Amanorn Preyedan |

"Oxygen may be a finite resource down here, Zin... I...I should have prestidigitation cleaned that. My fault for not thinking of it earlier."
Burnt seaweed smelling delicious compared to old fish, he breathes in deeply.
"Oh well, worth it."

Sundakan |

Amanorn looks at his now dry socks.
"Fair enough. So, now that we see this place has a motif, what do you think we're dealing with? Gillman? Merfolk? Undies? Ye Gods, I hope not Aboleth! The Skum don't seem the type to run things."
Actually...
Amanorn Spellcraft: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (11) + 18 = 29
Amanorn recognizes the "bubble" on the entrance as an ancient Aboleth spell known as "Sea Lock", a variant on the classic Wall of Force that allows determined individuals to pass through slowly, but stops omni-directional forces (primarily water) and items moving above a pre-determined threshold of speed (projectiles, primarily, but melee weapon swings as well).
However, it appears to have been set in place on a Permanent basis, and this place IS remarkably old.

Amanorn Preyedan |

Amanorn relays what he remembers to the rest, and then mutters "F***ing Aboleth. So...um...Jones, any potions for upping willpower of people? Because you know those mind bending giant fish freaks love to dominate people, and I would rather not have Sledge pull my spleen out, Zin...get even more aggressive with me, nor Darius turn me into a chew toy or you pincushion my kidneys."

Jones Shei'lac |

"Hm?"
Jones turns to Amanorn, having been quietly studying the room while everyone was talking.
"Well, I could prepare one more Heroism extract, but I don't have anything else for that sort of thing."
"I can, however, make sure that we won't be ambushed."
He prepares an Alchemical Allocation extract and uses it with his Elixir of Vision.

Jones Shei'lac |

Oh, I'll also boro bead my Shield.

Sundakan |

So assuming that's a no from everyone else then.
As if to prove Jones wrong, as soon as he finishes using his Boro Bead (and BEFORE he drinks the extract), you get ambushed.
Two strange, wrinkled, human sized creatures with far too many fingers on its abnormally large hands appear from nowhere in front of you (Spellcraft recognizes this as Dimension Door). Their skin writhes and crawls, and their fingers slither over each other in sickening ways, forming patterns man was not meant to see.
In your surprise at their arrival, your minds are assaulted by the alien presence once again.
DC 15 Will saves or 2d4 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3 San loss.
Current battlefield arrangement has Jones and Amanorn at the front, Zin close behind (Jones and Amanorn came through first, and in moved forward to slap Amanorn) with Darius and Sedge behind them. The creatures (Planes identifies) are right in front of Jones and Amanorn.
Inits: 5d20 ⇒ (6, 13, 15, 11, 5) = 50
Inits: 2d20 ⇒ (1, 8) = 9
Darius (22)
Jones (21)
Sledge (16)
Wrinkly 2 (15)
Amanorn (14)
Zin (10)
Wrinkly 1 (8)
Darius, Jones, and Sledge are up. Sledge, you do not have a space to charge at the one next to Amanorn. The chamber widens beyond them, but it's still fairly narrow where you are (~12.5 ft. wide where they and Jones/Amanorn are, 5 ft. wide elsewhere). You can squeeze into a space next to one but would take penalties and an AoO.

Jones Shei'lac |

How rude.
Will+insp: 1d20 + 12 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 12 + (5) + 2 = 20
Kn. Planes: 1d20 + 12 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 12 + (5) + 2 = 29
Jones attempts to slip past the creatures without provoking.
Acrobatics+insp: 1d20 + 18 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 18 + (4) + 2 = 25
Then he stabstudies one.
1d20 + 20 ⇒ (15) + 20 = 35
1d6 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
Thanks dice, I didn't want to let all this inspiration go to waste.

Jones Shei'lac |

Actually, I can't Study becausue I used an immediate action to add inspiration to the will save. So subtract 4 from the attack and damage rolls.

Darius Ral'algul |

You dont have to worry because I dont think you can study
Ninja'd.

Sundakan |

So Jones and Amanorn eat some SAN loss. Can you guys write it down on your sheets like I asked Zin to earlier, please?
Between Jones, Zin, and Darius, you know basically everything there is to know about Dimensional Shamblers.
They can Dimension Door at-will, and still act normally after teleporting, and like to grab their prey. And then go on little jaunts to other planes with them.

Jones Shei'lac |

No inspiration allowed?

Jones Shei'lac |

Then I will take back BOTH of those nat 1 inspirations, thank you very much.

Sundakan |

Remember, skill checks don't auto-fail on a 1.
But that fails in multiple ways anyway (you have to squeeze by, which gives penalties, and you needed a 27 anyway) so good call.
Jones tries to slip by but gets slapped back for his troubles. And Grabbed.
THE EAGLE CLAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27
Damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 3) + 5 = 14
Grab: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (4) + 19 = 23
14 damage and you are now Grappled.

