Tomas Stormborn |
No More re-roll for me :(
Racing up the stairway Tomas grunts as the great demon foe reaches down and connects a foul claw to the centre of his borrowed armour, bruising ribs beneath metallic flesh. Reaching the console he looks away for a moment to check on Ollysta's progress, much to his error. Fiendish eyes stare straight into his soul as he feels his body lock up despite his orders to move.
This accursed tower! the thought rages through his mind as the demon looks on in glee, bringing its pick down on the breastplate of the Mendevian plate and causing a great rent across its surface.
+1 Mithral full plate has 17 hardness and 55hp so dmg = 46/55hp
Imbroglio "Vinnie" Guarini |
Vinnie watches the others suddenly go stiff and still. Noticing no one is activating the weapon, he sighs and laments the need for those of skill to do it themselves. He sidles into the room, averting his eyes from the big demon! 50% chance to avoid, High is good for me: 1d100 ⇒ 56 He moves toward the console and starts looking at it, trying to figure it out!
Herodotus Vanatir Krezla |
I'll change some ofmy actions, since it looks like Ollystra isn't doing very well. When did the other crusaders drop? Also, I thought that the demon by the control panel was bored out of his mind, how was he able to attack?
Herodotus steps forward and hesitates. He was about to obey Tomas's order, but seeing Ollystra's plight, he changes his mind, and shouts to the Pathfinders further up. "I am about to heal you all, but the beast by the device will be healed as well! Deal with him!"
"Inheritor, guide our blades and renew our strength!"
Declaring smite on the big guy anyway, since I already said that. Channel positive, should hit almost everyone, except for the big guy and the downed creature.
Channel Positive NRG: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 6) = 10
Slothsy |
Sorry, I somehow mentally advanced a round. The crusaders are still up; Tomas's armor is at full hit points and the demon is contemplating what smashing really means.
My notes say that Tomas has the prism from the puzzle room (0 charges), and Sihir has the prism from alchemical lab (4 charges). Ionwe has the the fully charged (8 charges) on and Herodotus has the other empty one. Keep in mind you can charge them by casting a good-aligned spell into the spell (charges equal to the spell level), directing a channel into it (charges equal to the number of dice rolled) or by concentrating on it as a full-round action as a good-aligned character to restore 1d4 charges, though the creature doing so will take 1 negative level.
Fatima - the console is 20 feet up.
Vinnie - The console is 20 feet up. Are you able to fly or are you taking the stairs?
The large demon stares at the children in glee and reaches out to grab one in his hand. He goes to throw it in its mouth, but roars with anger as he realizes it is a mere illusion.
Will Save: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (9) + 18 = 27
The Silver Crusaders take their chances and continue to attack with all their might. Ollysta calls out to Herodotus as the light of Iomedae glows on her brow, "Much needed, crusader! For the Inheritor!"
The demon at the console continues to stare, bored and unsure of what it wants to do. Idly it looks at Tomas, then the console, then Ionwe and sighs.
Will Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Round 5 - The Control Room
Party's Up! Everyone's up! Don't forget your Fort Save (DC 21) if you're within 30 ft of the demon- Tomas, Fatima, Vinnie, Ionwe, Herodotus, Sihir
Enemies + Crusaders
Ab Console - 64
Shem - 100/246
Ollysta - 60/80
Console Rounds - 4/2
Slothsy |
As Tomas and Ionwe head into the console room, they see a control panel with four octagonal slots in its center, each the right size for a single sacred prism. It is somewhat damaged from the demon's attack, but still intact. Switches labelled "safety", "arm weapon" and "open windows". On each end of the panel, 15 feet apart, are dial labelled "activate weapon".
Loading a sacred prism into a slot is a move action. Arming the weapon is a full-round action that provoke an attack of opportunity. You must turn both "activate weapon" dials at the same time as a standard action. If you wish, you can make an Intelligence check or UMD check to coax greater performance out of the weapon.
Sihir Aneh |
Wouldn't he have had to move a bit to reach any of them, or is his reach really THAT long?
Sihir smiles weakly. That didn't last long, he thinks as he casts his next spell (fly on myself, but not doing too much with it this round).
Tomas Stormborn |
Shrugging off the paralysis wracking his body, Tomas keeps his attention focuses on the machine, attempting to avoid another look at the large fiend's tainted eyes. However his battle sense gets the better of him and he glances to make sure he is not under threatnof attack.
1 need save, 2 dont: 1d2 ⇒ 1
fort: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Once more the demon's gaze wracks his body with paralysis.
Fatima al-Izarin |
With her lizard aspect, Fatima scampers up the wall and into the control room. Double move.
Slothsy |
Wouldn't he have had to move a bit to reach any of them, or is his reach really THAT long?
