Hooded sorcerers are suspicious by their very nature.

I don't know what you two are talking about. Xerath is completely trustworthy and has never lied to you.

Yea, okay even I don't believe that.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

It certainly says something when not even the PLAYER believes his own character :)

An alternative is to stand inside the suggested room, and wait for the first guard to enter through the door (from the tiny room with the trapdoor). In that case, most of the guards would still be on the roof when the ambush is sprung though.

The only problem would be if anyone stood in the tiny room where the trapdoor actually is, which Maddok originally suggested :)

Edit: Of course, no matter how you do this, it completely ruins my plans for a rooftop "snipe-withdraw-hide-rince-repeat" encounter :)

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

Okay okay. Nobody ever claimed Maddok was bright!

I feel like we're spending too much time figuring out how to deal with a handful of mooks especially after the epic wizard battle.

What, you want me to just handwave it?

Easy: Appario jokes, Derek sings, Maddok rages, Yahirma causes misfortune, Xerath broods, and a few potions and wand-charges are lost ;)

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

No, I'm not suggesting that necessarily.

You know generally what Yahirma is trying to do. We trust you to setup the scene accordingly.

Edit: That said, your summary is pretty accurate. Handwave as you see fit. =P

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

Quiet day...

As for the camping thing, this is one of those situations where something like Tiny Hut would be helpful. Then again, I kind of like the danger that comes with camping in the middle of an enemy stronghold. =P

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

Are, what did you hand in mind for post-CoT campaign stuff?

I figure post-CoT campaign stuff would still be about 6-9 months (or more) in the future, so I haven't actually started working seriously on that beyond jotting down ideas :)

It would build on the themes of the AP (so Thrune and Hell would likely be involved), but I would also want to incorporate whatever quests the characters would be interested in, as well as their backgrounds.

Of course, I've never actually run anything homebrew before (Paizo adventures spoiled me!), so I would be venturing into uncharted territory.

If you meant post-CoT in terms of other PBPs, I'm currently thinking of potentially starting Legacy of Fire, Kingmaker, Serpent's Skull, or Jade Regent.

A team this boss will do great in any thing you cook up. Hail Urgathoa!

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

Heh, I think I like having a fan around. =P

As I mentioned before, I really don't like high level D&D, but some sort of campaign to undue Thrune's hold on Cheliax and/or advance people's personal stories would be awesome. If any DM could change my opinion on the matter you'd be the one to do it.

If you're interested in starting another AP after this one I'd definitely be on board (if you'd have me). From that list Legacy of Fire sounds the most interesting.

+1 to LoF. If you'll have me again...however, we have much work to do here first.

Abadar is not yet satisfied with the order in Westcrown and Appario is not yet a merchant prince.

Just a heads-up: I just got home, and I want to finish the ground-floor map before posting. Hopefully it won't take more than a couple of hours :)

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

So Legacy of Fire is 3.5 material. Are you planning on updating everything to use PF rules or is that already available on the internet somewhere?

I would update it to PF rules, certainly. I'm sure conversions are available somewhere, but it's more fun to do it myself :)

Most of the new monsters have been reprinted in PFRPG sources, so it would mostly just be classed NPCs that would need reworking.

I'd change some things, too, just like for this game.. for instance, you're currently nearing the end of book 5, while you've only barely dipped your toes into book 4 :)

Edit: Strange. Somehow the original version of my post was reposted 5 minutes later..

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

Exciting! It already feels pretty climactic. I can only imagine what's still to come beyond the confrontation with Eccarian and/or the pit fiend.

It may be many months off still but I'm already tossing around ideas for what I'd want to play in LoF.

I could start LoF before finishing this, you know :)

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

The boards decided it didn't like the taste of your post and regurgitated it.

I wouldn't want to distract you from this one. =P

How many two-hour maps do you really want to make in a week?

That's a good point, but still.. At the rate of 1 AP per 2 years I'll never get to run all the APs I want to run :)

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

Well I'll trust you to manage your own time responsibly.

I just wouldn't want anything to detract from this game.

You do realize you're talking to someone who frequently stays up half the night (or more) to post at a message board, right? :P

Point taken.

