"Arg! Come ON!"

Garduk shouts in pain and surprise, then jumps away from the wave of silvery goo erupting from the Thing That Once Was Pendleton. As he moves, he instinctively pulls a flask of alchemist's fire from his bandolier.

He glances over at the gearsman only to see the little repair robots swarming over it to fix most of the damage Kulga has managed to inflict on it.

"Who has those shocking arrows Gerva gave us? Or the weird hand weapon? Maybe now would be a good time to try them?"

Somehow I don't think Brayne's claws are going to do much against this foul colloid.

Garduk lobs the alchemist's fire at the goo.

Aiming for the goo in the square Garduk just vacated. Brayne, I apologize in advance for any splash damage. Chaosorbit, I don't know if this counts as making a ranged attack into "melee" or not - is Brayne in melee combat with the goo, or is it more like a hazard? - so I haven't included the penalty to hit in the roll below. Please adjust if appropriate.

Both Garduk and Brayne manage to flee the silvery goo. Veres's rapier can't cut through the armor on the robot and Kulga misses with her axe, but connects with her Shield. Lenny's slam hits, but only the electricity damages the robot. Garduk chucks an alchemist's fire at the goo, but it seems to scurry away from the flames, it still splash it though. Brayne bites the Gearsman hard, and then rips it apart with a massive claw.

The silvery goo moves onto Brayne and Veres.

"RUN! Back to the hazard crate on the lower floor! We need to bring Pendleton too! We need it to follow us, just not catch us."

Veres then reaches over to try and pick up the unconscious Pendleton. Once she picks him up, part dragging, part carrying, she flees from the room, trying to avoid the stinging silver swarm.

I imagine I will be encumbered with a heavy load if I do this alone. Since he is unconscious he won't resist at least. Can I grab him and start and then a stronger person come along to help? Move me as far as you think she can get with all the effort needed.

Brayne slowly deforms to his original form. As he comes back into consciousness, he sees Veres struggling as she attempt to pick Pendleton and without thinking picks him by the legs. "Okay! Wait, where are we going?!"

He blindly follows Veres's lead, puffing along.

Brayne is fatigued as his rage is forced to end. Will carry and move Pendleton with Veres. Moved us 30ft.

As long as he's not substantially more than 200 lbs, Kulga should be able to carry him without slowing down

Kulga instinctively starts to snap back at Veres that "true warriors don't run from fights!" But as she looks again at the spreading goo she decides, This isn't a real fight anyways.

"Right!" Veres and Brayne take Garduk by surprise when they grab Pendleton and start dragging him out. Kulga's withdrawal from the fight snaps him into action and he runs for the stairs, picking up his bag before they start down.

Garduk is untrained in Heal and has no bonus, but he can certainly try. It might be better as an aid another check. I'll post it now and GM can resolve in whatever order makes sense.

Garduk realizes that as awful as Pendleton looked before, he seems to be getting worse just in the time it has taken to get across the room.

Probably has something to do with all of these bleeding wounds.

With a mental shrug - I'm a wizard, I bend reality to my will every day, I've even bound a creature made of lightning to serve me, surely I can bind this kid's injuries - he rips off a piece of his traveling cloak and tries to tie it around whichever wound looks worst.

Heal: 1d20 ⇒ 3

Unfortunately, Pendleton's worst wound is on his throat, and Garduk ties the makeshift bandage both in the wrong place and too tightly.

It was a long week, and apparently I'm a space cadet today. Next round, Garduk will use his wand of infernal healing.

After Garduk attempts to save the man, Brayne finally realises the condition the poor chap Pendleton is in, "Veres hold on a moment!" And soon enough, Brayne uses his reserves to cast a little spell to stop the man from dying.

Stabilize and move another 30 ft with Veres. I'll let Veres move the tokens..

Busy weekend!

(From last round) Lenny slams into the slime, and while it seems to part at the contact the electrical charge seems to arc and burn some of the silvery substance.

Kulga moves away from the goo, looking undoubtedly green. Garduk fumbles around in an attempt to bind Pendleton wounds, but can stem the bleeding. Brayne steps in and does so magically. As the group attempts to exit the third floor and head to the storage crate.

Veres rushes down the stairs as fast as she can with the help of her friends to carry the wounded, but now stable, Pendleton.

Not sure how far we can go, what with this being like a three legged race, so I just moved us to the next map at the bottom of the stairs.

The little lightning elemental emits a thundering boom and a shower of sparks, and chases after the silver goo.

I assume that the silvery goo does not count as being made of metal or wearing metal - if it does, add an extra +3 to Lenny's attack rolls.

As Kulga runs by, Garduk looks over his shoulder and sees the silvery goo way too close behind him. He hears the lightning elemental blasting its electricity at the goo from behind, and quickly turns back to continue the race down the stairs.

"GO GO GO GO GO!"

Is the goo oozing along the floor and down the stairs, or flying like a swarm of insects? Depending on how it moves, Garduk may try something as a standard action; otherwise, double move.

EDIT - I'd still like to know the answer to decide what to do next round, but it won't change my action this round. Garduk double moves.

