With the death of R.A. Montgomery I was wondering if you would care to create one of those choose your own adventure books.

1. 'you awaken with no memory of how you got there in a room with a single exit across which is draped a black curtain around the edges of which spill light from somewhere beyond.'
Investigate the room (GOTO 4)
Investigate the curtain (GOTO 8)
Listen for noise (GOTO 6)

4. 'the room is rough hewn from a dark stone. The floors, walls and ceiling are rough hewn stone. Though the room only seems to contain you there are fissures and cracks in places.'
Investigate the cracks and fissures (GOTO 10)
Investigate the curtain (GOTO 8)
Listen for noise (GOTO 6)

Do this in Lisp. ( music video )

If you set-up a -GitHub- project (so everyone in the world can collaborate), I'll work
on the code with you -- as will many others I'm sure. We'll build a giant, dnd based
room-search-game. It will be glorious!

And, check out >Chapter 5< . ( Here is a beginner's, beginning book gicl )

Look, it's a 'Lisp Listener' to use (it's not the best, but hey now you have one.) --> gcl

(If *you* set this all up, then you will have control.)

.

You will need to. My antivirus keeps blocking access and saying it has malicious code.

The Plan:

0. Estimate how much you want to do this 'Choose Your Own
Adventure Project'. If greater than 20%, then do the following:

1. In your antivirus, set an exception for github. (use youtube)

2. Realize this is likely your last opportunity to learn game programming
(of a type); or programming, in general. Seize the day.

3. "How to use GitHub for Beginners"

4. Be the command and control guy -- the head manager -- and get this project
off the ground and flying towards the heavens; or into the dungeons as the case
may be. "Project Management in 8 minutes"

5. Read Lisp books 2 hours per day, then stop until tomorrow.

(I have final exams soon and more classes beginning, so have no
excess room in my brain to design 'Operations' for this endeavor.
But, I can program in my sleep.
Good luck.)

I've programmed in basic and machine 8086...and want to more than 80%...must disobey antivirus overlord...

Well, it's been a few days, resulting in silence, so I'm assuming this is an non-starter; and the end.

Still contemplating...this website is purely a hosting site? Wouldnt we want to create the choose your own adventure book here first and then develop the program to cope with the handling of the adventure path? How do we want to do the adventure path? Should we include time dependent changes to what is happening in other locations and changes dependant on changes created by the readers choices?

It's 99% used for code, but think of it as a filing system for every draft of a document.

Yes we want to develop a book first, but not here (for legal reasons).

You're the Manager. Make the decisions. Use a Gant Chart.

I would strongly suggest we first make a small, proto-type. Something super small with maybe 5 rooms. Once, we get our minds around the tools, and the code, and the process of creation, then we can stretch our legs and make it larger.

To Begin:
1. Pick a theme: Are we in a house, a castle, a dungeon, or a cave.
2. Let's start small with 5 rooms, so we don't get confused.
3. Give each room a Name.
4. Figure out how a player moves from one room to the next. ( Draw a room graph. >sample< )
5. Write a description for each room.
6. Put a key in one room, and a locked door in another room; and make it so you have to find the key, to unlock the door, to exit the story (and win.)

7. Post this in a Word .doc on Git Hub.
8. Divide up the programming tasks.
9. Assign programming tasks to participants.
10. Beat bushes with a stick to get programmers to work (unless it's me, because I'll be the one teaching you how to program.)

I realy think you are overthinking this project. Really the idea was to make it fun and random. Let me guess: Project management (Information Technology)?

Did you even attempt to make a room-graph?

something isometric with a room network map

This way it will tie in with building your own adventure module...

Did you f~@king do it yet?

If you want collaboration, we all have to see it. Hurry up.

Tick-tock.

We are going to be dead soon. Do you want to die never being able to program a game? Hurry up.

You best manage it. I'm hitting the old age wall...at ten kilometres an hour.

Oh, I can do it easily. But, like I said, I'm not going to do it for you.
