Thoroughly enjoying hanging out in the hotel bar/lounge, as people begin flooding into the Marriott. It's like every single shuttle coming in from the airport has got a boatload of conventioneers!

Having a great time with Mike Brock, Rand (Painlord), Brian Darnell, Robyn Nixon and Thursty.

Lantern Lodge 4/5

Yeah, it was fun hanging! My friend Andy and I went downtown though. We're trying The Crab Pot and they have good food, but holy cow is there a lot of it.

We Be Goblins Recap:

This post is loaded with spoilers but gives great detail of the We Be Goblins game played pre-con run at the hotel.

Still hanging in the Hotel/Lobby bar with Katie G (VL San Diego), Robin (VC Los Angeles), Cheapy, Thursty, & Brock. Lots of smack and sass talk abound.

Brock is really taken with his gifted Booker's Bourbon (from Eric B.), a bottle of brown gold that Brock is simultaneously cherishing and taunting people with. (And offering samples to *some* as well, but not this blogger.)

Lots of people arriving today, every shuttle run brings more yahoos. Paizo Staff is also around, setting up for the weekend. Working to make the con great for us...awesome.

The only thing overheard in the last10 minutes that stands out is," Thursty can't handle it."

Leveling up my character for the Special right now. Looking at Tier 10-11 at this point. As I'm taking a bus up to Seattle this year, I've realized that my cargo space will be what I can carry on my back, which pretty much makes bringing books this year a bad idea.

So I'm taking pictures of them, along with photos of the relevant text.

On the other end of a celebrity sighting, let it be recorded that a 'disreputed sighting' be known: a Bay Area contingent of pain and suffering just entered:

Cherry Miller
Azmyth (VC Bay Area)
Pirate Rob & Annie

I just wanted to give a ginormous shout-out to California's own Lord of Pain - Rand. Thank you very much man for getting the 2013 PFS PaizoCon Bloggery thread going again this year. Since I am a small business owner I cannot take time off this year to attend PaizoCon, (too many employees going out of state or going to Fourth of Juplaya) but this thread will serve as a proxy for me being there.

Rand, you rock! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule and letting the folks at home know the state of the con as you get the information.

I look forward to seeing you all next year.

The meet and greet was fun. Getting back was he'll what with the shuttle not running

What?! The shuttle wasn't running?!

Shadow Lodge

On the shuttle now.. so its still running.

Big Kyles fireworks were outstanding! Well done, sir.

Too many names to remember, that's Pain's thing.

The Exchange

Ah Piddlespot, Kyle!!!

Best Meet and Eat and Greet ever. Tremedous food, tremendous beer, tremendous company. It was simply great. And fireworks. And FIREWORKS! It was great.

I had ample time to talk to numerous yahoos and drink all the beer/cider in the world and eat food until I could eat no more and ArodenDamnit Kyle...it was great!!!

Pictures to come, btw. But let's just say that I can't imagine a better, more perfect Meet and Eat that could exist. In addidtion, the random Paizo folk and Authors of interest mingling and hanging out was a bonus. Heck, Erik Mona and Dennis Baker and others were freely visiting and chatting all around.

Big K. Big E. And Kyle E....you rock.

Btw, had ample conversations with numerous PFSers including but not limited to: Mike Darylimple (VC New Orleans), Walter (longtime PaizoCon fave), Anthony, BDK86 (let's rock GaymerCon), Ill_Made_Knight, wakedown and Saltyone, AJ (from Minnesota), Josh Foster (VL Georgia), the Bay Area Yahoos, Adam Raner, Shivok, and so many more if I hadn't drunk so much I'd remember....

Great party. Bodes well for the rest of the con.

Silver Crusade 4/5

So I guess at 1:12am, I am the one who gets to do the recap of the day.

But first, let me start with my quick adventure to PaizoCon..