Sihir smiles weakly. That didn't last long, he thinks as he casts his next spell (fly on myself, but not doing too much with it this round).
I'm confused about the placement of your spell, as you said they were walking in. Could you mark on the map where it is? And you want to get the shemhazian to move from its corner (where its reach is limited to a quarter) into the center of the room (where it's going to be able to threaten the entire room)?
Sihir Aneh |
I had placed the illusions (you get up to 4 10-ft squares plus 1 per level), but then removed them when it made its saving throw. They were taking up a lot of space, not just the doorway. I suppose I was more hoping to move it from one corner to the other.
Herodotus Vanatir Krezla |
Herodotus grabs hold of his crystal, and channels energy into it.
The negative level for 1d4 charges, is it a permanent negative level or a temporary level?
Sihir Aneh |
You're a Paladin. You can channel positive energy - you don't have to drain yourself if you don't really want to.
Herodotus Vanatir Krezla |
I understand, I'm just not sue that I can fully charge it using my channels

Round 5 - The Control Room
Party's Up! Don't forget your Fort Save (DC 21) if you're within 30 ft of the demon- Tomas, Fatima, Vinnie, Ionwe, Herodotus, Sihir
Enemies + Crusaders
Herodotus - are you channeling positive energy (charges equal to the number of dice you would roll) or are you going to be channeling your own energy. If so, you'll get 1d4 ⇒ 2 charges back.
Herodotus Vanatir Krezla |
I was channeling positive energy. I was pondering taking a negative level next turn.
Slothsy |
No longer distracted by the illusory children or Fatima's soft, chewable body, the shemhazian turns back to the silver crusaders, advancing slowly upon it. It reaches down and bites one of the crusaders cleanly in half, chewing with a smug, satisfied grin as its massive hand crushes the other one.
Ollysta cries out, "The weapon, work on arming the weapon!"
The wrecker demon continues to survey the chaos in the control room with a detached air. It yawns slightly and starts to move toward Herodotus, but stops dead after a step.
Will Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Round 6 - The Control Room
Party's Up! Don't forget your Fort Save (DC 21) if you're within 30 ft of the demon- Tomas, Fatima, Vinnie, Ionwe, Herodotus, Sihir

Control Panel: 1/4 prisms - 8 total charges.
Sihir Aneh |
Sihir flits about in the shadows of the upper floor Stealth, for safety's sake and Because I Can: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21, then takes out the prism he'd been carrying, and imbues it with an eerie glimmer that embodies just a bit of the noble spirit, brilliant aspirations, and creative genius of the arcane.
I cast burst of radiance into my prism.
Fatima al-Izarin |
Fatima keeps her eyes closed, and attacks the wrecker demon.

Tomas Stormborn |
Tomas tries to keep his eyes firmly focused on the console and not the large demon destroying his crusader bretheren. But winces as he hears the crunch of armour and tries to fight the muscle wrenchinng paralysis.
1 save, 2 not save: 1d2 ⇒ 1
fort: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Once more the Warpriest's muscles seize, the empty crystal held uselessly in his hand.
Sigh..
Herodotus Vanatir Krezla |
Herodotus channels Iomedae's radiance into the crystal once again. Inheritor, hear my prayer, keep the Lady Ollysta safe and do not desert me in my hour of need.
"Herod? That thing just spat out that other dude's spine. Just FYI. No rush."
Ionwe Ver'Ha |

Slothsy |
FEAR THE PAIZO DICEBOT, FOR ITS WRATH IS GREAT AND WITHOUT MERCY.
As a note, because I think I just assume everyone knows everything I know, the max number of charges a crystal can hold is 8. So, currently, we have an fully charged crystal in the panel, a fully charged crystal with Herodotus, a partially-charged (6) crystal with Sihir and an empty crystal with Tomas.
Keep in mind, after everyone places their crystals in the panel, you'll need someone to spend a full-round action (standard and a move) to arm the weapon. Then, to fire the weapon, two characters will have to turn the dial at the exact same time (using readied actions for Pathfinder rules ways of doing this).
Round 6 - The Control Room
Party's Up! Don't forget your Fort Save (DC 21) if you're within 30 ft of the demon- Tomas, Fatima, Vinnie, Ionwe, Herodotus, Sihir
Enemies + Crusaders
The wrecker demon dies in a flash of steel, spells and stabs. It cries out in Abyssal, "So this is what breaking feels like" as its body slumps over.
The Shemhazian smiles as picks up Ollysta Zadrian, Silver Crusader and paladin of Iomedae. Playing with her, it tears one of her arms off laugh, a sick rip and crack of muscle and bone separating. The metallic stench of blood wafts toward the control panel and the curdling screams of the paladin tears through the air as the demon tortures her. As her screams end, the room falls silent.
