retrieving items should provoke from me as, if we need to resolve that. And Vados will catch up if he starts to retrieve items and not continue moving. I did not realize so many people were on the streets. Telling lies and spreading negative propaganda is not surrendering...
"Shiv" Shivelhoff Slipshank
Wow! This guy has no respect! He ended up with an extra action. Acrobatics and then full rd action to pull and drink a potion. I should have my readied action and a full rd action available, Cindy should have two full actions and atleast one AOO, and Vados should catch up and have a full rd action. I agree with Cindy. This guy has gone too far and has shown no respect the entire way! Missing by 5 or less destroys an image. Cindy do you plan to take your AOO, cackle or attack, and attack? Vados do you plan to attack and/or grapple him? I will let Cindy resolve her AOO and 1st full rd action 1st. His word is crap!
Cindy Lu
Yes, Cindy will take an aoo if he is retrieving an item.
Greataxe: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 181d12 ⇒ 6
Image: 1d3 ⇒ 3
But overall I would rather just call it, and am willing to do so IF he becomes our prisoner and we can control him after.

If you hit or missed by less than five, an image should be gone. I will wait for his response then if you want this to go out of combat. He better find some humility and honor though or I am going to blow him up! Drinking the potion is a sign he is ready to continue trying to escape in My opinion.
GM Ascension
His pulling a potion and drinking it was after being chased for ~30 seconds, so Cindy isn't close enough at this point as both Shiv and the thief/thug were moving at 240' per round during that time. I will count that against him though as Cindy would have had 2 AoO opportunities. The AoO the round after he drank the potion he moved 120' (going around corners and getting to the main road). Cindy could have kept pace moving 120' herself, and when he ran north at that point this second AoO would have gone off. Its currently just Shiv and the man, though with Vados and Cindy closing fast. So he is down to just 1 image.
Ignoring Shiv's order to raise his hands in the air he continues talking.
Shiv may the charge if he wishes at any point during this.
Turning to one of the passerbys, "He wants to talk he says. And yet he still threatens to kill me. He claims of having multiple opportunities to kill me. In fact they have killed me once already tonight. Claiming the Mageocracy would give the almighty Merchants guild the power to choose who lives and who dies. Conveniently, there is no member of the mageocracy to backup this lie. The once proud and law abiding Merchants guild, now power hungry and kills whom they see fit."
"You have already stolen from me. And you speak of talking, how much time did you speak with my elven friend before you ambushed him slaying him without provocation. When I already know you will kill me your lies of false diplomacy are easy to see that these townsfolk are seeing the true nature of the Merchants Guild. You have no intention of letting me live despite your claims to justify such an unlawful act. Your morality has failed you. I stand before you with no weapons in hand. No tricks up my sleeve. And you bear down like a ravenous and bloodthirsty wolf. As a token of good faith, I will toss you one of my potions, which you plan to steal from me anyways, regardless, here you go."
He begins slowly reaching into one of his bags.
"Shiv" Shivelhoff Slipshank
Can I sense motive on him as a free action before I charge? I want to know what he is up to. Is he giving me the potion? I know you keep saying you think it is over, but if he keeps drinking potions I do not know if he is going to bolt again (haste) or if he is buffing to attack! I know the bluff roll is secret.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
GM Ascension
Sense motives are also hidden, rerolling for you.
There are about a dozen people watching the events taking place.
The crowds reaction is mixed. Some are giving Shiv dark expressions while others are shaking their heads in disbelief. Overall they appear to be leaning in favor of believing his story.
"Why would the merchants associate with thieve's, they are as much a target of crime as anyone."
"The greed of the merchants ever increases, the prices they charge aren't enough to satisfy their coffers."
Thinking he is going to be robbed anyway you believe he is attempting to divest himself of any valuables just so you cannot have them.
Given the length of his little speech Vados is now next to Shiv, and Cindy will be there in ~6 seconds.
The city guard are also about ~15 seconds away (the same ones who were part of the chase).
Just a note, the paperwork from the tower will cover you regarding any actions you take from the governments perspective. Public opinion, as you have surmised, may not follow with that though.
"Shiv" Shivelhoff Slipshank
I can't see the map on my phone. I charge to allow Vados either a charge or a move and grapple attempt this round.
Charge: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 2 = 17
Damage: 1d3 + 1 + 3d8 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (3, 8, 3) = 18
If I miss and destroy an image: I have destroyed your final bit of sorcery. A sorcerer does not need weapons to harm civilians like you harmed our baker and left for dead after you extorted him. These acts by the thieves cause you good people's taxes to go up! Now take your hand out of your bag trickster before I am forced to remove you as a threat to the people we protect!
