Opening the discussion thread for you guys to get together and finish your aliases. I feel massively underprepared compared to GM KEN and my plan is mostly to wing it for the first few weeks while I build up the prep!
Note that I will use a few more changes compared to Waz Up's original recruitment:
The game will use some of the Unchained rules: Consolidated skills, Background skills, Skill Unlocks, Combat Stamina feat (free for fighters), Automatic Bonus Progression.
I also hope to be able to reorder the AP beginning a bit, in order to postpone encountering Lamm closer to the end of book 1. I will spend the next week on working out the details, and if I don't have the plan by next Monday I will probably scrap it.
At this point in time (probably until September) I may not be able to post every day, but will post at least 4 times a week. I usually have a bit more time on Fridays and weekends, but may sometimes skip weekdays.
I am in a GMT+2 timezone but I sometimes post at weird hours (3:15 AM right now) so I think that US players in my other games don't have issues with that.

Mivaela |

Ha, don't worry! I'm only trying to over prepare so much because I know myself enough that if I try to wing it, I'm liable to put off posting while I "figure things out." (aka procrastinate) ;)
So if I prep a ton ahead of time, I'm hoping I can keep things rolling well enough. So no worries! (Plus, I keep hoping to run this AP with my home group one of these years. So, the more I write down, the more I'll have ready if that ever materializes.)
I should hopefully have Mivaela updated tomorrow.
Thanks again for running this!

I have some questions regarding those unchained rules:
- skills are calculated 1+1/2 Int - what about Int +1? Rounded down as usual? (would seem like a big nerf to the occasional Int 12 character)
- class skills: is just one part of the new skill sufficient to get the class bonus? (e.g. sorcerers have fly - do they get acrobatics?)
- does a character get all the skill unlocks from all the consolidated skills if he has sufficient ranks?
- as I read it Combat Stamina is pretty irrelevant for pure caster types, right?
- does the automatic bonus Progression affect familiars or do they have to use Equipment for that as usual?
Thanks :-)

Kyoden Goju |

I can't answer a lot of that, but if you scroll to the bottom of the consolidated skills page it shows the class skills. For sorcerer, it's 1 skill plus half int with class skills of influence and spellcraft.
There is no such entry for vigilante. Should I use the entry for rogue?

GM CyberMephit |

I will keep the feat tax rules since it's easy to add them to hero lab.
No fetchlings please.
The rogue class skill list looks good for the vigilante, yes.
For the amount of skill ranks you get, figure it out as you would normally and then divide by 2 rounding down. So either 14 int or 12 int + FCB both get 1 bonus skill rank.
You get the skill unlocks for all components of a consolidated skill, yes.
Combat Stamina is mostly intended for martials, yes.
I haven't really considered that familiars can have equipment. EDIT: I seem to be misremembering how the innate bonus system works. I will think about a solution. Do you intend to have equipment on your familiar straight from the first levels?

Kyoden Goju |

I have a hard time with consolidated skills. Of course all the skills I wanted fell to different groups. How do background skills fit with consolidated skills? Sleight of Hand and a couple knowledges are background skills. Are background skills now only craft and profession skills?

Kyoden Goju |

I'm almost there. One more question (and sorry if I'm being a bit bothersome). Waz Up originally approved the Daisho Expertise feat from DSP Path of War. Is this still allowed?

Garran Fain |

Sorry for my delay in posting. My dog has been ill all day, so I've been a bit busy.
Since Waz Up was requiring Fighters to spend a feat on Combat Stamina, I'll need to choose another feat. I've never use Consolidated skills, so it might take me a bit to figure that out.
Really looking forward to this. Thanks again for picking it up!

Edita Zaqawi |

Do you intend to have equipment on your familiar straight from the first levels?
Not so much. Since I have a monkey and familiars are very vulnerable, I will at least buy him a doll-sized leather armor in the first few levels. Later on I intend to either craft him stuff via Craft Wondrous Item or not - depends on the innate boni.
EDIT: Stats updated. Moved 2 pts. Int to Dex since I have the Skilled racial ability.

Garran Fain |

Okay, so, more questions for Consolidated Skills:
First, Child of the Streets gives me Sleight of Hand as a class skill. Does that now give me Finesse as a class skill? Same question for my Betrayed (Reformed Criminal) trait giving me Diplomacy as class skill, does it give me Influence as a class skill?
Sleight of Hand is also on the Background Skill list. How does that interact with Consolidated Skills? Can I use a background skill point on Finesse?
Also, side comment, the way the collapsed the Fighter's skill list is weird. I do not think the consolidated Acrobatics skill should be Fighter class skill, yet here we are. Survival would have been more appropriate, I think.
For my feat (since Combat Stamina is now free for Fighters), I chose Weapon Focus (heavy blades).
Are you still using Advanced Armor Trainings and Advanced Weapon Trainings?

