Abandoned Arts Presents: The Jade Regent
NOTE: This is a closed campaign for a few personal friends and family members (although spectators are more than welcome to hang out with us in the Discussion Thread). We'll be running The Jade Regent adventure path pretty well by-the-book. All PCs were built using a 20 point-buy and maximum starting gold. Each PC uses one campaign trait and one trait of any other type. There are no real house rules in play, and we will not be implementing any Pathfinder Unchained rules or options.

The PCs
Ansirus Maseo, NG male ifrit sorcerer (wishcrafter) 1
Ansirus' best friend is famous in Sandpoint - the childhood friend of Ameiko Kaijitsu, a member of one of Sandpoint's founding families. Like Ameiko, Ansirus has lived in Sandpoint a very long time. The horned ifriti sorcerer is an infectiously charismatic regular at Ameiko's tavern, the Rusty Dragon, and has agreed to help with Sheriff Belor Hemlock's efforts to address the threat posed by the Licktoad goblin tribe (more as a friend and resident of Sandpoint than for the bounty Hemlock is offering on goblin ears).
Brigitte Silverbraid, N female dwarf inquisitor of Gorum (sanctified slayer) 1
Brigitte has sworn a life-debt to Koya Mvashti, a Varisian fortune-teller, priestess of Desna, and the oldest living person in Sandpoint. Koya's healing magic saved the visiting dwarf's life once, bringing Brigitte back from the brink of death. As both a dwarf and an inquisitor of the battle-god Gorum, Brigitte takes this debt seriously - and cunning Koya has put Brigitte's crude honor to use for Sandpoint, bidding the inquisitor to join the effort to make Sandpoint safe from the Licktoad tribe's recent attacks. Brigitte loves battle, and finds those that use spells to win their fights to be cowards - she specializes in matching magic with steel. Brigitte lives for glorious battle more than anything else in the world, and is more or less happy to lend her strength to Sandpoint.
Mirasha, CN middle-aged female aasimar hunter 1
Mirasha is apprentice (and adopted sibling) to one of Sandpoint's best allies and most savvy defenders: the elven scout and survivalist Shalelu Andosana. Though older than the elf, the magic inherent to Mirasha's celestial heritage keeps her looking youthful. Mirasha spends as much time in the surrounding wilderness as she does in the town proper, and - very much unlike her "sister" - is motivated more self-interest as by the common good or a love of Sandpoint. Traveling with her is a living token of her travels and adventures to the north, a young mastodon, about the size of a black bear. Mirasha knows Ansirus and Brigitte by association with Shalelu, and has cast her lot in with the party's efforts toward collecting Sheriff Hemlock's goblin-ear bounties.
Sarn, N old male human investigator (empiricist) 1
Sarn is a man of academia, alchemy, and logic. A lifelong ally of Koya's, and also her theological foil, Sarn owes his citizenship to the old fortune teller. Koya adopted the teenaged Sarn in order to help him gain citizenship in Varisia. His reasons for leaving Cheliax are his alone to know. Sarn is quite literally a genius, and something of an academic elitist as well, constantly observing and drawing conclusions from the persons and events around him (and marveling at the inability of others to draw the same savvy conclusions). Though not academically interested in the common good, Sarn is all the same usually willing to help right wrongs and solve problems, provided those problems are interesting or challenging enough to contest his intellect.
Thurgood (first name unknown), NE male human fighter (unbreakable) 1
Pit fighter, recovering alcoholic, and petty thief from the slums of Magnamar, Thurgood signed on to Sandru Vishki's caravan as a guard. Woefully, Sandru's caravan pay was underwhelming and Thurgood's chances to wet his blade with blood were even more so. Recently, Thurgood has parted ways with Sandru and set his mind to collecting Belor Hemlock's goblin-ear bounties; though he's sworn off the drink, Thurgood's real vice has ever been his bloodlust. Thurgood's only possessions in the world are his katana and his shoddy banded mail - both stolen from a rival pit fighter.
Major NPCs
Amieko Kaijitsu, female human adventurer (retired), bard, and tavern proprietor
Descended from one of Sandpoint's founding families, Amieko is the last living Kaijitsu in Sandpoint - maybe in all of Varisia. Her short adventuring career earned her enough money to buy the Rusty Dragon outright, and she now serves as its sole proprietor in her “retirement.” One gets the feeling, though, that abandoning the adventuring life wasn’t entirely her choice — certainly she doesn’t talk much about what happened on her last adventure, or what happened to the others in her group (though she was known to travel with Sandru and Shalelu.
