Garduk the Unteachable |
Assuming Veres has opened the crate (or opens the crate prior to Garduk's round 13 action):
Using his last reserves of arcane energy, Garduk summons a hound into the hazard crate to serve as bait for the goo. As the animal appears, the arcanist puts a hand on its back for a moment to indicate it should stay put, then backs away from the crate.
Kulga Gruenakslag |
Kulga stands ready to slam shut the crate.
Veres Sol |
Since the crate is open, Veres heals Kulga again, and stands firm, ready to close the crate if Kulga somehow can't.
CLW wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Brayne's heal of 5, Veres' heal of 5 and then the two previous heals( 7 and 4) heals Kulga 21 points, bringing her back to full. If I am confused, since it seems my actions are on a previous round, please forgive me.
Chaosorbit |
I have Kulga at down 9 now, she was at one time down 38. Garduk's heal was on himself.
Distraction on doggie: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7
Veres and Brayne heal Kulga once more. As Garduk summons Horatio, who appears inside the crate and looks around a confused look on his doggie face. Kulga stands over the crate ready to slam it shut. And the goo comes it swarms upon the poor celestial creature. Kulga slams the lid on the crate, but the goo still covers the surrounding area, some of it crawls through the cracks in the lid, although most is collecting inside as it surrounds Horatio, who yelps in pain and panic. It's clear something must be done to seal the crate!

Veres Sol |
An idea suddenly hits Veres like a ray of sunlight through a cloudy sky.
Maybe it needs power, like magic, to function? Maybe that techno gun thing has a source I could use.
know engineering?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Looking at both the crate and the gun, Veres frantically tries to figure out how she might get it to work.
"I am not sure if this will work, but I think maybe this thing requires power and this gun could be a source for it! Anyone able to help me?"
Anyone with disable device? I think we went over this already and that was a no. This may be a terrible waste of time, and if so I apologize. It's all I can think of at the moment. That or jam a shocking arrow into the crate and sort of jump start it. Also, if anyone has a way to effect a swarm with electricity, we might be able to hurt it, because I think it will have a similar vulnerability to that like many of the other techno creatures have encountered. I would use the arrows or the gun if I thought it would effect the swarm, but that's the trouble with swarms made up of really small things. They are immune to weapons that don't do area effect damage.
Kulga Gruenakslag |
I'm here for the jam a shocking arrow into it plan
Chaosorbit |
Veres realizes the crate needs power, she quickly assess the situation and thinks of the gun; but then she thinks perhaps electric energy is the way to go. The gun is fire damage btw
Garduk the Unteachable |
Arrow plan sounds right to me!
Veres Sol |
Veres takes out a handful of arrows, each marked with a lighting symbol on the shaft. She takes one herself and then holds the rest out for the group, and with a coordinated attack, they jam the arrows into the device and quickly let go.
electrical damage if necessary: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Not sure if I should add the +1 or not, so I elected not to.
We have 5 +1 shock arrows in total. if Veres sees a "best place"
to jam the arrows, she will try there.
Brayne |
"Thank you!" Brayne says as he takes an arrow from Veres to follow suit.
Attack roll? Improvised Melee weapon?: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 6 - 4 = 17
electrical damage?: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Move action to take arrow, and standard action to attack the crate?! If Veres attack on the crate seems to do nothing Brayne will perhaps then attack the creature.
Kulga Gruenakslag |
Kulga stows her axe in her shield-hand, snatches up one of Veres's arrows and jams it into a likely looking spot.
Perception?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Garduk the Unteachable |
Garduk takes an arrow and jabs it at the hazard crate.
Electrical damage?: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Chaosorbit |
The combined force of the arrows being jammed into the crate forces heavy coils of wire to arc wildly with electrical energy, the silvery goo stops moving and seems to contract, pulling almost all of it inside the crate. The electricity calms and a strange green light flashes gently on one end of the crate.
Success! Combat over
Garduk the Unteachable |
That's a relief!
Warily, Garduk steps back from the hazard crate.
"We should go back upstairs and check out that machine - it looked like some kind of communications device. But should we try the wand on Pendleton and Brayne first?"
Brayne |
Brayne sighs with relief. "Well that was scary!" He says slumping down to catch his breath and composure. As he does, he turns his head looking at the somewhat unconscious Pendleton. "Err, perhaps we should heal him first before me."
I will use as many charges from my Wand of CLW to bring him into a conscious state. Otherwise will happily head back upstairs to check the machines out.
