Oh good find with the Salve. Could just have it be a vial or such on Snow's collar that he puts the hair in.
Tezuzu Curseclaw
Right so your options are:
Salve of the second chance: 1600gp
Single use, Druid/Shaman Created: 2400gp
Single use, Witch created: 3250gp
Obviously I advocate for the salve it's cheapest could give you two d100 rolls if the moon is right and is well below the 2kish purchase limit the GM established. Just to write the numbers down here so the Lareg doesn't have to do math when making his decision on what options are available.
In the future the fact that the salve's cost 800gp to craft with craft wondrous item is interesting to note considering the material component for the same spell is 1000gp.

Hopefully we find a nice 'Reincarnations 'R' Us' shop here in Irrissen that sells all these things. I'm not sure Amazon delivers to White Castle.

Sadly, Reincarnations R Us went out of business years ago. Although there have been some rumors that they might return one day, re-branded of course.

While we await our turn to strike the dragon, the history of Fin, part deux...again, my apologies to those accustomed to Quasit's superior writing skills:
In a forest, not so far away, and at a time, not so long ago...
Fin, just as his father taught him long ago, brings the nocked arrow to his cheek, breathing slowly, taking his time, focusing solely on the target 200 feet away...as he lets the breath out, he calmly releases the arrow...he follows its flight as it buries itself in the bulls-eye...
The Master of Ceremonies announces, meekly for such an event, "Findurel is the Midsummer Feastday's Archery Champion." Rather than loud applause ringing out, a low murmur with polite, and light, clapping was the crowd's reaction. The now maturing Elf had once hoped for more, but was not surprised by it, as nothing much had changed; in Osirion, he was the 'Wood Elf' while here in Kyonin, he was the 'Sand Elf'. To make it even worse, he had just beaten Dayel, who was an arrogant prick, but also the prince heir. Fin accepted the trophy, an elegantly carved wooden miniature of Erastil with a bow, graciously, saying only it was an honor to have competed.
As he walked to his mother and his beloved Miriel, Dayel blocked his path followed by a couple of the prince heir's toadies. "Lucky shot, Sand Elf! If my wrist hadn't been sore, I would've beaten you easily."
Fin deadpans, "As you say, m'Lord...perhaps if you found a willing lady, your wrist would not be so..." The prince heir fumed, his face reddening and fists clenching but, among such a large crowd, just whispered fiercely to Fin, "This is not over, Sand Elf! You'll be sorry you ever came here..."
The 'Sand Elf' continued on to his mother and Miriel; the latter approached him, kissing him lightly on the cheek, asking "What did Dayel say to you, beloved?". Fin shrugged, "Just passing on his congratulations..."
Fin's Mother gave him a hug, smiling sadly as he said, "I'm proud of you...and your father would have been as well." He smiled wistfully, his eyes tearing up at the mention of his father...
===============================================================
Flash Forward I
Fin cried unabashedly as his mother was interred beneath the sapling. The ceremony had been simple and small; while a couple of her family had shown up, most had not, as they still resented her for marrying Fin's father. The healers gave a fancy name to the 'disease' they claimed took his Mother's life...but Fin knew she had died of a broken heart.
He placed a single yellow dandelion on her grave...these also grew near her desert home and had always reminded her of Fin's father. A couple of distant cousins gave their condolences to Fin and departed...Miriel came up to him, her eyes pouring tears, hugging him fiercely and saying, "Fin, I'm so sorry..."
================================================================
Flash Forward II
Fin lets out a long, deep, sigh, as he gently rolls off the Elven lady, lying beside her naked, deep in the Fierani Forest on Midsummer Night's Eve, staring contentedly at the stars shining bright above in the night sky...
The lady sighs as well. "Thank you, Fin...for leaving the ritual hunt and coming here to lie with me...it is something that I'll truly never forget..."
Fin replies with a contented grin. "No worries, dearest, I love you...and this was much better than the hunt ever was...although, as I've told you before, I would've waited until we're consorted. And I would certainly hope you would never forget our first time...but I'm sure every time with you will be just as memorable..."
Tears come to Miriel's eyes as she speaks brokenly. "No...my beloved...I fear it cannot be that way...sadly, this will be our only time. I am to be consorted to Dayel, the prince heir; his parents came to our dwelling last evening. My parents are to receive official royal titles and their lands will increase; our betrothal will be announced tomorrow afternoon, at the Midsummer's Feast. We will be married a year from tonight..."
Fin chuckles at what he takes as a jest. "You? Married to that pompous bastard Dayel? Dearest, you can be quite mischievious with your pranks, but I fail to see much humor in this one." Looking intently in her eyes, Fin comes to the conclusion that she is not joking. "You...uh...you...uh...you're...serious? You cannot love him!"
Still crying she answers. "Beloved, I do not...I love only you...but this isn't about me...I must do this for my family...my sacrifice will increase their standing and benefit my family's descendants for many generations..."
"Your sacrifice? So I'm to be the proverbial sacrificial lamb?" Fin grunts bitterly as he shakes his head in disgust. "Alas, a Sand Elf is no longer good enough for you nor your family either...I shouldn't be shocked. You should leave now...you wouldn't want to be found in the arms of another, and a Sand Elf no less, on the eve before your betrothal to royalty...and I should get back to the hunt. After tomorrow, you'll not see me again...be happy in the life you have chosen, Miriel."
Miriel cries out, "Fin, I love you! But I can't refuse..."
He shakes his head again, tears both sad and angry filling his eyes as he murmurs, "Not enough...you don't love me enough. Farewell."
Bitter and in anguish, Fin leaves the lady crying, heading deeper into the woods...
===================================================================
Flash Forward III (the very next day)
Fin stands apart from the other Elves at the Midsummer Feast...still not able to accept it, he awaits the formal announcement. It comes all too soon...
With Dayel and Miriel in the forefront, with pomp and circumstance, the royal family announces the betrothal...followed by hearty cheers and applause from the gathered crowd. Fin notices a huge smirk aimed in his direction from the prince heir...along with a sad, but brief smile, from Miriel. A sense of finality hits him like a hammer...he stares blankly for a moment...and then turns and walks away to gather his gear...
At his mother's old dwelling, Fin gathers his essentials, and heads out the door, determined to never come back. As soon as he steps out, he's confronted by Dayel, along with his always present entourage of toadies.
Dayel blusters. "Well, well, well...running away from your betters, Sand Elf? What do you think of my betrothed, eh? As she's with me now, it will be you that has the wrist issues, eh?"
Fin tries to stay calm, biting back a retort that would've sullied Miriel's honor. He fumes instead, turning beet red. "She's better than you deserve, m'Lord...but at least I won't be around to see it...and maybe you can win an archery competition now..."
Dayel laughs. "Better than I deserve? I am a Prince...you're just some sand whore's progeny!"
The prime heir surprisingly found himself lying flat on his back, bleeding profusely from his nose, Fin's fist having struck suddenly and unexpectedly. Gathering himself, Dayel yells to his toadies, "Seize him! Hold him still." Fin is grabbed and held as the prince rises slowly. "You'll pay for that, Sand Elf!" Dayel pummels and kicks the defenseless Fin for a couple of minutes before relenting.
Fin, doubled over on his knees, spits blood out of his mouth. "Bastard prince...you're very brave when your lackeys are around...and if you ever speak of my Mother that way again, I'll put an arrow through your eye...and you'll never see it coming!"
The prince looks a bit disconcerted after Fin's retort and decides he's had enough. "The sand whelp has been taught a lesson...let's get back to the feast...and my betrothed."
Fin watches them leave, breathing heavily, unable to stand at the moment. After a while, he rises, gathers his gear, and limps deeper into the forest, heading north, towards the River Kingdoms. As he left, he had to admit Dayel had been right about one thing...Fin was sorry he ever came here...

