I did shift you Kia, and you're out of their aura.

Gobi moves away from the newts and heads back to help his friends.

Double move to H14, Lay on Hands for Whiteclaw

Gobi sprints across the room and reaches out to Whiteclaw, adding the power of Avandra to the healing knowledge of Ioun.

Vel - +1 to hit
Seraphiel - +1 to hit
Reason - +1 to hit; bloodied; +2 to defenses to end of next turn

Newts 1
Newts 2 - concealment
Gobi - +1 to hit

Female Human Wizard 11 / Master of Flame

Unable to use her more effective area attacks among the clustered allies, Vel aims two force bolts at the writhing maggots.

MM v M3 (1d20+8+1=18, 2d4+6=13) 18 vs ref for 13/6 damage

Vel's attack is imposing, but the maggots are too fast, writhing aside from the balls of force before lashing out at Seraphiel.
Aura effect on Seraphiel (Ref) (1d20+12=19, 1d8+5=12). 12hp damage to Seraphiel, 5 ongoing necrotic (se) I believe you may be rather bloodied. I have you on 13hp before taking the ongoing.

Rad is busy right now, so I'll post on his behalf.

Backing away from the maggots, Seraphiel tries to blast them with the purifying light of the sun. As before, they are just too quick. He does manage to quell the pain of his wounds however.

Sunstrike v M3 (Ref) (1d20+9=12, 1d8+6=13). Miss.
Save v ongoing necrotic (1d20=11). Saved v ongoing.

Reason is unable to fend off the flailing swarm, despite his honed defenses.
Aura effect v Reason (Ref) (1d20+12=21, 1d8+5=12). 12hp damage to Reason

Male Tiefling Cleric 11

Reason moves the Consecrated Ground so it is centred on the swarm then aids Seraphiel.

Healing Word to Seraphiel: Surge + 7 hp. 8 damage from CG.

Carefully shifting his consecrated ground to envelop the maggots, Reason utters a quiet prayer that restores Seraphiel considerably.

EDIT - Reason, you forgot to make a save v ongoing. Did it for you ...
Save v ongoing necrotic (1d20=18)

Move to J6. Concealment. Eldritch Blast - 13 vs Ref. Pah.

Arianwyn tries to stay useful.

The maggots are unable to withstand the holy light of Ioun and with a sizzle, the swarm collapses. The stench is appalling. M3 is dead.

You are still in combat and will remain in init order until the newts are resolved one way or another and any ongoing damage is accounted for.

Female Eladrin Warlord/10

Gagging at the smell of roast newt and also at the necrotic filth that she just cannot get rid of, Kia takes a breather.

"Right, one newt at a time I would suggest. Does anyone know how far away you have to be to stay safe from them?"

Standing and gasping and throwing to save against ongoing damage

Saving throw. (1d20=5)

But the whole ordeal is too overwhelming and she just cannot rid herself of the awful ordure.

Kia remains focused on the problem even as the maggoty wounds continue to trouble her. Can I have your hp status please Kia.

"Right, one newt at a time I would suggest. Does anyone know how far away you have to be to stay safe from them?"

"On the other side of the door?" Vel suggests. "Arianwyn has the book, I believe."

Male Tiefling Cleric 11

Ah, didn't realize I had ongoing. Currently at 5 hp.

Consecrated ground is still running. Bloodied allies should be gaining lost hp from that until the end of the encounter.

Male Eladrin Warlock (Feypact) 13 - Multiclass Bard - Hexer Paragon Path

Arianwyn shows the group the book.

"I suggest the application of incendiary devices would be most efficacious." he pants.

Female Gnoll Warden 12 (Icewrought Sentinel)

I'm not bloodied currently.

"Let's just kill them, like we did the others. I still think it would be easier to just find Kyleth's book and kill her when she comes out of it." Whiteclaw speaks as she moves to advanace on the newts.

Minor: Mountain Lion step to let me ignore difficult terrain until the end of my turn. Move to H8. Strength of Stone vs N1: 1d20+9=11. Miss. Mark N1.

Whiteclaw splashes valiantly into the pool and slices ineffectually at the newts.

The swirling finned beauties belie their appearance and attack back, baring sharp fangs, but failing to break through the gnoll's fur.
Newts 1 v Whiteclaw (Ref) on hit, target takes 3 ongoing damage. (1d20+9=10, 1d6+4=6)

Whiteclaw

Spoiler:
I realise I wasn't clear. Destroying the rune in Kyleth's book will stop her resurrecting fully empowered by her victims. If she does rise however, she won't do so from the book. Her body will appear somewhere else - and you don't know where that would be just yet.

Newts 2

Gobi makes his way to Kia to help her gather her strength.

Move to I11 around the zone, and use lay on hands for Kia

Female Human Wizard 11 / Master of Flame

"Incendiary devices? Very well."

Vel moves to get a clear line of sight on the newts attacking Whiteclaw (map 1, H2) and looses a burst of golden flames, turning the bath to steam.

Scorching burst vs N1 (1d20+8+1-2=22, 1d6+6=7)

Concern written large across his face, Gobi offers his healing services to Kia, while Vel simply sends a jet of flame into the bath. The result is an outraged hiss from the wounded newts and a strong smell of attar of roses as the essences in the water send up fresh scent. It is a welcome relief from the smell of dead maggot.

