My team crushed Vengeance at Sundered Crag this morning, and now I prepare for The Elven Entanglement to boost my kill count.
The most amusing part of this morning was a cultist taking our unconscious summoner and threatening to kill him if we did not leave. My Oracle simply told him "I am Pharasma's agent on this plane, and no one here enters the Boneyard without my blessing." I then proceeded to use Breath of Life after the CdG, and casually mention that I can do that twice more before using my gloves.
Glad you enjoyed it! Were it not for my kind heart, surely that cultist would have used his scroll of disintegrate to even the odds.*

FanBoy Moment: I'm playing the marathon ACG (see above). The table currently exist with:
Tanis O'Connor (Paizo Adventure Card Game Designer)
Brian (Lead Editor for the ACG)
Lisa Stevens (CEO)Awesome...so my questions are getting answered and I notice that Lisa dances when she does something good.
Neat! Ask them if they saw my Thornkeep mini-path p1

Sweet!!
I guess I should update things..
After the first session of Card Game Demos (Demos and a Scenario from the Rise of the Runelords Marathon. Got to play the card game with the great Painlord (by the way, I did not get to thank you for your helpful posts from when I started as a PFS GM). Will be recommending lots of them for GM and Player handouts.
Oh, I forgot to add. If you have not tried the Skull and Shackles demo, it is a blast!!
Did my shopping at the store, grabbed the swagbag, and picked up my Volunteer Shirts for the weekend. Learned about Realmworks with the Lone Wolf development people. Currently relaxing until the Herolab seminar starts.
I did get to congratulate Rogue Eidelon on his addition to the Paizo staff and reconnect with Laura and share stories from last year. Saw some of the Pullman guys and gals. Got to meet Anthony, the New Orleans VL. Big Kyle, great to see you again in your home area. Scott from Moscow, ID; good to see you again.
Thanks for the maps again Richard.
Been a great con so far and now it is time to get back to the fun!!

So because I am stopping for a moment between sessions, I am going to do a quick recap.
Thursday PM:
-Wayfinder Dinner = Awesome! Got to meet Carlos Torresblanca who did my art for Wayfinder 10.
-Eventually made it to AFK -- to which needs to happen more in the Bay Area. Food was awesome, drinks were also awesome.
-Came back for after hours prep and good times with my roomates, Eric Bennett (Nefreet), Robyn Nixon and Brian Darnell.
Friday AM (as of 4pm)
-Ran Fate of the Fiend. Good times still abounded despite my rather powerful party. It was a pleasure to play with people from the Utah and New Jersey societies, and it was a even more fun watching
-My NeoExodus game unfortunately did not go off, I was excited to run that, but it's okay. Next time! But got to meet Clarence from Denver and Matthew Pittard from the fourms.
- Finshed some last minute printing, and harassed Master Kyle and Master Brock which ended up in me getting stuck writing thing for them on forms because I was the only one with decent handwriting.
-So now, after a shower and dinner, I begin my descent. Into the darkness of Jormadum I go and rule the world with the special! I look forward to killing-- I mean running the game for everyone.
See you soon!

Frank Mentzer was as awesome as advertised. Absolutely amazing playing unpublished AD&D "from the vault" stuff with a master such as he. Playing an enormously overweight 9th level cleric will forever go down as a favorite D&D moment. Thank you, Heather Halpin, for making that happen for me. You are now on a very short list of my very favorite people. (-:
Slot 2 was The Stolen Heir at table 27. I was thrilled to discover that Rob Knopp was my GM. I was even more thrilled to discover how awesome he is at role playing. Excellent characterization, voices, and expressions. Super fun session, made better because my character (Mihkel) earned free drinks for life from an Eagle Knight. Mihkel does love it when his "conversations" to go so well.
I've heard that Kyle Baird is out there somewhere. I don't really believe it at this point. He must be so quiet. Mouse-like, in fact.
Going to see if I can find food, and then maybe sit down with that Painlord guy.

