There is a pretty good way to be broke as Allustan's apprentice. If you look at my conversation with PaleDim about it on the first page of this thread, I laid it out. I'm on my phone right now or I'd link it.

I found it. If I am chosen for the campaign, I would either want Zomeraand to start as Allustan's apprentice, or else auditioning/interviewing for the position. I will be happy to work with whichever angle makes the most sense in the context of the story as you see it.

Background and personality done. All that is left to do is equipment.

Just a reminder, feel free to come play with us in the discussion thread if you want!

Background:

Bergrom Originally came to Diamond lake back when times were kinder, having spent a good 80 years adventuring Bergom eventually settled in Diamond lake, taking on a job as town guard Bergrom never strove for promotion and was happy enough.
Unfortunately things began to change when that snake Lanod Neff came to power, corruption and bribery ran rampant and false charges ran rampant, real crimes going unpunished. its was not long till those with a good moral sense started being kicked out of the guard or outright arrested and sent to the mines to "shape" up, Bergrom was one of the first to be arrested, being a prideful fellow he couldn't stand the injustice's going on in the once quite town and got into a heated argument with his "Superior" Cubbin, unfortunately this led to him eventually loosing his patients and temper and punching him in the face, not that the slimy rat didn't deserve it.
Cubbin having all the "evidence" he could possibly want had Bergom in chains the next day and sent to the mines to teach him humility,
Since then Bergrom has been in and out of the mines for years for any little reason Cubbin can think of and unfortunately for Bergrom it has not gotten any easier, with grey hairs starting to show in his hair and beard its apparent to all he is not as young as he once was.
Bergrom has been much dismayed at seeing so many innocent end in mines for any transgressions the so called guards can come up with.
Bergrom hopes for a chance to change the town for the better and looks for any chance possible.

Description:
Bergrom Middle aged dwarf of 168 years nearing old age.
He is 4'3 with a a long beard reaching the middle of his chest, with dark brown hair with flecks of grey starting to show Bergrom is well muscled and is quite imposing for his height.

Personality:

Bergrom is passionate fellow who is easily agitated due to his overblown sense of pride.
Even tho he is prideful he does not see himself as superior to people unless they are the scum of the earth like Cubbin and Lanod Neff and is quite fond of people usually.
He might come of as harsh at times but in truth he is just being overprotective most the time for those around him, he is sadden at the state of Diamond Lake and wants to help its people as much as possible.
He despise's Goblins and Orcs but he won't let his hatred for them blind him and will treat them fairly unless given reason not to.

Btw would it be ok to assume most people around town know me?
Ether through reputation as a "trouble maker" or just from meeting frequent enough?

@GM do you have a list of potential characters? I am uncertain of going with Kineticist and wanted to cross others of list...I just want to make a character that I want to play til 21...thank you.

I'm on my phone, but I linked my spreadsheet with all the characters on it a few times. It's still missing the most recent 2, but I'll update it tonight.

My apologies. I just went through and noticed that you had already done such.

I am thinking of changing Bedlam to Alchemist. I really enjoy the versatility of the class. I have yet to actually attempt the Kineticist and not certain. Any preference or thoughts? I am not familiar with the AP just trying to see which appeals to me more for the long haul...lol.

An alchemist would be very rewarding to play in this story. I think it's a good switch. The kineticist is kind of in awkward territory where it's not sure what role it is trying to fill. Alchemist falls comfortably into utility/skill monkey.

Dot.

You seem like the sort of person who can actually run a PbP well, which isn't everyone.

Also the setting looks interesting, and that song was wicked. Which is a word I very rarely use for anything.

Do you often use theme music? I think it's always amazing in a PbP, and recommend you do often.

There's a friend of mine whose personality I am inspired to try to put into a character. I've only ever really used myself for that, so I'm not sure how well I'll do, but we're reasonably similar people, and the character can be a bit different from either of us in some ways.

Thank GM.
I do appreciate your response. I shall research Alchemist for Bedlam.
Do you want more of a backstory tie-in to Diamond Lake?

Gaurwaith wrote:

This is something I only started doing in the past couple years but it's been pretty useful for setting the tone. I did it in our prelim RP in the discussion thread as well.