B@+%* move Miriel, not mentioning the betrothal until after the sex. Fin is better off without her.
Do dandelions grow in the desert? :)
Also, I have to say, I never imagined elves would masturbate. But then, I don't suppose that sort of thing comes up in conversation much.

Level 6 is a big level for me. Kinetic blast goes up to 3d6, I get the Kinetic Fist infusion for full fire monk effect. Infusion Specialization lowers the burn of my infusions by 1(so I can use kinetic fist or extend range without burn). And last but certainly not least, Metakinesis lets me apply empower spell on my blasts for 1 burn.
Findurêl

Sounds awesome Maka. 6th will be pretty cool for me as well...I get Improved Precise Shot without needing the pre-reqs and I get my iterative attack so my full round attacks will go up to three...
Was wondering about my animal companion bonus...as a group, would you rather I grant half my favored enemy bonus for a round as a move action (good against undead and fey currently) or take Izzy as an animal companion (if the GM will allow what Maka mentioned earlier: using the capybara stats for animal companion but being the same Izzy, aka a crocodile, for looks)? I was leaning towards the latter, GM willing...
GM Lareg
2 people marked this as a favorite.
I'm open to the companion. Not all the encounters end up as close quarters as the clock tower so the plethora of characters and companions / familiars should be a bit more manageable.
Maka Na'Shota

My vote is definitely for Izzy. Except for single powerful targets, it will almost always be better for you to make a full attack rather than spend the move action to grant the bonus. The animal companion gives you a significant action economy boost. Plus crocodile in a sweater.

