adding Class Decks

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

I have the chance to pick up some of the class decks from a local retailer who's (sadly) closing and selling off his stock. Currently my wife and I are playing through RotR for the second time, using 4 characters instead of 2 this time, and we'll be playing S&S next.

It looks like a good number of the cards in these decks are not in RotR, and we're eager to add them to our game, but... are most of these new cards going to turn up in S&S? How many cards are unique to the class decks? Does anyone have a master list of all cards and which sets they're in? (I could make my own from the released deck lists, but the sale ends soon and I'd rather not spend time on it if someone else has already).

I did pick up the fighter class deck, and there are a few new blessings, but only one copy of each. Given the massive size of the blessing deck, I could see playing most of the game without seeing these. Maybe it's time to weed out all the C deck blessings?

thanks

As far as I can tell, the cards are a mix of boons from Runelords, Skull and Shackles, and Wrath. There are a few cards that seem to be unique to each class deck, but those may end up appearing in the Wrath set later (or another set that hasn't come out yet).

The characters themselves are all unique, though. Even a character like Valeros, who was appears in both Runelords and Skull and Shackles, gets a unique build in his class deck version.

There are a lot of threads talking about adding Class Decks to your box.

The Class Decks were designed to be part of the organized play (Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild). But many people use them with their base AP (Adventure Path). Usually they add them to the box in order to support one of the characters from that class they are playing.

So if you bought the fighter deck, I'd take a look at the fighters in there, Flenta, Tontelizi, Valeros and Vika. If you're wanting to try one of them out, you can either just play the character with the AP set as is or add the appropriate cards (B's and 1's if you're playing Adv 1) as you go along. There are some cards that are from RotR and some from S&S in each deck. Also, remove the appropriate cards at higher adventure decks.

If you're not going to play one of the characters from the class deck, then I wouldn't add any cards.

Oh, I've read a lot of the threads about adding class desks... I was kind of hoping someone would have a list.

So, to partially answer my own question, I ran though the lists for the class decks in this sale, and determined that these are the cards in each that are not in RotR or S&S:

Fighter: Greatclub, Ranseur, Spiked Chain +1, Cestus +1, Lucerne Hammer +1, Shock Glaive +1, Warhammer +2, Paralyze, Unearthly Aim, Masterwork, Life Leech, Signal Whistle, Hat of Glamour, Whetstone, Belt of Giant Strength, Squire, Rogue Ape, Evangelist, and Merren Unwin.

Wizard: Dancing Mace +2, Paralyze, Masterwork, Displacement, Icy Prison, Life Leech, Robe of Vision, Chameleon, Apprentice, Incanter, Animal Tamer, Scribe, and Clockwork Owl.

Ranger: Greatclub +1, Main-Gauche +1, Disrupting Rapier +1, Wounding Spear-Axe +1, Adamantine Poniard +1, Vicous Double-Axe +1, Dancing Mace +2, Beast Skin, Endurance, Divine Blaze, Forest Walk, Venomous Bolt, Ophidian Armor, Whetstone, Belt of Giant Strength, Belt of Incredible Dexterity, Rabbit's Foot, Pure Holy Water, Merchant Lord, Clockwork Owl, and Merren Unwin.

Sorcerer: Main-Gauche +1, Good Omen, Unearthly Aim, Life Leech, Robe of Energy Resistance, Robe of Vision, Ivory Dice, Mist Horn, Rabbit's Foot, Chaos Stone, Incanter, Menagerie Keeper, Apprentice, Reveler, Ataxian, and Clockwork Owl.

I'm putting this here in hopes it will be useful/informative to someone else. I'll probably pick up the Ranger deck, myself. Neither of us is playing a ranger in the current game, but many of those cards look to be broadly useful.

cheers

Just a quick correction: the Belt of Giant Strength and Belt of Incredible Dexterity are both in Runelords.

Ah yes, the deck list starts at the bottom of the left column, not at the top of the right. Good catch!

Very few of the class deck cards appear to be unique to the individual class decks (apart from the characters themselves). I think Ivory Dice is in S&S, but am not sure. Good Omen and a few of those other cards are in Wrath of the Righteous. I would not be surprised if the # of unique cards per deck hovers around 20-25% (including the 12 and now nine character cards), but that's just a rough estimate without the cards in front of me.

I would consider Class Decks for the completionist, for those looking for unique characters, and for organized play.

I would not suggest getting them in order to add a lot of unique, class-specific flavor & boons to a box set. The small number of cards unique to each class deck seems to get pretty diluted by the non-unique boons in the box set and the class deck itself.

Then you just get sad when the rare occasion comes that you see one of those cards and fail to get it...like when Lini in my group YOLO-explored with no cards and hit Centipede Poison, and my Olenjack was sad to see it go. Fortunately, Hawkmoon's Damiel is more than willing to "poison me up" to power Olenjack's extra explores.

Honestly, though, if you're not going to be playing one of the characters in the class deck (that you're pulling cards from) then I wouldn't add cards. There are also lots of threads about balance of cards and watering down the box.