In a PbP setting it's something that I intend to do if only because I should have plenty of time to find the right kind of content, and I find that setting the proper tone really helps me get into character with my writing.

The longer you've been in Diamond Lake, the better for the start of the story, but it honestly doesn't matter in the long run, so I'm not worried about it at all.

Keep in mind that we'll have to connect the characters together somehow because the cairn you're exploring at the start is far from common knowledge and you wouldn't want the trio of fancy adventurers from Greyhawk to catch wind and steal your opportunity.

Ok. Working on the changes. I will enter discussion chat to allow for that soon...

Sounds good. I won't be able to post in that thread until much later today myself.

I made his arcanist casting style more the reason that Allustan took him in as an apprentice. However, I've kept the planetouched trait as another optional hook for later. It's just not as immediately prominent as I originally thought.

Alchemist fills correct for Bedlam. Thank you.
May he craft some alchemical items prior to starting?
Still deciding on Feat. Toughness still in the running...lol.

You'd have to craft things after the start of the game. I don't really want to triple anyone's starting wealth by allowing crafting with starting gold.

Glad to see you're still around. I wasn't sure. :P

That trait is a lot more useful than it seems, but not for awhile.

Fair enough. Just need a feat, campaign trait and to spend 32gp...

Question regarding feat taxes. How are you planning on handling "feat tax" feats granted as class features? I can see a couple of options from "there is no change" to "get a free feat from a list of feats" to "get a feat you are eligible for".

Let's start with the conservative option, so no free feats. But I'll think about it and maybe change my mind after work.

Sounds good. I was mostly curious, so take your time

I believe that he is ready...

Heh, it was probably a bit ambitious to try to start this practice RP in a room with 100 NPCs.

Luckily, that will be a rare circumstance in the course of the game.

I didn't have enough time tonight to post as thoroughly as I wanted. Tomorrow, something else interesting should happen if I get to it. :D

I updated the the list with the update and new submissions.

Yeah that's totally fine! And beginners are definitely welcome. If you have any other questions, definitely don't hesitate to ask!

Cheers, will jump in the discussion then :D

Btw forgot I had a skill and language left over, just gonna chuck it in Knowledge dungeons and gnomish.

Also to explain most his equipment I was thinking he gained most of it during his time as a town guard, later on the things like masks and so on he bought once he became a frequent visitor to the mines.

Could you recommend a city or urban themed deity? Something similar to Adabar in flavor perhaps? I'm mostly looking for the fluff; domains and favored weapons are mostly irrelevant.

Nickadeamous wrote:

There isn't really an Abadar substitute in Greyhawk. Urbanus is a lesser deity of cities. Daern(Daern's Instant Fortress) is the hero-deity of castles and keeps. Both are fairly obscure. None of the major deities have any kind of focus on cities, though most have strong followings in urban areas.

I'm on my phone or I'd link them. Should be able to Google them though.

GM Lazyclownfish wrote:
You could use this list as a reference, though it's for 3.5 so the domains might need some conversion.

This was posted earlier for deities.

Crunch at work is over for now so should be able to finish my warpriest in next few days.

I guess Zilchus is an option. I don't know the Oeridian pantheon all that well, but it should technically still be observed in the area I think.

Edit: I looked and there is indeed a Temple to Zilchus in Greyhawk City. So that's probably your best bet.

Would you be ok with my Psychodermatist starting with a trophy implement? As per how it's written they normally start with standard occultist implements but I'd like to replace one of those with a trophy, if allowed.

I'd be looking at something like a goblin's eye (coming from a goblin with class levels as to meet the CR 1 requirement). My character wouldn't have killed it herself though, instead her horse trampled it on the way to Diamond Lake. A horse that now carries Balabar Smenk's corpulent body (or one of his men) around as it had to be sold to make ends meet.

I'd rather do any harvesting during the game. Goblins aren't crazy(or afraid of horses) in Greyhawk anyway. One with class levels would've just gotten his 9 friends to help murder you and take your stuff (horse included).

Gotta love those crazy green buggers...lol.

I was going to start digging through submissions in detail tomorrow in preparation for choosing the party on Saturday morning. There's no rush as long as you get your submission in by Friday, but could I get anyone who is still working on their submission to chime in here? I'm looking at post history as part of my process and I can do that even if you don't have a character in yet.