Just from pure mechanics standpoint, the animal seems like better bang for the buck. More fun for RP too.
Bulvi
The sharing the bonus thing seems great on paper but I've never seen it get much use.
HP: 6+2+1+1
+1 BAB
+1 Fort, +1 Ref, +1 Will
Bravery Increased to +2
Feat: Advanced Weapon Training (Armed Bravery)
The fighter applies his bonus from bravery to Will saving throws. In addition, the DC of Intimidate checks to demoralize him increases by an amount equal to twice his bonus from bravery. The fighter must have the bravery class feature in order to select this option.
Skill Points:
Perception +1, Spellcraft +1, Survival +1, Sense Motive +1
After much effort Bulvi now has one of the best Will Saves in the party I believe! ...as long as he has one of his comfort swords out, they are very soothing.
GM Lareg
Comfort swords... Next there will be dwarfs with emotional support maces.
Tezuzu Curseclaw
Huzzah! Third level spells.
I agree with going Izzy even if it makes smaller areas more crowded.
Also don't forget about your spells Fin. If you aren't interested in them there are a few arch-types that get rid of them you might like if the GM is fine with you changing it. Divine Marksman is fun for getting half your favored enemy bonus on everything at the cost of spells and thus not being able to activate our CLW wands.
@Lareg, Are we rolling HP or taking half? Getting the night to rest is great and I'm going to ask IC, but I probably need to cast gentle repose at the very least on the kid's body and have a few divination spells I may want to try out. It's nbd if not, but I would appreciate having a 48hr window to get to the hut if that's in the cards of course.

I’ll mention again since it may have been overlooked, Fin’d like the serpentine owl, if no one has a better use for it...think it would be very useful for a scout...
Sounds good to me. It is worth quite a lot of money. If we don't use it by the time we get to the next point we can sell gear we can revisit if we want to get rid of it or not.
I'm likely to hold him back in most encounters as Ranger animal companions are weaker than other classes' counterparts and we want to keep him alive...
I know that struggle getting mage armor on Izzy would probably be a good idea. I've been using the Shield Companion spell to keep Yang relatively safe. There are two versions of it Rangers get imho the better version of Shied Companion. It lasts for a long duration which is nice.
I shall get wondering hex at 7th level and will pick up Life Link I'll have 6 links to choose from I'll include Izzy on that list. At the same level I should be able to craft some items. One that I am going to make for Tez and Yang is Shawl of Lifekeeping I could potentially make one for Izzy as well.

Will have my character update this evening. Here is my roll for HP, 1d8 ⇒ 5
Findurêl

I’m not going to place Izzy in too much danger, but think he’ll be good for RP, especially when we have some downtime. Will keep him close by, maybe to defend while I’m firing or defend one of y’all if you’re hurting. If we face some heavies, I’ll probably give him the Flee command. He could also be good while I’m scouting as we both get alertness when we’re adjacent...
If the serpentine owl is worth that much, we can sell it...I wouldn’t want to deny the group a chance for more equipment upgrades. It just sounded excellent for scouting...and as an emergency lift a time or two if needed...
Maka Na'Shota
@Selena You seem to be wanting to go a melee weapon route. Have you taken a look at the Hexcrafter Magus or Phantom Blade Spiritualist? They have some witchy flavor with a lot more support for melee.
@Fin Since you'll often be in the back, keeping Izzy with you has the benefit of keeping him somewhat out of the danger and able to back you up if anything closes in. I doubt we are in a good position to do much buying or selling, unless their are just some hardcore shop keepers in Whitethrone. Keep the owl for if we need it, we can always pawn it off later.
Tezuzu Curseclaw
Oh yeah I’m not really saying you should keep him front line or anything. Just pointing out the couple of ways to keep him out of trouble. Shield companion is great and will provide a good safety net for him should you choose to prepare it; that and will only get safer once I get life-link.
It would be devastating RP wise should Izzy get killed.
Findurêl
|
Good ideas...I'll hold on to the serpentine owl and use it for scouting. As Maka said, we can always pawn it later; especially if we run into another bad stretch where one of us dies. Saving and selling high priced items might allow us to raise dead/reincarnate for such contingencies; we've got such a great RP group here, to include the GM, that I'd hate to lose any of us...
Agreed Tez, the two feats I went with for Izzy are Toughness and Hard to Kill as I though they'd be best for keeping him alive...I'll keep him more in the back with me but, even so, I won't hesitate to use the Flee command if we get in a tussle that's over his head...
GM Lareg
I'll work on getting the map set for the next part. Should be able to post it tomorrow. Looks like most folks are all leveled up. Rolls for identifies are welcome in game whenever. In terms of timing assuming here the party is at the least taking the evening. Any other specifics should be tossed up in the gameplay thread.
Tezuzu Curseclaw
I updated my character. Sadly none of the scrolls, wands, or weapons are of any use to Tezuzu. I think I'm still above most of the rest of the party's wealth so the only thing I might be interested in is the ring of protection I gave Q, but I'd gladly let her have it if Saki is going to make it a habit of giving out to mage armor to Tez.
@Lareg: If I am not mistaken these are the items that still need to be identified. Correct?
-Battle Axe
-Cauldron
-Serpentine owl figurine
-Scroll of Blink
-Scroll of Scorching Ray
-Scroll of See Invisibilty
-Wand of Silent Image
-Wand of Truestrike
I gathered that we would have the rest of the night to rest. I asked Solveig in IC how long the uprising would buy us to get to the hut. If we can afford to spend 1 day that would give me time to prepare a lot of downtime spells Read Magic for the scrolls. Tears to wine to boost my spellcraft to an 18 with taking a 10 to identify all the wands. I could also pick the Lore Spirit to get Identify 3 times as bonus spells for the Axe, Cauldron, and Figurine.
Outside of that we might need to preserve the body of the kid so it doesn't start rotting and I would like to do the same for Granny Nanns head so i might ask it questions later. So 2 castings of the 2nd level spell Gentle Repose. I would also be interested to try my hand at casting Harrowing and Akashic Communion the latter granting 2 questions would go towards trying to learn exactly what magic has overtaken the market and how the Dancing hut functions. More Goodberries would be nice as well.
That's all predicated on if Solveig thinks the uprising will buy us longer than a single day and if the party is willing to take a day to rest. Not a big deal if we don't, but if it's in the cards I would like to know. We don't necessarily need to role-play extra if we get a full day just to speed things along if we don't want to wait around much. There's just a sizable list of downtime things I could do and I would like to be as helpful as I can be if it's feasible.
Plus it might be nice to have a little extra time for role-play before jumping into the next series of combats. I don't think we've resolved what's going on with Selena and her reincarnate yet either.
Edit: Hey it looks like we did get an emotional support mace. Neat.

