There's just something about aasimars, isn't there? lol

Couple of quick questions:-

1. Would you allow any of the Tian Xia / Dragon Empires gods, or other deities like the Empyreal Lords and so forth?

2. Gunslingers are out, but what about guns generally, like say could I pick the Amateur Gunslinger rogue talent?

Answers:
1) Tian Xia / Dragon Empires and Empyreal Lords are Allowed
2) Guns are out.

So I've written up a simple background for Toryn, but I think it needs a lot of work before it's really in a status to present.

Is there anything in particular you want us to do with the backgrounds? Without knowing which module we're going to run makes it a little hard to have good plot points/areas of interest to work with.

I'm finding it really hard to identify with the character, and I can't imagine I'd be able to put forth my best effort if I were chosen for the game. Rather than cheapen things for everyone else, I'm gonna go ahead and bow out at this time. Thanks for the chance, AZ.

Sorriel's Backstory:
Sorriel was found abandoned in the woods in the holdings of the noble Marn family, by twelve year old Manius Marn, she was a beautiful baby, but possessed vivid green hair. The Marn's took her in, named her for her tragic start, and found themselves utterly taken with the child, to the point where they adopted her officially into the family. As she slowly reached maturity it became more and more obvious that Manius was madly in love her and he refused all other women waiting faithfully for her to come of age.

Sorriel was always a people pleaser, she could not stand to see people sad or lonely, and though she loved Manius more as a brother than as a man she agreed to marry him. He took an important government post and began to spend more and more time away from the country estates, but for the most part they were happy, having three daughters and two sons, none of whom seemed to share whatever alien blood Sorriel possessed. Sorriel raised them leaving their tuition to wiser heads, but smothering them with affection. She rarely attended court events in the capital finding all the attention she received off putting and unnerving.

Then aged sixty Manius became unwell, and left his position to return and run the family estates. Sorriel cared for him as he deteriorated, and mourned when he passed away, he had been a warm and caring man who she had come to truly love. Widowed and with five grown children Sorriel still looked to be in her twenties and soon had scores of suitors, many more than her beautiful, but normal daughters much to all of their embarrassment. So she began to take trips away from the estates frequently, finding herself fascinated with the Opera.

The final straw came when one of her granddaughter Marieen's suitors made a pass at her and she knew that she was hurting her loved ones, seeing her oldest daughter Tessa already looked more like her mother than her daughter. She selected a few treasured possessions and fled leaving a note asking that her family always remember that she loved them and be happy.

She went and secured herself a position to train with the Opera, and her lovely voice, and natural gifts for oratory and dance, coupled with her unique appearance quickly elevated her to stardom. She spent five years as a celebrated Chelish Diva, playing the great roles and famously rejecting thousands of suitors. She kept Sorriel, but dropped the Marn, and instead came to be called Larkstongue, after an early review by one particularly enthusiastic critic.

Then Garrant Thrune began making a play for the starlet, a Prince and Master of Coin for his Aunt Abrigail II Magistrix of all Cheliax. At first he found Sorriel's refusals charming, but his ardor turned into anger after months of refusals and he had her forcibly taken to his mansion by his fiendish servants after a particularly memorable performance when she refused him yet again.

But Sorriel had been playing a warrior Queen, a role which she excelled at and had practiced long and hard for. And the Chelish armor had little use for cheap props, she wore true mithril fullplate polished to a perfect sheen, and carried an ancient ostentatious sword that had been presented to Queen Abrigail the 1st long ago by an infernal Duke. And Iomedae took this her moment of peril to offer her the power of a paladin. For House Marn had long ago switched their allegiance from Arodan to his favored servant Iomedae, keeping their pure faith a secret from diabolistic Chelish society.

The two Bearded Devils took her by surprise at the Opera house dumping her into a bag of holding and teleporting off to Garrant Thrune's distant Mansion. But it was they who were surprised when they opened the bag. For out came not the meek little starlet they had been inspecting, but a furious green haired angel wielding a vicious hell forged sword and the power of Iomedae! She beheaded one of her foes with a single devastating swing even as she began to recite Queen Teshla's dirge from The Servants of Arodan. The second monster made to maul her, but found its claws no match for her mithril plate and fell before her righteous ire moments later.

Knowing that she must flee Sorriel took the finest horse from Garrant's stables, as compensation for the injury he had done her - naming the magnificent beast Sunset - and fled. She fought of dozens more of Garrant's followers and used her wiles and magics to slip past more before escaping Chelax and setting out to do Iomedae's work in the wider world.

She should be completely finished - hopefully. I did not bother calculating weights for the items on her horse since its going to be a tiny fraction of his capacity.

