The only exit is back the way you came, or up the shaft to the outside.

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

Looking up the shaft, does it look like, perhaps, a well? Like the one we saw outside, maybe?

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

Bingo!!!

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

Search for secret stuff. Rolled a 2.

Vethran Tallomane wrote:

Quite possibly.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

"One tunnel done. Let's go back to the intersection and check out the next one."

Larken and Dravite have taken a beating as well. I'll scratch all my 1st level spelles except Remove fear and cast three CLWs. Hudak gets 9 hp back, Dravite recovers 11 hp and Larken is healed of 10 hp.

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

"That's better. Let's ride out."
Hudak likes talking about riding now. It's fun.

Male Dwarf Ranger/7 XP- 35674

I be tinkin' dey wuz some type o' displacer bats. I could nae get me bearing on de beasts! I wanna be lookin' o'er dis place well....taking 20 for a 28 search.

Dravite doesn't find any evidence of displacer bats (go on, keep saying it, whatever makes you feel better) but he does find amongst the gnawed remains (some human in origin) a pearl ring, a surprisingly heavy sword of dull grey metal, a grimy hat, and coins adding up to 56gp.

Appraise, DC 15:

Spoiler:
The ring is worth about 300gp. The sword is adamantine.[/ooc]

Knowledge (Local), DC 20:

[spoiler]Judging by the distinctive codpiece on his leather shorts, one of the corpses would seem to be that of notorious local bandit Shaz "Redshiv" Bilger. There's a reward of 500gp for evidence of his demise in Sandpoint.

If you whack out a Detect Magic (now or later):

Spoiler:
The hat detects as magic (illusion).

OK, two more tunnels, one north and one north-west-ish.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

"One seems as good as the other. Let's take..." Alwyn looks back and forth between the two tunnel openings for a few seconds. "... this one." He indicates the NW-ish tunnel.

Sorry, this managed to get lost in the post above re the contents of the bat cave:

Knowledge (Local), DC 20:

Spoiler:
Judging by the distinctive codpiece on his leather shorts, one of the corpses would seem to be that of notorious local bandit Shaz "Redshiv" Bilger. There's a reward of 500gp for evidence of his demise in Sandpoint.

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

"I know nassink."

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

What form of sword is it?

Male Dwarf Ranger/7 XP- 35674

What type of hat is it, style-wise?

HP 78/67, AC 26, T 14, FF 23, CMD 21 Performance 37/37 CHA DAMAGE: 5

"Huh, nice ring. Bet we could get around 300 for a piece of work like this." Illes slips the ring on his finger for now and curls his whip up into a loop again. "Remind me again why we shouldn't just burn this hell hole to the ground before we are fighting a legion of undead plague bunnies next?"

Appraise: 15+2 = 17 (untrained)
Don't have Detect Magic.
Don't have Kn: Local, but maybe Bardic Knowledge: 14+6 = 20 ?

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

"Burning the house solves nothing. Anything down here can climb out the well - and dig their way out of the rubble. Anyhing down here must be killed. Or killed again, depending on their state."

Can I use Craft to evaluate the blade? If so, my check is 13+2=15 for Craft (weapins).

Well, it was a long sword in the book, but now....

A bastard sword.

Dravite Schorl wrote:

Tricorn.

Alwyn Agnarrson wrote:

It's adamantine, but otherwise doesn't look enchanted.

Illes Elandru wrote:

Yes, that'll do - you can read the spoiler.

The north-west tunnel leads down a twisting, narrow passage before it widens into a larger chamber. Beyond, the tunnel narrows down again, and a stange rumbling, sighing noise can be heard emeanating from it.

Listen, DC 15 (with an additional +2 for Stonecunning):

Spoiler:
The sound seems a bit like water moving in a large chamber or cave, with the odd accoustics changing it into the sinister breathing noise.

Spot, DC 19:

Spoiler:
Four small figures lurk in this room. They look like goblins, but their eyes glittr with a reddish, feral light and long claws dangle from their fingers. You are not surprised.

HP 78/67, AC 26, T 14, FF 23, CMD 21 Performance 37/37 CHA DAMAGE: 5

Illes crouches down over the gnawed remains and pulls out his everburning torch. "Huh," he stands nudges one of the bodies with a foot and says, "and that pretty much closes the book on the mystery of Shaz "Redshiv" Bilger. Remember that bandit hitting the road to Magnimar off and on for the last year?" Illes points down, "This is his ridiculous custom leather codpiece- far as I know there is still a reward of 500 gold crowns for proof of his death back in Sandpoint."

Listen 3+6 = 9
Spot 14-1 = 13

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

I don't see or hear anything.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

Listen 2+3=5. Spot 14+5=19.