For those of you reading, I started my adventure at work. Waiting desperately for the time when I could clock out and head out to Seattle. The whole time reading the thread dying that I was not there to enjoy the convention. I eventually get to the airport, to be delayed 45 minutes. But I was rewarded, by a window seat that allowed me to see all of the fireworks in a 50-mile radius of the Seattle area. And I will say, that makes up for missing the Meet and Eat by a long shot. Only to have my body wash decide to spill in my checked baggage and now all my clothes smell like citrus.. (Which I guess I do not mind to much)

I check in, grab a beer and hang out with my good friend Scott, who was one of the first converts I had ever brought to PFS play (My VC of Sacramento came shortly along side him.) Eventually I meet up with my roomies VC Robyn Nixon of LA and Ryan Costello Jr. of *the* Know Direction Podcast and am then summoned to assist in helping Master Brock with setting up the holy room of AWESOME that is the PFS room. It was fun to work with them and meet a lot of the people on the fourms just by helping out and setting up a room. I should also mention that there was free beer to those that helped out, so needless to say, I think I am now good on beer thanks to helping out, and my favorite lady in all of Pathfinder Verdigis herself.

So what started out as a travel disaster, has now turned into an awesome start to what will hopefully be a weekend of epicness. Shoutouts to all the peeps I met and ran into this weekend! I hope to report more soon!

Note: For a more live feed--hit me up on Twitter at LadyOpheliaShop... There will be all my pictures and adventures in real time.. May have some sweet spoilers too. :D

Kyle's Meet & Greet was quite awesome. Had a good time. Good food, and MAN, that fireworks display! (Plus all the neighbors, but Kyle's Grand Finale put all the neighbors to shame.)

A still photo can't do the show justice. I also took video of it, which would give you a sense of how impressive it was, but also can't do it justice. Here's the still photo:

(I could probably do better by extracting some frames from the video... maybe later.)

I also ran a spontaneous PFS game, scenario 01, Silent Tide, with a full table of seven people. The claim to fame was that this was the first ever Pathfinder game for Ashley, the new accountant at Paizo. (She admitted to only having played D&D once, years ago, saying it didn't go well. She had never played Pathfinder, and despite having worked at Paizo now for FOUR WHOLE DAYS (one of which was spent at Kyle's Meet & Greet), doesn't know a lot about it.)

In this photo, the four people are Brian, Other Brian, Emily, and Ashley:

On the other side of the table, we have David, ... um... oh, crap, I forgot his name, but his shirt spells out "DAD" in binary ASCII, Christian, and Brian (reprise). In the foreground, you can see my custom GM screen (with two sheets I made myself, and two sheets from the PDF of the Pathfinder GM screen), with the bestiary behind it opened to the Riding Dog page.... Also in the foreground is Rosalind, my laptop. And a Dr. Pepper can. Love me my Dr. Pepper.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

And, oh yes, must not forget the goblin ice sculpture. This isn't a great picture, unfortunately; there's not a lot of contrast in the goblin sculpture, so it's hard to see what's going on. You can see its big grin; it's got a dogslicer in its hand that it's using to pick its teeth. That's Kyle standing behind it.

It is 5:29 AM. I've had 4 hours of sleep. I'm up this early in order to get a decent breakfast before waiting in line to register and get to my first game table by 8 AM.

The meet and greet was epic. Kyle has set the bar incredibly high for future years. The firework laws are ridiculous here in Washington. I tried uploading a video of the grand finale to YouTube, but the operation failed. I'll try again with a wifi connection.

I met and talked with so many fantastic people last night. I talked comics with Erik Mona, who spoke briefly about the upcoming Goblin comic he wrote for. I spoke briefly with Lisa Stevens and John Brandt about the old days of living and gaming in the Lion Rampant house. I also talked with dozens of gamers, coordinators, VO's, and authors about PFS, scenarios we've loved, the joys and pains of coordination, and somehow got trapped in an intense discussion about football. Fortunately, Eric Brittain and I were able to duck out of that conversation with the unveiling of the five-foot tall goblin ice sculpture.

