Tolenn |
Re-loading Tolenn is alarmed to see that Pyron still stuggles below. She allows for the others to clamber down then targets the last spider she struck.
Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Damage 1d8 ⇒ 7
Pyron Firehide |
Pyron will cast cure light wounds on himself. Gain HP: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Pyron Firehide |
Once he has escaped the webs, then he will heal himself.
Wednesday Daud |
Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
A string of curses and mumbles escapes his lips as he pulls his scrapped together sword (Steel Terbutje) off his back and takes a swing at the eight legged annoyance.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Round 4 Initiative: Spider 1, Gaius, Vuk, Tolenn, Daud, Pyron
DM Crispy |
The spider rears up as Daud swings, avoiding the blow, then lunges forward to take another tasty bite out of our hero!
Spider Bite Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
The spider is able to get a hold of Daud again, but this time is stopped by the hide armor he wears, poison spewing out over the protective gear.
Pyron Firehide |
fort save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Yes on the cure light.
Gaius Tindareus |
Hey Daud, tell Vuk not to bite my head off and I'll bring him down!
I'll delay until after the others but before Spider 1's turn comes again. Daud, have you checked out the different tricks you can teach an animal under the Handle Animal skill? As a Huntmaster you can command Vuk as a free action and you can have him attack (takes 2 tricks to have him attack anything, otherwise it's limited to certain creature types), heel, guard, etc. Vuk can have I believe 7 tricks. If you command him to "defend" me, he should let me take him down the rope.
Wednesday Daud |
Yeah I know about the tricks, a part of stuff I really need to update on his sheet.
"He has ears yaknow." he'll reply dryly, "but yeah 'Vuk', do. Not. Bite. Him. Licking is okay."
Gaius Tindareus |
Gaius climbs down one-handed carrying Vuk, setting him down next to the remaining spider.
climb: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 2 = 12
If that's a move action I'll use another move action to draw my shield when I get down. If it's a full-round action I'll chill and hope that Vuk can kill this last spider. ;-)
Tolenn |
Tolenn remains calm as she misses badly, smoothly removing a bolt from her quiver and placing it in the weapon's slot. A quick pull and the action was ready once more.
Leaning over she targets the spider she just missed.
Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Damage 1d8 ⇒ 4
Her eyes rise skyward as the skittering arachnid once again avoids her volley.
Wednesday Daud |
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Daud shoos at the arachnid even as he swings.
Yeah, I just woke up about 2 hours ago, I work the Graveyard shift 1am-6am eastern time, in case anybody was wondering about my odd posting hours.
Edit:lol, partially ninjaed.
DM Crispy |
Tolenn loses her touch with the crossbow, missing badly as she fires into the melee.
Daud finishes the job, separating the spider from a generous portion of its bulbous body.
Pyron then heals himself for 2 hp.
We are now out of combat. I am going to assume you ensure the remaining two spiders don't regain consciousness.
Pyron Firehide |
Cast his last cure light wounds spell for the day: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Gaius Tindareus |
We are now out of combat. I am going to assume you ensure the remaining two spiders don't regain consciousness.
Actually, I had intended to keep one of the unconscious spiders alive, I was just asleep when you posted this. So if it's alright...
Well struck, Gaius says to Wednesday. Before he can execute the second spider, the inquisitor holds up a hand to stop him. He draws a sap and smacks the unconscious arachnid with a loud 'thwack!', ensuring it remains knocked out.
nonlethal damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
As the others look on in puzzlement, Gaius picks up the spider in one hand.
Live bait for Lamm's crocodile, unless you want to use Vuk? He smiles, drawing his shield.
Are you ready? Can you go on? he asks the others, but his gaze ends on the wounded Pyron.
Tolenn |
Tolenn peers down, calling out "Is Pyron alright? Shall I come down as well?"
Pyron Firehide |
I just finished healing my wounds, but the poison sapped a lot of my strength. I feel weak, but I'll manage. It will be at full strength with about a week's worth of rest. I can keep going on for now. Good ideas Gaius about bringing the spider for the crocodile. By the way, does someone else mind leading the way for now?
Pyron Firehide |
Pyron's halo then becomes brighter and lights up the room even more.
Gaius Tindareus |
It's all clear, Tolenn. Come on down! Gaius motions to Daud to hold the rope steady to help the heavily-armored paladin climb down.
Wednesday, can you have Vuk see if he can smell anything beyond this door? I don't know what a crocodile smells like, but it's probably different from humans. I want to see how close we are.