If you give a girl a ring, you can't expect her to give it back. :)
Quasit would want to go find the hut tomorrow, but would be willing to delay a few hours to make arrangement for raising Selena from death. Waiting longer than a day seems risky though -- the uprising is a finite and unpredictable thing and every hour of delay might be the hour it all comes to an end. The Iron Guard is not going to win -- they are sacrificing themselves to give us this one chance.
Tezuzu Curseclaw
Makes sense about the need for haste.
I only mentioned the ring as I was looking over the loot and it's the only thing I could even have a passing interest in as is everything else other than the gold is completely useless in my hands. Tezuzu isn't an Indian giver and he knows enough to come between a monkey and their shiny jewelry. Of course.
I wonder when we're going to meet New Selena+ 3.0? If she's going the salve of second chances route than her fox could just stuff some hair in the vial and then wait. I sense an amusing RP coming soon.

Some further clarification. Selena has been in contact concerning character specifics, but timing is unclear in terms of when character will be ready. Map is nearly ready.
Any questions before we pick up with the next bit?

Can't think of any scenario wise...but I do have one. Just curious, it kinda feels like we're getting pretty close to the end of book 2; are we?
GM Lareg
I think so. My pdf reader keeps taking one for the team. Luckily it stays going just long enough for me to get what I need.
Maka Na'Shota
Did we have any idea what would happen once we get to the hut or is it more of a use the keys and see what happens?
Findurêl

If I recall correctly, the Black Rider said the hut could take us to Baba Yaga...so I assume we have to use the keys and see what happens...it might fly somewhere or take us to another plane or something like that...or perhaps provide some clue where Baba Yaga is located...just a guess though...
Maka Na'Shota
Cool beans, if we have any a guess of that we should bring some extra supplies along. At least a week of rations for each of us, if not more.
Findurêl

That's a good idea...if we are towards the end of this book, that hut might take us somewhere far away...we better have all our gear as well as the extra rations. But if Tez wants to leave the witch's head behind, I won't mind... ;)

Tezuzu Curseclaw
I’ll update my prepared spells later tonight. Does anyone have any pressing requests?
@Lareg I’ll make my rolls to identify the rest magic gear we got later this evening if that’s kosher. Are you a stickler for 24hrs between attempts? If so I won’t get another shot at the cauldron or axe till later tonight. We still never figured out what was up with that ring of Bulvi’s did we?
@Findurel Maybe Lareg was just going to give us some gear identified, but afaik we might not actually have any idea what that figurine does till some casters try and identify it.
GM Lareg
Are their initial rolls for identifying items from the dragon horde? I must have missed them.
I know there are some items that identifies were attempted on when you all initially found them in the tower. I'm fine with rolls on those last night or before leaving for the merchant's quarter. Whenever rolls for the horde were / are made.
Was just going to count the scrolls as identified.
Bulvi's ring is still on the deck. Don't want to spoil it so that's all for now on that.