Samuel Sledge |

Can I not get a charge even with Dragon?

Amanorn Preyedan |

Amanorn grabs his head and starts to freak out just a little.
"Teleporting...mutant...crazy...with the aboleth...ugh...and I'm under here...ugh...what the...Agggh!"
Can sanity be regained?

Samuel Sledge |

Ah, thought they were a little farther away. Also.
San?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Since talking is a free action...
"Jones, if I grab one, and it teleports, will it be able to teleport out of my grasp?"

Darius Ral'algul |

" These creatures are pure evil! They like to port in and assail people.. then leave with them in their grasp, Like Jones is now! Amanorn himself is acting strange, they must have some other effect. "
Darius moves up to the on grabbing Jones and whips it furiously in the attempt to make it drop him.
Powerful Mutagen Shambler Bane Grimoire Whipping: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34
Powerful Mutagen Shambler Bane Grimoire Whipping: 1d3 + 13 + 4d6 ⇒ (2) + 13 + (4, 6, 5, 6) = 36
Moves next to Zin, behind Jones, whips the one holding him, Bane Evil outsiders.

Amanorn Preyedan |

If Jones is still grappled after Darius's assault, I will cast Grease on Jones to give him an escape bonus - if not, I'll just full-attack someone full of arrows. This message brought to you by "if I get busy before my turn comes up"

Sundakan |

Amanorn grabs his head and starts to freak out just a little.
"Teleporting...mutant...crazy...with the aboleth...ugh...and I'm under here...ugh...what the...Agggh!"Can sanity be regained?
A few events restore SAN (defeating the Colour Out of Space restored a few, so Zin no longer has any damage). The SAN loss can be cured by greater restoration, heal, limited wish, miracle, or wish (whether before or after you go insane doesn't matter; If Insanity is cured, all Sanity loss is restored as well). You can take a number of points equal to your character level + Wis mod before suffering any ill effects.
Jones shanks hard, and Darius whips it good. The creatures do not scream nor show any outward sign of pain.
Sledge is up before one of them.

Samuel Sledge |

Sledge shrugs and hits the one grabbing Jones.
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22
1d8 + 24 ⇒ (1) + 24 = 25
Snack style up.

Sundakan |

Sledge squeezes into the space next to the Shambler, and the tight quarters cause him to miss.
You're taking a -4 to attack and AC in this space. Next turn you can move out and around it (NOT 5 ft. step since it halves your movement).
The Shambler grabbing Jones attempts to lock him down.
Maintain Grapple: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26
Pin?: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (5) + 19 = 24
Jones is now Pinned, arms pulled behind his back.
Zin and Amanorn!

Zin'Retatarianna Mor |

Z unleashes two rays of fire at the shambler holding down Jones.

Zin'Retatarianna Mor |

"What are you doing? That spell looks like it belongs in whatever weird stuff you get up to in your bedroom, not the battlefield. Shoot the thing."
-Posted with Wayfinder

Amanorn Preyedan |

"I am not certain I'll kill it in one shot since even Sledge hasn't accomplished that feat with these things. I am however certain that spell will allow my friend to escape it's grasp, as well as prevent him from being grabbed. If you're worried I haven't left enough for you and whatever debauchery you're alluding to, I can pearl of power it back for whatever idea you had in mind, but it will have to wait, as I may have to grease another man up yet."
Grease gives like a +10 to escape grapples.

Zin'Retatarianna Mor |

It also leaves it alive to try to Teleport away with Jones.
-Posted with Wayfinder

Amanorn Preyedan |

Yeah, again, if Sledge couldn't one shot these things, there's no way I can. I'm a controller, not a damager. My spells are stuff like haste, glitterdust, grease, create pit, stinking cloud, invisibility. I'm not a boom stick. Figured with you on the team they didn't need that. My bow damage is okay, but mainly icing to add onto the spell cake. If I were a spell level higher I would dimensional anchor it, but alas...multiclass.
Plus, aside from magic missle...which I used in the water...My spells that do hurt, like burning hands are mostly area and would hit Jones. All tailored to imbue arrow, which requires AoE spells.

Zin'Retatarianna Mor |

Retcon to empower the Ray then.
42 increases to 63
Z sighs at Amanorm before throwing a third Ray absent-mindedly at the creature.
-Posted with Wayfinder

Sundakan |

Zin's second shot staggers the poor, wrinkled bastard.
The third annihilates it.
The remaining Shambler snatches at Amanorn as he flees.
AoO: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
...And fails.
It turns its attention to Sledge.