Pre-Run bonus: Ran into Nani and Kyle Pratts...a delightful reunion. They just moved to Washington from GA, and Aroden bless them in their new home.
* * *
All...Compton and Brock are way too cool. While Feral (above) did luck out to get seated at a table with Brock and Compton, they gave up their seats to a pair of late shows. Aroden bless them both.
* * *
Our table for the Pre-GenCon Special (playing at 7-8):
GM Verdigris (one of the Bay Area's best):
Dawn K, Seattle. - Holy Warrior - Aasimar
James K from Minneapois - Zulfiya - Tiefling (Holy Warrior)
Alex G from Oregon -
Feral (above) - Brutus (a brute of some sort), Half-orc
Aethelwulfe - Darius - Half Orc, another brute
Painlord - Aroden Reborn (the god, obviously)
Of course, there will be no spoilers in this discussion, but I will point out things of interest.
We have 4 Paladins in the party. I do not worry about our lives...only that some of them do not worship Aroden in any way.

Holy Piddlespot! (I say this because we are laden with holy yahoos in this mod.)
We are rocking the holy here, our lack of any sort of play skill, teamwork, or good tactics has been more than compensated for by our zeal and interesting in hurting things with big, pointy weapons.
John Compton is doing great job narrating and the visuals are pretty sweet (they are tracking our progress as all the tables go on a few large screens).
So far the room entire seems to be doing quite well, but that could just be the effect of the cash bar outside the door.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Found food. Also found Painlord. He made the mistake of engaging me in a discussion about business and marketing tactics. I'm afraid my yammering and theories may have made him late for his game of Legacy of the Stonelords (chronicled above and, presumably, below).
Found Kyle. Far too boisterous and talkative to be the Kyle Mouse I was expecting...Ah! Figured it out! This is Kyle Elliot (aka Big Kyle). Makes so much more sense, now. Kyle Mouse remains elusive...
Got to see the 35 tables of the interactive in action. Screen effects look cool, background music and combat sounds are awesome, and John Compton (as always) is an exemplary Overlord. Also got a look at the playtest document and heard rumors about what will happen after the revisions. Those tables at GenCon are going to be awesome.
Most excellent panels (the tail end of Secrets of TSR, and all of Diversity in Gaming and Horror in RPGs) came afterward and have given me many fun things to throw at my players that I know they will enjoy. James Jacobs, F. Wesley Schneider, Crystal Frasier, et. al. really know their stuff. Weird how that works.
After bribing Mike to tell me I am at Table 1 in the morning for a game of You Have What You Hold with my GM Eric, I am looking forward to a night of rest. We shall see what tomorrow has in store.

Naturally, using pure divine retributions and more (un)holy oaths than my delicate ears can hear, we (not just our table) defeated the BBEG in the GenCon Special. I know it isn't much detail, but I don't want to spoil anything.
* * *
At the bar, Ben from Australia (a yahoo I met last year), stopped by to chit chat. *Remember, this is the only and most important thing about PaizoCon and similar conventions*: it's about the people you meet as you share common experiences and then, if you're lucky, you get to share the experience again.
So running into Ben, not really recognizing him, but sort of remembering, but then re-introducing ourselves and catching up...that's what I love.
Your realities may vary.

Carnivorous blobs are one of the most terrifying monsters I have ever run.
My table was 2 hit points away from taking down the BBEG of the Legacy of the Stonelords playtest when time was called.
With only five PCs in 10-11.
Mathishard and Agnee were the punching bags of the table as low AC barbarians, but the nearest death experience was Caw Cacaw the tengu bard taking 8 Con DRAIN in a single action.

