As soon as I first saw the Living Grimoire archetype, I immediately wanted to try to build one that also included some Tome Eater Occultist. As it is, I have no experience with either class, let alone the archetypes. Would this be something better suited for a Gestalt game, going one class more than the other, or leaving it on the cutting room floor?

2/3 casters often don't multiclass well, and neither of these is especially front-loaded. I wouldn't try that way.
In gestalt it'd be flavourful as hell and while it's not greatly powerful they could cover each other's gaps in some ways - the inquisitor getting spells of schools the occultist can't, physical sneaking from the inquisitor and casting spells without components via the occultist (getting cunning caster or similar sounds good), legacy weapon & sacred word to really buff that book.

I've tried-non gesult..
it.. sadly really didn't work at all. I became a great support knowledge/skill, tool guy. 100% because of thee Tome Eater skill points etc. and divination abilities.
but in combat?
I was quite literally pointless. I mean i wasn't worthless.. I did bits, and i was another target.. but compared to pure either version? I really had nothing to offer to the group in a meaningful way (i.e. more than a generic extra body)
Gesult sounds like it would be truly awesome.
I honestly still wish that the Tome Eater was hard written into allowing book use.
Like... What I would've wanted (though it is very not in Pathfidner sensibilities) would've been a magic book that had something like 30ft range, that allowed a ranged touch attack that did some roll +int.
Though I guess in a home game you could make a custom magic weapon like that or something.
Like. I'd love a Librarian Occultist archetype that gained that word sense thingy like tome Eater, but instead gained something like that magic book above, and some other book (not scroll) related stuff. Like.. ability to expand the spell list.. Like 1 per spell level "extra" spell of your choice if you find a book with said spell in it. Requiring it study every day.

I also just made the mistake of looking further down the list of Archetypes for Inquisitors. Sin Eater is stackable with LG.
No, I'm not totally thinking about making an arcane magic hunter that eats the magic and the "sin" of opposing casters.....