AoE attacks vs a swarm is usually good, but no idea if that would work vs this thing. Not sure if we did a knowledge check on the swarm once we got a look at it or not. I know we tried with the remnants of the goo down below and didn't get much if anything. Depending on the type(size of the individual parts it is made up of) of swarm, it might not be susceptible to the slam attacks of the elemental.

"Kulga! Can you get to us?" Veres says as the group runs down the stairs and across the halls.

Double move this round, and if we can get enough distance from the swarm, which might go after the elemental now, I will heal Kulga with my wand as a standard action and continue to move, repeating that for a few rounds unless the swarm is close by.

I'll roll a knowledge check on Garduk's next turn. It looks as though the physical attack isn't doing much, but the energy damage does hurt it. It took splash damage from the alchemist's fire, and took more than the rolled amount of electrical damage from the elemental's slam, but it's going to take too long to kill it that way. Garduk can use his last arcane reservoir point to quick study burning hands (full round action), but that's still only going to do 3d4 damage. Or... he could dismiss the elemental, summon an animal into the hazard crate as bait for the goo, and then we slam the lid down once the goo engulfs the animal inside the crate.

Lenny’s hard slam just scatters the swarm, but the electricity burns a lot of nanites.
Veres and Brayne continue to drag and carry Pendleton along. As Garduk also makes ground on the swarm. This time Lenny can’t land an his slam as the silvery goo continues to head for Kulga; who slowed by the creatures constant harrying can’t break away from its pursuit.

Garduk whistles as loudly as he can, and motions for the lightning elemental to fly over the railing of the stairs and attack the swarm from the party's side.

Assuming that works, that's where I have moved Lenny's token.

Turning to the others, Garduk shouts, "The elemental won't be able to block that stuff for long! Run now, spells when we get there?"

"Will water work?" Brayne asks with some curiosity.

I have create water! At my level, that's 2 gallons worth that we could douse the swarm in temporarily, or even create a wave to push Kulga down the stairs.

So I did the math and I don't create enough water to even douse one 5ft square.

The math:

2 gallons of water = ~0.25 cubic feet. Assuming the puddle has a height of 1cm or 0.032ft, I have cover 8ft2.. That's not even one 5ft square (25ft2)!

Brayne brushes off such a silly idea and continues following Veres's lead. Will double move along with Veres as usual!

Garduk pulls another piece of wax paper out of his pouch, rubbing the butter smeared onto it into the pads of his thumb and forefinger as he growls out words of arcane power.

Casting Grease on the floor under and in front of the silvery goo - squares bordered in red on the map. The Reflex DC to avoid falling is 16. That's my last spell slot - I hope it works!

As soon as he completes the spell, Garduk lurches back into motion, putting as much distance between himself and the goo as he can.

Sorry gang, been crazy busy last couple days.

Rolls:

Distraction on Lenny: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8

Reflex DC 16: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

As the team retreats, Lenny attempts to stop the goo, but misses his attack. Garduk casts grease to try to slow it, but it mainly just glides over the lubricant. The nanites cover the elemental as both the elemental and the silvery substance crackle from the contact. The combined effort buys the team some time to get ahead of the alien slime and move to the lower level and the hazard crate.

Okay...if I counted right, if you head straight down to the first floor/crate (circled in red) it will take 4 to 4.5 rounds of double moves. And Kulga would have 1 round head start, with everyone else 1.5 rounds to "set up". If you want to do that go ahead and move you tokens into position on the 1st floor and post you prep rounds.

As she runs along with Brayne, guiding the unconscious form of Pendleton, Veres calls to the team, "I've got my wand ready to heal Kulga. I don't know how many uses I will have before the goo is upon us. If Brayne can carry Pendleton by himself for a few seconds I can try to open the box so Garduk can focus on summoning the animal while the rest of you run past it."

CLW wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Of course Brayne can heal the group also, and he is stronger than I am and can likely carry Pendleton past so if he heals Kulga that is fine. I am just worried that she has less HP than the rest of us currently and needs healing.

Do you need a Fortitude save from Lenny? If so, here it is. If not, please disregard. As an elemental, Lenny is immune to poison, in case that's what it would be saving against.

Doesn't matter much, I suppose, since Lenny will be disappearing shortly.

Garduk catches up to Veres at the hazard crate and leans against it, breathing heavily.

"Are we really doing this? It had better work, because it's pretty much all I've got left."

The arcanist is bleeding from dozens of small cuts, and dark green splotches on his ordinarily light blue and green mottled skin mark deep bruises -- the damage from when he was caught in the goo. Garduk wiped a bloody hand on the inside of his cloak, then grabs a healing potion from his bandolier and quickly drinks it, looking warily over his shoulder for the onrushing swarm.

"Kulga, take Pendleton!" Brayne yells to the dwarven warrior, in hope he could free his hands.

I could draw my wand to heal Kulga, but that would take up both my rounds since it is a standard action for me to draw a wand with my curse.

If I have a second round to prep I can heal Kulga again. First time she got 4hp back... Round 1 open the crate, heal Kulga(Move and Standard), then Heal again, moving if necessary.

The party makes its way to the crate dragging the young Blakros, Lenny tries to delay the goo and is eventually sent back to the plane of air. Some healing goes on, on the way. The team sets up behind the crate as the silvery goo soon appears.