Do I get an AOO if he retrieve a potion or just if he drinks it?
GM Ascension
"See! I do nothing to provoke and them and they move to strike me down. They fear not the revolt of the people. Whom will they decide to kill next, who will be in there sights that the justify them to come after you? You contest their prices and taxes and your life is forfeit. Hopefully my death at their hands will cause the people to rise up against these criminals!"
He steps back from Shiv.
"Why is the only speaking you know require bloodshed. These people as my witnesses see the criminal actions. They will share your actions with the city. And my hope that this will be the beginning of the end for those who murder in the streets."
Turning to Vados "You sir. Perhaps you are the only just person of your group. There has been enough blood tonight in the streets. You had the option to kill me but you choose a more compassionate method. If you will allow me give my my possessions to one these townsfolk. I will go wherever you desire without question. If this simple request is to much for you then I will become a martyr right here and now."
"Shiv" Shivelhoff Slipshank
Vados he lies! Subdue him before he harms civilians!
I will wait for Vados to either grapple him or move to allow a flank so I can finish him. My character knows he is not surrendering since he is drinking potions, destroying them, and speaking against our guild to hurt us. Why would citizens want his gear?
Vayga Glitterblade
Having waited some time without any sign of conflict Vayga looks through the gear on the fallen elf. Not sure if it will ever be enough to compensate the families affected by this criminal organization she takes all but the elf's clothing. Vayga wraps the weapons and equipment securely in her cloak and hides it in a stall to retrieve shortly. Carrying her fallen enemy she returns to the city guards. This brigand has fallen as is the fate of all those who threaten our fair city. I leave him in your hands.
After exchanging whatever information the city guards need Vayga takes her leave, retrieves her full cloak from the stables, and goes straight to the merchant guild hall to await her companions.
"Shiv" Shivelhoff Slipshank
Save your lies thief! You are under arrest for the beating and extortion of Jumal.(I am not sure if this is his name since I wasn't with the group then. Can you add the proper name?). As I mentioned earlier, you will be taken without incident if you do not resist or harm any more civilians. Your crimes and the crimes of your cronies will be tolerated no longer on the streets of Coran!. Turns to Vados. Hold him so we can bind him as we were commissioned to do by the government!
Move: pull silk rope from my Handy Haversack
Free: 5' step, drop said rope
Standard: Aide another for Vados to pin with a +2
Aid CMB: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
If he is surrendering and you are ready to go out of initiative, we can go ahead and roll the bind roll which I will assist Vados with. If he continues to resist, I guess we keep going.
Cindy Lu
Back from my marathon trip. What is the status? Do I need to enter melee or do we have a prisoner? Also, can you remind us of what all was going on in the city before this fight broke out? Seems like we had a couple of things we were going to do, include attend some city meeting? Plus I think we need to go and warn the merchant that the thieves were threatening. Maybe have some guards assigned to him, or put him into the equivalent of protective custody?
GM Ascension
As Vados leaps on him, grabbing his arms and holding him he drops the potion vial, letting it shatter on the ground. He does not resist being tied up but still doesn't shut up. "I go freely to my death, despite you targeting me with out cause. People of Coran, tell your friends what happened here. Do not be afraid of retribution for they cannot target all of you. Hopefully, my parents in Gumlat will hear of their criminal acts and bring it up with the mageocracy in a legal manner."
Those standing nearby are whispering and gossiping among themselves - not entirely sure what to make of this scene.
Physically he is tied up and helpless now. It would take him a full minute to try and escape the ropes, and would be obvious if he attempted it.
"Shiv" Shivelhoff Slipshank
Shiv reaches in his hip pouch and pulls out his papers from the Mageocracy. Citizens of Coran...I hold here the papers stamped by your government to apprehend this criminal for charges including the extortion of one of your very own merchants, Jamal. This man and the thieves guild brutally attacked and threatened the baker and his innocent family. He turns to Vados. Take him away. Have the girl help you. Holding the papers up and walking back to the people. (The criminal out of earshot) As you saw, not one of our group harmed a hair on his head. We even allowed him to drink a potion that made his wounds better. Please feel free to go and find his parents and let them know their embarrassment of a son will be in the city jail soon to answer to his charges. The merchant's guild will not allow this type of evil to go unanswered. We stand for order and your safety. Even now, the city guards approach!
Shiv takes time to allow interested parties to look at the papers.
"Shiv" Shivelhoff Slipshank
We can RP with the citizens if you would like. I am going to post my next actions if that is OK to help you move on if you are wanting to.[ooc]
After settling the business in the streets, Shiv heads for a local tavern. He purchases a room and heads up to freshen up. Damn fool! I should have just killed him. That is the price I pay for choosing to join the Merchants. After cleaning up, he works on a new disguise before heading back to the safe house for the interrogation. The Halfling slowly transforms into a human child.