Garduk the Unteachable |
“Hmm. Before we heal his wounds, should we try that disease-curing wand on him? Or do you think that's not necessary now that the goo is deactivated?"
Garduk will also retrieve his wand of infernal healing to help make sure everyone is healed up to full hp.
Kulga Gruenakslag |
Better safe than sorry.
Brayne |
"Oh. Right. Thaaat wand." Brayne tells as he retrieves it from whoever has it to cast it upon the sick.
Brayne happily discharges remove disease on himself and Pendleton.
Veres Sol |
Veres lets out a sigh of relief (as does her player) once the silvery goo seems secured in the crate.
"I hope Nigel realizes his folly with this exhibit. It is simply staggering to think that he was going to put that thing on display for the general populace. The city must not allow him to keep this place open after yet another situation here."
Kulga Gruenakslag |
Hmmp. We can at least get Zarta to have these exhibits inspected. I'm sure she would relish the opportunity to confiscate overly dangerous relics.
Garduk the Unteachable |
Garduk glances at Brayne, then looks at the floor for a moment, then nods. "I feel certain that the Paracountess would be delighted to engage Nigel in a serious conversation about this collection he supposedly curates. Perhaps, ah, Brayne and I should talk with him on our way out. To arrange a meeting."
Chaosorbit |
Brayne and Pendleton feel much better after Cure Disease and healing spells; as everyone heals up just in case. Although Pendleton is very weak from the ordeal, he doesn't seem to have much memory of what happened and is general confused. He is definitely thankful for you saving him.
You make your way upstairs and examine the apparatus that includes the missing sarcophagus lid and five amber rods, brown chipfinder, a masterwork noqual heavy pick, and six vials of the skymetal djezet. It seems the goo wanted to make contact with someone or something...whether it did is another story.
Having secured the museum and rescued the young Blakros, you are free to seek out Nigel.
That is basically it, feel free to roleplay your discussion with Nigel. I'll wrap things up later tomorrow.
Garduk the Unteachable |
Once the party has brought Pendleton out of the museum and reunited him with Nigel and the initial account of what happened inside the museum has been given (i.e., I don't want to preempt anyone else's RP), Garduk offers the museum director a tap from his wand of infernal healing if he is still injured, then turns to business.
"We couldn't help noticing that the items you obtained for your Numerian exhibition are more powerful than the usual exhibits in your museum, Nigel. More powerful, and more dangerous. It seems to us that maybe you could use some discreet, knowledgeable assistance in evaluating your acquisitions before exhibiting them to the public. Brayne and I could arrange a meeting with Paracountess Zarta Dalneen to discuss these matters, and I am certain you would find her advice invaluable."
Brayne |
Along with Garduk, Brayne makes it very clear that the elf may really not have a choice in the matter. "She especially has good advice about how to ensure word about a certain museum smuggling historical relics from Kyonin does not get out into the public. It could be very damaging for you if that happens. In my opinion, you should really listen to her advice." Nodding his heading along the way for dramatic effect.
diplomacy?: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16 If intimidate seems more relevant, then it would be another +2
Folio reroll?: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 2 = 16
Garduk the Unteachable |
When recruiting for the Darkive for the Faction card goals, recruitment is diplomacy or knowledge (arcana) with a DC of 15 + character level. If that's the case here, Garduk will go with a knowledge check.
Knowledge (Arcana), Faction pin bonus: 1d20 + 10 + 1d4 ⇒ (7) + 10 + (3) = 20
Folio reroll:
Knowledge (Arcana), Faction pin bonus: 1d20 + 10 + 1d4 ⇒ (20) + 10 + (2) = 32
Kulga Gruenakslag |
Now that our Archive fellas have gotten their chances
And don't worry Nigel. Hardly anything needed to be broken.
Chaosorbit |
When you reach Nigel, you find him with several other concerned looking members of the Blakros clan, who are all relieved to see Pendleton alive and well. Nigel is anxious to get a look the shape of his museum, but first you get a chance at the side conversation. After Garduk and Brayne state their case and more, Nigel looks concerned, before responding.
Very well, I'll let Zarta have a look before we reopen. Now that she has separate with Cheliax, I might be persuaded to deal with her more often. Nigel tries to sound confident, but it's clear his confidence is shaken.
FJC goal successful.
After Kulga makes her statement Nigel can't help but rush in for a look.
Days later, the Blakros family thanks you with a grand dinner. And of course Drendle Drang never had a doubt you get 'that museum business sort out okay.' As a group of green looking agents work on his paperwork in his office.
