Welcome to my new campaign. The setting is the kingdom of Leyland, a free and proud country, going through turbulent social changes.
A brief write-up on the campaign setting can be found here.
This write-up is deliberately brief. The campaign world is not fully detailed. You are, in a way, "alpha testers" of the ideas for this setting, as the concept continues to evolve.
You are all heroes who have been called upon by Lord Wallingham. He summoned you to his country estate to investigate some vague "disturbance." He is known as a noble and honorable man who cares deeply for the welfare of his people.
4th Level.
Ability scores: 20 point buy.
2 traits.
Standard wealth by level.
HP: max at 1st level. Beyond that, you can choose to roll or take the average (rounded up).
Races: All races described in the write-up are fine. For anything else, you will need GM permission, as I may not have decided on how that race integrates into the world.

Excellent! I was hoping for an alchemist in the party!
For those undecided, bear in mind there is also strong Roleplaying potential with an "old guard" character. Perhaps an elf or halfling, perhaps a druid, ranger, or wizard, or a high-born human paladin or cavalier. Having a clash of worlds within the party would be colorful.

Orthos |

Been a while since I played a Gnome, and they're one of the more out-there core races so that appeals to me in a mostly-core-only game; Tiefling would be my second choice, so I might flip between the two as suits.
Need to let a concept rattle around in my head a bit before I commit to a class beyond that. Time to dive into the Massive Picture Folders (TM) for inspiration!
EDIT: Hmmm, thinking an Inquisitor, and leaning more Tiefling now. Haven't managed to play an Inquisitor for longer than a single session one-shot before. Just need to decide if I'm preaching the old ways or the new.

Orthos |

It currently measures 1.24 GB and contains over 5000 pictures, separated by race (for most PC races) and type (for most monsters). Nine times out of ten, unless I have a concept screaming at me from the get-go, I go to the Folders to find a suitable picture as a starting point, and backtrack from there.
Speaking of, I think I've found one. Tiefling Inquisitor it is. Just need to work on backstory, religion, and such now.
Question: do I need to burn the Fiendish Heritage feat to take the alternate bloodlines? I've always thought that was odd that they have to do that when Aasimar seem to be able to choose an alternate bloodline freely.

Question: do I need to burn the Fiendish Heritage feat to take the alternate bloodlines? I've always thought that was odd that they have to do that when Aasimar seem to be able to choose an alternate bloodline freely.
Huh. That seems like such a silly feat. The alternate bloodlines are no better or worse than the default one. I would say you can pick one while foregoing the feat.

The more I look at it, the more I like the idea of Shelynite Inquisitor who's on neither side but trying to see the appreciation of both. Could maybe be the liason between the folks in the old camp and those in the new? Party peacemaker, that sort of thing. Thoughts?

Of course, some people might not see a conflict at all. Conflicts at a societal level do not necessarily have to be played out at an individual level. In other cases, it may be under the surface for purposes of civility, etc.
At any rate, I am liking these concepts so far.

Definitely on the creepy side, Orthos. I like the creativity!
To recap, we have currently:
Orthos: Alastríona Eichmann, tiefling inquisitor
Treppa: half-elf alchemist?
Taig: gnome or dwarf gunslinger?
Tordek: possible elf druid?
DSX: something hoity-toity.

Done some development on my backstory, but trying to complete it before offering it up for editting.
Definitely Human, possibly a cavalier/paladin - but it depends if there is any area's we need to cover.
Oh and Treppa and my character might be half-siblings.

DSX, tribal elves would have to be foreign. The ones in Leyland tend to be civilized - even those that revere nature.
Cavalier, paladin, or even fighter would be good choices for a character that can go toe to toe with Bad Things. Just because there are guns doesn't mean there is no need for melee. (Although, as it happens, all those classes have martial weapon proficiency and can therefore freely use guns if the need arises. Always good to have a ranged back-up weapon, after all.)
Sounds good, Tordek!

Orthos |

That reminds me, CH. Inquisitors normally get several ranged weapons' proficiency for free - "An inquisitor is proficient with all all simple weapons, plus the hand crossbow, longbow, repeating crossbow, shortbow, and the favored weapon of her deity" (in Trina's case, Glaive). With the changes to firearm proficiencies in Leyland, would guns be added to that list or not?
Normally I plan on her being up front and smacking things around with polearms, but a ranged backup option is definitely not a bad idea, and I'd like to know what my options are =)

Rhodes Rhomaino |

"Perhaps I could be of some service to you. Perhaps, though, you could be of more service to me. You may call me Mister Rhomaino, only friends are allowed to call me by my first name."
Tentative on this character build for right now. I have yet to choose bloodline or whether this is my final stat array. I'll toy with it some more and have it final sometime in the future.