The night ended by giving Painlord, Chris from Oakland, and Josh "Three-Eyed Sloth" McIllwain a ride back to the hotel. To get to my car we had to walk through a cordon of partied-out gamers waiting for the shuttle. The sheer amount of unbridled hate was almost palpable. Painlord was able to refuel his pain tanks for quite a while on their sorrow. It was difficult convincing Painlord that I would not do a u-turn and run a "victory lap" around them. He was simply going to have to cherish the sight of Azmyth (my VC) flipping us the double-bird and yelling curse words at us.

After dropping them off, I felt bad, so returned to the scene to see if I could take anyone else back. I found Doug Myles and Andrew from Portland, who were unable to take the shuttle that had come and gone. After dropping them off I drove to my hotel in Fife to get some sleep.

The plan about ditching first slot was proved to be a good one. I slept in, have wandered around, got checked in, and wandered the tables.

One notably sweet table has VC Eric B (San Diego) running Majuba, Deidre, TetsujinOni, Desmond (Reno), Ill_Made_Knight, DragnMoon.

Saw the demos of Pathfinder Online...looked pretty cool even though I'm not an MMO Fan.

The check-in process seemed to be really quick and easy this year.

The swag bag was some nice stuff: goblin mini, a box of RotR Pathfinder Battles minis, a PaizoCon 2013 button, and it came in a Pathfinder tote bag (according to WK Nol3n 'it's a quality big bag...made of good material').

Had a Mark Moreland sighting (and handshake).

Bummer: No wifi in the conference areas...there is singular access through the hotel conference which Paizo has locked down for the Con. However, we players can't buy or get access (even transfer room access) to be able to access. Jeff Alvarez, if you read this, please get me access so I can continue to Blog about your event.

Re-met Doug, the store owner from Alaska whom I met two years ago.

Slot 1: Halls of Dwarven Lore run by Tim Wallace from Salem, OR. This has been a really fun table with some great folks:

• Alex from Olympia, WA, is playing Kore, the White-Haired Witch / Mad Dog Barbarian, riding his combat chameleon..
• Michael, who is new to the Seattle area, is playing the archer, Me'vrra Megil.
• Alan, from Chicago is playing Rottenfox, the Halfling Necromancer / Witch.
• Warren, from Victoria, is playing the Elven Wizard, Hussef.
• Monique from Victoria, is playing the Aristocrat (Rogue), Rousseau.
• I've been playing Vortha the Fat, the big-boned Freebooter from Korvosa.

Without giving much in the way of spoilers, it has been a blast watching Rottenfox chide and harangue his undead "children".

Slot 1 standby... GM Bill Woodson ran a rockin' Blakros Matrimony where these gems were uttered...

"So I can keep stuff in my sizable sack.."

- Ron Knop playing an alchemist whose middle name was "Pyro"

Pain's Fri Afternoon Game:

GM Dain (Ashville, NC) Secrets Stones Keep 4-25

GM Chris: Timmy lvl 8
Danny Atwood: Resa Wisslo lvl 7 - halfelf platemail glaive Sarenrae
Jake Chim-wa "the Falcon of Death" lvl 7 Tengu
Painlord: Latheas lvl 6 Generalist
Shaldrock: Lvl 6 Aasimaar:

There was some issue getting to my original table...I was supposed to play Blakros Matrimony (so I could get more of the story before The Disappeared and Fortress of the Nial). There were 7 people with tix for the table and another who wanted on. With the general mustering chaos, there wasn't an easy way to split into two tables. Rather than play a table of 7, I fled.

Ended up on Secrets Stones Keep. Good table, lots of RP.

Dain is a colorful and flexible GM who RPs well and handles odd requests with ease. The players, especially Shaldrock, were good for RP. Our combats ended quickly and were less emphasized than the story and our characters.

The practice round of the GenCon Special is next. Lots of excitement for it.

Shadow Lodge

Slot 2 with Mr. Will Johnson at the Jason Bulhman NPC class lottery game.

