Black Talons of Absalom (Inactive)

Game Master Dave Young 992

The Patchwork City is home to many kinds of people, and a source of wealth unseen in much of the world. Some people make it, others take it. The Black Talons are the second kind.

Dm did you want us to post the fluff for you as well cause wouldnt be hard to lay everything out for you

That's fine. I don't need an essay. A few paragraphs will do.

How are you choosing spots? First come, first serve? best submission? etc?

A few of us haven been rather involved in the discussion of the game, and I would hate for any of us to not get chosen for the game, myself included. It would be nice if us four made it in, with one of the newer applicants as our 5th.

Also, there's a list of optional feats for the arcane trickster available HERE. It's a whole $1.25

I love the concept of the class, but it's a little weak. The feats here (especially Street Mage) make it a lot stronger. With the fractional BAB we're using here, you could take just one level of rogue, and not even take a hit in your bab, compared to a regular sor/wiz, like you would with the regular rules.

I'm a little biased towards the class because it fits so well. Your bloodline or arcane school abilities would also progress normally at your caster level.

I get it. It's no fun to try real hard then get rejected. I think we've got more people than needed already, so some of them will get the boot.

I like a small group for many reasons, particularly in PbP. There are only 4 goblins in my other game, so everybody gets some face time, things move pretty fast as long as people post once or twice a day, and I have less to keep track of, myself.

I can't think of a real fair way to include everyone. I may just roll dice if I can't decide.

My best advice is to submit just the basics of the character you'd really like to play, given the setting, and see how it goes. I hate to pick and choose favorites, but that's what I'm going to do.

Got to go take care of dogs really quick lil info to flesh out Sidoze coming up

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I am finishing up my cleric2/rogue1 now. I was away from my computer all day yesterday, so I fell behind in the discussion, but still very interested. I never played an evil cleric before with negative channeling. I get the evil part, as in, I am a bad person, but by following a god of thieves, radiating death seems a bit harsh, but should be interesting. Selective Channel is a must as is a wand of cure light wounds.

More soon.

Our lovely contestants:

Raventhorn: Sidoze, 1/2 elf Rog(poisoner)1/Sor (sanguine) "Shot Caller"

Talomyr: Andrazi Zeldana, human Rgr1/Rog2(knife master) "Mechanic/Disposal Expert"

Ragathiel: Grigori Hammerfist, human Rog1/Ftr2 (brawler) "Enforcer"

Monkeygod: Kheldor, human Rog 1/inquisitor 2 (infiltrator) "Intel/Tracker"

Garrabot: Juno, human Rog 1(Chameleon)/Sor 2 (Rakshasa) "Charmer"

Jinchi: Adin Pegason, Rog 1 (Chameleon)/Bard 2 (Geisha) "Seductress"

Meowzebub: human Rog 1/Clr 2 (Norgober) "Papa Doc"

See how hard this is for me?

I'm cutting it off at this. Any more submissions will just make it harder.

@ Jinchi: Please punctuate!

Further info on Juno:

She'll be Chaotic Neutral, differentiating between evil and good decisions on a case-by-base basis. She wouldn't hesitate to off the last witness of an otherwise seamless heist, but she wouldn't necessarily support murdering a family in their home just to make robbing them that much easier.

If chosen, I'll probably want to adjust my spells known to synergize with what other abilities party members have. Juno is definitely going to be a bit of a social butterfly (or scorpion), but I don't want her to turn up completely useless when it comes to combat either ;/

Slowly but surely working on the character. Realized that I screwed up and built him with too many points. This profile now has the corrected attribute spread.

Question for the other potential players: Is anyone planning on taking advantage of any of the teamwork feats such as precise strike?

Character is all but 100% Completed, hoping to be picked. The only miffing thing is the avatar, but I can find a better one later this one will serve very well for now :)

Sorry Andrezi I know Im not maybe the fighter would like to later on but i dont get enough feats to take that plus Sidoze is not an upfront fighter

Anyways...as promised Sidoze's backstroy

Sidoze Backstory:

My name is Sidoze. Before you ask, no I do not have any other name. I never knew my father, mother said he was an elf that was just passing through. Hired her for the night and left the next morning. Yes, my mother was a whore, she died of a fever when I was six. I have been living on my own ever since.

I live in the slums and back alleys of Absalom. Nothing very glorious or nice here. Just pain, pain of living, pain of not paying your dues to the local toughs who own a particular street. But pain can be a great motivator. Growing up I saw how others used their power to influence even more people. The shopkeepers, the toughs, the city watch, all used their own power to make a living. Each preying on something or someone else even each other.

