Chronicles of the Silver Rose Company

Game Master Patrick Curtin

This campaign is my attempt to play a canonical Planescape campaign using the updated Pathfinder ruleset. The game actually predates the release of Pathfinder, but we have managed to update as we have needed.

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

Perception (urban terrain): 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (10) + 18 = 28

Bribes always welcome

The party approaches a fork in the path between stalls, Most of the selling stalls are made of woven reed sides with silk tops and canopies. Pennions flutter from many, advertising their wares. At the fork there is a slightly larger stall selling what look to be various beverages and simple grilled sandwiches and sausages to the crowd. The crowd itself is mostly elven and goblin in makeup. The goblins here are a pale grey-green in coloring, and are more muscular and taller than the type the group is used to seeing

Perception (urban terrain): 1d20+18

Issac:

Spoiler:
As Issac approaches the food/drink stall, he gets an itching feeling between his shoulder blades. He is in front, with Jena at his side. He glances around warily. There are two goblins eating sausages at the front of the food stall. They look as if they are just enjoying their snack, but their narrow eyes flick over the approaching party again and again as they approach. Issac glances up and sees a dark shape hidden among the billowing folds of the food tent's silk.

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

"Careful. We got an audience at the stall there... and one more up in the stall's silks.", Isaac says before approaching two goblins eating sausages at the stall and barking something in a harsh, nasty sounding tongue.

Goblin:

Spoiler:
"HEY! First glance is free but if ye wanna stare it'll cost ya! Ain't ye ever seen a half-breed before?"

Bribes always welcome

The goblins start at being addressed. They toss their sandwiches down and reach into their lose robes, pulling out a pair of wicked-looking black curved blades.

Above them on the roof two more goblins appear, throwing back silk coverings meant to camouflage them on the roof.

Gimmie a group initiative

Stheno:

Spoiler:
Stheno had been taking a lazy day to peruse the wares in the Souk of Dreams. She had been fingering some lovely silks when a melee looked ready to break out about 100 feet from her position. Several odd-looking folks accompanied by what looked to be noble elves are facing off with a group of Koskas armed with nightblades.

Seph busies himself looking over the books apparently overjoyed at being there. His mood does dampen a little bit when he see's how ill at ease Nari seems to be. "Does something about this place bother you?" he asks her

Nari had sat down on the floor in the corner. She hugged her knees tightly to her chest and her eyes darted nervously about.

"It reminds me of home," she said simply. "Too many memories...The last time I was in an elven city, I was running for my life."

Seph picks up the small stack of books he has already managed to Acquire and walks over to sit next to Nari "Maybe you could try reading a book?" He suggests holding out a random book to her "That always helped take my mind off things whenever I was nervous or upset back home."

Her hands shook as she took the book. "Legends and Tales of the Fae Realms," she read off the cover of the book. "Well, that sounds promising. Would you like me to read it to you? Oh, look, it has pictures too. Very nice ones."

Once again puzzled by Karin's outburts Rhiannon rolls her eyes.

Perception1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

The beauty of the city is breathtaking, and she thoroughly enjoys the stroll through the marketplace, although a part of her deep down grins when the goblins produce weapons.

A little exercise, perfect timing.

"Yes please."

Another two goblins throw off silken tarps to reveal themselves.

OK. The two in front of the food/drink stall are ground level. The four on tents are 10' up in air, balancing on very thin walls of woven wicker.

Female Medusa Medusa/Ninja 5/2

Seeing the melee about to break piques her interest, but more that she wonders why the Koska would be attacking strangers. She begins to casually move in the direction of the brewing fifth, curious to see what the newcomers do. Once the two new Koska show themselves however, her brow furrows. Could the strangers stand up to them now they were outnumbered (for obviously the Elves didn't count). She moves more purposefully towards the commotion now, drawing her scimitar and cursing herself for not carrying her bow. She would show the Koska not to pick on travellers, no matter how strange they may look.

As the confrontation occurs she will move towards the breaking battle.
Once the fight breaks out she will double move to come at the Goblins from behind, drawing her scimitar as she goes.

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

Assuming we go first-
Isaac draws and strings his bow in one smooth motion fires a point-blank shot at the goblin straight ahead of him.
"Scrappers hate a solid formation, cutters.", he begins,"Try teh stay tight and don't offer an opening 'til we drop a few."

Did Lady Merilindiel say what would happen if we got it wrong? I.e., just failure to take effect, or would it actually have severe consequences?

What outburst :P Karrin is actually being well behaved now. She was just looking for a chance to politely and discretely show Isaac up. To her knowledge only she and Isaac are in on the plan but Rhiannon is one the only PC that has seen through a bit of the deception.

Isaac wrote:

"All due respect cap those four up top are gonna have arrows and we stay in formation it's gonna be for them like shooting shooting fish in some sort of enclosed space, like a bucket or a tub."

Karrin moves up to protect their guests and takes a swing at the goblin on the ground:

Justin snorts, relaxing, and rolls his head to one side, stretching his neck.

"Yeah. It looks simple enough, but,... it's just not making sense when I try to actually DO it. It's like doing a simple spell, but doing it backwards. I can see what to do, I know all the steps, I just keep doing them the way I'm used too."

