I am making the Discussion thread for this game so I can give you info on who your mentors are and a little on the town you grew up in.

I would like you to discuss among yourselves how well do you know each other and how well do you get along? You all know each other at least casually as it is a town of only 750 people.

Also does everyone want to use hero points? I am falimlar with the idea but I have never used them.

I am concerned about the Mad Dog Barbarian. He looks powerful enough to overshadow the rest of the party. I would like everyone to weigh in on this as I said I am doing this game to learn.

Male Slayer 8| AC 22 T 17 FF 16 | HP 73 | F +9 R +10 W +5 | Init +3 | Perc +11

Well Nalun was born and raised in Kassen's Hold. He however is a bookworm and has stayed clear of any of the more "rough and tumble" youths. His main goal in completing this quest is to gain stature with some of the more "popular" kids.
Think Ronald Weasely minus the magical incompetence.
[ooc] I haven't spent any of my starting gold, could I convert some of it into scribed scrolls?[/ooc

I do not have a problem with you using your gold for scrolls. You just snagged them from Holgast while he was sleeping. (you still need to pay for them)

Also to everyone else I forgot to tell you that the town will provide you with some simple adventuring gear for this quest so you do not have to spend your gold on adventuring kits. I will tell you that the kits are a lot more inclusive then the free stuff you will get.

Nalun here is the info on your mentor.

Holgast (male human wizard)
On the eastern edge of town is a single tower, leaning slightly to the south, made of bricks and timber. This is the home of Holgast, the town's local sage and mystic. Although Holgast is very knowledgable, he is old and quite forgetful, meaning that the townsfolk (the mayor in particular) only consult him if the need is truly great. Holgast spends most of his days wandering about his tower, reading books, smoking his pipe, and taking naps. Once a week, he wanders into town to purchase supplies and provisions with his seemingly inexhaustible reserve of perfect golden coins, which he claims came from and immense hoard some years ago. Holgast makes for a frustrating mentor. His lessons are erratic and old fashioned. His apprentices are required to do all manner of chores for the privilege of learning from him, while he sleeps the day away and teaches very little. Those who have learned anything from him have done so by sneaking into the wizard's spellbooks while he is napping.

Digger, how would you feel about playing sisters? I would be somewhat the opposite of your character. Soft-spoken and unsure, not as physically capable, but still full of potential.

Male Human Druid 1 0/0 XP 19/19 HP 1 Armor

Mark had a troubled, angry childhood, inwardly blaming himself for his father leaving the family and town to strike it rich. Maggie, however, was raised among circus performers, and is thus very friendly and comfortable with people, like a big pussycat. As Mark became a teenager, his mentor (whoever you decide that to be, Dave) began teaching him how to be a man, like his father never could. Mark will be very attached to whomever becomes his "father figure" and will strive in all things to impress, because inside, he's desperately afraid of disappointing people and being abandoned.

I imagine Maggie would be popular among the other kids; Mark himself kind of shuffles his feet awkwardly and mumbles when kids talk to him, but he's working on making himself more comfortable with people, with Maggie's help and insistence. Mark's very protective of women after seeing his mother crying secretly to herself so much when he was growing up.

Here is the info on your mentor Mark

Braggar Ironhame (Male Dwarf Barbarian/Blacksmith)

Braggar is one of the two blacksmiths that service Kassen. This dour dwarf runs a small business on the south side of town. Although he is outpaced by his competitor (Renet's Steel, near the town square), Braggar's goods are of higher quality. Braggar is a surly mentor, capable of incredible fits of anger if one of his pieces is not turning out as planned. As such, he often has to spend time repairing his workshop, which only further slows down his work. Braggar's teaching style focuses of craft and artifice, but he can also teach pupils about controlling their anger and unleashing it when the time is right.

Male Human Druid 1 0/0 XP 19/19 HP 1 Armor

Nice. I like it. Maggie doesn't like the fumes of the blacksmith's shop, so Mark doesn't feel that being a blacksmith is his destiny; but he appreciates Braggar taking him under his wing and helping his mother with minor repairs and handyman work around the house from time to time, so he strives to impress him and help out around the shop whatever way he can. Usually, this consists of fetching and hauling, and Maggie likes to help out by carrying enormous bars of steel in her powerful jaws and walking alongside Mark.

*edit* Actually, never mind. I'm just going to switch Skilled for Heart of the Fields, giving me a racial bonus on a Craft skill of my choice (armorsmithing!) and allowing me to ignore the effects of fatigue once a day, which means I won't be fatigued after my first rage of the day! I'll miss the extra skill point per level but meh.