Haven't had much time to look at the forums since getting here.... Arrived Thursday afternoon, then played in the two games Rusty Iornpants played in. Paile does a great Drandle Dreng.
Risen from the sands game was quite long-- no surprise we were told ahead of time that happens. Fun, though. As it got late, we all got kind of punchy... I felt a little bad for Rusty. (Especially once, without spoiling things too much, one player with an ability I think is maybe a little broke for a 4th level character was able to send minions forward to do things while the rest of us hung back and partied.)
That did, of course, mean getting only about 5 hours of sleep before today. (Yeah, wanted to get up early enough to shower before registration.)
As with last year, the registration line was intimidatingly long showing up 10 or so minutes before the 7AM opening, but it moved extraordinarily fast. I'm impressed with how the Paizo folks handle getting people through the registration lines and the swag handout. I've never seen such an intimidating-looking line go so fast.
Played Traitor's Lodge on Friday morning at a three-person table. (Kind of surprising; I thought a couple of weeks ago all the PFS tables were sold out.) Was fun; the other two players were fun to play with. Afternoon was my first Stolen Heir run. I had a good group of players, including some experienced players and three who where quite new to PFS and hadn't played much yet. Had fun hamming it up in a few places. Of course, I had already stared to lose my voice from Friday morning's game where I played, and then.....
The special, just completed was pretty jolly. I was in a tier 5-6 group. By the last third or so of it, I fear that my brain was started to fuzz out with fatigue. I wasn't thinking very fast, and probably drove the GM a little bit nuts. The PFS room was also noticably louder during the special than it had been during the other games, probably because just about every table was completely full.
Going to sleep now. Another full day tomorrow!

Also, congrats to TriOmegaZero for getting his fifth star with the running of his table at the Special tonight!
Drinking post: David Montgomery from Boston and TOZ are two of the most fun GMs to watch run games.
To expound on what I was to blitzed to say properly when Master Compton called me out, I could not have done this without my players and their willingness to risk PC life and limb for me, both in regular scenarios and specials like Bonekeep this past Sunday. And I especially could not have done it without the support of my wife and her tolerance of such a heavy gaming schedule.
Also, being announced to the entire 150+ crowd that had just completed the special was a surprise and honor I was ill-prepared to receive. :)

Following this from afar I feel a little bit more than jealous not being at PaizoCon. Well - I can't complain - I will be at PaizoCon UK in a few weeks with the whole family and at GenCon shortly afterwards.
So I hope some of the names I read here will also be at GenCon - even if GenCon likely is a less intimate place to chat with people.
@Painlord
Great to see you posting here again. It isn't the same without you. You are top on my list of people from PFS that I would like to meet - shame you are at PaizoCon and I will be a GenCon this year.
It really intrigues me that you went 100% to the Adventure Card Game. I was already on the brink to test it out - seems I really need to give it a try now.
@all the other multi-stars and frequent posters here
I hope to see at least a few of you at GenCon and will be able to chat with as many as possible. I have a light schedule (1 game/day apart of Thursday where I GM 1 and play 1) and hope to find enough time away from the DwarvenForge booth to chat with PFS players and GMs whom I only know via this medium.
This leaves one question - I haven't heard anything in this bloggery yet about PFO online which apparently can be tested at PaizoCon. Anyone here who could give a report about PFO at PaizoCon.
I offer a reward of a pint of beer if the person posting here also volunteers to place an advert for our settlement close to the PFO booth.
Doesn't need to look great - just in big letters the following text - The Emerald Lodge needs you (A PFS aligned Settlement).
For details about the Emerald Lodge Emerald Lodge
I accept a photo or a post of someone independent here as proof. Payment in person at GenCon or via PayPal. Alternatives to beer accepted.
I can't believe Open Road isn't openly recruiting - they miss a great opportunity to get more PFS players behind them and we really should have a place where PFS players can hang out together.

I'll see what I can do, Thod. I'm back in the card room, we are 8 of 33 through the marathon play. Hopefully, play will go faster today as we have more experienced players.
PFSers Kristina from Texas and Sarah from Idaho are helping run the ACG. It's awesome how PFS volunteers (and VOs) give their time around here.
We start Adventure 2 (Skinsaw Murders) now.