Grab 2: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (16) + 19 = 35

To great success.
Sledge take 28 damage, and it actually manages to Grapple you.
Edit: One sec, my bad.
Sneck?: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (8) + 21 = 29
Make that 13 damage and Grappled.

Jones Shei'lac |

Jones shivers as the Shambler's burnt husk slips off his greased body.
"Hm. Well, I appreciate the effort, Amanorn."
He then begins attacking the remaining Shambler, flanking with Sledge.
1d20 + 22 ⇒ (9) + 22 = 31
1d6 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
1d20 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18
1d6 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
F!+! you too dice!!!!!!

Amanorn Preyedan |

Pearl of Power and now we have a greasy hobo!
"You can't touch this!"
Amanorn's pants are strangely baggy.
Almost...parachute-like.
perform (dance): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17
Amanorn does a surprisingly good running-man.

Samuel Sledge |

Rather than break the grapple, Sledge elects to break the creature.
1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 12 - 2 = 24
1d8 + 24 ⇒ (5) + 24 = 29
1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 12 - 2 = 26
1d8 + 21 ⇒ (6) + 21 = 27
1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 - 2 = 8
1d8 + 21 ⇒ (8) + 21 = 29

Amanorn Preyedan |

Oh well. Grease will still make you harder to pin, swallow, or whatever....If it survives. Plus, I can have a running gag about you never having washed the grease off. Fine,I'll just full attack next time.

Sundakan |

Wait, Jones is flanking now?
Yes. The one that was grappling him was "Wrinkly 2", which was on the right. Wrinkly 1 is the one Sledge is squeezing next to. Jones is now occupying the space "Wrinkly 2" previously occupied, flanking "Wrinkly 1" with Sledge. For future combats in this area I'll put the map up.
Sledge smacks it hard, twice. He notes a difficulty in damaging this one.
I forgot to note, they had DR that absorbed 5 damage from everyone's attack (I don't think anyone can overcome Alignment DR yet? It's DR/Lawful in any case), but it didn't turn out to be relevant since Zin blasted them for enough damage to make up for it and then some. It does mean "Wrinkly 2" is merely unconscious rather than dead currently though.

Darius Ral'algul |

Darius mercilessly ends the creature.
Powerful Mutagen Shambler Bane Grimoire Whipping: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34
Powerful Mutagen Shambler Bane Grimoire Whipping: 1d3 + 13 + 4d6 ⇒ (3) + 13 + (1, 3, 4, 4) = 28
Secondary Powerful Mutagen Shambler Bane Grimoire Whipping: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Secondary Powerful Mutagen Shambler Bane Grimoire Whipping: 1d3 + 13 + 4d6 ⇒ (2) + 13 + (1, 4, 3, 4) = 27

Samuel Sledge |

Note that I pummel, so the DR only applies once.

Zin'Retatarianna Mor |

Is it dead? Assuming it's not Z gives it a taste of the Ray of Scorching as well.
Ray: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 11 - 4 = 14
Damage: 4d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 6) + 4 = 20
Ray: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 11 - 4 = 18
Damage: 4d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2, 6, 3) + 4 = 18
I included the bonus for it grappling in my attack roll, which I did last time as well but thought my attack value was one lower than it is. And included the - 4 from Sledge being in melee, which I forgot to do for the last one, but both rolls were still high enough to hit.

" Feh, that would not be you, When they attempted to leave I or Sledge would have ended them as well... Your contribution was noted Zin. Do you need to be thanked for every thing you do? I have spoken to him and need to do so to you as well. "

Zin'Retatarianna Mor |

"I was more looking for recognition from the one who personally objects to my methods."
"But now that you mention it, I have to admit, I probably wouldn't mind some applause every once in a while."
"I mean, I am a little unique. Yourself, Sledge and Jones all fight stuff."
"Ananorm apparently specializes in covering people in questionable fluids."
"And I'm the embodiment of fire. I do stand out a little, if I'm allowed to say so."

Samuel Sledge |

"Standing out is unwise. It makes you a target. Smart enemies target the person who can use magic, because you rarely know what to expect from them. You rarely know what to expect from an experienced fighter, but I don't expect you to understand that."
"Imagine if those things had strategized a bit, and teleported in right by you, fearing your magic - and it is obvious that you are a magic user. They'd shred you. Be subtle."
"And remember, you are not the embodiment of fire - you a human who is unlucky enough to be cursed and lucky enough to be good at a particular brand of magic. We are all mortal. We cannot afford to forget that, especially not here."

Zin'Retatarianna Mor |

"Heyyyyyy" says Z with a pout.
"Don't be so dreary, I was only playing around."
"Besides, trying to find the silver lining in being slowly consumed by fire is probably the only thing keeping me sane."
