Male Human

Hey,

I'm a huge fan of the storyhour. Can I get viewing access to the group site? My email is shinwonmoon@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Sovereign Court

You mean the group site? Sure but honestly it doesn't get that much use. And welcome, we could always use more peanut munchers!

Oh and if you want to dot the game thread please feel free, I cannot manage without a dot on threads I follow...

Also Alex only:
Not that I want to kick Malthir while he is down (sorry bad pun) but... you take bite damage when you are swallowed whole. I usually do the bite damage as they are swallowed and then start the digestive damage the following turn.

Edit: Oh my. Failed his save... this isn't looking good for Malthir.

Sovereign Court

Lord Okoya:

Intentionally spared the poor lad the bite damage too but i'll pull no further punches :P. Never spotted the regeneration, will fix now.

Alex:
I thought that it might be so... but I figured in the interests of being fair (seeing as how I have lobbied for the players in some of my past intrusions), I would point it out, just in case it was an oversight.

Fingers crossed for Malthir!

Sovereign Court

Don't worry your input is appreciated as always.

Thank you sir! :)

what's with every monster trying to get a bite of Malthir?
well...

I don't think it's because of his blood becoming tasty blue,
I rather think this is a side effect of sleeping in full armour:
sure you can remove the fatigue, but not the smell! Adding the stink of armor polish and grease to that of sweat-soaked padding isn't necessarily going to help alot either.
Paladins, remember cleanliness is next to holy awsome powarZ!

I humbly suggest two house rules:
1- anything tracking by scent should have a bonus to track those that routinely sleep in full armor.
2- everyone in the party should have a circumstance bonus to save vs nausea due to having spent so much time close to Malthir

oh, and happy new year. Great to have story hour back on track :-)

Sovereign Court

haha :)

Hes routinely the target because hes always at the front of the marching order. This particular plant would rather nom Fenna or Ilya.

Maybe in a few rounds ;)

Not looking good for our heroes....

Not looking good for Malthir for sure... the rest could make a tactful retreat leaving the plant to digest its meal in peace. ;)

As far as "Kalev's cunning plan" goes, how many medium sized creatures can this plant swallow at once? Kalev could go in, hopefully make his own save, and then cut himself and Malthir out to freedom. Freedom meaning to be ravaged to death by the creature's bites and tentacles... :P

It may actually be the best plan- not that Kalev is likely to have much choice in the matter.

I'd agree--if Kalev makes his saving throw. But if he fails it, the tendriculos will have two PCs to digest. Suddenly I'm more filled with respect for this particular monster, as swallow with paralysis is pretty bad.

On the bright side, maybe if Malthir survives, he'll have an epiphany about the fragility of life and propose to Vaysh. Although her legion of mage fanboys will curse his name forever, the people will welcome her +5 rulership-boosting goodness. ;-)

It may BE the best plan, but that has more to do with the fact that it is most likely the ONLY plan at the moment that has ANY chance of saving Malthir. However remote that chance may be. Otherwise I wouldn't say it is a highly desirable plan. :)

That doesn't mean, of course, that I'm not pulling for a miracle!

To be honest Kalev has almost no chance of breaking the grapple with its bonus. He better go for the luck angle and "allow" hiself to be swallowed, it is much easier to cut himself out than waste a couple of rounds trying to beat the opposed grapple only to be grappled again on its turn and taking the damage as well.

If he can cut me out, then I might live until I get un-paralyzed then the creature will face my wrath!!!!! lol's

Duke of Kardas, First Sword of Iomedae HP:51/76 AC:27 F:+14, R:+8, W:+12 CMD:23/24 P:-1 Init:+0 AOO:+16

This is the worst kind of death that Malthir could imagine. Helpless in the belly of some beast being slowly digested while his friends are probably dying out there trying to save him.
He would rather have been gutted by Karas on the field of battle than become food for some Shambler wanabe... :)

Well it has impressive CMB but to be fair you haven't seen its CMD- although yes that will be pretty awesome too from strength and size.

Its a vicious fight, no doubt about it.

I agree. He must let himself be swallowed... that is why I asked how much room there was inside this plant. :)

As for your wrath? I would politely suggest that if Kalev is actually successful in extracting Malthir from within the beast.... you run and live to fight another day! :)

Hope Kalev makes his save!

That might be quite the understatement... if you ran this fight 5 times... I'm not sure the PCs would win one. :P

This creature being in its particularly special terrain makes it about 1-2 CR harder than normal. Any affect that completely takes out two party members from a fight changes the whole dynamic of the fight. That being said, all of the crappy roles by us have made it just that much harder...

Dark Archive

No longer matters Drow Lich Epic level Wizard/Cleric of considerable ability

Without a doubt the terrain advantage is killer. The CR of this encounter is indeed steep (especially considering the modifications AK is likely using) and the crappy rolls aren't helping to be sure.

However, hacking your way out of the plant and defeating it are not the same thing. You will still have a mighty tough fight on your hands even when/if you two make it out... and there is no guarantees that you will remain outside for long! :)

I've said more than I should have I would suspect... my apologies to all participants, especially AK, if I am overstepping my lurker privileges... it is just that I am immensely enjoying this PBP and do not want to see the party TPKd. :)

Sovereign Court

Note that RAW Kalev cannot use his axe to hack his way out- as he is two size categories smaller than the huge Tendriculous I let it fly though. If an Ogre has room to swing a dagger... etc.

To be fair Kalev has a dagger for this purpose anyway :)

Sovereign Court

*CHOMP*

*CHOMP*

I'll admit- I am incredibly fond of all the characters, and i'm finding it very hard not to pull punches.

Your Humble Narrator

This is entirely my ruling and not RAW- as far as I can tell, damage in excess of the damage needed to swallow whole is wasted. But then you have some strange versimilitude issues of 'how did that 59 damage crit not hurt its HP?'.

So- in light of that epic double 20, excess damage will go to the Tendriculous itself!

Best crit ever.

OK, going to open up a quick discussion about any items that the group would like to craft after we level. I am assuming that Fenna and Ilya are still taking craft wondrous item (Ilya) and craft magic arms and armor (Fenna) from our original discussions?

If so I wouldn't mind taking the extra time to get some of us who haven't bought any equipment in a while to get some equipment made.
Who else has the money and has equipment needs? We each just got an additional 250gp from Beldame for getting the mushrooms as well.

As I mentioned in the in character thread I am hoping to get:
+2 belt of str 4 days 2000gp
+2 headband of charisma, lets call it a circlet :) +2 4 days 2000gp
+1 cloak of resistance 1 day 500gp
add +1 to my MW shield 1 day 500gp

9 Days if they are both working on stuff at the same time.

Malthir is updated except for equipment. Took Shield Focus as my 5th level feat, yeah not very exciting but since everything wants to eat me I figured getting more tank on would be good.

Not for Malthir:
Secretly, Kalev will be talking to the other Guardians about a suitable wedding present for Malthir and his wife to be.

I'm thinking that Belt of Str +2. Kalev will hunt for prime leather to use and pay parts of the enchantment if the others agree to the plan.

I'm also contemplating a stat boosting item, just don't know if it should be Str, Dex or Con at this time...Str is probably the "best" choice, but also the one that everybody else will most likely be making...perhaps also a pair of Boots of Striding and Springing.

Buying a few items in town:

    4 Potions of Enlarge 1d100 ⇒ 42 200 gp
    5 Flasks of Alchemist's Fire 1d100 ⇒ 36 100 gp

I think 3 potions of enlarge is 150GP not 900GP.

The boots would cost you 2750 vs. 2000 for the stat item in case that makes a difference for you.
