Silver Crusade 4/5

Hi All,

I'm looking to take a group of Pathfinders through the Emerald Spire soon, and thought it would be a good idea to tackle the nearby Thornkeep dungeons as well since we'll all be in the River Kingdoms anyway.

While it's quite easy to justify why a Pathfinder would be at either of these locations, I'm a bit stuck at the moment on finding a justification why someone should stop exploring the spire to tackle the next level of Thornkeep or vice versa. Any insight here would be great.

As the idea would be to run most of it on the slow track, I'm considering running a few scenarios with it as well. Any suggestions as to what might work well with the spire would be appreciated.

Chronologically Thornkeep happens before Emerald Spire. If you read the Emerald Spire background section though, there are a couple mentions of Thornkeep as being the place that Klarkosh (later seen in the Spire) first used as a hideout. You could probably pretty easily re-flavor both ruins being discovered at the same time and when you need to make a switch between them have the PCs run into a door that can't be opened and requires a team of Pathfinders better suited to such a thing to allow them access to the next level. Simultaneously, they could receive a Sending from your Venture Captain of choice who lets them know that the previous team cracked the door at the other ruin. It may be a little hokey, but it gets the job done and gives a better explanation for how people are free to buy whatever they want between at least some of the scenarios.

The arcane academy in the town of Thornkeep may ask Pathfinder agents -- whom they have assisted in solving the riddle of the door on level 1 -- to find their lost students. The trail leads to the Emerald Spire.

The Hellknights at Fort Inevitable might well be looking for the resident of Thornkeep Level 2, or for the missing rogues who show up in Level 3.

There's a character missing from Thornkeep, level 5. Logic indicates she'd make a bee-line to the Spire.
