Myrtella Sanova
|
Myrtella puts down the plank across the pit for others to cross.
| Terevalis Unctio of House Mysti |
I am assuming that everyone passes over the plank if they havent already jumped or climbed.
Vello Tiskan
|
On the other side of the pit, "Hmm...any of you able to detect magic on this cloak. Just to check to see if it is more than just a fine cloak."
Myrtella Sanova
|
"Ok, let me check it." says Myrtella, before her musical voice conjures up magic sight.
Tusk Grimdirk
|
Tusk realizes that he's the only one still in the pit. Shaking his head as Myrtella lays the plank across the gap, he climbs up the rope and joins the rest of the group, hauling his armor up behind him.
As he puts his mail back on, he considers the items left in Janira's pack. He takes:
- potion of barkskin
- flask of alchemist's fire
- flask of acid
- tanglefoot bag
- thunderstone
Avasir
|
Avasir joins in with Myrtella, curious if the cloak was more than it first seemed. He inspects the item for magical auras and properties.

"Roll for it?" says Myrtella, a wry grin on her face, as she pulls a pair of old dice...
She tosses them on the cave floor: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
"Rats! this blows! ah well... anyone else? or will my amazing 'three' be the winner? hmm?"
Vello Tiskan
|
"Someone else can wear it. I would prefer to wash it before I attempt to wear it. You never know, the previous person could've had lice or something."
Myrtella Sanova
|
"Okie dokie! let me try it!", says Myrtella, vigorously shaking the cloak to dribble out all imaginary lice out of it. She then puts it on and smiles, "What do you guys think? does it match my fur well?"
Adding +1 to saves 'till end of module...
Tusk Grimdirk
|
Tusk offers Myrtella a swig from his jug of ale as a consolation prize.
"Try a swallow of this. It does some of the same job as any old magic cloak, and it's almost guaranteed not to have any lice."
It helps one of Tusk's saves, anyway.
Avasir
|
"Yes, the cloak does look a little suspect, having been down in those spikes for however long. So, should we continue?"
I'm not seeing a map to know how we can proceed (i.e., is there more than one way to go or just forward?

About 50 ft. after the pit, the tunnel curves and you find a plank big enough to span the pit. The tunnels continue on, leading deeper beneath the Kortos Mounts until they eventually open into a large cavern. What must have once been beautifully carved reliefs and inscriptions have since weathered heavily, their features dulled and softened to the point that it is hard to distinguish what each once depicted. A wide tunnel exits the cavern on its far side, and blue-burning torches line the passageway’s walls.
The carvings here are different in style from the petroglyphs found elsewhere. It seems like there might have been a dozen carvings at some point, but only four are still decipherable. As best you can tell, they are images from the History and Future of Humanity, the principle holy text of Aroden.
Will add other stuff after class but map is up

"Here you go... you won fair and square... I guess... thanks for getting my hopes up only to shatter my dreams of fashion at the last minute, master dwarf! hmmph!" says the petite fox headed lady, turning her nose up.
Vello Tiskan
|
Vello goes to the four carvings that are decipherable still and rubs off any grime that might block the carvings fully. He examines the carvings to see if he notices anything about them.

These parables are slightly different than those that appear in the known version of the History and Future of Humanity, suggesting that these might represent an earlier version of the work.
Even though Aroden disappeared over a century ago, these caves store a hint of his divine magic (like a wand with a single charge left) that can impart a minor blessing to those who perform a short series of rituals based on the parables.
Myrtella Sanova

Myrtella pretends to be interested with the carvings and joins Vello.
"Would you believe that dwarf! how rude! beating a lady with her own dice! hmmph!"
She does end up looking at the carvings, using detect magic to see if anything is magical.

Vello chuckles. "Lady luck can be fickle."
With the assist of Myrtella at examining the carvings, Vello begins to understand 3 of them.
He points to the first one, "The Tailor is depicted sewing together a long cloth of featuring many patterns that wraps around a city like a moat, referencing Aroden’s proclamation that when the fate of all peoples is woven together, it shall be humanity’s greatest strength."
Moving on to the next one, "The Hunter is depicted slaying a giant serpentine creature and then parading a trophy through the city streets—a sign to all humanity that the wilds are safe to inhabit once the monsters are slain."
And finally to the last one he could decipher, "The Soldier is depicted bearing a lantern through the streets of a city, following the dead god’s prophecy that the vigilant shall carry light to the darkest corners of the world to banish the shadows. To complete the Soldier’s ritual, a PC must place a torch or other light source in the city."
"I see. These are holy scriptures for Aroden. The name rings a bell, but the gods are not my specialty."
Avasir

Avasir walks up to the runes, listening to Vello's interpretation so far as he begins to study them himself.
"I get a lot of jabs for my academic background, but this stuff I know." He smiles proudly.