I no longer trust you to manage your own time responsibly.

I have no objections to playing any of those Adventure Paths, though to offer full disclosure I have played through Legacy of Fire. Were I to approach it again, I would play something quite different, avoid spoiling anything, and enjoy it for a wealth of different reasons.

If you need conversions for the Legacy of Fire foes, my good friends Kyle (Alizor) and Nani performed many stat block updates. Some are posted online, and others could be sent your way. Because our home group tends towards..."ruthless efficiency" with a party of six, some of the later creatures were modified for added difficulty. Let me know if you might want these.

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

Have you played Serpent's Skull? That'd be my runner up.

Xerath just texted me his actions for the turn:

Move up to L22 and total defense.

Test (Appario): 1d20 ⇒ 10
Test (Derek): 1d20 ⇒ 6

Well, apparently there's nothing wrong with it; I wondered if perhaps the dice-roller ignored the stuff in parentheses and thought all the Fortitude saves were the same roll :)

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

Nope, just a freak 1 in 8000 chance.

I'm just glad those weren't Dark Stalker sneak attacks!

1 in 160000, you mean; 1 in 8000 is just a measly 3 20's in a row :P

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

True.

I'm hoping this is the dungeon full of 5-corridors we see for a while.

After this the Beast grows to large!

It's certainly the last thief-created delay-tactics-based stronghold you'll see :)

There is at least one more location in the AP featuring some very long 5-ft-corridors, but I'm planning to change that one up a bit. Far too claustrophobic, and the narrowness there doesn't even make sense.

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

Sounds good.

Appario's Spring Attack helps some but these sorts of tight quarters are a pain for most parties.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

Legacy of fire eh? Trecking through the desert...I'd enjoy playing that, but I am never going to do it in person again.

Post 7,000 you magnificent piddlespotters!!!

w00t!

We're treating this thread like a dark creeper at a rave!

You mean standing it in the middle of a circle and then headbanging wildly with ww1 German helmets on?

Female :D Check out my fetching opercles!

You guys are punny. I've had more fun lurking here than I can easily describe, though I glossed over some parts.

P.S. Don't tell anyone I was here. I should be doing more homework.

Keep up the fun!

What? You want me to believe we're being spied on by a fish? You've got to be squidding me.

I guess any 'fin' is possible, I guess. I have no reason to trout you.

Female :D Check out my fetching opercles!

XD Admittedly, I walked right into that one.

Ooo another fan!

Please don't feed the Appario.

Female :D Check out my fetching opercles!

It's too late: this fish has already fed the man. The irony of this, or indeed, the surreal elements therein, are not lost upon me.

It seems like the PBP-groupies are coming out of the woodwork in force :)

I'm glad not, chum.

DM Are wrote:

Don't you mean the "PbP-guppies" in this case?

Female :D Check out my fetching opercles!

I am not a groupie. I am a player and a dm with a group, that while splendid, is about as active as a hermit crab in a fridge.

Edit:Please ignore my weakened position. Please ignore my weakened position.

I like the idea of having groupies. I'm going to take the Appario approach and be willfully delusional on the subject.

Female :D Check out my fetching opercles!

At least concede that I crawled out of a brook, and not the woodwork, lest I cast an ineffectual curse on your future bloodline.
(And if I'm bothering you, do let me know.)

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

You don't bother me at all. This gives me something to do while we wait for Derek to post.

Female :D Check out my fetching opercles!

Excellent, yes, everything is going according to the plan that was nonexistent prior to several seconds ago.

=nonconvinging maniacal laughter=

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

Not bothering me either.

Your homework paid me to distract you.

=nonconvincing maniacal laughter=

Female :D Check out my fetching opercles!

At least I can now list the five givens of second language acquisition and why people can get really good at reading a language whilst still faulting for the ability to speak it.
I could also tell you how to call somebody really, really mean names in Spanish.

How much is my homework paying you, anyhow? It would have to be a lot, knowing this alias.

I'm pretty sure you would be awesome in any role :)

I'll take you up on that offer! I think my email-address is in my profile, but otherwise just send me a PM.