Being a half elf on the streets I was never popular with the other kid gangs, thought they'd attract attention from others and thus shunned me as well. But I worked my way up through life, it all started with a kinder shopkeeper, by kinder I mean he wouldn't beat me within an inch of my life, no he'd let me in his shop every once in a while so I didn't freeze, he was a Half elf like myself but he shunned others instead of them shunning him. He was a master of potions, people came to him all across the city for his elixirs. Even some very dark looking fellows that reeked of death came to him asking for special potions. I wanted to learn why they wanted those potions and so every chance I learned from him. Soon I saw that these don't heal people or some kind of love potion, no these were poisons, the kind that weakened large men to the strength of beggars. Poisons that crippled the healthy and rendered the intelligent dumb. So I took after my sometime benefactor and I soon had a talent for producing the more subtle poisons, the ones that rendered the guard unconscious and let others get by him without a scuffle.

This was a happy point in my life but this all ended in a great fire that was rumored to have been set up by some street gang out for revenge on my master for poisoning their leader. I fled that day and returned back to the streets using my new skills to eek out a life. This changed when I came of age though. I have always been lean of features and something about my brown eyes scared others, I could tell sometimes it proved useful. But on what I think was my sixteenth birthday power flooded into me. Power that scared people even more than my eyes. This power let me lift small objects through the air, produce lights with no fire, mimics a lovers voice, even sap the very strength from a man's body.

My name is Sidoze and I have no other name. I will make my own name. I will take whatever power I can seize and turn it into something other than just gangs on a street corner. I will force all to remember the name Sidoze, and all will bow to me.

Let me know if you like dm should I go ahead and make profile or wait until we know who is picked?

The reason I raised the point about choosing players was I had tried to get into a slightly similar game, though that seemed more focused on being assassins n such. I really, really like playing sneaky characters, and often have at least a small aspect in most of my characters.

Also, I'm Italian and playing in a game where I can bring my extensive knowledge of real world organized crime appeals to me greatly.

Aside from being the team infiltrator and intel expert, Kheldor is built to be a non magical face, so if I"m chosen, it might help to have a magical enchancer to compliment him.

One goal I have for him, which I will include in his backstory, is the desire to try and build a sort of alliance of criminal groups, which bas actually happened in the real world.

@ DM Kingpin,

If you need any help with the criminal/organized crime elements let me know. I have almost encylopedic knowledge of the Mafia, along with a fair amount of info about the Yakuza, the Triads and more.

No problems...just thought it might be something nice to take advantage of .

Okay, I'm just going to decide right now. First, it looks like all of you have games going on now, as players and even GMs. Jinchi is the sole exception. He (she?) has only 16 posts, and most of them are about trying to get in or start a game.

So, Jinchi's in. However, should jinchi (or any player) prove too sporadic a poster, or drop out, the other player here who got kicked out (Garabbott) will be able to play.

Everybody else is in, too. I'll try to deal with 6 gangsters.

@ Garabbott: There were 2 sorcerers, so that was the only redundancy. I'm not crazy about a necromancer type, but Raventhorn's been bugging me incessantly. Please stay tuned, though, because we all know people die or drop out, and you'll get the first shot at jumping in if that should happen.

I think 6 is too many, but 6 it is. I played a short PbP with 7 players (as Benicio, actually), and it only lasted a few pages. I have a bunch of aliases from games that died quickly. Looks like most of us do!

I don't want to do that to you. I'll have the discussion thread up soon.

tell me about it think ive had 4 games die at one time :(

Raventhorn wrote:

I know the feeling. The discussion thread is up, so please drop in and dot it, and if we're not all there pretty soon, garabbott has 1st dibs on the spot, so he should dot in, too.

I'll keep an eye out, but I don't frequent recruitment threads too often. Have fun everybody!

Please check into the discussion thread! We don't know who will show up and who won't, so you may be needed sooner than you think.

The Exchange

If a slot opens up I would like to join.

We have an opening for a fighter type. One level of rogue, but it doesn't have to be your first level. We're at 4th, and coming up on 5th. Standard gold, etc.

Peruse the game and discussion threads to see whether or not you'd like to play.

Hey there

I would be interested. I would not be able to join you until the weekend or monday (a good chance I could before hand, but I say that to be safe) I would be interested in making a straight Chameleon rogue.

Shoot me a PM and we can discuss more GM Gangasta!

I think of him as more of a secondary fighter, very stealthy, obviously. Probably go with Sap Master, sap adept and a feat that improves either stealth or bluff, most likely Deceitful. This gives an idea of the character, a very very very basic idea of course. But in order to really flesh him out I need to read more of the campaign so far, which I will if you are interested.

I certainly am.

will work on something tonight I may modify my RotRL chaarcter (Barbarian) and update to correct level.

also will need to get the character from Sandpoint to Absalom (that is how got to level 4 (or 5) (which ever it ends up being).

Are rogue levels required? or just suggested

At least one level of rogue is required.

GM Gangsta Kingpin wrote:

cool I'll make her Barbarian 3 / Rogue 1 (or is Ninja acceptable replacement for rogue?)

Dark Archive

I'm posting my interest here. It sounds a heck of a lot like exactly what I've been looking for in a PbP. I'm going to peruse the older bits of the recruitment, discussion and gameplay and see if I think I'd make a good fit.