Yorn here is the info on your Mentor.
(By the way I could not write this stuff to be more perfect for the characters you chose haha)

Jimes"Short Change"Iggins (male Halfling Rogue)
(Thats right the 6'6" half orc has a halfling mentor lol)

Those who frequent the seven silvers tavern know to count their coins before they leave the table, especially if they have been served by "Short Change", the halfling waiter who has a propensity for giving less change than is due (although he insists the name is due to his short stature). Although Jimes is genuinely kind and helpful to all the locals, he just can't help but end up with some of their possessions at the end of the night, be it a few coins or a loose dagger. Most of the townsfolk are quite aware of this and do not take too much offense if something goes missing. After all, they know where the missing goods went. Anyone who works with Jimes at the Seven Silvers is sure to get a host of tips and tricks from this good-natured thief, who thinks that a little petty theft is all in good fun. Jimes takes the role of mentor in this same carefree mannor.

Baral Dorda here is your mentor info.

Ilimara Oniri (Female Human Monk)

While most of the people in Kassen were born and raised within 10 miles of town, Ilimara was born in Qadira a town with a name most of the humble folk of Kassen could not even pronounce. Not suprisingly, this beautiful and exotic woman keeps to herself. She has lived on the outskirts of town for almost 8 years now, claiming that she is trying to find peace in her heart. Ilimara has had a number of acolytes over the years, each hoping to learn the secrets of Irori that Ilimara clams to practice, but so far, all have abandoned her tutelage for a simpler road. Anyone who learns from her, however, quickly uncovers that there is a darkness hiding in Ilimara, and only those with an iron will can bear to be around it.

Baral and Ilimara would probably have a lot in common both not being from Kassen. Baral is finishing his training under Ilimara for what ever reason brought him to Kassen.

Lillian Lark here is your mentor info:

Olmira Treesong (Female human druid)

Druids are not an uncommon sight in Nirmathas, but Olmira draws stares even in the streets of Kassen. This middle-aged woman only wears clothing made from natural materials(such as bark, leaves, and grass) and is always accompanied by a host of small woodland creatures. She talks to herself and her retinue constantly, having full conversations despite the fact that no one seems to answer her. Over the years, Olmira has had a number of apprentices who have gone on to become successful druids. Those who learn from her are sent on all manner of esoteric missions, such as listening to the wind for a week, planting new seeds throughout town, and mimicking local animals.

Digger here is your mentor info, whatever your characters name will be.

Guard Captain Gregor Wisslo (Male Human Fighter)

The town of Kassen has never truly known the horrors of the war with Molthune, but occasional rading parties from Belkzen do sometimes pose a threat. As such, the town has been watched over for many years by Wisslo, who serves as guard captain. Gregor is a staunch man who believes in schedules and regiment over ingenuity and spontaneity, much to the chagrin of the town's residents. As an aging fighter, Gregor is a qualified teacher, but his lessons are rigid and his discipline harsh. The guards he has trained are quite skilled, but they secretly detest the old man, calling him names behind his back(Captain Is-Slow is the current favorite).

Last but not least...

Geriatric here is your mentor info.

Father Rantal Prasst (male human cleric of Erastil)

The small town of Kassen has only one temple and it is devoted primarily to Erastil, but Father Prasst allows those who worship other friendly gods to pray at the temple as well. While Father Prasst does not offer services in the names of these deities, there are small shrines to other gods set up in some of the alcoves, including Gozreh, Gorum, Shelyn, and Torag. Father Prasst is a kind and understanding man, but he is hard when it comes to the defense of the community. He is quite young, only 24, and many in the community do not put too much faith in his council, except in spiritual matters. He was trained as a soldier in Tamran, but he left after his first battle to become a priest, and refuses to say why.

As you certanly had questions about the changes that were hapening to you you went to the town cleric. He was very understanding and offered to help in any way he could.

Excellent! Great to see a ton of posting activity from the DM. I'm excited for this to start!

Mark, I feel like Lillian would be friends with you. Despite her druidic focus on controlling the elements of nature rather than appreciating and using animals to do her bidding, she would appreciate the relationship you have with Maggie.

Mark Talbot wrote:

Yea...I check the threads almost compulsively, and it is a slow day at work.

Also I have put info on the town in the description tab check it out.