"Vello is right about the first three. Let's look at the final one..."
"The Merchant is depicted weighing and trading coins of different sizes, a reference to the holy text’s proverb that peace brings trade and prosperity to all people."
Tusk Grimdirk

"The Merchant is depicted weighing and trading coins of different sizes, a reference to the holy text’s proverb that peace brings trade and prosperity to all people."
Tusk snorts. "Well, not all people. Some of us depend on a decided lack of peace to earn our beer money."
Tusk plants the end of his greataxe on the ground and leans on the handle while the eggheads look around at the cave drawings.
Tusk the Half-Orc
|
Tusk sees the dwarf scribbling in his notebook and sighs. I knew I forgot something!
Grabbing Janira's pack, he rummages through it until he finds the team leader's pen and journal, and makes some cursory notes about the carvings, then slams the book closed.
"There! We're exploring an ancient cavern, we cooperated to get across the pit, and now we're reporting. Looks like our job is done. Let's get out of here, find the boss, kill the minotaur - or run away, I'm not picky - and head back to the Pig's Paunch to celebrate our confirmation!"

he soft light of the surrounding fungus mixes with the flickering glow of the nearby torches to reveal a grand chamber. A large pool of water along the chamber’s southern edge reflects the blue and green radiance to illuminate the massive stalactites that cling to the ceiling overhead. Two other tunnels branch off from this area, leading to the east and west.
Rising up from the pool is a column of rock with steeply sloped sides and a flat top, as if someone had sawn off the top of a massive stalagmite. A miniature city carved from this same stone occupies nearly the entire surface. Tiny trinkets such as ancient coins, polished semiprecious stones, and ornately braided loops of string are scattered throughout the diorama, and pale cave frogs clamber atop it. The smooth cavern floor is covered in gravel and pebbles along the edge of the pool, and several foot-long centipedes prowl among the gravel in their search for prey.
This cavern is not unoccupied though. A lone gillmen kneels in the water, seeming thoughtful and unaware of your presence.
Vello Tiskan
|
"What a beautiful sight."
Vello walks up to the edge of the pool and then looks down at the gillmen. "Greetings. Sorry for the disturbing you, but we would like to ask you a few questions."
Tusk Grimdirk
|
Tusk walks over the edge of the water a few yards away, not so close as to interfere with Vello's peaceful overture but keeping his axe at the ready in case the gillman should prove to be unfriendly.
He looks out at the model city. "Pretty. Anyone have any idea what it's for?"
Myrtella Sanova

Myrtella moves in front of the gillman and extend her hand to shake is.
"Good day Sir! pleased to meet you!"

"Vello, let's try some of these rituals you deciphered!" says Myrtella excitedly.
Vello Tiskan
|
Vello nods, "Right."
Thinking hard he then comes up with an idea. He goes to the pool of water and picks up some clay. He then molds the clay into a bowl, placing next to the pool of water as an offering.
Myrtella Sanova
|
"Cool bowl! you're like, awesome with your hands, Sir Knight! tee-hee-hee!" says Myrtella, after which she casts dancing lights in the miniature city, using her innate kitsune magic.
Tusk Grimdirk
|
Tusk pulls out a silver coin and starts to toss it into the pool, but thinks better of it and stops.
"Any of you spell-crafters have a way to place this coin somewhere in the model more carefully than if I just chuck it at the thing? I figure that's probably right for the merchant Avasir talked about, and there are already coins in there."
Tusk Grimdirk
|
With a bow, Tusk hands Myrtella the silver piece.
Avasir
|
"The miniature city is a model of Absalom, by the way."
He then turns his attention to Tusk and Myrtella to see if what they try has any effect.
Myrtella Sanova
|
"Thankie Tuskie!" says Myrtella, putting the coin in the tiny city.

The gillman shoots Malcharion a look. He seems none to pleased with the human's invasion of the pool.
