1 person marked this as a favorite.

Or More simply, how early can one plausibly "namedrop" Casandalee, Iadenveigh, Lords of Rust, and the Dominion of the Black?

They don't have to be mentioned directly, but enough to intrigue my players.

In my campaign, the namedrops occurred in this order:

Meyanda identified herself as a Lord of Rust and follower of Hellion.

Hellion talked to the party over the monitor screens and hologram projector in the excavator. It babbled about Unity, Casandalee, and the Dominion of the Black among other things. It described how Unity had sent gearsmen and annihilator robots after Casandalee and she defeated them, so it wanted to team up with her to defeat Unity. It showed holograms of the Dominion of the Black creatures to try to convince the party to join it against these dangers. When the party recognized the rhu-chalik, crazy paranoid Hellion decided that they were working with the Dominion of the Black.

Iadenveigh was mentioned in Kulgara’s notes as the last known location of Casandalee. I added a second set of notes stolen by a rogue from the Technic League that mentioned Casandalee and said the original report on Casandalee had been stolen by Furkas Xoud. In addition, when the party returned to Torch after Scrapwall and mentioned Iadenveigh to Khonnir Baine, I had Khonnir give them a letter from Feltic Dozenfingers (page 67 of The Choking Tower) asking him to investigate the water of Longbitter Lake. Since two of the PCs had been Khonnir's employees, they had a 100% legitimate reason to go to Iadenveigh and poke around.

I was actually thinking of moving Kulgara's notes to Meyanda. (The idea that an Int 6 Orc Barbarian would have such detailed notes bothers me.)

How did you have dialog with Meyanda?

That is a long story. Fortunately, I wrote that story down for my chronicle, Iron Gods among Scientists. Unfortunately, I had let the chronicle lapse before posting it.

I posted it today. It is the story from Session 12. In summary, Meyanda sent her collector robot out with a communicator to talk to the party. In addition, the party captured her alive.