Lillian struggles with the eccentricities of her mentor, Olmira Treesong, every day. It is clear to Lillian that her mentor prefers to be one with nature (she would not be the list bit surprised to find out Olmira aspires to be a tree or shrubbery of some sort).

Lillian is the fundamental opposite. She is in awe of the godly fury of nature and yet brought to her knees weeping at the beauty and peace that falls upon the land when the storm passes. Nature is something to be revered and respected.

As a child, Lillian watched in terrifying awe as a tornado demolished her family home. Such fury she felt towards nature watching that. What kind of cold, uncaring force would bring destruction down upon innocents in such a way? And then it happened. The storm passed, and over her house appeared the brightest, most vivid rainbow she had ever seen. Even to this day. As quickly as the fury arose within her it subsided and was replaced with reverence. Lily knew that day that she would learn to control nature, to master it. She realized that as much as nature could be a force of destruction, it could be a force for creation and healing and good.

So despite her eccentricities, Lily realizes that she needs Olmira to teach her and show her. Plus, she is one of the only druids regularly about town. There is no one else to teach her anyway.

Sounds good what is your relation ship to the rest of the party?

Female Human Oracle 1

Hey Guys,

Geriatric here. I'm working up my character right now. A young Oracle of Wind. I'm hoping Digger will post soon, so I can see if being his sister would be okay.

Name will change to Kira once I have a last name established (just "Kira", is currently unavailable).

(he may already have a last name for his char, and I don't want to step on that, I'm flexible.

As soon as we get some more info about who knows who we will get started.

So far we got: (and correct me if I am wrong im just tring to put it in a nutshell for everyone.)

Mark, the sullen boy prone to fits of rage and has a huge pet cat that is as outgoing as its master is inverted.

Lillian, the Girl who is a little embarrassed to be seen with her master but needs the training. She also is impressed with the young man that has a pet tiger.

Nalun, the bookworm nerdy wizard who is good at what he does but is socially awkward because of his focus. Because of this he is hoping to show that his mastery of magic is very cool. Maybe then he will fit in.

I don’t know much about Yorn other then he is big.

I don’t know much about Baral Dorda other then he is not from Kassen.

The popular hot girl who always gets her way?

Kira, the oracle that is the more subdued less popular sister of the popular girl that is going through some sort of weird change on top of it all.

I'd like to be friends with Mark. I can see myself being friends with Kira. I'm not real familiar with oracles, but an oracle of the wind definitely sounds up my alley. We'll see how she turns out.

I don't see myself being enemies with anyone. Lily is pretty even-keeled that way.

Female Human Oracle 1

Working on spells. Are our spell lists limited to Core rulebook, or can we access Paizo published materials i.e. ultimate magic/ Advanced player's guide?

Grand Lodge

M Half-orc Rogue 4 HP: 35/35 AC: 17, F:3 R:5 W:1 CMD: 19 Perc:+6 Init:3

Okay, I've tried doing this twice already and the Paizo site keeps lagging out and losing my info. Let's try this again.

As a six and a half foot half-orc, Yorn sticks out. Usually this is a bad thing as a rogue but Yorn makes it work. Stealthy when he needs to be, strong as an ox when that fails, Yorn prefers subtle but is just as happy with plowing ahead if need be. Most of the time, Yorn seems to forget that he's a half-orc and it is easy for those who know him to forget his lineage as well. However, when Yorn loses his temper, his ancestry becomes clear...and usually really loud.

His easy-going nature comes to an abrupt end if someone hassles his mentor Jimes. Jimes saw that due to his size and strength, Yorn was destined to toil away in the fields toting bales of hay. Jimes saw more in the boy and took him under his wing, teaching the brute the art of subtlety without denying the usefulness of Yorn's powerful build. Yorn inherited Jimes lax sense of law and legality and is not above occasionally pilfering what he needs from those who have it to spare.

Yorn considers himself human for the most part but is not ashamed of his Orcish ancestry. He revels in physical activity and occasionally enjoys the ability to scare the hell out of people who deserve it with a growl or an angry stare. He vacillates on whether or not he wants to meet an actual orc or not since he hasn't yet. He is proud of his mother who survived her brutal encounter with an Orc many years before and gave her Yorn.

Yorn has no quarrel with any of his peers but seems especially fond of Nalun as Jimes long ago taught Yorn the value of knowledge and no one near his own age seems as knowledgeable as Nalun.