[ooc]Do I roll the disguise or you? I should be +10 total with the use of a disguise kit and the minus for different race.
He get his things together and sneaks out of the building through the back door.
stealth: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (3) + 17 = 20
The young boy skips down a few streets until he is sure no one is tracking him. When comfortable, he heads to the safe house.
GM Ascension
Minor correction on details, the Duresu family were spice merchants - which is who I believe you are referring to as 'the baker'?
I roll disguise rolls, though you could take 10 if you want.
As Shiv approaches the by standers several back away and then hastily depart as they city members of the guard approaching the area. Those who remain take a look at the papers, and one woman is bold enough to approach the captive and spit on him. "You can rot in the prisons or better yet, hang." She moves off quickly though as the guard, panting and gasping reaches the group.
Everyone can assume they've reached the group as well, either ahead of or shortly behind the guards.
When they've had a few minutes to get their breath back the man in charge of the group asks, away from the ears of the prisoner, "Well I trust you've proof of this man being a criminal?"
"Shiv" Shivelhoff Slipshank
I have no idea who I have been talking about this whole time. I started right before this fight. I got the name Jamal from Cindy Lu out of game and just figured he was a baker because they were investigating a bakery when I arrived. Maybe I should let someone else RP the city guard.
Shiv turns to the city guard. Thank you for your bravery and your help. We would not have captured them without you. Here is the paperwork. Shows him the document. We will deliver him to city jail after we interrogate him. We will also deliver our report detailing charges. I will make sure we commend you and your men in the report!
I'll take 10 on the disguise. Will you roll a bluff check to use diplomacy here?
Vados Umbaran
As Shiv begins calming down the crowd, Vados begins to haul their prisoner away. Vados looks at Cindy, and beckons her to follow him with a quick snap of his head.
How far is the Guild from our current location? If it made any sense I'd like to keep him in custody there, but are we required to take him to a city guard house?
"Shiv" Shivelhoff Slipshank
How far is the Guild from our current location? If it made any sense I'd like to keep him in custody there, but are we required to take him to a city guard house?
We should take him to our place and interrogate him as well as strip him of gear before we return him to the city jail with a report on our findings.
GM Ascension
Not required to take him leave him with the city guards - though you can be sure the mage group is going to want to get their hands on him at some point.
"Does that paper have my name on it? does it have a description of me? And who is this spice merchant you are speaking about? Where is your proof..." The last is muffled as Cindy throws the blanket over his head and cinches it loosely around his neck to keep it from coming off.
"Based on these papers you are clear, but a higher up is going to need to discuss this with you. I'll need to provide them with the information on where to locate you at." The guardsman clearly doesn't want to get to deeply involved with this because of the political nature of it. He is more than happy to foist that off on someone with more authority to deal with. "You will be required to make recompense though for the property damage that resulted in your apprehension of this criminal."
This is going to be the minor amount of 200gp for the broken window, and from Aria's lightning bolt hitting another building.
I'm assuming you are heading to a safe house that the merchants guild owns. You can begin interrogations now if you wish.
Vados Umbaran
That sounds good, take him to a safe house. So who is here with him. Just Cyndi and I? Cyndi, do you want to take point? I'm happy to be the point man, but I have pretty low cha, so I don't know if you have any better skills in diplomacy or intimidation. I am happy to knock him around, a bit, if it comes to that.
Cindy Lu
Garion is our face. I have the same Chr that you do. We have the item that bumps it by 2 but that is not significant for either of us. My desire is to go to our guild hall with the criminal and report in and see what instructions we get. I really have no questions for this guy. What should we ask him that we do not already know?
Vayga Glitterblade
Vayga feels a deep sense of satisfaction seeing her friends returning with that loud mouth villain in hand. She thinks of all kinds of terrible things she'd like to do to him and decides it's much smarter to stay in the other room where she can remain calm.
As soon as the others are ready she'll join them to discuss the situation with the guild leaders and/or Mageocracy.
GM Ascension
Taking the captive to the merchant's hall genders a number of looks from people on the street, though all stay out of the way of the procession.
Raseb quickly arranges for a place to hold the prisoner. The guild hall doesn't have any formal cells for doing such but an inner room with half a dozen guards at attention, the prisoner tied to a chair, will do for now.
Closing the door on the prisoner to speak to you in private Raseb gives a smile. "Looks as though you've had a successful day. This is one of the men who threatened Mr Jumai?"
"We can't hold him here indefinitely of course, but I have no doubt the tower will send someone over to put him in a more permanent and secure location."