Thanks !! I guess I really need to try out the Card Game. I have some of the free RPG Skull and Shackles cards if you didn't get any. Just drop me a message and I send them your way.
Seems nobody knew what to do with them here at our store.
And maybe I should have offered some free coffee instead of beer - should have checked the time when people likely read what I posted ;)

Mustering apparently happens BEFORE 8:00 AM (I had been told otherwise by an attendee from last year) so I missed my Have What you Hold table. Rather than punt an unticketed player from that table I jumped into Assault on the Wound with Chris Rathunde (GM), Greg Raglund (Ghawlrune, half Orc Barbarian), Greg Schraub (Eclipse, Wayang alchemist), and Tony and Dorothy Lindman ( the incomparable Flutterfeet duo of cavalier and cleric). So far it's an army combat game (my table mates are keeping it entertaining for me), and my army just got crushed, affording me the opportunity to post. Side note: Chris rolls 30s like you wouldn't believe, so Assault on the Wound is more like Slaughter at the Wound. Yikes...
Edit: My fellow players are excellent battle leaders and seem to be pulling this out. Perhaps we can win the day?

Playing the ACG with Lisa Stevens (Ranzak), Ivan from Arizona (Lem), Clarence from Idaho (Ezren), Patrick for Birmingham (Amiri), Sarah from Idaho (Kyra) and Painlord (Lini).
I've learned that Lisa's favorite card is Amiri, which is also the name of her cat.
I had been playing mostly Lem and Seelah, now trying the druid for the first time. She's pretty good, explores well, and can handle most combats pretty well.
Ranzak is a favorite at the table.
p.s. I thought I saw Kyle Baird walk by in the hallway, but it was just a really dark shadow in the shape of a muffin.

As a GM I love me some carnivorous blobs!
However when one of the San Diego VLs uses animate dead on the poor defeated blob and then starts telekenitically charging it at opponents, it was a very sad day for the migrant population from Sarkoris.
Great visuals and good times!

Another break in between events, in an few hours, I am going to sign another scroll of silence and take part in the PFS Design Workshop. But before I do that, let me tell you all the things.
Friday PM:
-Completed the playtesting of Legacy of The Stonelords. I enjoyed it, and I wonder what the official will be like when it is done. I think I will play it the next go around so that I can be suprised as everyone else. When that will be? Who knows. :)
-I additionally have to give it up to my awesome players at the special. I had a table of players who knew every in and out of their characters AND their companions. Them being able to know what their turns are as soon as their turns came up, made the game move at an impressively fast pace. Sorry guys you didn't get to fight the final boss, maybe next time. :)
-The evening ended with the promotion of TriOmegaZero into the ranks of the 5-Star ellite. A title that is totally an accomplishment which was awesome to be a part of. Albeit late, congrats man! (Which means now I gotta hurry up and get to the island myself. Soon.)
Saturday to this point (2pm):
- The morning began with another run of Fate of the Fiend, with a good number of players sitting at my table. Additionally, there were two "vikings" who followed Narwhal, who had ships and had a great time running for them. My dice were rather hot, but the took all the pain like champions and were rewarded for their work.
-After a quick power nap, I now aimlessly wander the halls, until it is time for me to sign that silence scroll. I am going to find a power snack and wander some more.
Tonight.. Comes the Banquet and for me personally, the Overflow Banquet! Which means there will be many spoilers and fun things to come soon.
Cheers till then friends!

*REALLY* enjoyed that last game of ACG, the Skinsaw Murders, Crow Bait. To defeat the BBEG, we had 5 players working together (tossing blessings, boons, spells, etc.) to win. This game is very high in the cooperative mojo which makes it a great team experience. (If I had thumbs, rather than a collection of middle fingers, I would definitely give this a thumbs up.)
While playing that last round, since it was a life and death situation, I thought I felt the presence of Kyle Baird. I looked around for him, but realized that it was just a few leftover funyuns from the game before.

