Gil wrote:Gil's not quite ready, I still need to pick a feat and her new 'Expanded Knowledge' spell. It can be up to 4th-level this time.I haven't even had time to look, but I'm open to suggestions. I'm leaning toward a Spell Penetration feat, also, but a Spell Focus (Illusion) might be good since I'm picking up Shadow * spells.
No ideas on the new spell yet, though.
I don't remember the Beguiler's spell list, so obviously if you already get these as class spells, don't waste your Expanded Knowledge on them. :)
My recommendations for 4th-level sorcerer/wizard spells, in descending order:
- 1.) Black Tentacles - awesome crowd control, good damage, but Ezreal often preps this, so you may not need it.
- 2.) Telekinetic Charge (Ultimate Combat) - very handy for getting people like Runzyl into melee to make a full attack action when their turn comes up or getting people like Ezreal or Janosz out of a hot spot. It also lets you hurl us across chasms and difficult terrain!
- 3.) Calcific Touch (APG) - requires you to get up close and personal, but combined with greater invisibility, you should be able to seriously cripple a lot of enemies with this.
- 4.) Stoneskin - expensive to cast, but considerably powerful, especially against massed enemies.
- 5.) Wall of Fire - c'mon, who doesn't love wall of fire? Provides concealment from ranged attacks and breaks line of sight for hostile spells and doesn't allow a save against the damage if you summon it directly beneath someone.
- 6.) Shout - sonic damage is hard to come by and virtually nothing resists it. Plus, deafening a spellcaster with a Fortitude save spell is a good way to give them some spell failure concerns!

We talked a while back about Spell Penetration - I just wanted to be sure you had remembered that, given you rely on spells rather than physical prowess and your CL is dropping back because of your PrC.
Yeah, unless you're a conjurer/summoner type of spellcaster, there's really very little reason NOT to take Spell Penetration, especially at level 10+.
| AinvarG |
Yeah, I'm sold.
Adding a level of Recaster
New hp: 1d6+2 got the minimum 5
+1 BAB (and therefore, CMB and CMD)
+1 Spellcasting CL (and access to 5th-level spells)
No change to saves
New feat: Spell Penetration, as discussed
Realized my skills did not include retroactive bonus points for INT bump at 8th level, so adding 7 (INT boost) + 2 (recaster) + 4 (INT modifier) skill points:
+1 Use Magic Device
+1 Spellcraft
+1 Perception
+1 Disable Device
+1 Bluff
+1 Diplomacy
+2 Fly
+1 Knowledge Arcana
+1 Sense Motive
+3 Acrobatics
New spell via Expanded Knowledge: Telekinetic Charge
Pending: Sudden Metamagic - need to see what the allowed feats are
I think that's everything.

I'm debating it.
I feel like I'd get more mileage being able to position and heal bomb closer to enemies, and possibly have to cut less people out of my heal bombs since I wouldn't have to factor in the location of the enemy as much.| Gil |
Personally, I'm in favor of you taking Selecting Channeling. I think Aubrey was reinforcing the fact that without my spells, I don't have much to offer in a fight. If I can't get through SR, I'm in trouble.

Once we reach civilization and acquire whatever wealth is needed to bring us in line with 11th-level characters, Runzyl is totally getting himself a suit of elven mithril plate crafted.
He has proficiency in heavy armor from his Fighter levels.
Full plate has a base Max Dex mod of +1, mithril brings it to +3 and makes it count as medium armor.
Armor Training 1 increases it again to +4 and allows him to move at full speed in medium armor.
Therefore Runzyl will be able to wear mithril full plate, move at his 40' speed, and utilize his entire +4 Dexterity modifer. I like it.

I've narrowed down my feat choices to Craft Magic Arms and Armor or Battle Blessing. Greater Aberrant Dragonmark can wait until 13th level.
If you take Craft Arms and Armor, you can make Runzyl's mithril plate. :D
I'm also going to need to see about acquiring a zaelshin tu between now and next level, as it's a prerequisite item for my next PrC. They're inexpensive, fortunately, but as a Valenar-specific item, they may be somewhat difficult to locate. Maybe I can get one from the group back in Sharn... assuming they don't all hate me by now.

Actually I was talking mainly to Heathy, but yes, it applies to you too. I was struggling slightly as to how Selective Channeling makes that much difference.

And what the hell is a zaelshin tu?
It's an amulet that bears an ancestral rune tied to the wearer and imparts a fraction of ancestral memory. Market price is 1800gp, it takes the amulet slot, and it grants a +2 bonus on Knowledge (History) and Knowledge (Nature) checks.
However, it's also a prerequisite for the Revenant Blade prestige class (Player's Guide to Eberron). Once you are a member of that class, the amulet allows you to select an additional feat with the class's Ancestral Knowledge ability.

Well, Rodergo actually has something to offer in a fight and he has his healing in addition to his spells, so I thought your remarks were to me.
If he's trying to channel to benefit the party, he currently has to position himself to reach party members and not reach foes or he will undo the damage that the party is trying to do. The best example is when we have folks flanking a BBEG - he can currently channel and heal one flanker or the other or he has to heal the bad guy, too. Selective channeling allows him to avoid affecting a small number of potential targets from his channel burst, so he can heal both allies and ignore the foe - he might still have to include other foes, depending on his CHA (?) and the number of enemies in range, of course..
| Green Giant |
I guess Craft Magic Arms and Armor it is. Caveat, Rolund's caster level will peak at 10th level once he gets to level 14 (Paladin 4 + Bone Knight 9 - 3 = 10) unless he goes into another class that continues his spellcasting progression.
So, there will be some items he will be unable to craft. As of right now, he can craft +2 weapons or armor. He could certainly craft a suit of mithril full plate for Runzyl, with Gil's assistance he could enchant it as a mithral full plate of speed.
Rolund will have to purchase some artisan tools to start crafting, preferably masterwork since he'll need all the help he can get on his rolls.
| Tenro |
well you shouldnt need crafting tools unless you are actually taking mithral and making it into armor first, which takes FOREVER even with good craft checks.
and if you are at a severe CL penalty (-3) it might be better to take something besides craft magic arms and armor. once the loot situation is rectified, most of the party will probably have +2 stuff.
craft wondrous might be better.