Well, it sounded like he was going more aristocratic, and horse-breeding among that set is still a proud tradition. Engineered modes of transportation, apart from large-scale methods like locomotives and the occasional ironclad ship, would be one-off prototypes and experiments. A mechanical horse would certainly turn a lot of heads, and many people might regard him as mad. (It's a matter of practicality; a steam-powered horse would be considerably more expensive to develop and maintain than an actual horse, so economics dictate that plenty of people still use horses.)
Knowledge (Engineering) and various iterations of Craft would be the relevant skills that relate to technology.

Well my background so far....
Jeremiah W. "Winterbloom" Roberts
The heir to the Roberts estate, Jerry was his fathers second child but first son. After a failed marriage to an elven lady that produced a lovely girl, Lord Roberts fell for a genteel human lady. Their son, Jerry, was spoilt; being brought up in luxurious manor. From a young age he was enrolled in the best schools, from boarding school, to prep-school, to the Grammar school. He only spend summers at home, seeing his parents for a brief season, getting upto the usual foolish gapes. A product of his breeding and environment, through grit and arrogance he was soon accepted to Oxbridge/Uxbridge University This can/should be changed to suit. Enjoying his days studying and his evenings carousing with the girls from St. Helens college, the years passed in a debauched roil. A member of the gourmand club, fencers society, Golden Sun and Uxbridge Blues - the seasons passed too quickly.
After University, because that was the done thing, Jerry was to go on Safari/"The Grand Tour"*. His father, knew that it may help smooth the rough edges from his heirs' personality - or if not that it'd keep him out of his hair for a while.
Thus he travelled to the clans, to the pagan people of the old ways. His thoughts were filled of hunting and a certain amount of debauching. However he quickly learnt hubris, after seeing their ways. Taking beaters, bearers and guides with him, he joined the clan of the Bloodhawks. Quickly the Lordlings arrogant attitude scared his guides and connections to civilisation. Jerry tried to ignore this and continue with his hunting (both game and girls?)- however he was soon isolated. Lonely nights in the huts forced his first evenings of self-contemplation since his youth. This was a shocking self-revelation, he saw a spoilt and arrogant young man who over-indulged simply because he could and to make up for the emptiness of his existence. The next morning he started to learn the ways of the natives.
However, his initial attitude had earned the enmity of the neighbouring clan. This was only enhanced by the gradual acceptance of Jerry into the clan. They plotted to send him home to his people, upon one walkabout to the ancient stones they kidnapped him and paid a ferryman to take him to the mainland. Thus he still has enemies of this tribe. As well as friends from his adopted clan (of which he still wears a totem)
Unfortunately, for all parties, they were not a good judge of character. As the Ferryman hired to take Jerry back knew of a workhouse that was always in need of more bodies. The grimy conditions and hard work created a dour situation, lifespans reduced. Though people were free to come and go the dire poverty and isolation of the factory ensured their continued compliance. Despite railing against the work, he found it would be tough to leave. It took him a month to work out the best way to do it, once he'd done that he fell in love with a young woman, Hope. Lank dun-coloured hair was transformed to a radiant auburn in his eyes. The frailness of body, a delicate fragility. However this put paid to his immediate plans, for he couldn't get her out as well.
Took six months to find a way, however her health deteriorated....but he eventaully got her out..
And this formed into his resolve to create an industrial town like Port Sunshine I'll find a link to this, but an industrial town owner by 1 manufacturer who took care of his workers needs..
Born and raised believing that some people have more 'pluck, courage and vim' than others led to an arrogant attitude. However as he has learnt humility he hasn't been entirely dissuaded of this notion, instead he realises that those in a position of power have a responsibility to the common man.
Still need to refine it, add prose & a description and a load of other stuff.

I like it! Sending you a PM.
Edit: Also, here is the link you were looking for.

That's the one I was thinking of, I read about it in a fun book of interesting places to visit in the UK (like pencil museums, Sherlock Homes Museums, a service station). The books entitled "B*******s to Alton Towers" (NSFW & quite expensive at $10+)

I meant to add a disclosure: This is not meant to be an entirely open-ended campaign. I expect it to run from 4th level to somewhere around 10-12. In PbP terms, that is a long time; but if you are thinking in terms of character builds, don't plan on getting much beyond that.

Sylvia Pari |

CH: I'm interested in this trait for my alchemist.
Will you allow it?
Will it apply to thrown splash weapons like bombs?
BOOOOMMMBBBSSSS!

Alastríona Eichmann |

I think I'll stick to posting with the character alias to avoid confusion ;)

Guessing this got missed in the last batch of posts so gentle nudge =)