Its clear someone at Paizo likes chases and dire roosters.

Memorable quotes:

"Duran Duran orc looks hungry like the wolf."
-Murray D. from the land down under playing dwarf expert Darkin the Delayer

"Ok, you're being inserted to the bottom." -GM Jason B.

"That sounds painful" - Ben L. also from the lands down under

Be sure to check out Ben's sound box if you cross paths... it's epic.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

Slot 2: Wings of Ruin with Jason Bulmahn! This was an opportunity to play a level 1 NPC class in the sleepy town of Crowstump. In keeping with the low-fantasy nature of the game, our heroes were assigned menial tasks which turned out to be harrowing , death-defying acts of unrecognized heroics.

Our cast of heroes:

• Mike from Orange County, CA, was playing the Human Aristocrat, William "Dubya'" Bowdry.
• Brian from Bellingham, WA, was playing the Human Expert Tax Collector, Shou Salk.
• Susan from Austin, TX, was playing the Halfling Expert Baker, Blossom Underhill.
• Murray, a recent New Zealand transplant to Sydney, Australia, was playing the Dwarven Adept, Darkin the Delayer.
• Ben from Sydney, Australia, was playing the Human Warrior Fudge.
• I was playing a Human Expert Cobbler named Geno.

This game was ridiculously fun:

• Darkin and Shou, trapped on a rope bridge, selflessly sacrificed themselves by cutting the bridge before being overrun by the oncoming horde.
• Fudge and Dubya saved the day by distracting a bear by "activating the dead pig" they were carrying.
• Shou, having miraculously escaped from falling to his death earlier, was sadly killed by Jason's feared meteorite Critical Hit die.
• I spent the afternoon unconscious in every single fight we participated in.

GenCon Special - Friday Night

I've made a terrible mistake.

I in my drunken stupor, I agreed to enjoin Nani & Kyle Pratt & John Compton in the GenCon Special. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Truly, I have made a terrible mistake.

Now, sitting on the table, the weight of my error compounds with every word spoken and every dice rolled. I type these words in hopes that the rest of you will learn from my mistakes...we *are* Pathfinders, after all...cooperate and all that crap.

I giant bottle of Sapphire Vodka sits on the table.

VC Eric Brittain GMs...a better RP GM you could not ask for.

The Yahoos:
Nani Pratt: Signifier Siven Naepoli
Kyle Pratt: Taraneh Durand
Mark R (Winnipeg): Garrick
John Compton: Caepio Alazario
Painlord: Thorne, the Most Powerful Mage in *All* of Absalom
Josh Foster (VL Georgia): Razia

As it should be, I know none of these characters before sitting at the table, nor their roles, nor their styles. The words "tank", "healer", and "we need a <blank>" are never uttered. We just play the yahoos we bring to the table. Pathfinders *usually* find ways to win...regardless of balance. I expect the same from this group.

You have to understand, Thorne has been retired since becoming a VC in November 11. Thorne retired rather colorfully way back when. I brushed off Thorne for this game.

(There are about 42 tables filled with Pathfinders, looks like every table has 6 players. Before we start, Mike Brock roasted and awarded a campaign service award to VC Azmyth, VC Eric Brittain, & VC Robyn Nixon. They rock.)

As it turns out, the insanity of some regions has been greatly understated. To be blunt, they are freakin' insane. Their characters have only the faintest connections to Golarion reality, normalcy, or what people might tab as "sanity". We have only just begun and feel a dagger of pain in my psyche as the

Siven (Nani): "I start bleeding out of my armor."
Me: We haven't started fighting yet. We haven't even rolled init yet!!

They call themselves "Team Charisma". *sigh*

John Compton doing puppet voices and hand gestures in a show about the many defeating the one...my brain hurts. I'm dying.

Finally, we fight. Poorly. A bit of me dies with every die roll. Casualties pile up with every action...oh, poor peasants.