Thanks!

Hey GM, I am interested in the game. In the interest of full disclosure, I am currently GMing 2 AoW games on the boards (one near the very end; the other 15th level) (I love this AP also) but I've never been a player. I can separate player from GM knowledge. However, if that disqualifies me, I understand. My concept is a half-orc archaeologist bard, who is very charming and lucky, who is not afraid to introduce you to his axe if things get violent. Let me know if I can still apply. If so, I should have the concept fleshed out by tonight.

I'm still here and writing all my background, etc. I'll say right up front, I don't have post history here. I've looked and watched a few times, but this is my first time participating in PBP.

As long as you don't ruin any of the fun surprises, I'm open to the idea.

I'd be a little nervous about a bard knowing where all the traps are, but I could maybe move stuff around. I'm sure I could figure something out.

That's totally fine. I'll probably PM a bit with people who don't have much post history as an alternate way to get a sense of them.

He doesn't have trap-finding at 1st level! :)

I'm also still here, and have been figuring out my character a bit more, but haven't been able to do much work yet. I'm prioritizing other games that I'm already in, and I had a fun opportunity for some more creative writing, so I took it.

The character I'm making is a human bloodrager.

Actually, arch bards do not get disable device as a class skill, so I may have to take additional traits as a feat. Is Maestro of the Society available as a trait, GM, tailored to Greyhawk? I could take that and Vagabond to get disable device as a class skill and put off Lingering Performance to later.

This is my preliminary character.

Posting this up to "chime in"; I have a backstory I'm trying to get completed, but it needs a round of polish after I've had a dose of caffeine ;)

(For The List, you might as well list him as Ateris. I'd apparently reserved that name as a PFS character, so I can't use it as an Alias at the moment. I'm considering editing it, or if I should have a surname here.)

I'm just chiming in to maintain my expression of interest. Work has been killing me this week, I'm still ironing out the kinks in my character

Grand Lodge

GM Lazyclownfish, I've decided to keep Queslin starting as a Slayer. He'll probably go Magus (eldritch archer) into Arcane Archer though. I still very much like that archetype, I don't want to take away from the other (very good) submission.

Also, I'd like to use some alternate racial traits, arcane focus and envoy. Both play into into Queslin's class progression and envoy also speaks to his job with the Bronzewood Lodge.

* Arcane Focus: Some elven families have such long traditions of producing wizards (and other arcane spellcasters) that they raise their children with the assumption each is destined to be a powerful magic-user, with little need for mundane concerns such as skill with weapons. Elves with this racial trait gain a +2 racial bonus on concentration checks made to cast arcane spells defensively. This racial trait replaces weapon familiarity.

* Envoy: Elves often have trouble relating to neighbors of other races, especially those with much shorter lifespans. As a result, some are trained in minor magics that are particularly useful when dealing with non-elves. Elves with this racial trait and an Intelligence score of 11 or higher gain the following spell-like abilities once per day: comprehend languages, detect magic, detect poison, and read magic. The caster level for these effects is equal to the elf's level. This racial trait replaces elven magic.

Still here and interested. I will be submitting a half-orc urban druid. Believe or not I'm having a hard time coming up with a name and looking for a decent avatar.

Hi, Im a complete noob to pathfinder in general, but would be able to pick it up quickly if you dont mind the odd mistake!. do you think this is something suitable for me? would like to try out a Human, Rogue who is neutral evil.

thanks

While, I might normally be open to teaching someone the game, I'm going to be honest with you. Without some post history to look at or some experience with pathfinder, it'll be really hard to get selected here. This game is meant to go for very long time. It can't be a passing fancy. What if PbP or pathfinder itself turns out to be uninteresting to you after trying it?

Also, you missed a very important detail in the character creation rules.

I can't really give you good advice for what to do to get into a game here. I'm fairly new myself. But I guess I can save you wasting a bunch of your time.

Now, if you're trying for another game here and need advice for how to build a character or if you have any rules questions, send me a PM. I'm very happy to help.

Grand Lodge

Ok thank you for your feedback! Yes I guess it would be a stretch to commit to someone with no previous history! sorry for missing details, there is a LOT of information so is a little overwhelming!