Belor Hemlock, male human fighter and sheriff of Sandpoint
Sheriff Hemlock replaced the town's former sheriff, Casp Avertin, after the lawman was murdered by a serial killer in 4702 AR. Born a member of the Shriikirri-Quah Shoanti, Belor changed his name and all but abandoned his heritage when he took on the role of sheriff, changing his name from the Shoanti "Viskalai" to its Chelish translation of "Hemlock," much to the dismay of his surviving family. Though relatively young, Belor has the demeanor of a much older man. Despite his world-weary caution, Sheriff Hemlock knows that Sandpoint has time and time again owed its security to the deeds of adventurers and foreigners, and extends courtesy and cautious trust toward adventuring types that most small-town sheriffs would not.
Kendra Deverin, female human aristocrat and mayor of the town of Sandpoint
Kendra Deverin has served as Sandpoint's mayor since 4702 AR. Lawmaker, judge, and general peacemaker, she has proven to be both an adept diplomat and stern hand when need be, both skills honed during her youth in Magnimar. With a personal — some say sisterly — style of governing, most of Sandpoint's citizens hold deep respect for their mayor.
Koya Mvashti, old female human cleric of Desna
The oldest living person in Sandpoint, Koya has spent a fair amount of her life traveling Varisia with a number of caravans, serving as a healer when she was younger and more recently as a fortune-teller. For the past several years, she’s been traveling with her adopted son Sandru Vhiski on a regular caravan route that travels between Riddleport, Magnimar, and Korvosa two or three times a year. The caravan spends most of its time relatively close to Sandpoint, though she’s been pressuring Sandru to take a long journey soon: “The sooner the better, ’cause I won’t be around for long!”
Sandru Vhiski, male human caravaner and swashbuckler
Charming, handsome and irreverent in precisely the ways that could have made him a highly successful Sczarni con artist, Sandru fell into Koya's care following the deaths of his parents. Under her guidance and support, Sandru managed to avoid falling in with the Sczarni, and when he grew of age, he instead sought employment as a caravan guard. After he lost his job in the caravan business, Sandru joined up with a group of adventurers eager to explore the Mushfens, Churlwood, and the Fogscar Mountains. As fate would have it, another former resident of Sandpoint, Ameiko Kaijitsu, was also a member of the group. Sandru and Ameiko remain close friends — though nothing more than that — and, like Ameiko, Sandru earned a fair amount of money during his short-lived adventuring days. Also like Ameiko, he doesn’t talk about the reasons why he abandoned that exciting life. Sandru has since bought his own caravan, returning to the business with the money he earned from adventuring.
Shalelu Andosana, female elven ranger
Though she is not a resident of Sandpoint, Shalelu is one of its oldest and most ardent defenders. Another former adventuring partner of Ameiko's, Shalelu often stays at the Rusty Dragon (free of charge, of course), though she prefers to spend her time exploring and surveying the wilderness around Sandpoint. She periodically vanishes from the region for weeks or even months at a time to visit friends elsewhere in Varisia (particularly, it’s said, near Hook Mountain or up north near the elven village of Crying Leaf), but she never fails to return to Sandpoint. Though distant, and possessed of somewhat mysterious motives, Shalelu is approachable and friendly enough, as elves go.
Walthus Proudstump, male halfling ranger and swamp warden
Walthus Proudstump has lived in the Sandpoint hinterlands for nearly five years, but none in Sandpoint can rightfully claim to know the near-hermit. Walthus likes to think of himself as retired after a short but excessively dangerous adventuring career in which he and several other half ling slaves abandoned a sinking Chelish merchant ship bound for Nisroch. By the time he reached Sandpoint, he'd had quite enough of adventure, and of city life. He spent nearly all of the money he’d made on his adventurous trek north to purchase an old building, sight unseen, in Brinestump Marsh. The scam artist who sold Walthus the old building walked away from the deal thinking he’d gotten the better of the halfling, but in fact, Walthus knew exactly what he was paying for: isolation and a place to hide from any Chelaxians who come north looking for escaped slaves.