Gaius asks Calistria for assistance (casts Guidance) and tries to hear sounds of talking or movement behind the door.
Perception, with guidance: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 1 = 18
Wednesday Daud |
As Daud goes to hold the rope he quips back to Gaius "You keep talking like he's not here and he's gonna bite ya." before turning to Vuk "Want some gumbo? Go find us the gumbo."
At the mention of one of their preferred meals Vuk's ears perk up and he begins sniffing the air for the expectant gumbo, or at least the main ingredient for it.
Survival/Sniffer: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Wednesday Daud |
"Good boy." he'll say as pats his companions head. Turning to the rest of the group as he points his sword at the wall "So do you guys want to go the long way around or do we introduce ourselves like gents and ladies?"
Gaius Tindareus |
My bad re: the door/stairs.
Good job, Vuk, Gaius sets the spider down and rubs the dog behind the ears.
I think we should go straight through here, Gaius says, pointing to the spot in the wall.
But first, let's not forget why we are here. Lamm has wronged us all greatly, and now it's time he paid. Vengeance will be ours, and Calistria gives us her blessing in this task.
Gaius says a brief prayer as he approaches his companions in turn.
I'll use Guidance on Daud, then Pyron, then Tolenn, then myself. That should give time for Tolenn to get down the rope. Then I'll pickup the spider again and I'm good to go. Pyron, you want to hit us up with some Virtues while I cast Guidance?
Pyron Firehide |
Before we go in, let me bless you guys as well in the name of Calistria. He goes to the front and as people pass through, he blesses virtue on them.
Pyron Firehide |
Before we move on, I need to correct something important. When I was transferring my information onto Hero Lab, I forgot to add the Purifier archetype, which means I do not automatically learn the cure spells/inflict spells automatically. Since I learn the cure light wounds spell as a witch, I won't learn it now. Therefore, I should not have been able to use that spell earlier.
Pyron Firehide |
Since the spiders died anyway, then let's assumed he just did what he had to do to try to get away or something. I am not too worried about it, but this means that my character is back at 3 HP. Also, he is currently carrying a heavy load since his strength has been reduced by the poison.
Pyron Firehide |
Guys. I am badly injured over here. I have been poisoned pretty badly and I got hurt from both the fall and from the spiders. Can anyone heal me?
Tolenn |
My bad re: the door/stairs.

As Gaius appraoches Tolenn to confer Calistria's blessing, Tolenn demurs "My thanks, Gaius, but in this instance I must forgo Calistria's blessing. I do not seek Vengeance upon Lamm, only Justice. The end may turn out to be the same but the intent is different. Do not fear, I will stand shoulder to shoulder in our confrontation with Lamm, I just do not share your motivation and thus cannot accept the blessing in Vengeance's name. " her eyes are kind and compassionate as she says this.
She then hands him his crossbow and turns to Pyron "Alas, no, Pyron. Saranae has not seen fit to reward me with such a blessing."
Wednesday Daud |
Daud does not shy away from the blessing from Gaius but neither does he seem all that perceptive of it. Upon being overlooked in the communal empowerment Vuk will walk up to Gaius and begin licking his hand.
Gaius Tindareus |
As Tolenn pulls back from his touch, and Vuk pads up, Gaius bestows the blessing on the dog instead, patting him on the head
Tolenn, I respect your faith--your will to adhere to Sarenrae's teachings after what Lamm has put you through is a testament to your strength. I am honored to stand with you. For justice or vengeance, Lamm's reckoning is at hand. Ready?
Wednesday Daud |
"Yes." Daud grunts, agitation overcoming his voice, which sofar has been the most emotion the rest of the group has seen to date. It is easy to surmise the agitation is born from being so close to his goal rather than caused by anyone currently present.
Vuk has perk ears and happily wags his tail as Gaius blesses him.
DM Crispy |
Ok, so everyone but Tolenn (due to her faith) has 1 temp hp and +1 on a roll during the next minute of game time.
The ship gently rocks back and forth from the mild swells that manage to make it to the coastline. The air is foul down in the hold, threatening to overwhelm your senses now that you don't have an immediate threat to overcome. Pyron's celestial glow surrounds everyone as Gaius and Pyron both give what blessings they can to the party. The mood is tense, the calm before the storm.
Pyron Firehide |
When Pyron heard what Tolenn said, he responded, I don't have to say it in her name. Like I said before, Calistria was my mother's deity. I can cast virtue on you in a neutral manner.