"There! Goblins!" Alwyn shakes his head as he sets himself for a fight. "Are there any places that aren't infested by this vermin?"

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

Aww, sunsa....

Listen:7+6 = 13
Spot: 13+6 = 19

“Undead goblins it seems,” agrees Elisile, aiming her bow at the lead critter.

OK, Dravite and Veth, and then the carnage can resume.

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

Woo Hoooo!!!

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

Missed both checks.

Vethran 'hmphs' at the mention of the codpiece and the reward, oblivious to his surroundings until the others mention something.

Waiting for Dravite.

OK, the Listen checks are irrelevant for the combat, but if you failed the Spot checks then you are surprised (surprise!). So begins another combat in a cave - the very essence of D&D!

OK, the room is a sort of losenge-shape. A to I across the top, 1 to 7 down the side. It occupies the following squares: C2 to G2, B3 to H3, A4 to H4, B5 to H5, C6 to G6. Corridors lead of north, south and east at E1, E7 and I4 respectively. You are coming in from the south and can come as far as row 4. The little ghoulies at at C2, G2, C6 and G6. Please roll initiative.

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

Initiative r6+2=8.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

Initiative 7+1=8. At least I'm not surprised.

hp 87 of 87; effects active: mage armour (AC 22); gravity bow, flame arrow Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 4

Init 7+3 = 10

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

I'm up front, as I actually saw the little buggers. I'll take E5.

male Human Shoanti Fighter 10 xp 80962

Hudak'll take D4.

Male Dwarf Ranger/7 XP- 35674

1d20 7=12 initiative and surprised, standing by Elisile, just in front of her, protectively.

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

I'll take D6. Init: 8 + 2 = 10.

HP 78/67, AC 26, T 14, FF 23, CMD 21 Performance 37/37 CHA DAMAGE: 5

Init 13+2 = 15 (surprised)
Starting: E7 since he was lagging behind a bit to take the codpiece

Okie-dokie. Sorry for delays in getting going, but yesterday was not a fun day. It snowed and so I got into work, grabbed my computer and then headed straight back home again. So, actually, it wasn't too bad at all, on reflection, and I'm working from home today.

Init order:

Goblin ghouls 20
Illes 15 (surprised)
Dravite 12 (surprised)
Elisile 10
Vethran 10 (surprised)
Hudak 8 (surprised)
Alwyn 8
Larken 6

Positions so far:
Goblin ghouls C2, G2, C6 G6
Hudak D4
Larken F6
Alwyn A5
Vethran D6
Illes (the codpiece snatcher) E7
Elisile and Dravite ? (though Dravite is in front of Elisile)

Positions, please, and then the kneebiters have their go.

That's not something you hear every day.

Sorry for the delay, Elisile at F5 which probably puts Dravite at F4.
Lucky I rolled high on my spot check to see that goblin standing right next to me...

The little critters emerge from hiding, biting and scratching.

The ones in C2 and G2 move to C3 and G3 respectively, the others stay put. Only one hit - on Dravite. 5 damage and a DC Fort 13 save v Paralysis. Then it's Elisile.

Elisile Starbrow wrote:

It's those famous elven senses again....

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

"Bah! Back to your graves, foul beasts!" Alwyn brandishes his greatsword at the screeching critters.

Turn check 13+3=16, turn damage 9+5=14 HD. That turns undead with up to 6 HD; as always, those with 2 or fewer HD are destroyed.

hp 87 of 87; effects active: mage armour (AC 22); gravity bow, flame arrow Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 4

Elisile wheels about, drawing her thin bladed sword as she turns, and jabs it at the goblin-ghoul.
Rapier: 15+5 = 20. Damage: 4+1 = 5
I don’t have my map on me at the moment, but I believe she can reach an empty space in the middle of the group – E6? – with a five foot step. If so, she’ll take that step.

Elisile sticks the nearest goblin in the eye and it flops down. Alwyn once more invokes the dread might of Gorum and the goblins shriek and then explode, spattering everone in the room with reeking gore.

End of combat. Bit of a let-down really - was just warming up for some gremlin-style combat. "In the name of Gorum!" <BOOM!>

hp 87 of 87; effects active: mage armour (AC 22); gravity bow, flame arrow Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 4

“Your faith is … expressive, Alwyn Agnarrson,” comments Elisile, wrinkling her nose and flicking a string of gory flesh from her arm. “Which way forward? East?”

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

The goblins detonate before Vethran is even aware of their presence. When the proverbial smoke has cleared, he stares in disbelief at the smattering of gore covering his robes but quickly composes himself and gives Alwyn and enthusiastic thumbs-up.