Fatima al-Izarin |
Efffff...
"Sihir, distract the demon while we arm the weapon!"
Do we need to have all the crystals in the weapon to arm it? Would we know one way or another?
Imbroglio "Vinnie" Guarini |
Eye aversion, high is good for me: 1d100 ⇒ 80 Vinnie feels his limbs unfreeze.
"DISTRACT IT? HOLY SMEDDING!" Vinnie shudders and throws his best spell at the giant demon, fingering his lesser piercing metamagic rod, which lowers the beast's SR by 5.
"Hey, demon! Why don't you head back to the Abyss and take a nice, long relaxing nap?" Casting Suggestion!
SR check vs SR -5!: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 = 25 If this gets through, Will Save DC 23!
Fatima al-Izarin |
Fatima focuses her attentions on her allies below to avoid the creature's gaze.
Avert Eyes (low is good): 1d2 ⇒ 1
"Sihir, Herodotus! Toss me your crystals!"
Fatima readies an action to load a crystal into the panel when one is tossed to her.
Tomas Stormborn |
avert eyes, 1 is good: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Finally steeling himself against the cries and deaths of his fellow crusaders Tomas readies himself to charge the crystal, knowing the spells he has remaining are low ge chooses to sacrifice his essence to refill the weapons batteries.
gain a negative level for: 1d4 ⇒ 1 charges. I hate dicebot...
I think there are 4 slots, if so: if only three ill let the higher charged ones in
Then he places the nigh on empty crystal in the control panel.
Herodotus Vanatir Krezla |
Herodotus tosses the crystal to Fatima as Gamin comments "And there goes your boss. Awesome. Hope you have a plan."
"Yes. Honor her sacrifice." spits the paladin in reply, drawing the sword.
Ok, so a couple things. First, as much as I'd like it to have 8 charges, by my count my crystal has 6. Second, do I need to roll ranged touch to throw my crystal at Fatima? Third, can someone give a crystal more charges if it is in someone else's hands? For example, Tomas has channeled his life force into the crystal, can Ionwe grab onto it and also channel her life-force into it?
My plan is to use Gamin's guidance ability to help Vinnie UMD the device into high gear since it's had a rough time at the hands of the demons. The only question is do we really have that amount of time left? And do we have enough charges?
Finally, and I ask this because it's hard to understand whats going on with scenario-specific mechanics in a PbP; did my initial Channel Energy, done with the crusaders and Ollysta's health in mind, actually buy us time? You may choose not to answer this last question, this is more for personal edification.
Slothsy |
Just to be transparent, since this can be a frustrating fight if things aren't clearly shown: yes, your channel energy bought an extra round of time, as did Fatima's decision to try and melee with the creature and Sihir's illusion. Because of your channel energy, Ollysta is currently alive (but barely and only due to a heroic defiance), though I guess I went a bit overboard with description there, haha.
You're right on charges - I thought you had a 4d6 channel for some weird reason; so currently 21 charges between the crystals, with 9 charges currently in the machine.
Tomas Stormborn |
Go Vinnie!
Imbroglio "Vinnie" Guarini |
Folks, I do one thing. But I do it well. Now, Vinnie is going to have a lie down...
Vinnie nearly wets himself with relief as the giant demonic thing goes marching away. "I...I think I have peaked. Let's get that weapon going before he wises up and comes back to eat us." Vinnie murmurs, leaning heavily on the console to keep from falling over.
Herodotus Vanatir Krezla |
So for the next few hours, that demon is going to be heading back towards the Worldwound, yawning. I thought I had seen it all. I stand corrected.
Thank you for the clarification, now are we still in combat rounds or can we take a few more rounds to charge the weapon? Can a crystal be removed to further be charged?
Sihir Aneh |
Vinnie to CR 16 demon: GO. TO. YOUR. ROOM!
Sihir had been a few steps ahead, but he had NOT counted on that.
He flies up to the control tower and looks at Vinnie. "Why are you not king of somewhere?"
He puts his prism in the machine. "I've done about as well as I can with this one. Was there another one we missed?"
He looks over the machine, now that he's reached it.
Knowledge (Engineering): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Knowledge (Planes): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30
Slothsy |
Vinnie has found that Mom Voice is super effective! The wrecker demon died, knowing what it was like to be smashed. The shemhazian needs a bit of a napnap after eating too many paladins. It gives it an upset stomach AND it spoiled its dinner.
Unless you wish to keep fighting the beast as it leaves, you are out of rounds. Keep in mind that you can make an intelligence or UMD check to fire the weapon super well.
Sihir - you did leave one behind, but there are also only four slots for crystals in the control panel.