This morning I had a cool session of Library of the Lion with Sean, Sarah, and Robert, a fun and smart crew from Bellingham, WA. Nicholas Milasich from "just north of LA" (I guess would that be northern southern California ;) ran a great table! (Even if my cavalier won't stop talking to his shield now...)
Last night, during the "PFS Special" test run my half-orc barbarian rogue had to endure four Paladins, but that wasn't the worst of it, as Aroden also showed up in the most Painful way. ;) My thanks to Dawn K (Seattle), James K (Minneapolis), Alex G (Oregon), and Feral for showing PainLord what holy PCs can accomplish when they worship gods who aren't dead!

Ok, well here is how Saturday has been. Busy morning getting to Paizocon but got in and have ran some great demos of the new Skull and Shackles set coming at GenCon. Walked in today near the store and thought I would have the opportunity to meet the great Kyle Baird, unfortunately, it was just a stack of boxes.
Anyway, there has been both great demos and awesome opportunities for participation in the Rise of the Runelords Adventure card game marathon.
Getting signatures on my play mats.
Apparently, plans are already underway for next year.
Tomorrow, vengeance will be mine!!!

We survived. The bad guy made a bad move and gave the enlarged, hasted, bull's strengthed, raging, great axe wielding barbarian an attack of opportunity. Bad move, indeed. One critical hit later and, instead of leaping out the window into flight, he ended up a headless corpse plummeting out the window to land amongst his troops, demoralizing them and winning us the day. An excellent game in which I even learned a rule I'd been handling incorrectly (how to cast a 1-round spell, for those who are curious).
Heather and I went up one stop to escape the hotel prices for lunch. Found a taqueria with authentic flautas and tacos. Drinks, meals, tip, and the light rail ride cost $10 less than mere lunch and water in the hotel. Hm...
On the train ride back I thought I heard Kyle Baird. I turned to look and found a very chagrined man looking at me and blushing. "Excuse me," he said, "I tooted."

Played a non-PFS Midgaard game this morning (aside: it is nice to have a break and be in a less-loud room for a bit!), which went a bit long. That meant that I didn't have time for lunch before running my Stolen Heir game this afternoon. That in turn meant that I was munching from my bag of trail mix at the table. And, you know what comes from that. Yes, I was spewing the occasional little tiny bits of food out of my mouth while projecting in the large room....
I told my players (not characters) to make a Fort save or be Sickened.
Joshing aside, I had fun running Stolen Heir twice at this con. At both tables, I had experienced people (a five-star GM at one, a four-star at the other), together with people who had only ever played PFS before at this PaizoCon and only had two xp. Both groups were good groups.
Anecdotally, the PFS-room noise was a little tougher today than yesterday. I don't know if that's just because I'm that much hoarser, or if the room really was louder, or if the tables near the walls (where I was yesterday) don't suffer the noise as the tables near the middle. Next year everybody who comes should be required to bring ten empty egg crates, which we'll staple all over the walls before we get started.
That does it for PFS for me at this con! And, with my upcoming move, who knows if I'll have much of an opportunity for face-to-face PFS gaming (or for that matter, RPGing at all) for the forseeable future, so I may become Mr. Online. (Sadly, I will almost certainly not be able to make PaizoCon next year, barring some sort of lottery winnings. I'm moving out of driving distance, and finances are going to become something we'll need to watch a little more tightly.)
Oh, and when I went across the street to the 7-11 to get a coffee, I thought I saw Kyle Baird, but it turned out just to be the Whispering Tyrant.