Hmmmmmm.......I'm back to thinking about it.
Sorry,.....can you tell I have trouble getting things past the point of contemplation?.......

Soooo... 40.000/6=6666,67. That's 66.667 gold pieces for each of us, before we sell off any other loot we may have found. Sweeeeet!
Can we upgrade items we own (mostly weapons and protective gear, I guess), or do we have to buy new ones?
Sixty-six thousand, six-hundred and sixty-seven gold pieces each. BEFORE other loot is sold and redistributed...
I think this may be the biggest hunk of cash ever dropped on me at one time in my entire gaming history. Not counting games which start at high levels and allow you to spend your starting gold all at once.
Man, I'm not even sure what I want to buy. It feels sacrilegious to upgrade Falla Caesenri, but perhaps I can see someone in Shae Lis who can further awaken the weapon's spirit (i.e. allow Aubrey to organically add properties to the weapon for the cost of the 'awakening' ritual).
Aubrey the Malformed

You can upgrade gear. However, bear in mind that may take a little time. I think crafting time is one day per 1,000gp of outlay. However, on the flip-side, commissioning stuff is probably the most sensible way to go about things (assuming you can't make it yourself) as powerful items of just the type you need are probably not just lying around. Unless you insist otherwise, of course, items can be made in parallel rather than sequentially, although there's also a limit to the number of spellcasters powerful enough for some items.
You can upgrade Falla Caesenri. You can do some rituals while picking up your medallion

Bwahahahaha!
Also, you need to finalise the amount of treaure officially. You've got the cash, but the amount quoted doesn't account for Marrius' share. And you have some other treasure which needs to be put in the mix.
Assuming there is any cash.

So - stuff. THere is a bit more than I remembered. I'm doing this from work, so I'll need to split the post - items now, and then the values later.
From the nightwing fight:
All the items were taken, so it's just the cash from here.
From the warforged fight:
- 8 +1 heavy crossbows
- 18 masterwork longswords
- 1 +1 greatsword
- 2 oils of Repair Serious Damage
- 2 Rings of Protection +1
- 1 wand of Scorching Ray (CL 3, 19 charges)
- 1 wand of Fireball (CL 5, 9 charges)
- 1 scroll of Black Tentacles (CL 7)
- 1 spellbook
Ezreal too the spellbook and the wands; the weaponry is unclaimed.
From the entrance to the Cannith bunker:
Amulet of Natural Armour +1
Breastplate +1
Sword +1
Big Crossbow = Great Crossbow +1 plus sights
Studded Leather +1
Shaft's Leather Coat = Studded Leather +1
Ring of Protection +1
Spiked Chain +1
Chain Shirt +1
Rapier +1
Eye Lens = Eyes of the Eagle
Janosz took the Eyes and Runzyl took the breastplate and the amulet. Everything else is unclaimed and can be sold.
IN addition to this comes the stuff from the artifact room - Gil's robo-suit, Rod's portable hole etc. But I don't think we'll sell any of that.
Vattnisse

So, the value of the loot is 2000 gold in cash from the nightwing, plus a total of 44380/2=22190 gp. In addition to this comes the value of the great crossbow and its targeting scope - I coudn't find the prices of either. It also doesn't include the potions, as we may have used quite a few of them.
So, 24190/6=6031 gold each.
In addition to this, Marrius is entitled to a share of the price of the totem. Thus, our reward gets split like this: 40.000/7=5714,29 platinum pieces.
Our final distribution is thus 6031+57142,9=63173,9 gold pieces. That's still a huge amount of money. ;D
| Green Giant |
You'll need to scratch off the great crossbow as well as the ring of protection +1 from the entrance to the Cannith bunker. They were given to Bor as part of his payment which were changed when Tenro took over his character.
You also need to take into account a share for Lightbringer. Even if he's not here and if/when he returns he'll probably be properly equipped, I find it hard to believe our characters would cut him out of his share.
| Gil |
Ezreal took all of the wands we found? What was I thinking when that conversation took place? Even with only a handful of charges, it would be good for Gil to have some offensive firepower like that - Ez can hit a lot harder than a minimum-level wand...
ithuriel
|
Muhaha! All the power!
Probably grabbed things like that while you were in the suit. I'm looking though and the only wands I have on my sheet are the old lesser orb of electricity and dispel magic, then from the facility three eternal wands: water breathing, wind wall and vampiric touch.
If you want to hold on to any or all of those that's fine with me. The vampiric touch one is the only truly offensive one I see unless I forgot to write something in.

yeah. the less gaming i get, the more i want. doesnt help that i am waiting for my new character to get introduced heh
Hey; I got a Carrion Crown game; 4th level, 25 point buy.
Mothy's paladin Castiel's been retired since he's been gone for months, and so the group is low on physical combatants.
There's a bard/detective, wizard, oracle, and cleric.