He Gives the others a wry grin. "Definitely a good idea for all of us to try and learn it. Good job Merle."

Justin then turns back to his candle, takes a deep breath, lets it out, and murmurs, "Time to teach an old dog a new trick,..."

Rhiannon strides forward stepping through Jena's space since she's an ally repeating crossbow snapping up to send a bolt streaking towards one of the perched goblins.

Apologies folks for letting you swing these last few days have been brutal. Let's get this rolling up

Stheno, roll a Perception as you come up to the scene

The goblins are dressed in nondescript baggy linen tunics and pants, similar to what the group have seen others wearing in the marketplace.

Initiatives Rd 1

Issac: 21 [Bowshot-miss]
Phaumee: 20 [seed dart]
Karrin: 17 [swing and a hit]
Jena: 17 [Casting Stoneskin on Maelrin-ferrets]
Rhiannon:14 [Crossbow-hit-need coordinate]
Maelrin:14 [Attacking-hit]
Gobbos: 13 [attacking]

Issac's bowshot just misses. Karrin's axeslice hits, opening a long ragged gash in one. Rhiannon also hits, the goblin taking it in the side

Rhi-which one you hitting?

Phaumee draws a large dart that looks like a giant seed and hurls it at one of the higher goblins

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 131d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

It goes wide

Jena's big ferrets spill out of her bag and fan out from her position. She casts a spell on Maelrin. He draws his black sword, pale fire licking of the blade and charges.

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 231d8 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Running outta time, but I will get the gobbo's attacks up soon

Awlroight, some free time ..

Stheno:

Spoiler:
The Koska LOOK like Koska, but they certainly are moving more like trained amushing stealth ninjas. Koska usually don't opt for sneaky ninja-style trickery, that is more their dark counterparts the Xvart's territory. Stheno smells a rat. It certainly looks like a setup.

Rhiannon's crossbow bolt strikes true, drawing a gout of blood from the rooftop attacker. Maelrin's blow opens a gash on the earth-bound goblin

"What did I tell you?" Karrin asks the half-elf, "and neither you or me have shields! Why we staying in tight formation again?"

Despite Karrin's objections the tiefling doesn't charge into the archers and continues to act as the front line.

Sorry, must have forgotten to move you. There are a lot of folks moving up, are you behind Rhiannon or Maelrin? It is actually a moot point because ...

Karrin stumbles, her vision blurring. The ground races up to meet her..

Karrin is now down for 1 minute of snooze time. At the end of said time (assuming things have went well) she gets a second DC Fort roll. If she fails she'll be in lala land for 2d4 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 hours

hmmm... for some reason I thought I was coming in from behind the Koska. My bad. :/

Narrowing her eyes, her snakes hissing in suspicion, Stheno strides forwrd as she sees two of the strangers go down to what she now suspects to be a planned ambush. As she moves, her cloak swirls around her and when it settles it's blood red lustre is replaced by an inky blackness.
"Be wary," she says to the the strangers. "These Koska are not what they seem."

Standard Action: Reverse her Cloak from the Charismatic to the Stealth side.
Move Action: Stride forward to t15 (I think. Sorry Pat, your squares are a little off, so I'm not sure which Square Isaac is in).
She already has her Scimitar in her hand from her previous move as well.

No worries. We'll go with T15 and I'll straighten the map out as we go

Stheno sees two of the strangers fall to the ground. The Koska are moving fluidly, and displaying a very familiar style of combat. Stheno has trained similarly before, and knows the Cobalt Shadows* when she sees them, no matter the disguise they wear.

*Stheno:

Spoiler:
The Cobalt Shadows are a clan of Xvart ninjas devoted to the Recluse, the spymaster of the Morkarthau. Stheno has seen them before, but never on the streets of Hanalindali. She would have thought it impossible. Stheno knows they also use the Tears of the Recluse, a potent knock-out poison. The two fallen strangers must have been hit by their shuriken.

Female Medusa Medusa/Ninja 5/2

Pat:
HA! Did you write Goblin Ninjas into the story for me, or did I just fluke my Class as something you'd already been incorporating? :)

Sudden understanding dawns on her face as her eyes narrow. "By the blood of the Gorgon, Cobalt Shadows. Be wary friends of the Hanalindrim, these imposters are no Koska and those shuriken they are throwing have a potent sleeping venom on them. We need to take them down hard and fast."

Internal dialogue...

Spoiler:

"I don't know why you're acting so embarrassed. It's true isn't it? It's what we are," Sanna complained.
"No! It's not true! I won't accept it. I don't want anything to do with that man."
"As if denial makes our blood change one iota. We are still the daughter of Lord Mai'im and you know as well as I that makes us of noble blood."
"Noble blood! Is that what you want to call it? I don't find anything noble about torturing other living beings for pleasure!"
"You wouldn't," Sanna grumbled.
"That's enough! What happened to you? Why have you changed so much? You were always tough, but not like this..."
"Or maybe you were just too stupid to notice what I was really like. And I won't need you to hide behind much longer. So think about that," Sanna growled.

Nari squeaked in fright and then blushed more. "S-sorry. It's n-n-nothing."

She hoped the others would be finished soon. She really needed to get back to Sigil to get a new crystal. Or an exorcist. She wasn't really sure which.