Silly question. I see you have HP for 1st level as 1/2+1+con...so for a barbarian it would by 6+1+con or the standard max HP for first level?

It's 1/2Die+1+Con per level including the first.

I'll be opening a temporary RP bar for those with an alias.

Another rules question, Dervish Dance lets me add my DEX to attack and damage, but I cannot have a weapon/shield in my offhand. Does that rule extend to if I want to wield 1 scimitar 2-handed?

I believe it does,
So A scimitar wielded 2-handed is a no go.

Azure I have a question for you

DM Azure:

I'm putting my finishing touches on my character and had an idea but wanted to through it out to you first.

So my Paladin/Alchemist is a tiefling which I plan to make look vile (Extra arm, bat wings, tail) but obviously as a paladin is LG. Now with master chymist you get a hulking more hideous form, but I was thinking of twisting it and making his mutagenic form be a beautiful normal human and the typical "paladin" look. What are your thoughts on that. Obviously the form can't be a different alignment if it has a different personality, but I though maybe that form worships Aroden since Iomedae takes care of them anyways. His backstory would include that all his life he had to fight people's prejudices on the way he looks so he did experiments to make himself look normal.

I'm looking at a 1 or 2 level investment in it for this scenario at least. (probably coupled with Knight of Ozem or Holy Vindicator)

David James Olsen:
I was also planning on having the mutagenic form better looking (though the personality gets worse) for the one I rolled.

But if your taking a level or two in Master Chymist the mutagenic form must have a different alignment then the original.

Master Chymist: Mutagenic Form wrote:
....The mutagenic form even has his or her own alignment (which is selected by the player, but must be different from the master chymist’s normal alignment). The change in alignment only affects the master chymist while in her mutagenic form. ....

Azure:
yeah I knew that was the way it worked, but just wanted to check on an alternate way. No biggie. I should have it done soon

David James Olsen:
Luckily the alchemist's mutagen does not have a alignment change.

Liberty's Edge

Sorry, but I'm really having trouble coming up with a character I'll be happy with. I don't want to submit something half-arsed and waste your time with it :) Hope everything goes well with the game!

I'm afraid my usual dislike of (playing) Wizards has defeated my intent to defy it and as such I'm bowing out.

Excess of Paladins and Aasimars aside The Demon Within definitely looks to be the better reviewed module, five star as opposed to three, so that will be my preemptive vote.

The board games, marbles, and kites in Sunset's saddlebags are for Sorriel to give to any children we meet in case anyone was wondering, not for some bag of rats esque shenanigans.

Dark Archive

Honestly, The Demon Within is the one that seems the easiest for me to write Toryn into, as the danger of evil beings pouring into his forest from the Worldwound is a perfect reason to get him to come out and fight them.

So that's another preemptive vote for it. :)

Working on my archer/spy.

Is there an end date, or perhaps submission number for applications DM Azure Zero?

Alice Margatroid I'm surprised you couldn't get something you were happy with with that combo, it seems brilliant. Off the top of my head being a rogue with the ability to get a animal companion is great since it ought to make flanking virtually an always on effect. And +2 dex +2 wisdom is amazing for a rogue cleric. Heck you could take the feather domain and be a large sized roc riding badass bird lady! Get yourself a rod of extend or two and use most of your spells for long duration buffs, like greater magic weapon, and magic vestment, use rogue talents to fill out your feats, etc., keep the rest of the spells for healing and undoing negative conditions out of combat.

I am too having trouble coming up with a background for my Musetouched Aasimar Savage Barbarian Starsoul Sorcerer. The crunch is done enough, its simply getting the fluff to go well wit it :)

I went the Dex route, Dervish Dance while using my spells to buff my self through the roof. The damn fluff is tripping me up.

I also wonder when the cutoff date/submissions will be?

Gilthanis, if we play The Demon Within we'll be near the world wound which is in what was once the Kellid " barbarian" nation of Sarkoris. The remnants of that nation have been fighting the demons for a century, and it's pretty likely they would have their high level casters calling in celestials on a regular basis to help them fight. Perhaps a regularly called celestial could have bred with your characters ancestor resulting in celestial blood? Said celestial could have been a planar traveler fascinated by the stars, etc.

thanks for the help...i think i can work with that :)

The cut off is Wednesday next week or 30 Submissions.

I have my crunch done just trying to come up with a backstory (and a name)

Dark Archive

I don't suppose there's a Shoanti tribe anywhere near the World Wound, huh? Or better yet, is there a good place to look for lore information like that? Would be quite helpful for figuring out more of Toryn's backstory.
