Those who remained above finish the climb up top and settle into what seems to be a ceremonial attack formation...the tentacle lifts the large knight above you "The prophecy is not on your side." he says dramatically to the party, the dark crack in his moist metal helm not showing a hint of expression. "Drop your weapons. Abandon your employer. Help us retrieve the codex. Swear it, and I will call off the assault. Until that time..." he glances down at the men with the strange serrated arms and armor who move in for the kill...

The Reaver (Red) and another cultist (Blue) run up the stairs into melee with Abrel and Bhoors. A closer look at the Reaver's blade reveals that it is indeed consisted of sharkteeth...much like a macuahuitl. It slashes up at Bhoors...

Reaver atk Bhoors: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

...the tiny little razors make for a painful gash in the plucky bard's side. The cultist (Blue) slashes up at Abrel with his scimitar...

...but the height difference easily confuzzles his inexperienced stance.

Bhoors, correct you were to be protecting the dwarf. He never mentioned any treasure of any kind, until now, that sneaky ass. Also yes the ballistae can rotate around and be fired (Attacks with Dex + water vehicle prof, if any. d12 dmg, takes action to reload, only a few bolts (say d4) laying around up here)

Bhoors was delaying movement assuming his charge that he thought he was protecting was going to flee with him. So he was certainly there for the getting hit. Does he still have his 1st round movement?

Oh assuming I am not dead it will become relevant. Number of Ballista missles: 1d4 ⇒ 4

Bhoors winces at the hit and rolls his head on his shoulders like the dwarf revealed as holding out on them was par for the course. He yells down the stairs, "We will be negotiating Hazzard pay following this."

With a glare at her dwarven employer, Shaldinari slides to the side and takes out her initial frustration by following Bhoors advice and blasting something. The symbol at her throat flashes to life and is quickly followed by a familiar purple blast flying from her hand toward the verbose enemy knight.

Seeing that the fight on deck is going well, Elandil rushes down the hatch after his employer. Through gritted teeth, "Bloody paranoid bastard!"

10ft to the hatch so i have 25ft of movement and an action left. What's going on down here?

AvernusArt 2Grid

Shal's blast strikes the knight square, knocking him loose of the tentacle's grasp and he goes flying...well, crashing...to the deck. The octopus quickly feels around sucking randomly trying to find him again, but finds the task difficult since its eye is below the water.

Elandil, you reach the bottom just in time to see Furgis slam the door to his quarters and hear the lock catch. Across the tiller down a long central hall you see the other half of the boarding party advancing towards you, destroying everything in their path as they go. Even the ship's adorable cat, Jinx, is not spared a hearty boot as it flies out the port hatch. What kind of bastard kicks a cat like that?

Ill get a map for this level in a sec, they are in the 60' neighborhood away from you down there.

Davin plunks two arrows into the plate of the dark knight...who slashes down at them breaking the shafts and powering through the pain. Bhoors turns the crank on the ship's weaponry multiple times, the gears squeaking mechanically, before a burst of wind sends the huge 6 foot shaft flying across the main deck! It misses the octopus whisperer by a sucker before blasting through the rear cabin wall in a burst of splinters.

Bhoors, next turn, it takes an action to reload. You could instead walk across to the other one which is already loaded.

Ouch!!!

Abrel, taking three powerful hits, rocks back on his heels, What in the blazes are you doing down there? Blasted dwarf!

The knight takes a quick look around and swings his blade across the cultist sparking a gout of green flame!

After that palpable hit, Abrel seems to catch his second wind!

Back up to 15 hp.

EDIT: Is the cultist dead?

1 person marked this as a favorite.
AvernusArt 2Grid

Abrel's blade decapitates the cultist, and as the head falls the air around the swipe congeals into a burst of elvish magic, an olive firelash swinging back and striking the knight as an affront to his authority. The cultists lifeless body rolls down the forecastle stairs.

Indeed, and with his death the sneak attack capability of the knight is removed. Clever tactic!

Watching as the giant octopus continues to batter away at the ship, Shaldinari slips across to where she is closer to the docks. She stops for a second to shout down below to the others. "You all better get that bloody fool dwarf back up here! This ship isn't going to last much longer against the blasted beast. "

"Not that he'd be any great loss to society." She mutters as she steps over near boars and with a quick gesture, calls on the Lady of Summer to illuminate her enemies which begin to glow with an eerie purple aura.

Cast Faerie Fire (DC 12 Dex save to negate) on the remaining two cultists

Davin fires again at the knight. This time his arrow seems to be wreathed in a nebulous shadow that makes it hard to even see where the weapon is.

I think so. Seems like a waste of the spell for just the one guy. I'll just try another eldritch blast.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Wis vs Davin: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12

The arrow pierces the knight near the collarbone, and the nebulous darkness begins to flow upward into his face. With a quick swipe, he doffs his helm and the black cloud gets carried away leaving behind only his grotesque face...white and swollen like a drowned man, soft blue eyes, and a short, dark, neat trimmed beard. A flash off light illuminates his features like a lightning strike as Shal's fickle fey energies reject their target.

The wood of the ship continues to bend and buckle noisily under the stress of the octopus, and you can hear it shattering and taking on water. AvernusArt 2Grid

Davin's arrow surprises the Reaver at the door, nearly killing him.

Abrel, whats your strength score? 14 or 15? Assuming 14 you can drag 420 lbs, but anything above your carrying capacity means you drop to 5 ft speed. So you could probably scoot both back 5 ft if it were clear, or choose one to scoot back farther. However, since they moved up after dropping El and Cole you'd face an AoO or 2.