Sweet - PaizoCon Preview Banquet. One of the things I most look forward to at PaizoCon. The food is fine, but we have about 50 tables full of rabid Paizonians cheering on the latest news is pretty sweet. Sadly, I can't ever describe the experience properly...forgive me.
I'm sitting at a table with Nani & Kyle Pratt (former yahoos of GA), David Shaw (current yahoo of GA), Jesper Ejsing (artist for the Emerald Spire, LoF AP), Sarah Robinson, & Chris Self. I cant complain. I thought I saw Kyle Baird at another table, but it was just a stack of plates.
Erik and Lisa open up the Preview with talking about the staff and what Paizo is doing and where they are going. It's amazing how much love they have for their teams. It's good to see.
* * *
JBulmahn to the mic to discuss the iconics and the new release. (You'll probably find better and more info on the Paizo Blog.) He discusses the Advanced Class Guide. Each class has 4 pages of archetypes.
Jason liked the Magus because it blended two classes together. (Remember the glorious PFS maguses from yestermods, do you?) The Skald looks pretty hot. A new spell, bulletward, will stop gunslinger bullets.
Fall book: Monster Codex. 20 iconic monsters...much more info: ecology, new rules, unique spells, etc. Much like the Adv Race Guide & stat blocks. King and Queen Fire Giants look pretty vicious. If you're into artwork, it's gorgeous. (They have 3 huge display screens and they look great.)
Next book: Strategy Guide - late 2014. For the new players, help them learn the basics. Walks new players through the basics - combats, turns, etc. (I thought I saw a picture of Kyle Baird, but it was really just a smudged page number.)
Spring 2015: Pathfinder Unchained: 256 pages of WTF? Uhm..."what if the rules team could do whatever they wanted". It's a new set of rules and different things they could do stuff they wanted to do. New Summoner. Fixed Rogue. Full BAB Monk.
JB calls the book 'a playground'...you can use parts or all of it for a different experience.

Mike Selinker, wrote the Adventure Card game....uh, which you might have guessed I kind of like, is next up to speak. He speaks about the RotR game and their progress over the last year. Feedback on the Paizo boards has really helped shape the game.
Skull & Shackles will be the next AP released (which was also previewed here at the con). The theme of the ACG AP is "things that are very unstable" - ships and guns and whatnot. If you've played the ACG, then you can sort of imagine walking up after being shanghai'd and on a pirate boat.
Next ACG AP: Wrath of the Righteous. Will have a mythic card component.
Tanis O'Connor: will be running the Organized Play campaign for the Adventure Card Game. Will be starting Season Zero the ACGame Organized Play campaign. Emulating the PFSociety with gamestore play. Weekly releases of scenarios. Will need a class deck to play.
Woah...update: It's called the Pathfinder Society: Adventure Card Guild. This will be an experimental season (season zero). Launching at GenCon and your local gamestore (same day).

Additional 2014 Releases: Iron Gods.
Next AP: Giant Slayer. Hold of Belkzen. 3 big ass giants as the temporary artwork. They did not discuss much detail at all.
* * *
Erik introduced a slew of 3rd party and close publishers: the comic books, the toys, other figures, and whatnot. Sadly, it's just more than I can cover (and outside my main interest level).
Still working on the Lost Coast Pathfinder Battles set.

Yeah...I'm not really sure how to describe it except from what JB said about it. I think they are offering a slew of things they've always wanted to fix, but releasing it as a completely optional release that you can integrate as you choose.
Not sure if or how it will fit into PFS. That's for people with much less beer in them to decide.

Okay. Here we go...
The line was enormous, stretching out into the parking lot above the hotel. Heather and I didn't bother getting in line and decided to let fate take us in her hands and place us where she will. Instead, we sat on the patio with Kyle and the Adventure A Week guys and shared beer, wine, and stories of fireworks and publishing. Excellent conversation and excellent weather. Eh? What's that? Oh! No, not that Kyle. We were sitting with Big Kyle. I believe the Kyle you are looking for was down the hill at the My Little Pony convention standing in the wrong line.
Anyway, eventually the End of the Line passed us by and we finished out drinks and joined it. After loading out plates with excellent food we made our way into the hall (separated from Kyle, sadly) and found an awesome spot right up front by the podium. Brian Campbell of the PFACG line was manning it for Paizo. Russ Brown and Caio Schmidt (both from Denver!) were seated there as well. I couldn't believe seats were there. Fate truly likes me, and I get to pass that on to you.
I'm going to post things in sections (by speaker). I'm hoping I'll have all the photos up soon, and I will link to those in a final post.
It begins on the next page...