Moves to the doorway - J2 in Map1

Sun Strike vs. N1 (Ref) 1d20+8=24, Damage 1d8+6=14

Seraphiel strides to the doorway and sends a shaft of pure sunlight into the newts. The creatures let out piercing hiss as the light glows around them, making them almost too bright to look at and scything through scales.

Move to I14 on Map 2. Concelament. Minor - take Statuette out of pocket. Standard - summon Urho to I15.

"We have need of you, my friend." Arianwyn mutters, as he throws Urho's statuette to the ground.

At Arianwyn's bidding, the basalt hound shakes himself back into life and stands poised, awaiting the orders of his eladrin master.

Female Eladrin Warlord/10

Realising that she is not much use while she is still bloodied and taking ongoing damage, Kia basks in the consecrated ground and takes her second wind.

Kia now has 28HP and is not bloodied anymore

Saving throw: Splat that muck. (1d20=14)

Finally, Kia manages to clear herself of the horrible stuff and can rejoin the fight.

Kia resolutely strikes down the last maggots clinging to her and prepares to head into battle once more.

The newts flow around Whiteclaw, biting ferociously.

Aura attack on Whiteclaw - on hit target takes 3 ongoing. On odd roll, target is dazed. (1d20+9=27, 1d6+4=10). 10hp damage to Whiteclaw, 3 ongoing damage.

Did you also add in the hp from my lay on hands?

Female Gnoll Warden 12 (Icewrought Sentinel)

Whiteclaw continues to attack the newt's.

Preturn save: 15. Strength of Stone vs N1: 1d20+8=19. If I hit, 1d10+4/2=5 damage and I gain 4 temp hp. On a little side note, this is a really neat fight Rev. I'm liking it a lot :)

Spoiler:
I've liked the idea of swarms for a long time, it just seemed like a good place to use them. It's not really a melee specialists combat, but it has considerable danger value from all the ongoing damage.

Recharge Lure of the Wild (1d6=2, 1d6=3). No recharge. Pah.

The newts swim frantically, trying to avoid the crushing blow, but are unable to distract Whiteclaw from her fell purpose. Desperate though they are, they miss.

Newts 1 (ref) v Whiteclaw. On hit, 3 ongoing damage. On odd roll, target is dazed to end next turn (1d20+9=20, 1d6+4=7)

Desperate for fresh prey, the second newt swarm eases back to the edge of the smaller pool.

Gobi moves forward into the next room and throws his shield towards the group of newts in front of him.

Move to H16

Throwing Shield vs. N1 (1d20+9=10)

and Gobi sucks again.

Gobi's shield arcs around the room, missing the newts put offering a dazzling light show as the amphibious colours bounce of it.

Scorching burst vs N1 ref (1d20+8+1-2=27, 1d6+6=8) Crit damage vs N1 (12+1d6=18)

Vel's attack sends up more highly scented steam and Whiteclaw finds herself ankle deep in dead newts as the swarm disperses and dies.

Since N2 is not bloodied, gonna post out of order so that when Kia can post, Rev can resolve three actions - hers, mine, and N2 quickly.

Whiteclaw pivots towards the last group of newts, racing towards them, her bulk displacing water from the pool as she races through it, her axe slamming towards the creatures when she gets close.

Charge to L8. Melee Basic vs N2: 1d20+9=15. Probably a miss, but just in case: 1d10+6/2=5. Mark N2.

Darn, I read most carefully, and still missed that! Kia has 40HP. (and thanks)

Female Eladrin Warlord/10

Kia is going to delay until after Whiteclaw has had a chance to get there and then use commander's strike through Whiteclaw to wack them by proxy

Bouyed up by Gobi's timely healing and her own reserves, Kia bounds into the pool room, waits for Whiteclaw to position herself and then commands her to deal a blow to the remaining newts.

"Come on Whiteclaw! let's finish this off"

Whiteclaw's basic melee. (1d20+9=10, 1d10+9=13)

Maybe she was just getting a little too enthusiastic

Scented water sluices around Whiteclaw as she shakes off the remnants of the first newt swarm and heads towards the second. Skidding slightly on a disregarded scale, her blow misses and not even Kia's happy urging can make an impact on the hissing beauties before her.

Lure of the Wild recharge (5,6) (1d6=4). No recharge. Stupid newts.

The newts turn elegantly, showing their glory to the gnoll. Somewhat to her surprise, she can't avoid looking at the creatures and they seize their opportunity. Whiteclaw is unable to drag her eyes away from them.

Attack on Whiteclaw (Ref). On hit target takes 3 ongoing damage and on an odd roll is dazed to end of their next turn. (1d20+9=24, 1d6+4=5). 5 hp damage to Whiteclaw, 3 ongoing (se) and dazed to end of her next turn.. Manually adjusted - it was just a basic attack, not the aura effect at the start of Whiteclaw's turn.

Gobi begins moving towards his target but paces himself, as he gets closer he hurls his magical shield once more. "Nasty slimy things, Going to get my shield all gunky."

Move to M3
Throwing Shield Vs AC (1d20+9=22)
Damage (1d8+6=14)

Gobi's prediction proves entirely correct as his shield deftly bisects several newts and brings him the results to admire at close quarters.