GM CyberMephit |

As for the class skills gotten by traits - treat it as a +3 bonus to the respective use of the skill. I believe this is how Hero Lab treats it, too.
When using Consolidated Skills, the only Background skills are: Appraise, Craft, Knowledge (Engineering), Profession. Note that these Background skills are not consolidated and still use the normal rank count (so minimum 2). Sleight of Hand is part of Finesse, so no.
I will still be using the Advanced Fighter Trainings, yes.

Edita Zaqawi |

Note that these Background skills are not consolidated and still use the normal rank count (so minimum 2).
Why "Minimum" 2? As I read it, you don't get to apply your Int-bonus to Background skills also.
(The reference in short: "...each character gains an additional 2 skill ranks per level, which must be spent on background skills.")

CyberMephit |

Yes that's right but you can also trade your adventuring ranks for the extra background ranks (not that there is often a reason to do so).

Again, I apologize if I'm asking a lot. I'm just trying to get everything sorted now. Waz Up initially approved Daisho Expertise feat from PoW (with the intent on wielding a daisho) Is this still allowed?

GM CyberMephit |

Sorry Kyoden, I am slightly confused - I think you initially wanted to reskin the Dueling Sword as the katana? If I allow the Daisho Expertise, will you be using the actual katana? The feat looks OK to me, but just to put it out there upfront - I will not allow the dex-to-damage feats if anyone intends to go down that route.

Kyoden Goju |

Sorry about the confusion, It comes from the two CotCT recruitments that were running simultaneously.
I originally submitted a fetchling teisatsu for DM Waz Up's recruitment. I had asked Waz Up if he would allow a katana to be a finessable weapon or allow the dueling sword to be an proficient weapon in place of katana on the teisatsu weapon proficiency list. Waz Up proposed taking the Daisho Expertise feat instead.
When it looked like Waz Up's game wasn't happening, I modified and resubmitted the character to DoctorEvil's game. In that game, he wouldn't allow any of the modifications so I went with half-elf for the free exotic weapon proficiency feat.
When recruitment started to pick up here again, I was instructed not to change it back to what it was originally as there would be different requirements.
Again, I'm sorry for the confusion and the wordy response. My basic goal is to be able to wield an actual Daisho without having my stats insanely MAD. I hope that clears things up.

Alistair Wellington |

I got a chance to look at the consolidated skills...I will adjust the character soon.
I will away at Pennsic War 46 for about another 2 weeks. I will be able to post but my post will be short as my data plan will take a hit being in a campground with 12,000 other people. No free WiFi in the area...

Kyoden Goju |

That's fine. I was just trying to clear all the confusion. With that, then I think I've finished all the updates to this character

Garran Fain |

Same question about the gameplay thread. With how busy I've been the past couple of days, I completely forgot to check this thread.
I'm redoing my Skills now, I just need to choose a second background skill.
How do we determine if a background skill is a class skill? Is it if it was in our class's original skill list?

Mivaela |

I believe CyberMephit stated that the background skills are:
Appraise
Craft
Knowledge (Engineering)
Profession
Everything else got wrapped into one of the consolidated skills, I believe. CM will hopefully correct me if I got it wrong. But that is how I understood it and was finishing up my character using.

GM CyberMephit |

I was also quite busy in the last few days but I feel more or less prepared to launch the game now and starting to work on the first gameplay post.
I find the "converting core skills" table very helpful when dealing with the consolidated skills.
Mivaela is correct about the background skills. If one of them (e.g. Appraise) was a class skill for you, it remains a class skill.

Garran Fain |

Hey guys, my father-in-law is in the hospital, and my wife and I have our second wedding anniversary next week. Posting might be short and scarce until Thursday.
Thank you for the clarity on the background skills. That helps greatly.

Kyoden Goju |

Quick heads up, I will be out of town from Saturday 8/19 through Tuesday 8/22. Feel free to take any actions for my character during this time.

Kyoden Goju |

Still here also... a lot of people were traveling this weekend, including myself, for the eclipse and gencon. So give him a few days.

At the top of this screen is a link to a "combat map"
Just above the Campaign tab.
The link is also above the Game play tab in your "current Campaigns"

GM CyberMephit:
Is there anything we as the players can do to help you out. If we can do anything to help you get ready, let us know...I am sure all of us would be willing to help.

CyberMephit |

Edita - you should be able to move the tokens yourself; I'll correct tonight if you don't get a chance before that.
