, Omen bringer |

Well I know, Thorn won't be doing any recruiting, I am going to spend a point in Diplomacy when I level. It has been a shame with a negative on his Charisma.
Miri, two-weapon fighting does not support that build, though it would come in handy if flanking, double sneak! :)

![]() |

Nope, forgot we had a ranger already, sorry Tunder, I was spacing it. I will be going straight fighter.
Thorn, I took no offense. Tunder is going ranger all the way out. He'll be a switch hitter with the crossbow combat style. For favorite enemies he has goblins and will take giants and dragons as his next two.
Miri, two-weapon fighting does not support that build, though it would come in handy if flanking, double sneak! :)
That's why she has Mobility/Spring Attack. She gets into position in one round then unleashes the fury in the next round.

Thorn, Omen bringer |

I am planning on being a Two-Handed Fighter, to bring my blade to excellent levels of damage. :P
The changes begin at level 2. Ah shucks, no bravery, but more damage. Muahahahhaha!

Mirela Malvo |

That's why she has Mobility/Spring Attack. She gets into position in one round then unleashes the fury in the next round.
You got it, that's pretty much exactly what I had in mind. I'm taking two-weapon fighting to open up more opportunities for sneak attack damage; otherwise it'll be a combination of mobility, stealth and acrobatic feats and skills for her build.

Barek Hisdren |

My family lands today and will be with us for a week. I'll try to do a short post at some point, but realistically, I could be out for the entire week. Please run Barek as you see fit.

Thorn, Omen bringer |

Sorry guys, I have been real busy, I picked up another shift just for yesterday (Saturday) kinda spur of the moment, though I don't work part of this next week.
Though it looks like a lot of us have been out in one way or another.

Twigs |

Google documents won't let me view the map, btw. Sent you a request for access, Doc.
"Um, I don't think announcing our presence is a good idea, Thorn. Let's just try the doors and see if any of them are unlocked. Unless... Miri, I don't want to suggest anything untoward about you and your kin, but you wouldn't happen to know anything about locks, would you?"
I had pretty much the exact same awkward, vaguely prejudiced post in mind for Seldon, but you beat me to the punch!
Serves me right for sleeping in, eh? :p

I'm not prejudiced, Twigs; I patronize everyone equally... :)

Aziza Plumbockett |

A thought; is the Mage hand cantrip usable through transparent glass, like the panes of a window? If so, then Aziza might be able to move aside the curtains blocking the interior view of the Glassworks.

Thorn, Omen bringer |

Family reunion this weekend, starting today, Friday until Sunday. I will likely not have internet, so if you don't see me post you know where I am.
If needed just bot me, Elven Great Sword with height bonus! :)

Ok, good luck with your move. I have very little idea how far it is from Texas to Tennessee (I'll have to look it up on Google Earth), but I know that having to move house is a frustrating and tiring business no matter how far you have to go.
So take it easy, try not to murder the kids, the removalists, your old neighbours, your new neighbours, the real estate agents, your pets, everyone else on the roads, your spouse, that guy in third grade who stole your lunch money, Winnie the Pooh, the babysitter... you get the idea.
If things go badly, you can always log on and murder us instead!
Hang on... no! Forget I said that...