Male Slayer 8| AC 22 T 17 FF 16 | HP 73 | F +9 R +10 W +5 | Init +3 | Perc +11

Nalun is probably looks to Yorn as a "security blanket". Their relationship seems to be one of symbiosis, Nalun wants to be popular and have lots of friends, Yorn wants Nalun's answers. Reminds me of movie tropes where the "wise guy" is friends with the "nerd"

Nalun likes his arrangement with Holgast. The old guy doesn't ask too much and leaves Nalun alone with those glorious books for hours and hours. Nalun couldn't ask for more, except maybe a girlfriend. But those can be summoned right? Didn't he read that in a book somewhere?

Male Human Druid 1 0/0 XP 19/19 HP 1 Armor

Mark feels scorn for Nalun and the wizard arts, but in reality it is simply a transplant of emotions that his farther taught him before he left. The dwarf mentor has been teaching Mark to be more respectful of nerds, and so Mark approached the problem of how to make nice with the apprentice the same way he approached all social situations - use Maggie.

M Human (multi-ethnic) Rogue Charlatan 6

Wooohoo! I'm excited! @Geriatric, I think sisters would be good. She'd probably be too cruel otherwise, heh.

As for our mentors, can we create a deeper relationship? Like could Wisso be our father? If not, no big deal. She's conniving enough to be spontaneous when he's not around, heh. Time to build the alias!

Female Human Oracle 1

(very long winded sorry)

Being the youngest of 3 girls had its perks when it came to dealing with mother and father, sure, but with her sisters....that was a different story.

Kierra knew she would never be as smart as Nisha, the oldest, and she was much more frail than Shalee, the middle of the three. While she inherited much of her mother's graceful looks, she was also the least comely of the trio.

Prone to awkwardness and often fumbling the simplest of tasks, Kierra was a regular recipient of jokes that while given in jest, were often still humiliating.

Normally Soft-spoken and rather reserved, Kierra has a gentle warmth in her interactions with others, but despite this tender nature, she has not developed many long-standing relationships with other young people in town.

Often flitting from one activity to the next, (and often neglecting her work) Kierra has come to realize how much she loves being outisde of the town. Running through fields and forests, dancing over boulders and splashing through streams, is where Kierra found her freedom.

Days after her 16th birthday on a bright afternoon, Kierra escaped her work at home and went on another "adventure". The sun beat down on her slender shoulders, and her silken hair was blowing with the wind. As she stood there overlooking her community from a distant hilltop, it all changed.

A sudden cloud blocked out the glowing sun, and winds began to swirl, and howl around her. As the cloud descended towards her she could see, standing within the cloud a weathered old man, his proud white beard nearly reaching his knees. Once he was in front of her, everything seemed to stop, her hair floated in the air, leaves seemed to stop mid-air. The Old Man reached out and gently caressed the girl's head, his touch like the first warm winds of spring, and Kierra collapsed.

When she awoke, her sister Shalee was there. As she began to try and explain why she was out here alone, her sister became more and more frustrated. "Why do you always do this! Why can't you for once, just do what you're told!".

Unable to hold back her own frustration, Kierra shouted back. But what came out was nothing she had ever heard before. It sounded so foreign!

Shalee, confused and angry tried to restrain her sister, and grabbed Kierra by the arms. In that instant, all of Kierra's anger flashed through her body into her arm and down her hand. Shalee was shocked, and thrown back from her sister.

Kierra, immediately attempted to attend to her sister, but she was inexperienced, and did not know how to awaken her. Tears began streaming down her cheeks. Then she ran. She ran faster than she had ever run before. Kierra got back to town, and screaming she ran into the Temple of Erastil to find Father Rantal Prasst.

The rest of the evening was a whirlwind in the community. Kierra led the Cleric to her sister, and was followed soon by her parents.

Her sister was healed, it took time, but Kierra was there every day making sure nothing was needed. It was during this time, that she grew close to Father Prasst. They had many discussions about her "Revelation", and she grew to respect him, immensely.

Since that day, Kierra has continued to form and shape her abilities. She grows more powerful and has even begun to manage some of the divine spellcasting that Father Prasst has revealed to her.

so a couple of caveats to that post:

1. I don't know if there is a specific age that we should be.

2. Names will probably be changed, depending on Digger's approval.

Digger, I wasn't sure if you'd be okay with the idea of being sisters, so I wrote that up without it.

If you are okay with it, I was thinking your PC would replace "Shalee" in this story. Giving us a little bit more of a hook to play with.

(Edit: I tried to be intentionally vague on your character. This is just one shared experience we can use. If you aren't okay with it that's fine. We can also rename (or cut) our third sister if you'd like.)

