Ah, we still have both our new players. Excellent. I'll try to get first drafts of your characters done tomorrow for you to look over.
I'm also probably going to do a scene shift to move us along, given the loss of time on the game.
It'll be tomorrow afternoon/evening though, got a job interview in the AM.

Cityspeaker Redshift |

Still here though here has not been HERE much lately.
We're in some Wonderland Caterpillar "Whom are youm?" levels of wackiness on the servers, lately.

Hey folks, A dear friend of mine died and I will be traveling to attend a funeral over the next few days. I'll check in when I can.

Sympathies and condolences, friend. :(

Ok, so I didn't get as much done as I wanted to today. Still waiting to hear from Chatterbox, hope we didn't lose him.
I did get the first pass on Sabre robot form done. Please look it over and offer feedback. I realize you may not know the system yet, but basically :
Four weapons : Sword (which can be taken away from him, or restrained if he's entangled), Chain Gun (which requires two hands to use, and can be restrained), 4 TOW Missiles (Area of effect Line, double AP, Restrainable), 4 Hellfire Missiles (Explosion, Restrainable, Single AP)
Limited mobility and flight
Night vision and Heat Vision
Bonus DCV vs Heat Seeking or Radar Seeking missiles (requires an action to use it, up to 4 per combat).
Some basic skills as he's 'young'.
Because he's cold forged, he's something of a cross between a soldier and a warrior, so inbetween and neither (shorter than Optimus, bigger than Hound).

Cityspeaker Redshift |

MDT, I'm asking this in good fun, but I do ask it because it seems to come up a lot --- but are all your military NPC's swaggering cocky John Wayne types? They're all supremely self-assured and really seem to think they know all even when they don't...
Which, you know, a good officer will always admit when they don't know something, and find solutions from within their command with the time honored 'give me options' command, while a bad one will double down on their bad calls...
They remind me of my old senior command staff back in my ROTC days...
Whatever the answer, here's hoping the general actually listens rather than just shooting us in the face.

mdt |

Actually, I'm just trying to play them per the characters. If you remember from the Joe movies, they played Hawk as over the top (given the actor, it's hard not to go that route, Dennis Quaid chews the scenery).
The commander of the USS Flagg was trying to push buttons to make you react. Their only experience so far is with Decepticons, and Cons have anger issues, so pushing their buttons is a good way to see if you're peaceful or not.
<<
>>
Then again, Hawk may be doing the same thing, pushing buttons...

Cityspeaker Redshift |

I... may have blocked those films out of my mind entirely.
For values of "may" equaling "long ago took the time to do so."
For what it's worth, Redshift is definitely choosing his words so as to make it clear he's done his reading and knows that these "Joes" are ultimately answerable to a civilian authority. But Hawk is almost certainly smart enough to figure that out and counter maneuver.

Autobot Chatterbox |

I'm afraid I'm going to bow out of the game. I'm just not clicking with the ruleset and I feel I need to study it before I play. Thanks for the experience and I wish you the best!

Well, that sucks, but it's why I took 2 players in. :(
Sorry for the delays, the website being down sucked a lot of my time when I had time to post/work on characters. This week I've been battling migraines all week. I don't post well when I have migraines. Takes all my energy to do the job search thing with a migraine. I'll have something up later today for the new players.

Cityspeaker Redshift |

Do they know what causes your migraines? It took about ten years, but they finally tracked mine down to associated symptoms from my TMD (which many people often misname TMJ). Turns out that the nerve that runs right through the jaw (the mandibular nerve) impacts two other important nerves. Too much stress was causing the TMD to flare, which put pressure on the mandibular, which impacted the others, and BOOM, migraine.
But, again, it took about ten years to nail that down.
If you have anything related to TMD, it might be worth looking at. Stress is a hell of a drug. :(
I hope you feel better soon, boss!

mdt |

I got rear ended by a moving van when I was 15, and the nerves on the side of my head were sent into a permanent over-excited state. The ones behind my ears. These over-excited nerves constantly fire in a pain spasm, which my brain mostly ignore. However, the constant pain feedback from them alters my brain chemistry and neural responses, and thus I develop more frequent headaches (migraines) from the negative feedback loop they facilitate.
Short of severing the nerves, and leaving my scalp and the back of my head permanently numb, there's no way to stop them.