Other tables...uhm, competent ones, seem to be helping achieve the overall mission goals. My table seems to be barely able to attach their wayfarers to a leather cord. I'm afraid that two drunk goblins would overwhelm this gang of misfits...if my party didn't completely miss the entire goblin riot while arguing over who got to stand in back.

I think we've been through 2 encounters and Swen(Nani) is still bleeding out her armor. She's staining carpets.

Caepio: "I ready a puppet mimickry action when they move towards me."
Painlord: Puppet mimickry? There might be honor in me taking my own life. Pharasma would judge me fairly when I explained why.

Wow. Taraneh (Kyle) showed some flashes of competence, nearly one shotting a baddie. Uhm...hate to say I'm impressed, but maybe, just maybe, I'll give a slow nod in his direction. That was not a bad round for someone who is not the most powerful mage in *all* Absalom.

(Our table is greatly enjoying the aid mechanic the organizers have set up. The ability to help other tables is pretty sweet.)

Do not read: spoiler and not funny:

GM Eric: "I'm going to call this Vrock 'Michael'."
Table: *crickets*
GM Eric: "You know, Michael Vrock."
Table: *facepalms*

Michael Vrock died a noble death...I believe it involved the word 'Caboobies'.

John Compton/Caepio: "Oh, good idea! I'll use a nymph!" ::digs through his bag of puppets::
Painlord: We're fighting piddlespotting <redacted> and he's got piddlespotting puppets!

I've made a terrible mistake...my party is trying to take the fight to the sewers. There are no missions or instructions for the sewers. *sigh* This ain't good...I can't say if it's overwhelming bravery or stupidity that leads us to this action. I'll let the readers decide after they play it at GenCon.

GM Eric has saved us from going to the sewers by 'helpfully' suggesting we go this particular place. I'm excited because we're not going to the sewers, but afeared because Eric is smiling evilly.

When what Eric wanted to come upon us, we realize that we've made a terrible mistake. It is horrendous. For the love of whatever gods I pray to, I pray for a quick death (or for time to be called).

Thorne, the most powerful mage in *all* Absalom, nuts up and contributes to the fight. He really mixed things up by summoning balls of *ICE* in his mighty wing and hurling them toward the <<blanks>>.

Time is called after this last fight (for this scene) and I cry for the mercy that I have been given.

* * *

Wow. Plot happened. I can't believe that ... is really ... and involved with ...!!! And then something else happened and the room groaned.

* * *

Okay...our next foe(s) are bigger and badder than before...and before they were big and ugly. No, I'm not talking about us fighting amongst ourselves, but the depths of bestiaries that were mined for the enemies in his fight. For the love of everything piddlespotted, let us die quickly.

I've made a terrible mistake.

Siven: Just won Pathfinder. Two bad will saves and "Holy @$%t!" and the big baddie was turned into a screaming Farak, running from battle as fast as it could. This named Beast was just dismissed by that tin armored barbie doll.

And awesome. Of course, we have to chase it down. Miraculously, we go the right way and kill it. I weep, hoping that I will live to see another day.

* * *

We had one more encounter, I won't even describe the carnage...my mage, the most powerful mage in *all* Absalom, was completely wasted and drained by the end.

Mercifully, at close to midnight, the event is called. We rocked it and had fun. Thursty (the author) rocked it. (Btw, the fact that you can walk right up to Thursty after the event and talk to him about the mod is pretty cool. I love that he's so available and friendly.)

Thanks again to GM Eric Brittain for running an awesome table, putting up with puppets and bleeding armor and pouncing lions and fire and ice and spilt drinks and far too many laughs.

To Nani, Kyle, John, and Josh: thanks for including me in the mayhem...and it was mayhemish. Mark R, I apologize for dragging you into this.

For being willing to play people before stats. To be a group and work towards a goal while still at the same time being individuals.

For aligning the mystical alchemy of system mastery, improv skill and character portrayal.

For allowing me to portray the epicness of what occured in this event.
