The Exchange 5/5

I'm going to be running this on Sunday for a group (Playing Tier 1-2) that have 3 under age players. As in ages 9 to 13.

Due to a lot of issues that all line up - it appears to be the only thing available for all the people playing - long story that I don't need to recount here

... Now I need to come up with a way to describe "the House of the Silken Veil" in a way that passes over the heads of the younger half of the table, but the adult half still "get it". I would like to hear suggestions and pointers on how to do this, and still try to stay close to "run as written".

There are apt to be some major "flavor" changes all thru the scenario, but esp. in the brothel, which looks like it is going to become a gambling den/restaurant/"adult amusement park"...

with emails going out to the parents/adult players before the game to clue them in - but at the same time I don't want to spoil it for them either.

SO... suggestions?

Just describe it as a bar with an all female staff , and have one of the girls ask if anyone wants to rent "a room" for an hour. That should get the point across.

When I ran it for a table with several young players (6 to 10 year olds), I simply described it as a place for adults to have parties, where the adults can misbehave a bit (like jumping on beds -doing all the things grown-ups keep telling kids not to do) without getting into trouble or kids finding out.

The adults got it right away, but it sailed over the kids heads.

One player had an Andoran faction mission, and stayed behind to organize a party for a friend. Faction mission succeeded. Since the kids at the table had all been to organized birthday parties, they thought nothing of the one PC staying behind a bit to work out the party details.

+1 ...like this! thanks Mistwalker

Roll a fortitude save.

It looks like they got lice at the party.

For the younger category (5-8) at least, I've noticed my nieces will even sing lyrics that can be rather explicit without noticing anything. Think back to when you were a kid, for some reason, this stuff just sailed right over your heads.

For the other encounters:

For the Publican House:

I explained that it was kinda like being in the school cafeteria on Halloween with all of the kids hyped up on sugar and acting silly, often doing silly dares.

For the fishbowl encounter:

I changed the story in a minor way. The pirate was in opposition to some of the activities of the Besmarans, and had to flee suddenly to save her live - the pirate didn't know that the Besmarans knew about her husband and children. The tattoo was placed just in case, so that they could all meet up later. I also had the father use a window shutter as an improvised weapon - he critted the fighter when he came up the stairs (readied action), which made it a fun encounter for everyone - with lots of jokes about dangerous windows and shutters.

For the Temple of Lissala:

For the optional flayed encounter, I turned into scar tattoos - of the symbol of Lissala.
I was ready with : that the Goddess Lissala wanted pain from her worshippers, as a sign of their devotion - that they had to hurt themselves for her to even think about giving them anything - but didn't have to use it.
For the main cultist part, I just said that it looked like they were doing a powerful ritual - one that was making the PCs feel like they were swimming in the sewer.

edit: small clarification of one example
