Remember that whole "this doesn't work if you take them all to ground" thing? I have a suspicion we might be putting that to the test in a moment. :/
Maybe we can KO them and plant the pin in a shoe or something?

DaWay, be careful about the use of guidance, there is no subtle way to cast it. I did consider starting combat, because the thugs would have seen you casting. Not being spellcasters, it could have spooked them into attacking.
This is your warning... ;)
EDIT: This was entirely circumstantial, by the way. In other situations, it does not matter.

It is small, I think Baldur's Gate is to the West. According to the FG Wiki, Phlan has a population of 20,000 about this time and is considered a large town.

I'll be gone for Thursday and Friday for meetings, and won't be able to post anything until Sunday. Post your actions and I will resolve them Sunday morning.
Thanks! I hope that you guys are having fun so far!

What do you think of my keeping my rolls in spoilers? Would you guys rather have full transparency to see what I rolled for what? If any of you checked in the spoiler, you may have noticed that I do not label much in terms of dice rolling. It is not difficult to compare based on my narrative, because the rolls are in order, but I deliberately leave it unmarked.
I personally like it as a player, because the narrative is more important to me, but some people want that agency (especially in Adventurers League). I promise that I am not "fudging" rolls or anything, but rather place less effort on making sure that everything is track-able.
I just realized that this practice might not sit well with certain types of players.

I see, but technically, are you supposed to know how much they hit you by when you use Parry or Defensive Duelist? That gets a little more meta- I think. But I can see that making a difference... :p As you guys get more reaction-based abilities, I will try to remember to prompt you on whether or not you want to use the ability. (And advise you on whether or not it is worth it to use.)

Ok, can I bot you if need be? Usually all posting drops off around the weekend, so it might not even be necessary. You're not going to PAX East are ya? I will be sure to be watching the twitch channel! :p

I went 3-4, placing 47th out of 106 players. Which sounds mediocre, until you realize that I threw together an original deck of my own design on Friday night. That means that about 100 people brought proven, established, highly-competitive decks to this tournament, and 57 of them did worse than the first draft of my little homebrew.
Thinking of it that way makes me feel a bit better about it. ;)

I prefer draft in every CCG I've ever played. Btw, anyone play Hearthstone?

Ander Meliamne |

Draft (or Sealed, which I actually prefer over Draft) is super fun, but for me part of the appeal of the game is to be able to sculpt my own experience by deciding what I'll bring to the table. Creative self-expression through deck design matters to me as well. You don't really get that with Draft/Sealed.

Uriah Lewis |

True, and MTG has some cool ways to be unique when it comes to decks. (At least it did when I played in the early 2000's)
I'm hoping the changes to Hearthstone will make it similar...right now it feels like everyone is basically playing the same 3-4 decks.

Ander Meliamne |

Haven't played Hearthstone, but that sounds like a pretty stale metagame. The MtG format I play (Modern) currently has dozens of competitive decks, before you even count the fringe strategies, budget decks, and "brews". Even at the higher-level competitive events, it's common for a tournament's Top 8 to filled with 6-8 different decks.

Well, I did say feels like...I don't have any numbers to support my claim. Blizzard doesn't really release deck info too much. There is an expansion and entirely new system of ranked play coming in tomorrow, so I'm hoping that this will shake things up enough to allow a bunch of different deck types to flourish.

Nice. Theros was my set for MtG, but I may get back into it if they go back to Kamigawa (which it is looking like, more and more)...

![]() |

Yeah, I just don't know what spell he was casting. :p Does anyone know? EDIT: I am guessing guiding bolt? Nope, just looked it up, guiding bolt would be d6s.

![]() |

Shouldn't be, would be d8s, and should 1d8 unless you cast it at 3rd lvl. That is why I am holding up the game, because I need clarification from him.

http://5thsrd.org/spellcasting/spells/inflict_wounds/
Inflict Wounds
1st-level necromancy
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Components: V, S
Duration: Instantaneous
Make a melee spell attack against a creature you can reach. On a hit, the target takes 3d10 necrotic damage.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d10 for each slot level above 1st.

Wow, I did not see that! I guess I was assuming that it was opposite of cure wounds. However, if that is the case, he is not able to attack anyone with it, because it is range touch. And, not to be a stickler, but it is not on his prepared list. (Or did I miss a post that he said he prepared the spell?)
I thought for a second that it was supposed to be a magic missile and he accidentally put d10s instead of d4s, but then it would not need a roll.
I am so confused! >.<

If he doesn't post tomorrow morning, I will continue assuming that it is indeed guiding bolt.