"There are a number of pieces of information I should like to glean from the man if possible. Who are his associates and where can they be found? Have they threatened any of the other merchants under our protection? Were they planning to?"
If the prisoner is going to be questioned off screen, is there any information you'd like to pass along to the mages when he is turned over to them?
Cindy Lu
I can't think of anything I would hold back. Tell them everything we know, leaving out our treaty with the "friendly" thieves IF our guild wants that left out.
I would like to meet with the mages again soon. Cindy requests. And make sure they know that this prisoner was pretending to be one of their own while committing crime in the city. She describes the person the ninja was impersonating.
Vados Umbaran
Vados bows to Master Raseb and says, "Sir, I wish to be present for the questioning. I would also like to be a part of his transfer to the Mages. This prisoner was...hard-won. I simply wish to ensure that there are no interruptions while he is in our care."
If the group would rather not stick around, though, I'd be happy to amend my statement above.
GM Ascension
If it is amenable I think actually having both your group and the mage group present at the same time for questioning (along with some NPC merchant guild questioners). Largely just trying to organize the logistics of inter-party activities. I believe the mage group is in a good position to meet up if your side is good with it.
Vayga Glitterblade
Vayga seems on the verge of attending the interrogation. After pacing back and forth in front of the door, pausing to shake her fists at it from time to time, she finally makes up her mind to go take a nap. Someone wake me up when something needs protecting she growls to no one in particular as she stomps off.
Vados Umbaran
That's good with me, having the Mages here as well.
Vados moves a bit closer to master Raseb and speaks in a softer voice (though not whispering).
"Master, with your permission, I think it may be fitting to coordinate some extra protection with the other Myrmidos. I would be willing to liase with them if you so desired."
Vados turns to the group.
"Vayga does have a point. We are not at our best. Perhaps some of us should try to take some rest, if possible. I would not want our quarry lost due to negligence on our part."
GM Ascension
While waiting for the mage representatives to arrive Raseb summons an inquisitor of Abadar to assist in the questioning. "Shiv, Master Sorrin has requested your assistance with a delicate matter he is involved with."
The Sorrin's are the most powerful merchant house, holding the first seat of the merchant hall.
"I'd like to introduce the rest of you to Amon Pitati. He will be joining in you rooting out crimes against our interests."
Amon will have to provide a physical description as that isn't in his profile yet.
It isn't long before representatives from the tower arrive.
Raseb greets them formally and takes those interested into the inner room where the prisoner is being held tied to his chair. He gives a nod to Cindy and says "I will be available should you need anything."
Still waiting for a list of which/if any disguises the mage group comes to question the prisoner in. They have also had some group changes, but there are five of them. The annoying human with twin short blades who was impersonated by the prisoner is not among them.
Questioning may not commence.
Amon "Al-Shaitan" Pítati
Before the Mage group enters:
A hooded man approximately 5'11" stands next to the inquisitor of Abadar. His pale complexion mixes a hue of dark blue with drab grayness. Most of his facial features are well hidden in the shadows cast by the hood of his sand colored cloak. His breastplate is a ceremonial golden scorpion carapace. A silver symbol hangs from a chain on his neck and rests on his arms which are crossed at his chest. Black leather gloves adorn his hands. At the introduction, he bows his head slightly to his new companions.
As Raseb said, I am Amon. He speaks with a thick middle eastern accent.I have been this gentleman's apprentice for the past few months. <motions to the Inquisitor of Abadar> I am now assigned to aid you. I have been caught up on the group's activities. Congratulations comrades...you have made the Guild proud with your recent heroics in the square. A crooked smile appears in the shadows of his hood. I look forward to getting in on the action. He catches each of the party members' eyes before turning to his mentor. My superiors call me Al-Shaitan.
I will await the others before proceeding with the conversation in the room.
GM Ascension
The dwarf and the hafling are among the mages servants, the man who was impersonated is not. There is also a beautiful woman with pale alabaster skin and piercing blue eyes. Another man with a number of battle scars on his face and blood shot eyes dressed in full plate and carrying a bardiche accompanies them. His hair is flecked with gray. The last is a man with black hair, a few inches short for the average human. A well kept mustache and beard hide much of his face.
The woman, blonde hair spilling over her shoulder, strides over to stand in front of the prisoner. "Before we begin, I want you to understand something." She launches into an incantation and the cords of magic weave around him.
She has cast howling agony.
Vados Umbaran
Vados bows lightly to Amon.
"Your presence is welcome, sir."
Vados turns to the inquisitor.
"You will be taking the lead in the interrogation then? Have you been briefed on the situation? We may have only a short time before the mages arrive."