Also, if you have a last name in mind I haven't set one yet for that reason.

M Human (multi-ethnic) Rogue Charlatan 6

Sure, works for me. Hell, I'll use "Shalee" even. I hate coming up with names!

Kierra wrote:

Na just use what you want just be prepared to explain or link it. Same for you Nalun

M Human (multi-ethnic) Rogue Charlatan 6

Decided against even wondering if the guard guy could be my girls' dad ...because then he'd be mentorish to my sis, too, and it'd be weird. So never mind on that question!

Female Human Oracle 1

Lol! Sounds good Digger!

Gm, feel free to look over my character profile for errors. Secondly, I did purchase some equipment (not much though), and I have gold cost and weight totals calculated. It isn't in my profile, but I can provide it tomorrow morning if you would like.

Will you be tracking encumbrance, food and water consumption things like that?

Female Human Oracle 1

He could still be your mentor, I don't have the physical prowess that you have, sister, so I could see him imparting those skills on to you while finding...other "diversions" for me.

Up to GM obviously, but I don't want to be the limiting factor here. That could also play as a source of envy/resentment for my otherwise cheerful character.

F Human Fighter 4

OK, time to fill in the rest.

Digger Chandler wrote:

Do what you want man. You had one of the weakest mentors IMO

F Human Fighter 4

OK, stat block and such updated in this profile.

So I see Shalee as the middle child, but not the typical one. The first sister was the smart one and, well, frankly, their parents weren't sure what to do with that. When the second girl came out extroverted and charming, a lot of that "first daughter" love went to her unintentionally.
Shalee notices this as she grows older, and often feels guilty about her older sister, who's actually pretty happy being left alone. This guilt gets transferred to her "hapless and hopeless" little sister, head in the clouds, always wandering off. So she's a mix of protective and dismissive. Her recent changes have set Shalee aback. She's not sure how to deal with her weird sister getting way weirder all the time. But if anyone else says anything about it, she'll beat them until they cry uncle. Twice.

Growing up, she was always "the pretty one" wherever she went. Sure, her younger sister was perhaps more of a classic beauty, but Shalee seemed to instinctively know how to play with and use her appearance. She also was bright enough to notice that people who did more physical work tended to have better-looking physiques that lasted longer. So she's been exercising and trying to live right. Eventually one of her favorite exercises (involving a wooden longsword) caught Gregor Wisslo's eye. She had seen his guards grumble through a simple sword maneuver and had not only done it better than them, but had added a flourish or two.

The two butt heads, one stodgy and the other free-spirited, but there is a deep mutual respect. If townspeople have frowned on the captain of the guard spending so much time with a young maid, they haven't let on much. Yet, at least.

Whew. I'd hate to have to give my little sister torment for being the one who'd say to the teacher "You forgot to give us homework!"

I wonder if our brainy sister knows of Nalun. Hmmmm.

Female Human Oracle 1

She probably does Shalee, but there's no way she's seen fit to talk to him for any length of time!

GM: I'm glad we arent worrying about encumbrance etc...

F Human Fighter 4

Hmmmmm. I can see li'l sis the oracle having a vision and "needing" to investigate the Crypts ...Shalee won't let her go alone and gets some of the toughest kids she knows to accompany ...along with her new, tailored suit of armor that she just adores.

F Human Fighter 4

"Mark, you have a f+&&ing TIGER, man! That's crazy! You should DEFINITELY come with us. And Yorn! You are huge but so sneaky! I bet you could find and disable any kind of stupid old trap. And I guess bring your nerdy friend. In case there's any puzzles or that kind of crap."

A few things.

First I asked for no story and you guy each wrote awesome interesting 3 dimensional characters!

I'm only glancing at your characters stats. I trust you guys to school yourselves. If you say you get a +6 I'm mostly gonna trust you.

If you are caught cheating you are a looser and I will ask you to leave our game.

I am hoping to see a post from our monk, but I will start gameplay tomorrow if that happens or not. I will npc him until he has more time to post.

As a rule if I have 6 of 7 people's input I will npc the 7 th poster to keep the game going. I will try to give you plenty of time but if it is a minor event we move on, major events I will wait.

Hero points yes or no?

Shalee can have a vision if she wants but you 7 have been chosen for this quest.

Female Human Oracle 1

I have never used hero points. I'd be interested in trying them, but I really have no preference either way.

F Human Fighter 4

I'm into hero points (as long as everyone reminds me of them, heh).