Bit of a cross post, forgive if repetitive.
Off-topic, but if folks are interested in playing students at an academy for Wizards and Witches, in a rules-light, open-ended setting with lots of room for fun (and specifically targeted at new players, younger players, or experienced players who want a break from the grimdark), feel free to check out I Want To Be A Wizard!, a game by yours truly.
I assure you that all the serial numbers have been filed off the brooms. ;)

Cityspeaker Redshift |

Harry Potter-ish? Or more homebrew?
One could, if one wanted, create an Academy that was very similar to a particularly well-known fictional school of witchcraft and wizardry, yes.
We don't have the license for the Harry Potter property, so...
You could also, say, create a French school named for beautiful wands, or an all-boys school from Russia...
The rules are very light and highly open ended for just this purpose. :)

cool!
Thanks! I hope you like it!
(If you do, please tell your friends! If you don't, please tell me!)
It's specifically built with no death mechanics - you can get knocked out, and your Familiar can get severely hurt, but that's about it.
Also, as a playtester noted, the Experience mechanics are set up in such a way that you only actually learn things when you're not in school, which seems to be the way of things for the Magical Child genre. ;)

GM smashed his hand in between the truck tailgate and cap cover this week, severely bruised right middle fingertip (purple under the nail) and scraped a bunch of skin off. Hard to type, so sorry about that. Feelign better now.

Skitter the Autobot |

doh! glad youre healing

mdt |

To all my games :
Sorry everyone, things have been really hectic RL. After smashing my hand 2 weeks ago, my right hand (dominant hand!) is almost back to normal, other than the middle finger which has this odd numbness in the tip (I apparently crushed some nerves, so will need to wait for them to grow back). Additionally, as of last Thursday, I had to move my Dad to another assisted living facility. This required me to spend all day Thursday picking up, transporting, and assembling 400 lbs of new Ikea furniture (with the numb digit). Then Friday was all day moving him into the new place, and assembling the rest of the furniture. Finally, Saturday I pretty much slept through as I was in tremendous amounts of pain (working on a freezing floor and lifting heavy stuff with a bad back for two days). Sunday I spent all day again working on his room.
I had to put together more furniture, this time for my Mom, Monday. And finally, today was busy all day doing errands (groceries, etc) that I hadn't done all last week.
I will try to get all the posting done tomorrow. Apologies again.

Skitter the Autobot |

no need to apologize

mdt |

To all my games :
Apologies for the lack of posting. October was... not fun. Life sucker punched me, and while I was distracted with the bloody nose, Fate snuck up behind me and beat me with a baseball bat.
Things are clearing up, but it may be after the holidays before I have the energy to post regularly.
On the good side, it's looking like I may be employed before Christmas again, so yay.
Again, apologies for falling off the face of the earth, just... as I said, October was not a good month.

Skitter the Autobot |

no worries. Life takes precedence :)

Do what you gotta, boss.

To all my games,
I'd again like to apologize for the lack of posting in October/November. It was about 30% physical, 30% mental, and 40% situational. I don't want to go into all the details, but I really did need the two months to deal with life and recharge my batteries. I spent a lot of time running around doing job searching, a lot of which included driving for 6-8 hours a day doing job interviews in Houston, which is a 3 hour drive for me. I almost had to move to Houston to get work, as I was not finding anything in Austin.
I do have good news though, all the hard work was worth it. I had two job offers arrive within a 24 hour period right before Thanksgiving. I am happy to announce that as of yesterday, at 8AM EST, I am now gainfully employed again with an international company. Best of all though, I am not going to have to move to Houston for it, I can stay in Austin and travel as needed while working remotely.
My health, and the health of all my family, is also in a much better place as of this week (other than a really nasty chest cold that made the rounds in the house, and for which I'm still hacking up congestion from).
Thank you for your patience, and I hope life is going well for you also.

Everyone back from Holidays yet?

Sorry all, my mother was rear ended this afternoon by some idiot in a cargo truck while she was stopped on a 2-lane highway to make a left turn. He was going about 60mph (about 95-100kph for our European friends). She's ok, but they're keeping her in ICU for a day or two due to her age and a head wound that they don't think is serious beyond some scarring. Just got back from the ICU after they got her situated. I'll try to get a post up tomorrow sometime.
This is complicated by my work not letting me post from work (Paizo is blocked).