My immediate thought is a Half-Orc Fighter / Rogue using Surprise Followthrough.

scratch ninja I like rogue better for the personality.

Dark Archive

Alright. I'm pretty sure the requested Fighter slot is a front line melee combatant. How would a Melee druid work out?

I'm between that and a traditional guy-with-a-stick fighter.

Just to make it clear, I put in the rogue requirement to reflect the characters' shady backgrounds and street-wise ways. It also won't hurt to have all those class skills for a bunch of sneaky, backstabbin' bastages.

Also, we do fractional BAB, so a sorcerer level gets .5, a rogue gets .75, and a fighter gets 1. A rogue 1/cleric 3 would have the same BAB as a rogue or cleric 4.

There's a feat for fighter types to add .25 to their BAB (thus having the same BAB as a straight fighter type, with a level of rogue).

gm. I know the charlatan rogue is not full fighter, but are you interested in him? If so I will work up a character sheet and can email it to you.

let me know

thanks!

We sort of have our "rogue-y rogue." We need a tough guy frontliner. An urban variant of any of the classes would work well, though anything's possible.

Make the character you'd like to play, and we'll see.

I might pick 2 characters. There are 3 now, so 5 would allow more variation in the party.

Hey GM GK.

I assume that I'm the "rogue-y rogue" that you are referring to, but as fair warning to you and those that might be looking to join, my next two levels are very likely to be Urban Ranger and from there go into assassin.

That being said I surely wouldn't mind someone else to do physical damage in the group.

Is this a feat that increases you general BAB by +.25 or just one levels worth? If I were playing a rogue and took that feat, would I have a +20 BAB at 20th level?

Just one level. It's a way for fighter types to keep their full BAB for the level of rogue. That way, you qualify for feats and whatnot when you want to.

Ok GM here is my roughed out submission. I know it is still rough, and many details to be hammered out, but the idea is there, I think it is obvious where I am going with him. I will do more with him but can't till tonight. Perhaps you can give him a cursory glance, and might be to tell me if you are not interested at all.

Ok here is my submission:

Noro Kasuri

Thinking a Lawful Neutral; eye for a eye, Hammurabi's Code type. His family were emigrants and killed for political reasons while he was away. He comes back to pick up the pieces and ultimately revenge. He understands the people responsible would not do the deed themselves, and they probably hired 'talent'.

Rogue 1/Monk 3, BAB +3. Moves freely through Absolom, no armor/weapons required. Though he does carry some. High Dex & Wis, for good AC, Reflex and Will saves, Stealth, Perception.

A different flavor that could offer some different story hooks. I'm confident I can build him or her if you'd prefer to go toe-to-toe with a fighter type.

Dark Archive

GM GK, how do you feel about campaign traits from other Campaigns. I'm thinking of taking World Traveler for one and a trait from Skull and Shackles for the other.

Any traits are fine, as long as they're from different lists.

I've been playing an idea for a dex-based duelist fighter type. Are all Paizo books allowed (e.g. Ultimate Combat, or Advanced Race Guide's alternate racial traits)? Thinking of a dip into Master of Many Styles (which, with the rogue level, makes it a bit multi-class chaotic). Probably end up going scimitar and Dervish Dance unless we start with enough cash to get an Agile weapon, so it doesn't take a hit to damage.

So I'm thinking: Human Monk(MoMS) 1/Rogue (Acrobat?) 1/Fighter (Weapon Master) 2. Another level of Monk then a couple levels of Fighter before going Prestige Duelist.

Not your traditional meat shield, but it might fit the setting.

Shadow Lodge

Hi GM I have 2 ready characters.

A melee rogue1/alchemist2 grenadier melee human cos every group needs a good demolition.

Also a.rogue1/Oracle 2 human dual curse battle mystery for combat and powress I can post very often and some of my phb is fizzling out. Check out my character for the fluff on the Oracle.

This is Mjindert, ready to act as a stong arm for the party.

I'm curious if we're going to start with the raven tattoos or if that's going to happen in thread? I'd kind of pictured Mijndert getting bored of bouncing and taking on a few jobs for the Talons. When he got initiated, he got the tattoo on his face, right near his eye. People tried to talk him out of it, but he grumbled something about not doing things half-assed. It's how he made a name for himself with the gang.

Any love for the Monk concept? Hungry Ghost for flay-va!

To answer some inquiries; I'm cool with agile weapons, but that's a +2. You'll start with the tattoos. And yes, I like the monk concept. Frontliner with a difference. Having so many class skills and skill points could make an interesting character. I haven't played with a monk in the party for years, so it's not inconceivable, just out of interest.

There are a lot of great characters here, already.

just wanted to re-iterate my interest

same submission as before: Noro

im going to withdraw, i dont think this character really fits with what your needs, perhaps later on

enjoy!!

Thanks for all the submissions. I'll look them over and decide soon.

Is it too late to flesh out the Monk? I can promise he'd make things interesting... LOL.
