The alias-creation thing seems to be malfunctioning. Hitting "create new alias" causes an error message, although a new default alias is then created. But when I try to edit it, that also creates an error message and I can't get into it. Is this a problem with you or something to do with my browser (though I'm on IE 10)?

I've recently had a similar issue. I picked a avatar name that was in use but didn't generate any results when I looked it up.
I'm not really in that situation. I can't even get into the avatar's page to edit it to change it. If I click on it it says, "Your search does not match any items".
I'm also having this problem.

Hey guys, our tech team is currently working to resolve this issue and hope to have a fix rolled soon. It looks like this is an outcrop of the maintenance that was performed yesterday afternoon.
Thanks. One more question if you don't mind. Is there a limit to the number of aliases an account can have?

I don't believe anyone has yet hit the limit of aliases, so create to your hearts content once this is resolved! ;)

I have had almost the same problem with the Avatar that has my real name (Lucius Chiaraviglio) ever since it was created, which is just short of 10 months ago. Actually, I can change the Avatar Icon for it, but I can't change anything else. The Avatar that I normally post under (including this time) hasn't had this problem (although I haven't tried since the upgrade that supposedly caused the current problem, and wouldn't dare to try until it is fixed, for fear of messing it up).
I'm currently getting an error page if I attempt to edit any of my existing aliases.

Yeah, we have a general patch for Org play issues coming most likely early next week.
Ugh. Will create character after super bowl I guess.
OK, I appreciate that this is a relatively low-level issue, but it was pointed out on Wednesday and still isn't fixed on Monday. When is this likely to be fixed?

Yes, I didn't expect them to do it there and then, it was more an enquiry about when it was likely to be fixed. And it may surprise you to realize than not everyone lives within a US time zone, and Washington State is maybe eight or nine hours different to me. If I restricted all my posting to Paizo office hours I would be up all night.

Indeed, many thanks, Cort and team.
Is this broken again? When I go the Aliases tab of my user settings, it just draws a single empty page-width rectangle under the tabs. There are no buttons, no fields to enter data... nothing further. I've tried with both Firefox.current and IE.current.
This is my first time trying to do anything with aliases, so maybe I'm Doing It Wrong.

I've never had this problem.

Both. :-)
As you can tell, I've become somewhat skilled at cranking out aliases. :-)
